Improved Regge Kinematics and All-Path-Length Corrections to Momentum Broadening in the Quark-Gluon Plasma

We present a study of transverse momentum broadening for high-energy partons propagating through the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), extending the Gyulassy-Levai-Vitev (GLV) formalism to include both all-path-length (APL) corrections and improved sub-Regge kinematics. The standard GLV framework relies on the large separation distance and large formation time approximations, which are well justified in large nuclei but may become unreliable in small collision systems, where the relevant length and coherence scales are comparable. Working to first order in the opacity expansion, we derive analytic expressions for the transverse momentum broadening distribution and the corresponding momentum transport coefficient, $\hat{q}$, while systematically relaxing these approximations. The APL correction arises from relaxing the large separation distance approximation, whereas the sub-Regge and combined sub-Regge-APL corrections are obtained using an improved set of Regge kinematics beyond the strict Regge limit. We find that these corrections can substantially modify both the transverse momentum broadening distribution and the momentum transport coefficient, particularly for short path lengths and high exchanged momentum, providing a more complete theoretical description of momentum broadening in the QGP.

Gluon radiation from a classical point particle: Recoil effects

We propose a formula for gluon radiation in the fragmentation region. By comparing tree-level bremsstrahlung of a spin-less quark to the known result for gluon radiation from a classical particle struck by a sheet of colored glass arXiv:1903.01381, arXiv:1911.12738 we modify the classical formula to take into account the recoil of the struck particle. The new formula produces the correct perturbative behaviour at high momentum of the radiated gluon.

Short path length pQCD corrections to energy loss in the quark gluon plasma

Recent surprising discoveries of collective behaviour of low-$p_T$ particles in $pA$ collisions at LHC hint at the creation of a hot, fluid-like QGP medium. The seemingly conflicting measurements of non-zero particle correlations and $R_{pA}$ that appears to be consistent with unity demand a more careful analysis of the mechanisms at work in such ostensibly minuscule systems. We study the way in which energy is dissipated in the QGP created in $pA$ collisions by calculating, in pQCD, the short separation distance corrections to the well-known DGLV energy loss formulae that have produced excellent predictions for $AA$ collisions. We find that, shockingly, due to the large formation time (compared to the $1/μ$ Debye screening length) assumption that was used in the original DGLV calculation, a highly non-trivial cancellation of correction terms results in a null short path length correction to the DGLV energy loss formula. We investigate the effect of relaxing the large formation time assumption in the final stages of the calculation -- doing so throughout the calculation adds immense calculational complexity -- and find, since the separation distance between production and scattering centre is integrated over from $0$ to $\infty$, $\gtrsim 100\%$ corrections, even in the large path length approximation employed by DGLV.
