Gaussian fluctuation for Gaussian Wishart matrices of overall correlation

In this note, we study the Gaussian fluctuations for the Wishart matrices $d^{-1}\mathcal{X}_{n, d}\mathcal{X}^{T}_{n, d}$, where $\mathcal{X}_{n, d}$ is a $n\times d$ random matrix whose entries are jointly Gaussian and correlated with row and column covariance functions given by $r$ and $s$ respectively such that $r(0)=s(0)=1$. Under the assumptions $s\in \ell^{4/3}(\mathbb{Z})$ and $\|r\|_{\ell^1(\mathbb{Z})}< \sqrt{6}/2$, we establish the $\sqrt{n^3/d}$ convergence rate for the Wasserstein distance between a normalization of $d^{-1}\mathcal{X}_{n, d}\mathcal{X}^{T}_{n, d}$ and the corresponding Gaussian ensemble. This rate is the same as the optimal one computed in \cite{JL15,BG16,BDER16} for the total variation distance, in the particular case where the Gaussian entries of $\mathcal{X}_{n, d}$ are independent. Similarly, we obtain the $\sqrt{n^{2p-1}/d}$ convergence rate for the Wasserstein distance in the setting of random $p$-tensors of overall correlation. Our analysis is based on the Malliavin-Stein approach.

Multivariate normal approximation on the Wiener space: new bounds in the convex distance

We establish explicit bounds on the convex distance between the distribution of a vector of smooth functionals of a Gaussian field, and that of a normal vector with a positive definite covariance matrix. Our bounds are commensurate to the ones obtained by Nourdin, Peccati and Réveillac (2010) for the (smoother) 1-Wasserstein distance, and do not involve any additional logarithmic factor. One of the main tools exploited in our work is a recursive estimate on the convex distance recently obtained by Schulte and Yukich (2019). We illustrate our abstract results in two different situations: (i) we prove a quantitative multivariate fourth moment theorem for vectors of multiple Wiener-Itô integrals, and (ii) we characterise the rate of convergence for the finite-dimensional distributions in the functional Breuer-Major theorem.

Berry-Esseen bounds of second moment estimators for Gaussian processes observed at high frequency

Let $Z:=\{Z_t,t\geq0\}$ be a stationary Gaussian process. We study two estimators of $\mathbb{E}[Z_0^2]$, namely $\widehat{f}_T(Z):= \frac{1}{T} \int_{0}^{T} Z_{t}^{2}dt$, and $\widetilde{f}_n(Z) :=\frac{1}{n} \sum_{i =1}^{n} Z_{t_{i}}^{2}$, where $ t_{i} = i Δ_{n}$, $ i=0,1,\ldots, n $, $Δ_{n}\rightarrow 0$ and $ T_{n} := n Δ_{n}\rightarrow \infty$. We prove that the two estimators are strongly consistent and establish Berry-Esseen bounds for a central limit theorem involving $\widehat{f}_T(Z)$ and $\widetilde{f}_n(Z)$. We apply these results to asymptotically stationary Gaussian processes and estimate the drift parameter for Gaussian Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes.

Limit theorems for integral functionals of Hermite-driven processes

Consider a moving average process $X$ of the form $X(t)=\int_{-\infty}^t x(t-u)dZ_u$, $t\geq 0$, where $Z$ is a (non Gaussian) Hermite process of order $q\geq 2$ and $x:\mathbb{R}_+\to\mathbb{R}$ is sufficiently integrable. This paper investigates the fluctuations, as $T\to\infty$, of integral functionals of the form $t\mapsto \int_0^{Tt }P(X(s))ds$, in the case where $P$ is any given polynomial function. It extends a study initiated in Tran (2018), where only the quadratic case $P(x)=x^2$ and the convergence in the sense of finite-dimensional distributions were considered.

