Topological Valley-Reshaped Device: Bifunctional Waveguiding and Single-Beam Leaky-Wave Radiation for Terahertz Communication

Topological photonics has emerged as a powerful platform for terahertz on-chip systems due to its robust waveguiding capabilities. However, directly extracting topological valley-locked edge states into directional free-space radiation without auxiliary couplers while preserving guided-wave functionality remains a fundamental challenge. In this work, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a bifunctional topological valley-reshaped device. By introducing an angular truncation and a spatial displacement to a complete topological waveguide (TW), the resulting structure inherently retains its waveguiding capabilities. Furthermore, when operated as an isolated section, it functions as a topological leaky-wave antenna (TLWA) that exhibits directional single-lobe radiation. The TW shows low-loss guided-wave performance with an 18 GHz operating bandwidth, supporting error-free transmission up to 60 Gbps. For the TLWA, by gradually reducing the number of protective lattices that are orthogonal to the propagation direction, the valley-locked edge state becomes momentum-matched to the free-space light line, generating leaky-wave radiation. Simultaneously, reshaping of the opposite valley-locked edge state suppresses far-field side lobes and reduces reflection, yielding a clean single-beam radiation pattern with a side-lobe suppression ratio (SLSR) exceeding 15 dB. The TLWA realizes a measured peak gain of 12.5 dBi and a 19 GHz operating bandwidth. Notably, the low-dispersion property of the K-valley radiation allows the main-lobe direction to vary by only 2 degrees across the entire operating band, enabling error-free free-space reception at 24 Gbps. This bifunctional design represents a key step toward highly integrated and modular terahertz on-chip systems.

Characterization of Vanishing Campanato Spaces via Ball Banach Function Spaces and Its Applications

In this article, the authors provide some new characterizations of several vanishing Campanato spaces using a type of oscillation defined within the general framework of ball Banach function spaces. This approach yields fresh insights even in the special case of the vanishing BMO space. The characterization reveals a self-improvement phenomenon inherent in vanishing Campanato spaces. A key innovation of this approach lies in using higher-order differences to dominate oscillations. Instead of directly estimating these differences, the authors achieve the domination by smoothing the function via convolution. As additional outcomes, the authors also obtain new characterizations of vanishing Campanato spaces in terms of higher-order differences. Finally, the authors present several examples to show that these vanishing Campanato spaces naturally arise in the study on the compactness of fractional integral commutators in Morrey spaces.

Modeling Thousands of Human Annotators for Generalizable Text-to-Image Person Re-identification

Text-to-image person re-identification (ReID) aims to retrieve the images of an interested person based on textual descriptions. One main challenge for this task is the high cost in manually annotating large-scale databases, which affects the generalization ability of ReID models. Recent works handle this problem by leveraging Multi-modal Large Language Models (MLLMs) to describe pedestrian images automatically. However, the captions produced by MLLMs lack diversity in description styles. To address this issue, we propose a Human Annotator Modeling (HAM) approach to enable MLLMs to mimic the description styles of thousands of human annotators. Specifically, we first extract style features from human textual descriptions and perform clustering on them. This allows us to group textual descriptions with similar styles into the same cluster. Then, we employ a prompt to represent each of these clusters and apply prompt learning to mimic the description styles of different human annotators. Furthermore, we define a style feature space and perform uniform sampling in this space to obtain more diverse clustering prototypes, which further enriches the diversity of the MLLM-generated captions. Finally, we adopt HAM to automatically annotate a massive-scale database for text-to-image ReID. Extensive experiments on this database demonstrate that it significantly improves the generalization ability of ReID models.

Texture-Preserving Diffusion Models for High-Fidelity Virtual Try-On

Image-based virtual try-on is an increasingly important task for online shopping. It aims to synthesize images of a specific person wearing a specified garment. Diffusion model-based approaches have recently become popular, as they are excellent at image synthesis tasks. However, these approaches usually employ additional image encoders and rely on the cross-attention mechanism for texture transfer from the garment to the person image, which affects the try-on's efficiency and fidelity. To address these issues, we propose an Texture-Preserving Diffusion (TPD) model for virtual try-on, which enhances the fidelity of the results and introduces no additional image encoders. Accordingly, we make contributions from two aspects. First, we propose to concatenate the masked person and reference garment images along the spatial dimension and utilize the resulting image as the input for the diffusion model's denoising UNet. This enables the original self-attention layers contained in the diffusion model to achieve efficient and accurate texture transfer. Second, we propose a novel diffusion-based method that predicts a precise inpainting mask based on the person and reference garment images, further enhancing the reliability of the try-on results. In addition, we integrate mask prediction and image synthesis into a single compact model. The experimental results show that our approach can be applied to various try-on tasks, e.g., garment-to-person and person-to-person try-ons, and significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods on popular VITON, VITON-HD databases.

