Expected values for SUSY hierarchies of Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian

The aim of this letter is to compute the evolution of some expected values, such as the field operators $a^\pm$, quadratures and atomic inversion, under supersymmetric (SUSY) partner Hamiltonians associated to the Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian of quantum optics. This kind of SUSY partners are characterized by having spectra which differ in a finite number of energy levels. We wish to elucidate if the partner connection has any influence on these expected values. In particular, we want also to know in which way the classical and revival times are affected by such SUSY partners.

SUSY hierarchies of Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonians with different detuning parameters

The aim of this work is to show how supersymmetric (SUSY) quantum mechanics can be applied to the Jaynes-Cummings (JC) Hamiltonian of quantum optics. These SUSY transformations connect pairs of Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonians characterized by different detuning parameters as well as Jaynes-Cummings to anti-Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonians. Therefore, JC Hamiltonians can be classified in hierarchies or sequences which are connected through SUSY transformations. As a byproduct, the symmetries of JC Hamiltonians are found as well as the special case of a sequence of resonant-like interacting systems having the form of a simple shape invariant JC Hamiltonian hierarchy.

Demkov-Fradkin tensor for curved harmonic oscillators

In this work, we obtain the Demkov-Fradkin tensor of symmetries for the quantum curved harmonic oscillator in a space with constant curvature given by a parameter $\kappa$. In order to construct this tensor we have firstly found a set of basic operators which satisfy the following conditions: i) their products give symmetries of the problem; in fact the Hamiltonian is a combination of such products; ii) they generate the space of eigenfunctions as well as the eigenvalues in an algebraic way; iii) in the limit of zero curvature, they come into the well known creation/annihilation operators of the flat oscillator. The appropriate products of such basic operators will produce the curved Demkov-Fradkin tensor. However, these basic operators do not satisfy Heisenberg commutators but close another Lie algebra. As a by-product, the classical Demkov-Fradkin tensor for the classical curved harmonic oscillator has been obtained by the same method. The case of two dimensions has been worked out in detail: the operators close a $so_\kappa(4)$ Lie algebra; the spectrum and eigenfunctions are explicitly solved in an algebraic way and in the classical case the trajectories have been computed.

Electric and magnetic waveguides in graphene: quantum and classical

Electric and magnetic waveguides are considered in planar Dirac materials like graphene as well as their classical version for relativistic particles of zero mass and electric charge. In order to solve the Dirac-Weyl equation analytically, we have assumed the displacement symmetry of the system along a direction. In these conditions we have examined the rest of symmetries relevant each type, magnetic or electric system, which will determine their similarities and differences. We have worked out waveguides with square profile in detail to show up some of the most interesting features also in quantum and classical complementary contexts. All the results have been visualized along a series of representative graphics showing explicitly the main properties for both types of waveguides.

SUSY partners and $S$-matrix poles of the one dimensional Rosen-Morse II Hamiltonian

Among the list of one dimensional solvable Hamiltonians, we find the Hamiltonian with the Rosen--Morse II potential. The first objective is to analyze the scattering matrix corresponding to this potential. We show that it includes a series of poles corresponding to the types of redundant poles or anti-bound poles. In some cases, there are even bound states and this depends on the values of given parameters. Then, we perform different supersymmetric transformations on the original Hamiltonian either using the ground state (for those situations where there are bound states) wave functions, or other solutions that come from anti-bound states or redundant states. We study the properties of these transformations.

Quantum, classical symmetries and action-angle variables by factorization of superintegrable systems

The purpose of this work is to present a method based on the factorizations used in one dimensional quantum mechanics in order to find the symmetries of quantum and classical superintegrable systems in higher dimensions. We apply this procedure to the harmonic oscillator and Kepler-Coulomb systems to show the differences with other more standard approaches. We have described in detail the basic ingredients to make explicit the parallelism of classical and quantum treatments. One of the most interesting results is the finding of action-angle variables as a natural component of the classical sysmmetries within this formalism.

Graphene Dirac fermions in symmetric electric and magnetic fields: the case of an electric square well

In this paper, a simple method is proposed to get analytical solutions (or with the help of a finite numerical calculations) of the Dirac-Weyl equation for low energy electrons in graphene in the presence of certain electric and magnetic fields. In order to decouple the Dirac-Weyl equation we have assumed a displacement symmetry of the system along a direction and some conditions on the magnetic and electric fields. The resulting equations have the natural form to apply the technique of supersymmetric quantum mechanics. The example of an electric well with square profile is worked out in detail to illustrate some of the most interesting features of this procedure.