Small Scale CLTs for the Nodal Length of Monochromatic Waves

We consider the nodal length $L(λ)$ of the restriction to a ball of radius $r_λ$ of a {\it Gaussian pullback monochromatic random wave} of parameter $λ>0$ associated with a Riemann surface $(\mathcal M,g)$ without conjugate points. Our main result is that, if $r_λ$ grows slower than $(\log λ)^{1/25}$, then (as $λ\to \infty$) the length $L(λ)$ verifies a Central Limit Theorem with the same scaling as Berry's random wave model -- as established in Nourdin, Peccati and Rossi (2019). Taking advantage of some powerful extensions of an estimate by Bérard (1986) due to Keeler (2019), our techniques are mainly based on a novel intrinsic bound on the coupling of smooth Gaussian fields, that is of independent interest, and moreover allow us to improve some estimates for the nodal length asymptotic variance of pullback random waves in Canzani and Hanin (2016). In order to demonstrate the flexibility of our approach, we also provide an application to phase transitions for the nodal length of arithmetic random waves on shrinking balls of the $2$-torus.

Local times and sample path properties of the Rosenblatt process

Let $Z = (Z_t)_{t \geq 0}$ be the Rosenblatt process with Hurst index $H \in (1/2, 1)$. We prove joint continuity for the local time of $Z$, and establish Hölder conditions for the local time. These results are then used to study the irregularity of the sample paths of $Z$. Based on analogy with similar known results in the case of fractional Brownian motion, we believe our results are sharp. A main ingredient of our proof is a rather delicate spectral analysis of arbitrary linear combinations of integral operators, which arise from the representation of the Rosenblatt process as an element in the second chaos.

Freeness characterizations on free chaos spaces

This paper deals with characterizing the freeness and asymptotic freeness of free multiple integrals with respect to a free Brownian motion or a free Poisson process. We obtain three characterizations of freeness, in terms of contraction operators, covariance conditions, and free Malliavin gradients. We show how these characterizations can be used in order to obtain limit theorems, transfer principles, and asymptotic properties of converging sequences.

The Breuer-Major Theorem in total variation: improved rates under minimal regularity

In this paper we prove an estimate for the total variation distance, in the framework of the Breuer-Major theorem, using the Malliavin-Stein method, assuming the underlying function $g$ to be once weakly differentiable with $g$ and $g'$ having finite moments of order four with respect to the standard Gaussian density. This result is proved by a combination of Gebelein's inequality and some novel estimates involving Malliavin operators.

Berry-Esseen bounds in the Breuer-Major CLT and Gebelein's inequality

We derive explicit Berry-Esseen bounds in the total variation distance for the Breuer-Major central limit theorem, in the case of a subordinating function $φ$ satisfying minimal regularity assumptions. Our approach is based on the combination of the Malliavin-Stein approach for normal approximations with Gebelein's inequality, bounding the covariance of functionals of Gaussian fields in terms of maximal correlation coefficients.

Restricted hypercontractivity on the Poisson space

We show that the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup associated with a general Poisson random measure is hypercontractive, whenever it is restricted to non-increasing mappings on configuration spaces. We deduce from this result some versions of Talagrand's $L^1$-$L^2$ inequality for increasing and concave mappings, and we build examples showing that such an estimate represents a strict improvement of the classical Poincaré inequality. We complement our finding with several results of independent interest, such as gradient estimates.

Non-integrable stable approximation by Stein's method

We develop Stein's method for $α$-stable approximation with $α\in(0,1]$, continuing the recent line of research by Xu \cite{lihu} and Chen, Nourdin and Xu \cite{C-N-X} in the case $α\in(1,2).$ The main results include an intrinsic upper bound for the error of the approximation in a variant of Wasserstein distance that involves the characterizing differential operators for stable distributions, and an application to the generalized central limit theorem. Due to the lack of first moment for the approximating sequence in the latter result, we appeal to an additional truncation procedure and investigate fine regularity properties of the solution to Stein's equation.

Approximation of Fractional Local Times: Zero Energy and Derivatives

We consider empirical processes associated with high-frequency observations of a fractional Brownian motion (fBm) $X$ with Hurst parameter $H\in (0,1)$, and derive conditions under which these processes verify a (possibly uniform) law of large numbers, as well as a second order (possibly uniform) limit theorem. We devote specific emphasis to the `zero energy' case, corresponding to a kernel whose integral on the real line equals zero. Our asymptotic results are associated with explicit rates of convergence, and are expressed either in terms of the local time of $X$ or of its \blue{derivatives}: in particular, the full force of our finding applies to the `rough range' $0< H < 1/3$, on which the previous literature has been mostly silent. The {\color{black}use of the derivatives} of local times for studying the fluctuations of high-frequency observations of a fBm is new, and is the main technological breakthrough of the present paper. Our results are based on the use of Malliavin calculus and Fourier analysis, and extend and complete several findings in the literature, e.g. by Jeganathan (2004, 2006, 2008) and Podolskij and Rosenbaum (2018).