Exploring the Potential of Integrated Optical Sensing and Communication (IOSAC) Systems with Si Waveguides for Future Networks

Advanced silicon photonic technologies enable integrated optical sensing and communication (IOSAC) in real time for the emerging application requirements of simultaneous sensing and communication for next-generation networks. Here, we propose and demonstrate the IOSAC system on the silicon nitride (SiN) photonics platform. The IOSAC devices based on microring resonators are capable of monitoring the variation of analytes, transmitting the information to the terminal along with the modulated optical signal in real-time, and replacing bulk optics in high-precision and high-speed applications. By directly integrating SiN ring resonators with optical communication networks, simultaneous sensing and optical communication are demonstrated by an optical signal transmission experimental system using especially filtering amplified spontaneous emission spectra. The refractive index (RI) sensing ring with a sensitivity of 172 nm/RIU, a figure of merit (FOM) of 1220, and a detection limit (DL) of 8.2*10-6 RIU is demonstrated. Simultaneously, the 1.25 Gbps optical on-off-keying (OOK) signal is transmitted at the concentration of different NaCl solutions, which indicates the bit-error-ratio (BER) decreases with the increase in concentration. The novel IOSAC technology shows the potential to realize high-performance simultaneous biosensing and communication in real time and further accelerate the development of IoT and 6G networks.

New John--Nirenberg--Campanato-Type Spaces Related to Both Maximal Functions and Their Commutators

Let $p,q\in [1,\infty]$, $\alpha\in{\mathbb{R}}$, and $s$ be a non-negative integer. In this article, the authors introduce a new function space $\widetilde{JN}_{(p,q,s)_{\alpha}}(\mathcal{X})$ of John-Nirenberg-Campanato type, where $\mathcal{X}$ denotes $\mathbb{R}^n$ or any cube $Q_{0}$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$ with finite edge length. The authors give an equivalent characterization of $\widetilde{JN}_{(p,q,s)_{\alpha}}(\mathcal{X})$ via both the John-Nirenberg-Campanato space and the Riesz-Morrey space. Moreover, for the particular case $s=0$, this new space can be equivalently characterized by both maximal functions and their commutators. Additionally, the authors give some basic properties, a good-$\lambda$ inequality, and a John-Nirenberg type inequality for $\widetilde{JN}_{(p,q,s)_{\alpha}}(\mathcal{X})$.

John--Nirenberg-$Q$ Spaces via Congruent Cubes

To shed some light on the John--Nirenberg space, the authors in this article introduce the John--Nirenberg-$Q$ space via congruent cubes, $JNQ^\alpha_{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, which when $p=\infty$ and $q=2$ coincides with the space $Q_\alpha(\mathbb{R}^n)$ introduced by Ess\'en et al. in [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 49 (2000), 575-615]. Moreover, the authors show that, for some particular indices, $JNQ^\alpha_{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ coincides with the congruent John--Nirenberg space, or that the (fractional) Sobolev space is continuously embedded into $JNQ^\alpha_{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^n)$. Furthermore, the authors characterize $JNQ^\alpha_{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ via mean oscillations, and then use this characterization to study the dyadic counterparts. Also, the authors obtain some properties of composition operators on such spaces. The main novelties of this article are twofold: establishing a general equivalence principle for a kind of `almost increasing' set function introduced in this article, and using the fine geometrical properties of dyadic cubes to properly classify any collection of cubes with pairwise disjoint interiors and equal edge length.

Boundedness of Fractional Integrals on Special John--Nirenberg--Campanato and Hardy-Type Spaces via Congruent Cubes