Dirac fermions in armchair graphene nanoribbons trapped by electric quantum dots

We study the confinement of Dirac fermions in armchair graphene nanoribbons by means of a quantum-dot-type electrostatic potential. With the use of specific projection operators, we find exact solutions for some bound states that satisfy appropriate boundary conditions. We show that the energies of these bound states belong either to the gap of valence and conducting bands or they represent BIC's (bound states in the continuum) whose energies are embedded in the continuous spectrum.

Coherent states in the symmetric gauge for graphene under a constant perpendicular magnetic field

In this work we describe semiclassical states in graphene under a constant perpendicular magnetic field by constructing coherent states in the Barut-Girardello sense. Since we want to keep track of the angular momentum, the use of the symmetric gauge and polar coordinates seemed the most logical choice. Different classes of coherent states are obtained by means of the underlying algebra system, which consists of the direct sum of two Heisenberg-Weyl algebras. The most interesting cases are a kind of partial coherent states and the coherent states with a well-defined total angular momentum.

Polynomial algebras from $su(3)$ and the generic model on the two sphere

Construction of superintegrable systems based on Lie algebras have been introduced over the years. However, these approaches depend on explicit realisations, for instance as a differential operators, of the underlying Lie algebra. This is also the case for the construction of their related symmetry algebra which take usually the form of a finitely generated quadratic algebra. These algebras often display structure constants which depend on the central elements and in particular on the Hamiltonian. In this paper, we develop a new approach reexamining the case of the generic superintegrable systems on the 2-sphere for which a symmetry algebra is known to be the Racah algebra $R(3)$. Such a model is related to the 59 $2D$ superintegrable systems on conformally flat spaces and their 12 equivalence classes. We demonstrate that using further polynomials of degree 2,3 and 4 in the enveloping algebra of $su(3)$ one can generate an algebra based only on abstract commutation relations of $su(3)$ Lie algebra without explicit constraints on the representations or realisations. This construction relies on the maximal Abelian subalgebra, also called MASA, which are the Cartan generators and their commutant. We obtain a new 6-dimensional cubic algebra where the structure constant are integer numbers which reduce from a quartic algebra for which the structure constant depend on the Cartan generator and the Casimir invariant. We also present other form of the symmetry algebra using the quadratic and cubic Casimir invariants of $su(3)$. It reduces as the known quadratic Racah algebra $R(3)$ only when using an explicit realization. This algebraic structure describe the symmetry of the generic superintegrable systems on the 2 sphere. We also present a contraction to another 6-dimensional cubic algebra which would corresponding to the symmetry algebra of a Smorodinsky-Winternitz model.

Solutions to the Painlevé V equation through supersymmetric quantum mechanics

In this paper we shall use the algebraic method known as supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY QM) to obtain solutions to the Painlevé V (PV) equation, a second-order non-linear ordinary differential equation. For this purpose, we will apply first the SUSY QM treatment to the radial oscillator. In addition, we will revisit the polynomial Heisenberg algebras (PHAs) and we will study the general systems ruled by them: for first-order PHAs we obtain the radial oscillator, while for third-order PHAs the potential will be determined by solutions to the PV equation. This connection allows us to introduce a simple technique for generating solutions of the PV equation expressed in terms of confluent hypergeometric functions. Finally, we will classify them into several solution hierarchies.

