Analysis of Memory-Runtime Trade-offs in Caching Strategies for Genetic Programming Symbolic Regression

Genetic Programming Symbolic Regression (GPSR) generates mathematical expressions to model input-output relationships using an evolutionary process. A significant challenge in GPSR lies in the repeated evaluation of entire expressions or their sub-expression, which inflates computational runtime. To address this inefficiency, caching mechanisms have been employed to reduce redundant computations. However, prior studies predominantly employ a single caching strategy, offering limited insights into their comparative performance or memory-runtime trade-offs. In this paper, we present a comprehensive analysis of caching mechanisms for GPSR on synthetic and real-world datasets. We also include an empirical study of key-value usage frequencies under an infinitely large cache, offering insights into optimal cache sizing. Furthermore, we provide actionable guidelines for configuring caching strategies based on computational and memory constraints. Our findings indicate that complex caching mechanisms necessitate a minimum cache size to achieve computational time reductions. Conversely, lightweight caching strategies, such as Least Recently Used (LRU) and, notably, First-In-First-Out (FIFO), can significantly decrease computation time for fitness evaluations, which are a substantial component of the overall runtime.

Bound, antibound and resonance two-photon states in chiral waveguide QED

We present a theoretical study of the two-particle spectrum $\omega(K)$ for the chiral waveguide QED setup of an array of two-level atoms directionally interacting with photons propagating along the waveguide. We demonstrate that for each pair center-of-mass momentum $K$ there exist distinct solutions with $\Im\omega\le 0$ in the two-particle spectrum, corresponding to bound, antibound and resonance states, in addition to the continuum of scattering states. Contrary to previous studies, which showed the bound and resonance-state spectra only over a limited range of $K$, the calculated spectrum is consistent across all $K$ values. An interesting finding is that the real part of the spectrum $\Re \omega(K)$ in the chiral model is gapless. The calculated dispersion law $\omega(K)$ provides an effective model for the bound photon pairs also in a finite-size array, manifesting the topological non-Hermitian skin effect.

No oscillating subradiant correlations in a strongly driven quantum emitter array

We theoretically study time-dependent correlations in a strongly driven array of $N$ two-level atoms, coupled to photons in a waveguide. We focus on the spectrum $\{\lambda\}$ of the Liouvillian superoperator, which determines the correlation decay rates $-\Re \lambda$ and the frequencies $\Im\lambda$. Our main finding is the suppression of subradiant oscillating correlations between atomic states by a strong coherent drive of amplitude $\Omega$: $|\Re \lambda|\ge m\gamma/2$, where $\gamma$ is the single-atom spontaneous decay rate and $m=|\Im \lambda/(2\Omega)|$ is a nonzero integer for correlations oscillating in time $\propto \exp(\pm 2i m|\Omega| t)$. This limit is independent of the number of atoms $N$; it holds both for small arrays and in the macroscopic limit. We demonstrate the suppression of subradiance numerically and provide a rigorous proof based on the analytical decomposition of the Liouvillian using spectral theory of simplicial complexes and posets.

Chiral Dissociation of Bound Photon Pairs for a Non-Hermitian Skin Effect

We theoretically study the bound states of interacting photons propagating in a waveguide chirally coupled to an array of atoms. We demonstrate that the bound photon pairs can concentrate at the edge of the array and link this to the non-Hermitian skin effect. Unlike tight-binding non-Hermitian setups, the bound states in the waveguide-coupled array exhibit infinite radiative lifetimes when the array has an infinite size. However, in a finite array, non-Hermiticity and localization of bound pairs emerge due to their chiral dissociation into scattering states. Counterintuitively, when the photons are preferentially emitted to the right, the bound pairs are localized at the left edge of the array and vice versa.

Multimer states in multilevel waveguide QED

We study theoretically the interplay of spontaneous emission and interactions for the multiple-excited quasistationary eigenstates in a finite periodic array of multilevel atoms coupled to the waveguide. We develop an analytical approach to calculate such eigenstates based on the subradiant dimer basis. Our calculations reveal the peculiar multimerization effect driven by the anharmonicity of the atomic potential: while a general eigenstate is an entangled one, there exist eigenstates that are products of dimers, trimers, or tetramers, depending on the size of the system and the fill factor. At half-filling, these product states acquire a periodic structure with all-to-all connections inside each multimer and become the most subradiant ones.

Cosmological Inflation and Dark Sector from 11D Supergravity

We explore compactifications of the form of three tori with a general genus and one circle in the framework of 11D supergravity. By imposing suitable gauge conditions and boundary conditions, we find that the FRW universe with four extended spacetime dimensions and seven extremely small compactified spatial dimensions emerges as a solution for the 11D supergravity. These specific compactification methods can produce cosmological inflation that aligns with the observational constraints set by the 2021 BICEP/Keck and Planck 2018 results. In the cosmological inflation models we construct, the inflaton can be interpreted as the conformal vibrations of extra dimensions with a size around 10^5 times the reduced Planck length. Additionally, we offer the theoretical predictions for the mass of the inflaton, and the tree-level Newton's gravity law between two massive point particles surrounded by a spherically symmetric distribution of the inflaton, which can reproduce the Tully-Fisher relation and explain the flat rotation curves of galaxies.

