Localization and mass spectra of various matter fields on scalar-tensor brane

Recently, a new scalar-tensor braneworld model was presented in [Phys. Rev. \textbf{D 86} (2012) 127502]. It not only solves the gauge hierarchy problem but also reproduces a correct Friedmann-like equation on the brane. In this new model, there are two different brane solutions, for which the mass spectra of gravity on the brane are the same. In this paper, we investigate localization and mass spectra of various bulk matter fields (i.e., scalar, vector, Kalb-Ramond, and fermion fields) on the brane. It is shown that the zero modes of all the matter fields can be localized on the positive tension brane under some conditions, and the mass spectra of each kind of bulk matter field for the two brane solutions are different, which implies that the two brane solutions are not physically equivalent.

Fermionization, Triangularization and Integrability

In this article, we derive the fermionic formalism of Hamiltonians as well as corresponding excitation spectrums and states of Calogero-Sutherland(CS), Laughlin and Halperin systems, respectively. In addition, we study the triangular property of these Hamiltonians and prove the integrability in these three cases.

A Percolation based M2M Networking Architecture for Data Transmission and Routing

We propose a percolation based M2M networking architecture and its data transmission method. The proposed network architecture can be server-free and router-free, which allows us to operate routing efficiently with percolations based on six degrees of separation theory in small world network modeling. The data transmission can be divided into two phases: routing and data transmission phases. In the routing phase, probe packets will be transmitted and forwarded in the network thus multiple paths are selected and performed based on the constriction of the maximum hop number. In the second phase, the information will be encoded, say, with the fountain codes, and transmitted using the paths generated in the first phase. In such a way, an efficient routing and data transmission mechanism can be built, which allow us to construct a low-cost, flexible and ubiquitous network. Such a networking architecture and data transmission can be used in many M2M communications, such as the stub network of internet of things, and deep space networking, and so on.

Particle collisions in the lower dimensional rotating black hole space-time with the cosmological constant

In this paper, we study the effect of ultra-high energy collisions of two particles with different energies near the horizon of a 2+1 dimensional BTZ black hole (BSW effect). We find that the particle with the critical angular momentum could exist inside the outer horizon of BTZ black hole regardless of the particle energy. Therefore, for the non-extremal BTZ black hole, the BSW process is possible on the inner horizon with the fine tuning of parameters which are characterized by the motion of particle. While for the extremal BTZ black hole, the particle with the critical angular momentum could only exist on the degenerate horizon, and the BSW process could also happen there.

Vertex Operators, $\mathbb{C}^3$ Curve and Topological Vertex

In this article, we prove the conjecture that Kodaira-Spencer theory for the topological vertex is a free fermion theory. By dividing the $\mathbb{C}^3$ curve into core and asymptotic regions and using Boson-Fermion correspondence, we construct a generic three-leg correlation function which reformulates the topological vertex in a vertex operator approach. We propose a conjecture of the correlation function identity which in a degenerate case becomes Zhou\rq{}s identity for a Hopf link.

Cluster-Based Regularized Sliced Inverse Regression for Forecasting Macroeconomic Variables

This article concerns the dimension reduction in regression for large data set. We introduce a new method based on the sliced inverse regression approach, called cluster-based regularized sliced inverse regression. Our method not only keeps the merit of considering both response and predictors' information, but also enhances the capability of handling highly correlated variables. It is justified under certain linearity conditions. An empirical application on a macroeconomic data set shows that our method has outperformed the dynamic factor model and other shrinkage methods.

Resonance Mass Spectra of Gravity and Fermion on Bloch Branes

In this paper, by presenting the potentials of Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes in the corresponding Schrödinger equations, we investigate the localization and resonances of gravity and fermion on the symmetric and asymmetric Bloch {branes}. We find that the localization properties of zero modes for gravity and fermion in the symmetric brane case are the same, whereas, for the asymmetric brane case, the fermion zero mode is localized on one of the sub-branes, while the gravity zero mode is localized on another sub-brane. The spectra of the gravity and the left- or right-handed fermion are composed of a bound zero mode and a series of gapless continuous massive KK modes. Among the continuous massive KK modes, we obtain some discrete gravity and fermion resonant (quasilocalized) KK states on the brane, which have a finite probability of escaping into the bulk. The KK states with lower resonant masses have a longer lifetime on the brane. And the number of the resonant KK states increases linearly with the width of the brane and the scalar-fermion coupling constant, {but it decreases with the asymmetric factor $β$}. The structure of the resonance spectrum is investigated in detail.

Analytic Solutions for D-optimal Factorial Designs under Generalized Linear Models

We develop two analytic approaches to solve D-optimal approximate designs under generalized linear models. The first approach provides analytic D-optimal allocations for generalized linear models with two factors, which include as a special case the $2^2$ main-effects model considered by Yang, Mandal and Majumdar (2012). The second approach leads to explicit solutions for a class of generalized linear models with more than two factors. With the aid of the analytic solutions, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition under which a D-optimal design with two quantitative factors could be constructed on the boundary points only. It bridges the gap between D-optimal factorial designs and D-optimal designs with continuous factors.

Sliced Inverse Moment Regression Using Weighted Chi-Squared Tests for Dimension Reduction

We propose a new method for dimension reduction in regression using the first two inverse moments. We develop corresponding weighted chi-squared tests for the dimension of the regression. The proposed method considers linear combinations of Sliced Inverse Regression (SIR) and the method using a new candidate matrix which is designed to recover the entire inverse second moment subspace. The optimal combination may be selected based on the p-values derived from the dimension tests. Theoretically, the proposed method, as well as Sliced Average Variance Estimate (SAVE), are more capable of recovering the complete central dimension reduction subspace than SIR and Principle Hessian Directions (pHd). Therefore it can substitute for SIR, pHd, SAVE, or any linear combination of them at a theoretical level. Simulation study indicates that the proposed method may have consistently greater power than SIR, pHd, and SAVE.

