Bounds and Constructions of Maximum Toroidal Distance Codes

In lattice-based cryptographic schemes, both encoded messages and accumulated decryption noise are represented in a modulo $q$ space. Therefore, it is natural to study toroidal distances and maximum toroidal distance (MTD) codes. In this paper, we derive some upper bounds for minimum toroidal distance of a code, including a Plotkin-type bound, a local ball--Plotkin bound, and a Delsarte linear programming bound. We also exhibit examples showing that these bounds are sharp in some cases. Moreover, we present several code constructions with good minimum distance, some of which are MTD codes. For $\ell=2$, we obtain a family of four-point MTD codes in $\mathbb Z_q^2$. For $\ell=4$, we propose a general code construction and exhibit several explicit instances for specific values of $q$, some of which are proven to be MTD codes. For $\ell=8$, using the $E_8$ lattice, we construct codes $C=2mE_8\cap \mathbb Z_q^8$, where $q=4m$ and show that they are MTD codes. These results give explicit optimal constructions of MTD codes for $\ell=2,4,8$. In the case $\ell=16$, we construct a code with minimum toroidal distance $3$ for $q=4$, while the known upper bound in this case is $2\sqrt{3}$. Our main tools are geometric and linear programming methods.

Sequences with thirteen-valued cross correlations

In this paper, we completely determine the cross correlation distribution between an $m$-sequence $(s_t)$ of period $p^n-1$ and its $d$-decimated sequence $(s_{dt})$, where $d = \frac{p^n-1}{3} + p^i$, $p \equiv 1 \pmod{3}$, $\frac{1}{3}p^{-i}(p^n-1) \not\equiv 2 \pmod{3}$, and $0 \leq i < n$. It is shown that the cross correlation is $13$-valued. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that the cross correlation distribution of so many values has been determined.

Walsh Spectrum and Boomerang Properties of Locally-APN Niho Functions

Recently, the Walsh spectrum and boomerang properties of special power functions have aroused widespread research interest, owing to their important applications in cryptography and information security. In particular, locally-APN functions may offer superior resistance against differential cryptanalysis compared to other functions of equivalent differential uniformity. Up till now only a small number of locally-APN functions have been studied. In this paper, we show that a Niho type power function is locally-APN if and only if its Walsh spectrum takes four values in \(\{-p^m, 0, p^m, 2p^m\}\). Equivalently, the associated cyclic codes have four nonzero weights: $p^{m-1}(p-1)(p^m + k)$ for $k = 0, 1, -1, -2$. Moreover, we also study properties of Niho type locally-APN power functions, including their differential spectrum, Walsh spectrum, Feistel Boomerang Connectivity Table(FBCT for short) and second-order zero differential spectra.

Shortest Embeddings of Linear Codes with Arbitrary Hull Dimension

In this paper, we study the shortest $t$-dimensional hull embeddings of linear codes in both Euclidean and Hermitian cases, extending the existing research on the shortest LCD and self-orthogonal embeddings to arbitrary hull dimensions and arbitrary finite fields. We obtain the exact length of such embeddings by adopting tools from quadratic form theory over finite fields and classical group theory. Based on the congruence equivalence class of Gram matrices of linear codes, we classify linear codes into distinct ``types'' and present corresponding constructive algorithms. In particular, we improve the results of An et al. and fully determine the length of the shortest self-orthogonal embeddings for linear codes. Finally, applying these algorithms, we provide examples for various settings and obtain several optimal codes inequivalent to those in the BKLC database.

Linear Codes with Certain Dimension of Hermitian Hulls

In this paper, we study the enumerative and asymptotic properties related to Hermitian $\ell$-complementary codes on the unitary space over $\F_{q^2}$. We provide some closed form expressions for the counting formulas of Hermitian $\ell$-complementary codes. There is a similarity in the asymptotic weight distribution between Hermitian self-orthogonal codes and unrestricted codes. Furthermore, we study the asymptotic behavior of Hermitian self-orthogonal codes whose minimum distance is at least $d$. In particular, we conclude that MDS codes within the class of Hermitian self-orthogonal codes are asymptotically dense when the alphabet size approaches to infinity.