Concentration of the Intrinsic Volumes of a Convex Body

The intrinsic volumes are measures of the content of a convex body. This paper uses probabilistic and information-theoretic methods to study the sequence of intrinsic volumes of a convex body. The main result states that the intrinsic volume sequence concentrates sharply around a specific index, called the central intrinsic volume. Furthermore, among all convex bodies whose central intrinsic volume is fixed, an appropriately scaled cube has the intrinsic volume sequence with maximum entropy.

Almost sure limit theorems on Wiener chaos: the non-central case

In \cite{BNT}, a framework to prove almost sure central limit theorems for sequences $(G_n)$ belonging to the Wiener space was developed, with a particular emphasis of the case where $G_n$ takes the form of a multiple Wiener-Itô integral with respect to a given isonormal Gaussian process. In the present paper, we complement the study initiated in \cite{BNT}, by considering the more general situation where the sequence $(G_n)$ may not need to converge to a Gaussian distribution. As an application, we prove that partial sums of Hermite polynomials of increments of fractional Brownian motion satisfy an almost sure limit theorem in the long-range dependence case, a problem left open in \cite{BNT}.

Statistical inference for Vasicek-type model driven by Hermite processes

Let $Z$ denote a Hermite process of order $q \geq 1$ and self-similarity parameter $H \in (\frac{1}{2}, 1)$. This process is $H$-self-similar, has stationary increments and exhibits long-range dependence. When $q=1$, it corresponds to the fractional Brownian motion, whereas it is not Gaussian as soon as $q\geq 2$. In this paper, we deal with a Vasicek-type model driven by $Z$, of the form $dX_t = a(b - X_t)dt +dZ_t$. Here, $a > 0$ and $b \in \mathbb{R}$ are considered as unknown drift parameters. We provide estimators for $a$ and $b$ based on continuous-time observations. For all possible values of $H$ and $q$, we prove strong consistency and we analyze the asymptotic fluctuations.

Stein's method for asymmetric $α$-stable distributions, with application to the stable CLT

This paper is concerned with the Stein's method associated with a (possibly) asymmetric $α$-stable distribution $Z$, in dimension one. More precisely, its goal is twofold. In the first part, we exhibit a genuine bound for the Wasserstein distance between $Z$ and any integrable random variable $X$, in terms of an operator that reduces to the classical fractional Laplacian in the symmetric case. Then, in the second part we apply the aforementioned bound to compute error rates in the stable central limit theorem, when the entries are in the domain $\mathcal{D}_α$ of normal attraction of a stable law of exponent $α$. To conclude, we study the specific case where the entries are Pareto like multiplied by a slowly varying function, which provides an example of random variables that do not belong to $\mathcal{D}_α$, but for which our approach continues to apply.

The functional Breuer-Major theorem

Let $X=\{ X_n\}_{n\in \mathbb{Z}}$ be zero-mean stationary Gaussian sequence of random variables with covariance function $ρ$ satisfying $ρ(0)=1$. Let $φ:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}$ be a function such that $E[φ(X_0)^2]<\infty$ and assume that $φ$ has Hermite rank $d \geq 1$. The celebrated Breuer-Major theorem asserts that, if $\sum_{r\in\mathbb{Z}} |ρ(r)|^d<\infty$ then the finite dimensional distributions of $\frac1{\sqrt{n}}\sum_{i=0}^{\lfloor n\cdot\rfloor-1} φ(X_i)$ converge to those of $σ\,W$, where $W$ is a standard Brownian motion and $σ$ is some (explicit) constant. Surprisingly, and despite the fact this theorem has become over the years a prominent tool in a bunch of different areas, a necessary and sufficient condition implying the weak convergence in the space ${\bf D}([0,1])$ of càdlàg functions endowed with the Skorohod topology is still missing. Our main goal in this paper is to fill this gap. More precisely, by using suitable boundedness properties satisfied by the generator of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup, we show that tightness holds under the sufficient (and almost necessary) natural condition that $E[|φ(X_0)|^{p}]<\infty$ for some $p>2$.