Cosmological constraints in covariant $f(Q)$ gravity with different connections

Recently it has been shown that the cosmological dynamics of covariant $f(Q)$ gravity depend on different affine connections. In this paper, two specific $f(Q)$ models are investigated with SNe+CC+BAO+QSO observational data, and the spatial curvature of the universe is studied in covariant $f(Q)$ gravity. It is found that the parameters $\mathcal{X}_0$ and $\mathcal{X}'_0$ characterizing affine connections significantly affect the behavior of the effective equation of state $w_Q$ and may drive it across the phantom divide line. These results imply some inertial effects of the universe change the cosmic dynamics. However based on the Bayesian evidence, the zero inertial effect is more favored in the flat universe. Moreover, a closed universe is favored not only in the $\Lambda$CDM model but also in covariant $f(Q)$ gravity. The $f(Q)$ models have less support evidence than the $\Lambda$CDM model in the non-flat universe.

On Primordial Black Holes and secondary gravitational waves generated from inflation with solo/multi-bumpy potential

It is well known that a primordial black hole (PBH) can be generated in the inflation process of the early universe, especially when the inflation field has a number of non-trivial features that could break the slow-roll condition. In this study, we investigate a toy model of inflation with bumpy potential, which has one or several bumps. We determined that the potential with multi-bump can generate power spectra with multi-peaks in small-scale region, which can in turn predict the generation of primordial black holes in various mass ranges. We also consider the two possibilities of PBH formation by spherical and elliptical collapses. Finally, we discuss the scalar-induced gravitational waves(SIGWs)generated by linear scalar perturbations at second order.

Adiabatic Duality: Duality of cosmological models with varying slow-roll parameter and sound speed

There have been thousands of cosmological models for our early universe proposed in the literature, and many of them claimed to be able to give rise to scale-invariant power spectrum as was favored by the observational data. It is thus interesting to think about whether there are some relations among them, e.g., the duality relation. In this paper, we investigate duality relations between cosmological models in framework of general relativity (GR) , not only with varying slow-roll parameter $\epsilon$, but also with sound speed $c_s$, which can then be understood as "adiabatic duality". Several duality relationships are formulated analytically and verified numerically. We show that models with varying $\epsilon$ and constant $c_s$ can be dual in scalar spectral index, but not tensor one. On the other hand, allowing both $\epsilon$ and $c_s$ to vary can make models dual in both scalar and tensor spectral indices.

Large $r$ against Trans-Planckian Censorship in Scalar-Tensor Theory?

In this paper, we discuss about the possibility to enhance the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ under the condition of Trans-Planckian censorship conjecture (TCC), thus $r\sim O(10^{-3})$ could be observable within the sensitivity of future experiments. We make use of the scalar-tensor theory where inflaton is nonminimally coupled to gravity. After demonstrating that the TCC condition could be modified in scalar-tensor theory, we show that due to the effects of modified gravity at the end of inflation, a large $r\sim O(10^{-3})$ could be allowed without violating the TCC. Moreover, the modification can give rise to a weak coupling of gravity to the inflation field. If such an effect has been present as early as inflation starts, it would imply that in our case, the Universe might have experienced an asymptotically safe period at its early time.

Potential-driven Inflation with Disformal Coupling to Gravity

In this paper, we investigate the potential-driven inflation models with a disformal coupling to Einstein Gravity, to find out the effects of such a coupling on these models. We consider a simple coupling form which introduces only one parameter, and three inflation models, namely the chaotic inflation, the Higgs inflation, and the monodromy inflation. We find that the disformal coupling can have some modifications to the observational variables of these models such as the power spectrum, the spectral index as well as the tensor/scalar ratio, although not too large due to the constraints on the disformal coupling parameter. With these modifications, one has the opportunity of improving models that lie on the edge of the favorable regions of Planck observational data, such as monodromy inflation. Moreover, the non-trivial sound speed of tensor perturbations (gravitational waves) may come out, due to the coupling of gravity and kinetic terms of the field.

Dark matter candidate induced by Horndeski theory: dark matter halo and cosmological evolution

We study spherically symmetric solutions with a scalar field in the shift-symmetric subclass of the Horndeski theory. Constructing an effective energy-momentum tensor of the scalar field based on the two-fluid model, we decompose the scalar field into two components: dark matter and dark energy. We find the dark-matter fluid is pressure-less, and its distribution of energy density obeys the inverse-square law. We show the scalar field dark matter can explain the galaxy rotation curve and discuss the time evolution of the dark matter in the cosmic background.

Anisotropic Inflation with General Potentials

Anomalies in recent observational data indicate that there might be some "anisotropic hair" generated in an inflation period. To obtain general information about the effects of this anisotropic hair to inflation models, we studied anisotropic inflation models that involve one vector and one scalar using several types of potentials. We determined the general relationship between the degree of anisotropy and the fraction of the vector and scalar fields, and concluded that the anisotropies behave independently of the potentials. We also generalized our study to the case of multi-directional anisotropies.