New Constructions of Non-GRS MDS Codes, Recovery and Determination Algorithms for GRS Codes

In this paper, we propose a new method for constructing a class of non-GRS MDS codes. The lengths of these codes can reach up to $\frac{q+3}{2}$ (for finite fields of odd characteristic) and $\frac{q+4}{2}$ (for even characteristic), respectively. Owing to their special structure, we can use the Cauchy matrix method to obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for these codes to be MDS codes and non-GRS MDS codes. Additionally, the inequivalence between these codes and twisted GRS codes is analyzed. Furthermore, we analyze the relationships among several existing classes of codes used for constructing non-GRS MDS codes, propose explicit constructions, and discuss the lengths of non-GRS MDS codes based on these constructions. Finally, we design two efficient algorithms to address two main problems in GRS code research, i.e., determining whether an unknown code $C$ is a GRS code from its generator matrix $G$, and recovering the key vectors $\bm{\alpha}$ and $\bm{v}$ such that $C = \GRS_{n,k}(\bm{\alpha}, \bm{v})$ if $C$ is indeed a GRS code. A computational complexity comparison of the proposed algorithms ($O(nk+n)$) with that of the Sidelnikov-Shestakov attack (exceeding $O(qk^2n+qk^3)$) shows that our methods offer superior computational efficiency.

Shortest self-orthogonal embeddings of binary linear codes

There has been recent interest in the study of shortest self-orthogonal embeddings of binary linear codes, since many such codes are optimal self-orthogonal codes. Several authors have studied the length of a shortest self-orthogonal embedding of a given binary code $\mathcal C$, or equivalently, the minimum number of columns that must be added to a generator matrix of $\mathcal C$ to form a generator matrix of a self-orthogonal code. In this paper, we use properties of the hull of a linear code to determine the length of a shortest self-orthogonal embedding of any binary linear code. We focus on the examples of Hamming codes and Reed-Muller codes. We show that a shortest self-orthogonal embedding of a binary Hamming code is self-dual, and propose two algorithms to construct self-dual codes from Hamming codes $\mathcal H_r$. Using these algorithms, we construct a self-dual $[22, 11, 6]$ code, called the shortened Golay code, from the binary $[15, 11, 3]$ Hamming code $\mathcal H_4$, and construct a self-dual $[52, 26, 8]$ code from the binary $[31, 26, 3]$ Hamming code $\mathcal H_5$. We use shortest SO embeddings of linear codes to obtain many inequivalent optimal self-orthogonal codes of dimension $7$ and $8$ for several lengths. Four of the codes of dimension $8$ that we construct are codes with new parameters such as $[91, 8, 42],\, [98, 8, 46],\,[114, 8, 54]$, and $[191, 8, 94]$.

Improved Decoding Algorithms for MDS and Almost-MDS Codesfrom Twisted GRS Codes

In this paper, firstly, we study decoding of a general class of twisted generalized Reed-Solomon (TGRS) codes and provide a precise characterization of the key equation for TGRS codes and propose a decoding algorithm. Secondly, we further study decoding of almost-MDS TGRS codes and provide a decoding algorithm. These two decoding algorithms are more efficient in terms of performance compared with the decoding algorithms presented in [Sun et al., IEEE-TIT, 2024] and [Sui et al., IEEE-TIT, 2023] respectively.

Non-Reed-Solomon Type MDS Codes from Elliptic Curves

New families of maximum distance separable (MDS) codes are constructed from elliptic curves by exploiting their group structures. In contrast to classical constructions based on divisors supported at a single rational point, the proposed approach employs divisors formed by multiple distinct points constituting a maximal subgroup of the curve. The resulting codes achieve parameters approaching the theoretical upper bound $(q + 1 + \lfloor 2\sqrt{q} \rfloor)/2$ and include non Reed-Solomon (RS) MDS codes. The inequivalence of these codes to RS codes is established through an explicit analysis on the rank of the Schur product of their generator matrices. These results extend the known parameter range of elliptic MDS codes and provide additional evidence supporting the tightness of existing upper bounds for algebraic geometry MDS codes.

How to Expand a Self-orthogonal Code

In this paper, we show how to expand Euclidean/Hermitian self-orthogonal code preserving their orthogonal property. Our results show that every $k$-dimension Hermitian self-orthogonal code is contained in a $(k+1)$-dimensional Hermitian self-orthogonal code. Also, for $k< n/2-1$, every $[n,k]$ Euclidean self-orthogonal code is contained in an $[n,k+1]$ Euclidean self-orthogonal code. Moreover, for $k=n/2-1$ and $p=2$, we can also fulfill the expanding process. But for $k=n/2-1$ and $p$ odd prime, the expanding process can be fulfilled if and only if an extra condition must be satisfied. We also propose two feasible algorithms on these expanding procedures.

Column Twisted Reed-Solomon Codes as MDS Codes

In this paper, we study column twisted Reed-Solomon(TRS) codes. We establish some sufficient conditions for these codes to be MDS and show that the dimension of their Schur square codes is $2k$. Consequently, these TRS codes are shown to be not equivalent to Reed-Solomon(RS) codes. Moreover, our construction offers more flexible parameters than existing twisted generalized Reed-Solomon(TGRS) code designs. For a large odd prime power $q$, systematically constructed TGRS codes are known to be limited to length $\frac{q+1}{2}$. By contrast, our column TRS construction supports code lengths up to $\frac{q+3}{2}$. Finally, we present the dual codes of column TRS codes. Overall, this work introduces a new method for constructing MDS codes by appending column vectors to some generator matrix of an RS code.

