Exact Small Time Equivalent for the density of the Circular Langevin Diffusion

A small time equivalent of the density is obtained for the circular analogue of the Langevin diffusion, which is strictly hypoelliptic (and non-Gaussian), hence of a different nature as the known sub-Riemannian case. The singular case, analogous to the case of conjugate points (the cut-locus problem) in the sub-Riemannian framework, is totally handled too, though much more difficultly.

Nonexplosion criteria for relativistic diffusions

Some general Lorentz covariant operators, associated to the so-called \Theta (or \Xi)-relativistic diffusions and making sense in any Lorentzian manifold, have been introduced by Franchi and Le Jan [Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 60 (2007) 187-251], Franchi and Le Jan [Curvature diffusions in general relativity (2010). Unpublished manuscript]. Only a few examples have been studied so far. We provide in this work some nonexplosion criteria for these diffusions, which can be used in generic cases.

Curvature Diffusions in General Relativity

We define and study on Lorentz manifolds a family of covariant diffusions in which the quadratic variation is locally determined by the curvature. This allows the interpretation of the diffusion effect on a particle by its interaction with the ambient space-time. We will focus on the case of warped products, especially Robertson-Walker manifolds, and analyse their asymptotic behaviour in the case of Einstein-de Sitter-like manifolds.

Central Limit Theorem for a Class of Relativistic Diffusions

Two similar Minkowskian diffusions have been considered, on one hand by Barbachoux, Debbasch, Malik and Rivet ([BDR1], [BDR2], [BDR3], [DMR], [DR]), and on the other hand by Dunkel and Hänggi ([DH1], [DH2]). We address here two questions, asked in [DR] and in ([DH1], [DH2]) respectively, about the asymptotic behaviour of such diffusions. More generally, we establish a central limit theorem for a class of Minkowskian diffusions, to which the two above ones belong. As a consequence, we correct a partially wrong guess in [DH1].

Relativistic Diffusion in Gödel's Universe

K. Gödel [G1] discovered his celebrated solution to Einstein equations in 1949. Additional contributions were made by Kundt [K] and Hawking-Ellis ([H-E],5.7). On the other hand, a general Lorentz invariant operator, associated to the so-called "relativistic diffusion'', and making sense in any Lorentz manifold, was introduced by Franchi-Le Jan in [F-LJ]. Here is purposed a first study of the relativistic diffusion in the framework of Gödel's universe, which contains matter.

Asymptotic homology of the quotient of $PSL_2(\BR)$ by a modular group

Consider $ G:= PSL_2(\R)\equiv T^1\H^2$, a modular group $ Γ$, and the homogeneous space $ Γ\sm G \equiv T^1(Γ\sm\H^2)$. Endow $ G $, and then $ Γ\sm G $, with a canonical left-invariant metric, thereby equipping it with a quasi hyperbolic geometry. Windings around handles and cusps of $ Γ\sm G $ are calculated by integrals of closed 1-forms of $ Γ\sm G $. The main results express, in both Brownian and geodesic cases, the joint convergence of the law of these integrals, with a stress on the asymptotic independence between slow and fast windings. The non-hyperbolicity of $ Γ\sm G $ is responsible for a difference between the Brownian and geodesic asymptotic behaviours, difference which does not exist at the level of the Riemann surface $Γ\sm\H^2$ (and generally in hyperbolic cases). Identification of the cohomology classes of closed 1-forms and with harmonic 1-forms, and equidistribution of large geodesic spheres, are also addressed.

Relativistic Diffusions and Schwarzschild Geometry

The purpose of this article is to introduce and study a relativistic motion whose acceleration, in proper time, is given by a white noise. We deal with general relativity, and consider more closely the problem of the asymptotic behaviour of paths in the Schwarzschild geometry example.

Relativistic Diffusions

The purpose of this note is to introduce and study a relativistic motion whose acceleration, in proper time, is given by a white noise. We begin with the flat case of special relativity, continue with the case of general relativity, and finally consider more closely the example of the Schwarzschild space.