Let $p\in[1,\infty]$, $q\in[1,\infty)$, $s\in\mathbb{Z}_+:=\mathbb{N}\cup\{0\}$, and $\alpha\in\mathbb{R}$. In this article, the authors first find a reasonable version $\widetilde{I}_{\beta}$ of the (generalized) fractional integral $I_{\beta}$ on the special John--Nirenberg--Campanato space via congruent cubes, $JN_{(p,q,s)_\alpha}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, which coincides with the Campanato space $\mathcal{C}_{\alpha,q,s}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ when $p=\infty$. To this end, the authors introduce the vanishing moments up to order $s$ of $I_{\beta}$. Then the authors prove that $\widetilde{I}_{\beta}$ is bounded from $JN_{(p,q,s)_\alpha}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ to $JN_{(p,q,s)_{\alpha+\beta/n}}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ if and only if $I_{\beta}$ has the vanishing moments up to order $s$. The obtained result is new even when $p=\infty$ and $s\in\mathbb{N}$. Moreover, the authors show that $I_{\beta}$ can be extended to a unique continuous linear operator from the Hardy-kind space $HK_{(p,q,s)_{\alpha+\beta/n}}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, the predual of $JN_{(p',q',s)_{\alpha+\beta/n}}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ with $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{p'}=1=\frac{1}{q}+\frac{1}{q'}$, to $HK_{(p,q,s)_{\alpha}}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ if and only if $I_{\beta}$ has the vanishing moments up to order $s$. The proof of the latter boundedness strongly depends on the dual relation $(HK_{(p,q,s)_{\alpha}}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n))^* =JN_{(p',q',s)_\alpha}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, the properties of molecules of $HK_{(p,q,s)_\alpha}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, and a crucial criterion for the boundedness of linear operators on $HK_{(p,q,s)_\alpha}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$.

Boundedness of Calder\'on--Zygmund Operators on Special John--Nirenberg--Campanato and Hardy-Type Spaces via Congruent Cubes

Let $p\in[1,\infty]$, $q\in(1,\infty)$, $s\in\mathbb{Z}_+:=\mathbb{N}\cup\{0\}$, and $\alpha\in\mathbb{R}$. In this article, the authors introduce a reasonable version $\widetilde T$ of the Calder\'on--Zygmund operator $T$ on $JN_{(p,q,s)_\alpha}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, the special John--Nirenberg--Campanato space via congruent cubes, which coincides with the Campanato space $\mathcal{C}_{\alpha,q,s}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ when $p=\infty$. Then the authors prove that $\widetilde T$ is bounded on $JN_{(p,q,s)_\alpha}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ if and only if, for any $\gamma\in\mathbb{Z}_+^n$ with $|\gamma|\leq s$, $T^*(x^{\gamma})=0$, which is a well-known assumption. To this end, the authors find an equivalent version of this assumption. Moreover, the authors show that $T$ can be extended to a unique continuous linear operator on the Hardy-kind space $HK_{(p,q,s)_{\alpha}}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, the predual space of $JN_{(p',q',s)_\alpha}^{\mathrm{con}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ with $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{p'}=1=\frac{1}{q}+\frac{1}{q'}$, if and only if, for any $\gamma\in\mathbb{Z}_+^n$ with $|\gamma|\leq s$, $T^*(x^{\gamma})=0$.

Compactness Characterizations of Commutators on Ball Banach Function Spaces

Let $X$ be a ball Banach function space on ${\mathbb R}^n$. Let $\Omega$ be a Lipschitz function on the unit sphere of ${\mathbb R}^n$,which is homogeneous of degree zero and has mean value zero, and let $T_\Omega$ be the convolutional singular integral operator with kernel $\Omega(\cdot)/|\cdot|^n$. In this article, under the assumption that the Hardy--Littlewood maximal operator $\mathcal{M}$ is bounded on both $X$ and its associated space, the authors prove that the commutator $[b,T_\Omega]$ is compact on $X$ if and only if $b\in{\rm CMO}({\mathbb R}^n)$. To achieve this, the authors mainly employ three key tools: some elaborate estimates, given in this article, on the norm in $X$ of the commutators and the characteristic functions of some measurable subset, which are implied by the assumed boundedness of ${\mathcal M}$ on $X$ and its associated space as well as the geometry of $\mathbb R^n$; the complete John--Nirenberg inequality in $X$ obtained by Y. Sawano et al.; the generalized Fr\'{e}chet--Kolmogorov theorem on $X$ also established in this article. All these results have a wide range of applications. Particularly, even when $X:=L^{p(\cdot)}({\mathbb R}^n)$ (the variable Lebesgue space), $X:=L^{\vec{p}}({\mathbb R}^n)$ (the mixed-norm Lebesgue space), $X:=L^\Phi({\mathbb R}^n)$ (the Orlicz space), and $X:=(E_\Phi^q)_t({\mathbb R}^n)$ (the Orlicz-slice space or the generalized amalgam space), all these results are new.