The anisotropic oscillator on curved spaces: A new exactly solvable model

We present a new exactly solvable (classical and quantum) model that can be interpreted as the generalization to the two-dimensional sphere and to the hyperbolic space of the two-dimensional anisotropic oscillator with any pair of frequencies $ω_x$ and $ω_y$. The new curved Hamiltonian ${H}_κ$ depends on the curvature $κ$ of the underlying space as a deformation/contraction parameter, and the Liouville integrability of ${H}_κ$ relies on its separability in terms of geodesic parallel coordinates, which generalize the Cartesian coordinates of the plane. Moreover, the system is shown to be superintegrable for commensurate frequencies $ω_x: ω_y$, thus mimicking the behaviour of the flat Euclidean case, which is always recovered in the $κ\to 0$ limit. The additional constant of motion in the commensurate case is, as expected, of higher-order in the momenta and can be explicitly deduced by performing the classical factorization of the Hamiltonian. The known $1:1$ and $2:1$ anisotropic curved oscillators are recovered as particular cases of ${H}_κ$, meanwhile all the remaining $ω_x: ω_y$ curved oscillators define new superintegrable systems. Furthermore, the quantum Hamiltonian $\hat {H}_κ$ is fully constructed and studied by following a quantum factorization approach. In the case of commensurate frequencies, the Hamiltonian $\hat {H}_κ$ turns out to be quantum superintegrable and leads to a new exactly solvable quantum model. Its corresponding spectrum, that exhibits a maximal degeneracy, is explicitly given as an analytical deformation of the Euclidean eigenvalues in terms of both the curvature $κ$ and the Planck constant $\hbar$. In fact, such spectrum is obtained as a composition of two one-dimensional (either trigonometric or hyperbolic) Pösch-Teller set of eigenvalues.

Factorization approach to superintegrable systems: Formalism and applications

The factorization technique for superintegrable Hamiltonian systems is revisited and applied in order to obtain additional (higher-order) constants of the motion. In particular, the factorization approach to the classical anisotropic oscillator on the Euclidean plane is reviewed, and new classical (super)integrable anisotropic oscillators on the sphere are constructed. The Tremblay-Turbiner-Winternitz system on the Euclidean plane is also studied from this viewpoint.

Carbon nanotubes in almost homogeneous transverse magnetic field: exactly solvable model

A class of exactly solvable models describing carbon nanotubes in the presence of an external inhomogeneous magnetic field is considered. The framework of the continuum approximation is employed, where the motion of the charge carriers is governed by the Dirac- Weyl equation. The explicit solution of a particular example is provided. It is shown that these models possess nontrivial integrals of motion that establish N = 2 nonlinear supersymmetry in case of metallic and maximally semiconducting nanotubes. Remarkable stability of energy levels with respect to small fluctuations of longitudinal momentum is demonstrated

Solutions of the Dirac Equation in a Magnetic Field and Intertwining Operators

The intertwining technique has been widely used to study the Schrödinger equation and to generate new Hamiltonians with known spectra. This technique can be adapted to find the bound states of certain Dirac Hamiltonians. In this paper the system to be solved is a relativistic particle placed in a magnetic field with cylindrical symmetry whose intensity decreases as the distance to the symmetry axis grows and its field lines are parallel to the $x-y$ plane. It will be shown that the Hamiltonian under study turns out to be shape invariant.

Intertwining Symmetry Algebras of Quantum Superintegrable Systems

We present an algebraic study of a kind of quantum systems belonging to a family of superintegrable Hamiltonian systems in terms of shape-invariant intertwinig operators, that span pairs of Lie algebras like $(su(n),so(2n))$ or $(su(p,q),so(2p,2q))$. The eigenstates of the associated Hamiltonian hierarchies belong to unitary representations of these algebras. It is shown that these intertwining operators, related with separable coordinates for the system, are very useful to determine eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Hamiltonians in the hierarchy. An study of the corresponding superintegrable classical systems is also included for the sake of completness.

Darboux transformations of the Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian

A detailed analysis of matrix Darboux transformations under the condition that the derivative of the superpotential be self-adjoint is given. As a onsequence, a class of the symmetries associated to Schrödinger matrix Hamiltonians is characterized. The applications are oriented towards the Jaynes-Cummings eigenvalue problem, so that exactly solvable $2\times 2$ matrix Hamiltonians of the Jaynes-Cummings type are obtained. It is also established that the Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian is a quadratic function of a Dirac-type Hamiltonian.

On quantum algebra symmetries of discrete Schrödinger equations

Two non-standard quantum deformations of the (1+1) Schrödinger algebra are identified with the symmetry algebras of either a space or time uniform lattice discretization of the Schrödinger equation. For both cases, the deformation parameter of the corresponding Hopf algebra can be interpreted as the step of the lattice. In this context, the introduction of nonlinear maps defining Schrödinger and $sl(2,\R)$ quantum algebras with classical commutation rules turns out to be relevant. The problem of finding a quantum algebra linked to the full space-time discretization is also discussed.
