Aluthge transforms of unbounded weighted composition operators in $L^2$-spaces

We describe the Aluthge transform of an unbounded weighted composition operator acting in an $L^2$-space. We show that its closure is also a weighted composition operator with the same symbol and a modified weight function. We investigate its dense definiteness. We characterize $p$-hyponormality of unbounded weighted composition operators and provide results on how it is affected by the Aluthge transformation. We show that the only fixed points of the Aluthge transformation on weighted composition operators are quasinormal ones.

Aluthge transforms of weighted shifts on directed trees

Aluthge transform of a bounded operator is generalized to the case of unbounded one. A formula for the Aluthge transform of a weighted shift on a directed tree is established and it is used to construct an example of a hyponormal operator whose Aluthge transform has trivial domain. It is proven that such an example can be also constructed in the class of composition operators. It is also shown that Aluthge transform of a closed, densely defined operator is not necessarily closable.
