PoLAR: Factorizing Extent and Mode in Latent Actions for Robot Policy Learning

Latent action pretraining learns representations of visual change from pairs of observations, but existing methods typically encode each transition as a single unstructured representation that entangles transition extent and transition mode. We introduce Polar Latent Actions with Radial structure (PoLAR), which imposes a radial-direction structure on latent actions, encouraging radius to encode transition extent and direction to retain transition mode. PoLAR uses temporal offset between two observations as a weak proxy for transition extent, encouraging latent action from observation pairs separated by larger temporal gaps to occupy larger radii. We instantiate this structure in hyperbolic space, whose expanding volume with radius offers a natural fit for more diverse transition modes at larger extents. Across in-task and large-scale pretraining settings, PoLAR improves downstream policy performance in simulation and real-world robot experiments, outperforming latent action baselines and strong pretrained VLAs. These results suggest that the geometry of the latent action space is an important design choice for transferring visual pretraining to downstream robot policy learning.

VisEscape: A Benchmark for Evaluating Exploration-driven Decision-making in Virtual Escape Rooms

Escape rooms present a unique cognitive challenge that demands exploration-driven planning: with the sole instruction to 'escape the room', players must actively search their environment, collecting information, and finding solutions through repeated trial and error. Motivated by this, we introduce VisEscape, a benchmark of 20 virtual escape rooms specifically designed to evaluate AI models under these challenging conditions, where success depends not only on solving isolated puzzles but also on iteratively constructing and refining spatial-temporal knowledge of a dynamically changing environment. On VisEscape, we observe that even state-of-the-art multi-modal models generally fail to escape the rooms, showing considerable variation in their progress and problem-solving approaches. We find that integrating memory management and reasoning contributes to efficient exploration and enables successive hypothesis formulation and testing, thereby leading to significant improvements in dynamic and exploration-driven environments

Computing Algorithm for an Equilibrium of the Generalized Stackelberg Game

The $1-N$ generalized Stackelberg game (single-leader multi-follower game) is intricately intertwined with the interaction between a leader and followers (hierarchical interaction) and the interaction among followers (simultaneous interaction). However, obtaining the optimal strategy of the leader is generally challenging due to the complex interactions among the leader and followers. Here, we propose a general methodology to find a generalized Stackelberg equilibrium of a $1-N$ generalized Stackelberg game. Specifically, we first provide the conditions where a generalized Stackelberg equilibrium always exists using the variational equilibrium concept. Next, to find an equilibrium in polynomial time, we transformed the $1-N$ generalized Stackelberg game into a $1-1$ Stackelberg game whose Stackelberg equilibrium is identical to that of the original. Finally, we propose an effective computation procedure based on the projected implicit gradient descent algorithm to find a Stackelberg equilibrium of the transformed $1-1$ Stackelberg game. We validate the proposed approaches using the two problems of deriving operating strategies for EV charging stations: (1) the first problem is optimizing the one-time charging price for EV users, in which a platform operator determines the price of electricity and EV users determine the optimal amount of charging for their satisfaction; and (2) the second problem is to determine the spatially varying charging price to optimally balance the demand and supply over every charging station.
