Lattice Boltzmann simulation of electrowetting-on-dielectric in a rough-wall channel

A lattice Boltzmann model was proposed to simulate electrowetting-on-dielectric (EWOD). The insulative vapor and the electrolyte liquid droplet were simulated by the lattice Boltzmann method respectively, and the linear property between cosine of contact angle and the electric field force confirms the reliability of this model. In the simulation of electrolyte flowing in a rough-wall channel under an external electric field, we found that a narrow channel is more sensitive than a broad channel and the flux decreases monotonously as the electric field increase, but may suddenly increase if the electric field is strong enough.

Linear Optical Implemention of a Quantum Network for Quantum Estimation

We present a scheme for simulating the quantum network of quantum estimation proposed by A. K. Ekert et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 217901 (2002)]. We experimentally implement the scheme with linear optical elements. We perform overlap measurements of two single-qubit states and entanglement-witness measurements of some two-qubit states. In addition, it can also be used for entanglement quantification for some kinds of states. From the other perspective, we physically realize the positive but not completely positive map, transposition.

Observation of electric current induced by optically injected spin current

A normally incident light of linear polarization injects a pure spin current in a strip of 2-dimensional electron gas with spin-orbit coupling. We report observation of an electric current with a butterfly-like pattern induced by such a light shed on the vicinity of a crossbar shaped InGaAs/InAlAs quantum well. Its light polarization dependence is the same as that of the spin current. We attribute the observed electric current to be converted from the optically injected spin current caused by scatterings near the crossing. Our observation provides a realistic technique to detect spin currents, and opens a new route to study the spin-related science and engineering in semiconductors.

Interference of quantum channels in single photon interferometer

We experimently demonstrate the interference of dephasing quantum channel using single photon Mach-Zender interferometer. We extract the information inaccessible to the technology of quantum tomography. Further, We introduce the application of our results in quantum key distribution.

Transverse electric current induced by optically injected spin current in cross-shaped InGaAs/InAlAs system

We examine electric response of a linearly polarized light normally shed on a cross-shaped quasi 2-dimensional InGaAs/InAlAs system with structure inversion asymmetry. The photo-excited conduction electrons carry a pure spin current with in-plane spin polarization due to the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. We use Landauer-Büttiker formalism to show that this spin current induces two inward or outward transverse charge currents, which are observable in experiments. This effect may serve as an experimental probe of certain types of spin current.

Remote Implementation of Quantum Operations

Shared entanglement allows, under certain conditions, the remote implementation of quantum operations. We revise and extend recent theoretical results on the remote control of quantum systems as well as experimental results on the remote manipulation of photonic qubits via linear optical elements.

Entanglement of the Hermite-Gaussian modes states of photons

We found that the Hermit-Gaussian(HG) modes of the down converted beams from the spontaneous parametric down conversion are quasi-conserved and the generated photon pairs are HG modes entangled for some special cases. This is valuable for either the investigation of fundament properties of multi-dimensional entanglement or quantum information applications.

Charge Hall effect driven by spin-dependent chemical potential gradients and Onsager relations in mesoscopic systems

We study theoretically the spin-Hall effect as well as its reciprocal phenomenon (a transverse charge current driven by a spin-dependent chemical potential gradient) in electron and hole finite size mesoscopic systems. The Landauer-Buttiker-Keldysh formalism is used to model samples with mobilities and Rashba coupling strengths which are experimentally accessible and to demonstrate the appearance of measurable charge currents induced by the spin-dependent chemical potential gradient in the reciprocal spin-Hall effect. We also demonstrate that within the mesoscopic coherent transport regime the Onsager relations are fulfilled for the disorder averaged conductances for electron and hole mesoscopic systems.

Teleporting a rotation on remote photons

Quamtum remote rotation allows implement local quantum operation on remote systems with shared entanglement. Here we report an experimental demonstration of remote rotation on single photons using linear optical element. And the local dephase is also teleported during the process. The scheme can be generalized to any controlled rotation commutes with $σ_{z}$.

Spin resolved Hall effect driven by spin-orbit coupling

Spin and electric Hall currents are calculated numerically in a two-dimensional mesoscopic system with Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling by means of the Landauer-Buttiker formalism. It is found that both electric and spin Hall currents circulate when two spin-orbit couplings coexist, while the electric Hall conductance vanishes if either one is absent. The electric and spin Hall conductances are suppressed in strong disorder, but survive in weak disorder. Physically it can be understood that the spinomotive transverse "force" generated by spin-orbit coupling is responsible for the formation of the spin Hall current and the lack of transverse reflection symmetry is the origin of the electric Hall current.

Remote Preparation of Mixed States via Noisy Entanglement

We present a practical and general scheme of remote preparation for pure and mixed state, in which an auxiliary qubit and controlled-NOT gate are used. We discuss the remote state preparation (RSP) in two important types of decoherent channel (depolarizing and dephaseing). In our experiment, we realize RSP in the dephaseing channel by using spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC), linear optical elements and single photon detector.

Engineering of multi-dimensional entangled states of photon pairs using hyper-entanglement

Multi-dimensional entangled states have been proven to be more powerful in some quantum information process. In this paper, down-converted photons from spontaneous parametric down conversion(SPDC) are used to engineer multi-dimensional entangled states. A kind of multi-degree multi-dimensional Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger(GHZ) state can also be generated. The hyper-entangled photons, which are entangled in energy-time, polarization and orbital angular momentum (OAM), is proved to be useful to increase the dimension of systems and investigate higher-dimensional entangled states.

Orbital angular momentum of the down converted photons

We calculate the relative amplitude of orbital angular momentum (OAM) entangled photon pairs from the spontaneous parametric down conversion. The results show that the amplitude depends on both the two Laguerre indices l, p. We also discuss the influences of the mostly used holograms and mono-mode fibers for mode analyzation. We conclude that only a few dimensions can be explored from the infinite OAM modes of the down-converted photon pairs.

Scheme for the preparation of the multi-particle entanglement in cavity QED

Here we present a quantum electrodynamics (QED) model involving a large-detuned single-mode cavity field and $n$ identical two-level atoms. One of its applications for the preparation of the multi-particle states is analyzed. In addition to the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state, the W class states can also be generated in this scheme. The further analysis for the experiment of the model of $n=2$ case is also presented by considering the possible three-atom collision.

Quantum Key Distribution and Quantum Authentication Based on Entangled State

Using the previously shared Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pairs, a proposal which can be used to distribute a quantum key and identify the user's identification simultaneously is presented. In this scheme, two local unitary operations and the Bell state measurement are used. Combined with quantum memories, a cryptographic network is proposed. One advantage is no classical communication is needed, which make the scheme more secure. The secure analysis of this scheme is shown.

A novel quantum key distribution scheme with orthogonal product states

The general conditions for the orthogonal product states of the multi-state systems to be used in quantum key distribution (QKD) are proposed, and a novel QKD scheme with orthogonal product states in the 3x3 Hilbert space is presented. We show that this protocol has many distinct features such as great capacity, high efficiency. The generalization to nxn systems is also discussed and a fancy limitation for the eavesdropper's success probability is reached.
