The Assouad spectrum and dimension of typical graphs

We investigate the Assouad spectrum and dimension of graphs of functions lying in certain Banach spaces. We find the typical values in the sense of Baire category, proving that these values are often as large as possible, given the constraints of the particular function space. For example, we demonstrate that in the little $\alpha$-H\"older spaces, a typical graph has Assouad dimension $2$ and Assouad spectrum $\min\{2,2-\frac{\alpha-\theta}{1-\theta}\}$; whereas in the space associated with modulus of continuity $t(1+|\log t|)$, a typical graph has Assouad dimension $2$ but quasi-Assouad dimension (and Assouad spectrum) equal to $1$.

Dimensions of equilibrium measures on a class of planar self-affine sets

We study equilibrium measures (K\"aenm\"aki measures) supported on self-affine sets generated by a finite collection of diagonal and anti-diagonal matrices acting on the plane and satisfying the strong separation property. Our main result is that such measures are exact dimensional and the dimension satisfies the Ledrappier-Young formula, which gives an explicit expression for the dimension in terms of the entropy and Lyapunov exponents as well as the dimension of the important coordinate projection of the measure. In particular, we do this by showing that the K\"aenm\"aki measure is equal to the sum of (the pushforwards) of two Gibbs measures on an associated subshift of finite type.

On the L^q Dimensions of Measures on Hueter-Lalley Type Self-Affine Sets

We study the L^q -dimensions of self-affine measures and the Kaenmaki measure on a class of self-affine sets similar to the class considered by Hueter and Lalley. We give simple, checkable conditions under which the Lq -dimensions are equal to the value predicted by Falconer for a range of q. As a corollary this gives a wider class of self-affine sets for which the Hausdorff dimension can be explicitly calculated. Our proof combines the potential theoretic approach developed by Hunt and Kaloshin with recent advances in the dynamics of self-affine sets.

Sixty Years of Fractal Projections

Sixty years ago, John Marstrand published a paper which, among other things, relates the Hausdorff dimension of a plane set to the dimensions of its orthogonal projections onto lines. For many years, the paper attracted very little attention. However, over the past 30 years, Marstrand's projection theorems have become the prototype for many results in fractal geometry with numerous variants and applications and they continue to motivate leading research.

On the dimensions of a family of overlapping self-affine carpets

We consider the dimensions of a family of self-affine sets related to the Bedford-McMullen carpets. In particular, we fix a Bedford-McMullen system and then randomise the translation vectors with the stipulation that the column structure is preserved. As such, we maintain one of the key features in the Bedford-McMullen set up in that alignment causes the dimensions to drop from the affinity dimension. We compute the Hausdorff, packing and box dimensions outside of a small set of exceptional translations, and also for some explicit translations even in the presence of overlapping. Our results rely on, and can be seen as a partial extension of, M. Hochman's recent work on the dimensions of self-similar sets and measures.

Scaling scenery of $(\times m,\times n)$ invariant measures

We study the scaling scenery and limit geometry of invariant measures for the non-conformal toral endomorphism $(x,y) \mapsto (mx \mod 1,ny \mod 1)$ that are Bernoulli measures for the natural Markov partition. We show that the statistics of the scaling can be described by an ergodic CP-chain in the sense of Furstenberg. Invoking the machinery of CP-chains yields a projection theorem for Bernoulli measures, which generalises in part earlier results by Hochman-Shmerkin and Ferguson-Jordan-Shmerkin. We also give an ergodic theoretic criterion for the dimension part of Falconer's distance set conjecture for general sets with positive length using CP-chains and hence verify it for various classes of fractals such as self-affine carpets of Bedford-McMullen, Lalley-Gatzouras and Bara\'nski class and all planar self-similar sets.
