Approximate traveling waves for the focusing NLS with an external potential

We construct approximate traveling wave solutions for the $3d$ focusing cubic NLS perturbed by a rapidly decaying external potential. As an application, we demonstrate that there exists a forward-global, $H^1$ bounded, nonscattering solution at any mass-energy higher than the ground state threshold for the unperturbed equation.

Determination of radial nonlocal nonlinearities from the scattering map

We show that the small-data scattering map uniquely determines the nonlinearity for a class of nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations with radial, Hartree-type nonlinearities. Our assumptions on the convolution kernel require only a mild decay condition at infinity and permit a locally integrable singularity at the origin.

Threshold dynamics for the 4$d$ mass-energy double critical NLS

We consider the 4$d$ mass-energy double critical NLS \[ (i\partial_t+\Delta)u = -|u|^2 u + |u| u. \] In Luo (2024) and Cheng--Miao--Zhao (2016), the authors established a scattering/blowup dichotomy for solutions satisfying the energy constraint $E(u_0)< E^c(W)$, where $W$ is the energy-critical NLS ground state and $E^c$ is the energy for the underlying cubic NLS. We prove that the scattering/blowup dichotomy persists even at the energy threshold $E(u_0)=E^c(W)$.

Threshold solutions for the $3d$ cubic INLS: the energy-subcritical case

We revisit the work [L. Campos and J. Murphy, SIAM J. Math. Anal., 55 (2023), pp. 3807--3843], which classified the dynamics of $H^1$ solutions at the ground state threshold for cubic inhomogeneous nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations of the form $i\partial_t u + \Delta u + |x|^{-b}|u|^2 u = 0$ in the range $b\in(0,\tfrac12)$. By modifying the modulation analysis and using Strichartz estimates in place of pointwise bounds, we extend the result to the full energy-subcritical range $b\in(0,1)$. This strategy is expected to carry over to other dispersive equations with singular potentials.

Threshold solutions for the $3d$ cubic INLS: the energy-critical case

We study the energy-critical $3d$ cubic inhomogeneous NLS equation $i\partial_t u + \Delta u + |x|^{-1}|u|^2 u=0$. In this work, we prove the existence of special solutions $W^\pm$ with energy equal to that of the ground state $W$ and use these solutions to characterize the behavior of solutions at the ground state energy. The singular factor $|x|^{-1}$ in the nonlinearity significantly limits the smoothness of the ground state and prompts a novel approach to the modulation analysis.

Scattering for the $1d$ NLS with inhomogeneous nonlinearities

We prove large-data scattering in $H^1$ for inhomogeneous nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations in one space dimension for powers $p>2$. We assume the inhomogeneity is nonnegative and repulsive; we additionally require decay at infinity in the case $2<p\leq 4$. We use the method of concentration-compactness and contradiction, utilizing a Morawetz estimate in the style of Nakanishi in order to preclude the existence of compact solutions.

Dynamics of subcritical threshold solutions for the 4d energy-critical NLS

We study dynamics of the 4$d$ energy-critical nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation at the ground state energy. Previously, Duyckaerts and Merle [Geom. Funct. Anal. (2009)] proved that any radial solution with kinetic energy less than that of the ground state either scatters in both time directions or coincides (modulo symmetries) with a heteroclinic orbit, which scatters in one time direction and converges to the ground state in the other. We extend this result to the non-radial setting.

Stability of nonlinear recovery from scattering and modified scattering maps

We prove stability estimates for the recovery of the nonlinearity from the scattering or modified scattering map for one-dimensional nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations. We consider nonlinearities of the form $a(x) |u|^p u$ for $p\in [2,4]$ and $[1+a(x)]|u|^2 u$, where $a$ is a localized function. In the first case, we show that for $p\in(2,4]$ we may obtain a H\"older-type stability estimate for recovery via the scattering map, while for $p=2$ we obtain a logarithmic stability estimate. In the second case, we show a logarithmic stability estimate for recovery via the modified scattering map.

Large scale limit for a dispersion-managed NLS

We derive the standard power-type NLS as a scaling limit of the Gabitov--Turitsyn dispersion-managed NLS, using the $2d$ defocusing, cubic equation as a model case. In particular, we obtain global-in-time scattering solutions to the dispersion-managed NLS for large scale data of arbitrary $L^2$-norm.

Small and large data scattering for the dispersion-managed NLS

We prove several scattering results for dispersion-managed nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations. In particular, we establish small-data scattering for both `intercritical' and `mass-subcritical' powers by suitable modifications of the standard approach via Strichartz estimates. In addition, we prove scattering for arbitrary data in a weighted Sobolev space for intercritical powers by establishing a pseudoconformal energy estimate. We also rule out (unmodified) scattering for sufficiently low powers. Finally, we give some remarks concerning blowup for the focusing equation.

A note on averaging for the dispersion-managed NLS

We discuss averaging for dispersion-managed nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations in the fast dispersion management regime, with an application to the problem of constructing soliton-like solutions to dispersion-managed nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations.

Determination of Schr\"odinger nonlinearities from the scattering map

We prove that the small-data scattering map uniquely determines the nonlinearity for a wide class of gauge-invariant, intercritical nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations. We use the Born approximation to reduce the analysis to a deconvolution problem involving the distribution function for linear Schr\"odinger solutions. We then solve this deconvolution problem using the Beurling--Lax Theorem.

Transmission of fast solitons for the NLS with an external potential

We consider the dynamics of a boosted soliton evolving under the cubic NLS with an external potential. We show that for sufficiently large velocities, the soliton is effectively transmitted through the potential. This result extends work of Holmer, Marzuola, and Zworski, who considered the case of a delta potential with no bound states, and work of Datchev and Holmer, who considered the case of a delta potential with a linear bound state.

Threshold dynamics for the 3$d$ radial NLS with combined nonlinearity

We consider the nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation with focusing quintic and defocusing cubic nonlinearity in three space dimensions: \[ (i\partial_t+\Delta)u = |u|^2 u - |u|^4 u. \] In [18, 23], the authors classified the dynamics of solutions under the energy constraint $E(u)< E^c(W)$, where $W$ is the quintic NLS ground state and $E^c$ is the quintic NLS energy. In this work we classify the dynamics of $H^1$ solutions at the threshold $E(u)=E^c(W)$.
