Muon-spin rotation studies of SmFeAsO_0.85 and NdFeAsO_0.85 superconductors

Measurements of the in-plane magnetic field penetration depth λ_{ab} in Fe-based superconductors with the nominal composition SmFeAsO_0.85 (T_c\simeq52K) and NdFeAsO_0.85 (T_c\simeq51K) were carried out by means of muon-spin-rotation. The absolute values of λ_{ab} at T=0 were found to be 189(5)nm and 195(5)nm for Sm and Nd substituted samples, respectively. The analysis of the magnetic penetration depth data within the Uemura classification scheme, which considers the correlation between the superconducting transition temperature T_c and the effective Fermi temperature T_F, reveal that both families of Fe-based superconductors (with and without fluorine) falls to the same class of unconventional superconductors.

Superconductivity and Phase Diagram in the Iron-based Arsenic-oxides ReFeAsO1-delta (Re = rare earth metal) without F-Doping

Here we report a new class of superconductors prepared by high pressure synthesis in the quaternary family ReFeAsO1-delta (Re = Sm, Nd, Pr, Ce, La) without fluorine doping. The onset superconducting critical temperature (Tc) in these compounds increases with the reduction of Re atom size, and the highest Tc obtained so far is 55 K in SmFeAsO1-delta. For the NdFeAsO1-delta system with different oxygen concentration a dome-shaped phase diagram was found.

Superconductivity at 41.0 K in the F-doped LaFeAsO1-xFx

Here we report the superconductivity in the LaFeAsO1-xFx system prepared by high pressure synthesis. The highest onset superconducting transition temperature (Tc) in this La-based system is 41.0 K with the nominal composition of LaFeAsO1-xFx (x = 0.6), which is higher than that reported previously by ambient pressure synthesis. The increase of Tc can be attributed to the further shrinkage of crystal lattice that causes the stronger chemical pressure on the Fe-As plane, which is induced by the increased F-doping level under high pressure synthesis.

New Anomalies in Topological String Theory

We show that the topological string partition function with D-branes on a compact Calabi-Yau manifold has new anomalies that spoil the recursive structure of the holomorphic anomaly equation and introduce dependence on wrong moduli (such as complex structure moduli in the A-model), unless the disk one-point functions vanish. This provides a microscopic explanation for the recent result of Walcher in arXiv:0712.2775 on counting of BPS states in M-theory using the topological string partition function. The relevance of vanishing disk one-point functions to large $N$ duality for compact Calabi-Yau manifolds is noted.

Superconductivity at 52 K in iron-based F-doped layered quaternary compound Pr[O1-xFx]FeAs

Since the discovery of copper oxide superconductor in 1986 [1], extensive efforts have been devoted to the search of new high-Tc superconducting materials, especially high-Tc systems other than cuprates. The recently discovered quaternary superconductor La[O1-xFx]FeAs with the superconducting critical transition Tc of 26 K [2], which has a much simple layered structure compared with cuprates, has attracted quick enthusiasm and is going to become a new high-Tc system [3-6]. Here we report the discovery of bulk superconductivity in the praseodymium-arsenide oxides Pr[O1-xFx]FeAs with an onset drop of resistivity as high as 52 K, and the unambiguous zero-resistivity and Meissner transition at low temperature, which will place these quaternary compounds to another high-Tc superconducting system explicitly.

Fabrication and Characterization of Two-Dimensional Photonic Crystal Microcavities in Nanocrystalline Diamond

Diamond-based photonic devices offer exceptional opportunity to study cavity QED at room temperature. Here we report fabrication and optical characterization of high quality photonic crystal (PC) microcavities based on nanocrystalline diamond. Fundamental modes near the emission wavelength of negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (N-V) centers (637 nm) with quality factors (Qs) as high as 585 were observed. Three-dimensional Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) simulations were carried out and had excellent agreement with experimental results in the values of the mode frequencies. Polarization measurements of the modes were characterized; their anomalous behavior provides important insights to scattering loss in these structures.

The total energy-momentum of the universe in teleparallel gravity

We investigate the conservation law of energy-momentum in teleparallel gravity by using general Noether theorem. The energy-momentum current has also superpotential and is therefore identically conserved. The total energy-momentum, which includes the contributions of both matter and gravitational fields, is given by the integral of scalar densities over a three-dimensional spacelike hypersurface. As an example, the universe in teleparallel gravity is investigated. It is shown that the total energy-momentum vanishes independently of both the curvature parameter and the three dimensionless coupling constants of teleparallel gravity.

Comments on the Holomorphic Anomaly in Open Topological String Theory

We show that a general solution to the extended holomorphic anomaly equations for the open topological string on D-branes in a Calabi-Yau manifold, recently written down by Walcher in arXiv:0705.4098, is obtained from the general solution to the holomorphic anomaly equations for the closed topological string on the same manifold, by shifting the closed string moduli by amounts proportional to the 't Hooft coupling.

Comments on 'Teleportation of two quNit entanglement: Exploiting local resources'and 'Reply to Yang et al.'s comment'

This paper includes two comments. The first one is a comment on 'Teleportation of two quNit entanglement: Exploiting local resources'. Two different efficient methods are presented to modify some details of N. Ba An's protocol, so that teleportation of two quNit entanglement can be successfully achieved in terms of the revised N. Ba An's protocol. The second one is a comment on 'Reply to Yang et al.'s comment'.

Cosmic Strings and Quintessence

We present a new Lorentz gauge invariant U(1) topological field theory in Riemann-Cartan spacetime manifold $U_{4}$. By virtue of the decomposition theory of U(1) gauge potential and the $ ϕ$--mapping topological current theory, it is proved that the U(1) complex scalar field $ϕ(x)$ can be looked upon as the order parameter field in our Universe, and the set of zero points of $ϕ(x)$ create the cosmic strings as the spacetime defects in the early Universe. In the standard cosmology this complex scalar order parameter field possesses negative pressure, provides an accelerating expansion of Universe and be able to explain the inflation in the early Universe. Therefore this complex scalar field is not only the order parameter field created the cosmic strings, but also reasonably behaves as the quintessence, the dark energy.