A Note On Heisenberg Categorification

A categorification of the Heisenberg algebra is constructed in by Khovanov using graphical calculus, and left with a conjecture on the isomorphism between the Heisenberg algebra and Grothendieck ring of the constructed category. We give a proof of Khovanov's conjectured statement in this paper from a categorification of some deformed Heisenberg algebra.

Categorification of the Heisenberg algebra and MacMahon function

Starting from a one dimensional vector space, we construct a categorification $'\mathcal H$ of a deformed Heiserberg algebra $'H$ by Cautis and Licata's method. The Grothendieck ring of $'\mathcal H$ is $'H$. As an application, we discuss some related partition functions related to the MacMahon function of 3D Young diagram. We expect further applications of the results of this paper.

D-optimal Factorial Designs under Generalized Linear Models

Generalized linear models (GLMs) have been used widely for modelling the mean response both for discrete and continuous random variables with an emphasis on categorical response. Recently Yang, Mandal and Majumdar (2013) considered full factorial and fractional factorial locally D-optimal designs for binary response and two-level experimental factors. In this paper, we extend their results to a general setup with response belonging to a single-parameter exponential family and for multi-level predictors.

Outperformance Portfolio Optimization via the Equivalence of Pure and Randomized Hypothesis Testing

We study the portfolio problem of maximizing the outperformance probability over a random benchmark through dynamic trading with a fixed initial capital. Under a general incomplete market framework, this stochastic control problem can be formulated as a composite pure hypothesis testing problem. We analyze the connection between this pure testing problem and its randomized counterpart, and from latter we derive a dual representation for the maximal outperformance probability. Moreover, in a complete market setting, we provide a closed-form solution to the problem of beating a leveraged exchange traded fund. For a general benchmark under an incomplete stochastic factor model, we provide the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman PDE characterization for the maximal outperformance probability.

Thick Brane Split Caused by Spacetime Torsion

In this paper we apply the five-dimensional $f(T)$ gravity with $f(T)=T+k T^n$ to brane scenario to explore the solutions under a given warp factor, and we find that the analytic domain wall solution will be a double-kink solution when the geometric effect of spacetime torsion is strongly enhanced. We also investigate the localization of fermion fields on the split branes corresponding to the double-kink solution.

Classification based on a permanental process with cyclic approximation

We introduce a doubly stochastic marked point process model for supervised classification problems. Regardless of the number of classes or the dimension of the feature space, the model requires only 2--3 parameters for the covariance function. The classification criterion involves a permanental ratio for which an approximation using a polynomial-time cyclic expansion is proposed. The approximation is effective even if the feature region occupied by one class is a patchwork interlaced with regions occupied by other classes. An application to DNA microarray analysis indicates that the cyclic approximation is effective even for high-dimensional data. It can employ feature variables in an efficient way to reduce the prediction error significantly. This is critical when the true classification relies on non-reducible high-dimensional features.

Multiple Superconducting Gaps, Anisotropic Spin Fluctuations and Spin-Orbit Coupling in Iron-Pnictides

This article reviews the NMR and NQR studies on iron-based high-temperature superconductors by the IOP/Okayama group. It was found that the electron pairs in the superconducting state are in the spin-singlet state with multiple fully-opened energy gaps. The antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations in the normal state are found to be closely correlated with the superconductivity. Also the antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations are anisotropic in the spin space, which is different from the case in copper oxide superconductors. This anisotropy originates from the spin-orbit coupling and is an important reflection of the multiple-bands nature of this new class of superconductors.

Particle Acceleration in Kerr-(anti-) de Sitter Black Hole Backgrounds

Recently, Banãdos, Silk and West (BSW) found that the center-of-mass energy of two colliding test particles in the neighborhood of an extreme Kerr black hole could be arbitrarily high when one particle has the critical angular momentum $L_\text{C}$. In their paper, they considered the black holes living in a Minkowski space-time with a zero cosmological constant. In this work, we study this process of particles in the backgrounds of the Kerr black holes living in a space-time with a nonzero cosmological constant. We find that for kerr black holes living in a space-time with a negative cosmological constant (Kerr-anti-de Sitter black holes), this process of particles could happen only if the Kerr-anti-de Sitter black hole is extreme and an additional fine tuning is satisfied; while for kerr black holes living in a space-time with a positive cosmological constant (Kerr-de Sitter black holes), this process of particles could happen no matter the Kerr-de Sitter black hole is extreme or not. We also study the particle collision outside the outer horizon of the Kerr-(anti-) de Sitter black hole in some cases. We find that there is a possibility that we could tune one colliding particle's angular momentum to gain the large center-of-mass energy without increase the particle's energy.

Refined Wall-Crossing, Free Fermions and Crystal Melting

In this paper, we use an M-theory model to conjecture the refined reminiscence of the OSV formula connecting the refined topological string partition function with the refined BPS states partition function for the toric Calabi-Yau threefolds without any compact four cycles. Further, we show how to use the vertex operators in 2d free fermions to reproduce the refined BPS states partition function for the $\mathbb{C}^3$ case and the wall-crossing formulas of the refined BPS states partition function for the resolved conifold and $\mathcal{O}(-2)\oplus\mathcal{O}\rightarrow \mathbb{P}^1$ cases.