XMO and Weighted Compact Bilinear Commutators

To study the compactness of bilinear commutators of certain bilinear Calder\'on--Zygmund operators which include (inhomogeneous) Coifman--Meyer bilinear Fourier multipliers and bilinear pseudodifferential operators as special examples, Torres and Xue [Rev. Mat. Iberoam. 36 (2020), 939--956] introduced a new subspace of BMO$\,(\mathbb{R}^n)$, denoted by XMO$\,(\mathbb{R}^n)$, and conjectured that it is just the space VMO$\,(\mathbb{R}^n)$ introduced by D. Sarason. In this article, the authors give a negative answer to this conjecture by establishing an equivalent characterization of XMO$\,(\mathbb{R}^n)$, which further clarifies that XMO$\,(\mathbb{R}^n)$ is a proper subspace of VMO$\,(\mathbb{R}^n)$. This equivalent characterization of XMO$\,(\mathbb{R}^n)$ is formally similar to the corresponding one of CMO$\,(\mathbb{R}^n)$ obtained by A. Uchiyama, but its proof needs some essential new techniques on dyadic cubes as well as some exquisite geometrical observations. As an application, the authors also obtain a weighted compactness result on such bilinear commutators, which optimizes the corresponding result in the unweighted setting.

Buerling-Ahlfors Commutators on Weighted Morrey Spaces and Applications to Beltrami Equations

Let $p\in(1, \infty)$, $\kappa\in(0, 1)$ and $w\in A_p(\mathbb C).$ In this article, the authors obtain a boundedness (resp., compactness) characterization of the Buerling-Ahlfors commutator $[\mathcal B, b]$ on the weighted Morrey space $L_w^{p,\,\kappa}(\mathbb C)$ via $\mathrm{BMO}(\mathbb C)$ [resp., $\mathrm{CMO}(\mathbb C)$], where $\mathcal B$ denotes the Buerling-Ahlfors transform and $b\in \mathrm{BMO}(\mathbb C)$ [resp., $\mathrm{CMO}(\mathbb C)$]. Moreover, an application to the Beltrami equation is also given.

Reconfigurable continuous-zoom metalens in visible

Design of a conventional zoom lens is always challengeable because it requires not only sophisticated optical design strategy, but also complex and precise mechanical structures for lens adjustment. In this paper, we propose a continuous zoom lens consisting of two chiral geometric metasurfaces with dielectric nanobrick arrays sitting on a transparent substrate. The metalens can continuously vary the focal length by rotating either of the two metasurfaces along its optical axis without changing any other conditions. More importantly, because of the polarization dependence of the geometric metasurface, the positive and negative polarities are interchangeable in one identical metalens only by changing the handedness of the incident circularly polarized light, which can generate varyingfocal lengths ranging from negative infinity to positive infinity in principle. On account of its advantages of compactness, flexibility and easiness in design, the proposed zoom metalens can provide new perspectives for the development of continuous-zoom optical system and it can find applications in fields which require ultracompact and continuous-zoom imaging and reconfigurable beam wavefront steering.

John--Nirenberg--Campanato Spaces

Let $p\in (1,\infty)$, $q\in[1,\infty)$, $\alpha\in [0,\infty)$ and $s$ be a non-negative integer. In this article, the authors introduce the John--Nirenberg-Campanato space $JN_{(p,q,s)_\alpha}(\mathcal{X})$, where $\mathcal{X}$ is ${\mathbb R}^n$ or any closed cube $Q_0\subsetneqq{\mathbb R}^n$, which when $\alpha=0$ and $s=0$ coincides with the $JN_p$-space introduced by F. John and L. Nirenberg in the sense of equivalent norms. The authors then give the predual space of $JN_{(p,q,s)_\alpha}(\mathcal{X})$ and a John-Nirenberg type inequality of John--Nirenberg-Campanato spaces. Moreover, the authors prove that the classical Campanato space serves as a limit space of $JN_{(p,q,s)_\alpha}(\mathcal{X})$ when $p\to \infty$.

Moderate deviation and central limit theorem for SDDEs with plynomial growth

In this paper, employing the weak convergence method, based on a variational representation for expected values of positive functionals of a Brownian motion, we investigate moderate deviation %(CLT for abbreviation) for a class of stochastic differential delay equations with small noises, where the coefficients are allowed to be highly nonlinear growth with respect to the variables. Moreover, we obtain the central limit theorem for stochastic differential delay equations which the coefficients are polynomial growth with respect to the delay variables.

Boundedness and compactness characterizations of Cauchy integral commutators on Morrey spaces

Let $C_\Gamma$ be the Cauchy integral operator on a Lipschitz curve $\Gamma$. In this article, the authors show that the commutator $[b,C_\Gamma]$ is bounded (resp., compact) on the Morrey space $L^{p,\,\lambda}(\mathbb R)$ for any (or some) $p\in(1, \infty)$ and $\lambda\in(0, 1)$ if and only if $b\in {\rm BMO}(\mathbb R)$ (resp., ${\rm CMO}(\mathbb R)$). As an application, a factorization of the classical Hardy space $H^1(\mathbb R)$ in terms of $C_\Gamma$ and its adjoint operator is obtained.