Differential Spectrum and Boomerang Spectrum of Some Power Mapping

Let $f(x)=x^{s(p^m-1)}$ be a power mapping over $\mathbb{F}_{p^n}$, where $n=2m$ and $\gcd(s,p^m+1)=t$. In \cite{kpm-1}, Hu et al. determined the differential spectrum and boomerang spectrum of the power function $f$, where $t=1$. So what happens if $t\geq1$? In this paper, we extend the result of \cite{kpm-1} from $t=1$ to general case. We use a different method than in \cite{kpm-1} to determine the differential spectrum and boomerang spectrum of $f$ by studying the number of rational points on some curves. This method may be helpful for calculating the differential spectrum and boomerang spectrum of some Niho type power functions.

A Generic Construction on Self-orthogonal Algebraic Geometric Codes and Its Applications

In the realm of algebraic geometric (AG) codes, characterizing dual codes has long been a challenging task. In this paper we introduces a generalized criterion to characterize self-orthogonality of AG codes based on residues, drawing upon the rich algebraic structures of finite fields and the geometric properties of algebraic curves. We also present a generic construction of self-orthogonal AG codes from self-dual MDS codes. Using these approaches, we construct several families of self-dual and almost self-dual AG codes. These codes combine two merits: good performance as AG code whose parameters are close to the Singleton bound together with Euclidean (or Hermtian) self-dual/self-orthogonal property. Furthermore, some AG codes with Hermitian self-orthogonality can be applied to construct quantum codes with notably good parameters.

Self-orthogonal and self-dual codes from maximal curves

In the field of algebraic geometric codes (AG codes), the characterization of dual codes has long been a challenging problem which relies on differentials. In this paper, we provide some descriptions for certain differentials utilizing algebraic structure of finite fields and geometric properties of algebraic curves. Moreover, we construct self-orthogonal and self-dual codes with parameters $[n, k, d]_{q^2}$ satisfying $k + d$ is close to $n$. Additionally, quantum codes with large minimum distance are also constructed.

Differential uniformity and costacyclic code from some power mapping

In this paper, we study the differential properties of $x^d$ over $\mathbb{F}_{p^n}$ with $d=p^{2l}-p^{l}+1$. By studying the differential equation of $x^d$ and the number of rational points on some curves over finite fields, we completely determine differential spectrum of $x^{d}$. Then we investigate the $c$-differential uniformity of $x^{d}$. We also calculate the value distribution of a class of exponential sum related to $x^d$. In addition, we obtain a class of six-weight consta-cyclic codes, whose weight distribution is explicitly determined. Part of our results is a complement of the works shown in [\ref{H1}, \ref{H2}] which mainly focus on cross correlations.

Two Classes of Quantum MDS Codes with Large Minimal Distance

In this paper, two classes of quantum MDS codes are constructed. The main tools are multiplicative structures on finite fields. Carefully choosing different cosets can make the corresponding generalized Reed-Solomon codes Hermitian self-orthogonal, which yields quantum MDS codes by utilizing Hermitian type CSS construction. In some cases, these codes have minimal distances larger than $q/2$. Also, the parameters of these codes have never been reported before.

Hull's Parameters of Projective Reed-Muller Code

Projective Reed-Muller codes(PRM codes) are constructed from the family of projective hypersurfaces of a fixed degree over a finite field $\F_q$. In this paper, we completely determine the minimal distance of the hull of any Projective Reed-Muller codes. Motivated by Nathan Kaplan and Jon-Lark Kim \cite{kaplankim},we extend their results and calculate the hulls' dimension of Projective Reed-Muller Codes in a larger range. We also analyse two special classes of PRM codes apart from self-dual,self-orthgonal and LCD cases, which Kaplan and Kim \cite[section 3]{kaplankim} didn't consider.

The Differential Spectrum of the Power Mapping $x^{p^n-3}$

Let $n$ be a positive integer and $p$ a prime. The power mapping $x^{p^n-3}$ over $\mathbb{F}_{p^n}$ has desirable differential properties, and its differential spectra for $p=2,\,3$ have been determined. In this paper, for any odd prime $p$, by investigating certain quadratic character sums and some equations over $\mathbb{F}_{p^n}$, we determine the differential spectrum of $x^{p^n-3}$ with a unified approach. The obtained result shows that for any given odd prime $p$, the differential spectrum can be expressed explicitly in terms of $n$. Compared with previous results, a special elliptic curve over $\mathbb{F}_{p}$ plays an important role in our computation for the general case $p \ge 5$.
