Electroexcitation of nucleon resonances of the [70,1-] multiplet in a light-front relativistic quark model

We utilize a light-front relativistic quark model to predict the 3q core contribution to the electroexcitation of nucleon resonances of the [70,1-] multiplet on the proton and neutron at Q2 < 5GeV2. The investigation is stimulated in large degree by expected progress in the studies of the electroexcitation of nucleon resonances in the third resonance region in the CLAS experiment. For the resonances N(1520)3/2-, N(1535)1/2-, and N(1675)5/2-, experimental data on electroexcitation amplitudes on the proton are available in a wide range of Q2. This allowed us to quantify the expected meson-baryon contributions to these amplitudes as a function of Q2.

Recent results on the nucleon resonance spectrum and structure from the CLAS detector

The CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab has provided the dominant part of all available worldwide data on exclusive meson electroproduction off protons in the resonance region. New results on the $\gamma_{v}pN^*$ transition amplitudes (electrocouplings) are available from analyses of the CLAS data and will be presented. Their impact on understanding of hadron structure will be discussed emphasizing the credible access to the dressed quark mass function that has been achieved for the first time by a combined analysis of the experimental results on the electromagnetic nucleon elastic and $N \rightarrow N^*$ transition form factors. We will also discuss further convincing evidences for a new baryon state $N^{\, '}(1720)3/2^+$ found in a combined analysis of charged double pion photo- and electroproduction cross sections off the protons.

Studies of N^* structure from the CLAS meson electroproduction data

The transition \gamma_{v}pN^* amplitudes (electrocouplings) for prominent excited nucleon states obtained in a wide area of photon virtualities offer valuable information for the exploration of the N^* structure at different distances and allow us to access the complex dynamics of non-perturbative strong interaction. The current status in the studies of \gamma_{v}pN^* electrocouplings from the data on exclusive meson electroproduction off protons measured with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab is presented. The impact of these results on exploration of the N^* structure is discussed.

Electroexcitation of the Roper resonance from CLAS data

The helicity amplitudes of the electroexcitation of the Roper resonance on proton are extracted at 1.7 < Q2 < 4.2 GeV2 from recent high precision JLab-CLAS cross sections data and longitudinally polarized beam asymmetry for pi+ electroproduction on protons. The analysis is made using two approaches, dispersion relations and unitary isobar model, which give consistent results. It is found that the transverse helicity amplitude for the gamma* p --> P11(1440) transition, which is large and negative at Q2=0, becomes large and positive at Q2 ~ 2 GeV2, and then drops slowly with Q2. Longitudinal helicity amplitude, that was previously found from CLAS data as large and positive at Q2=0.4,0.65 GeV2, drops with Q2. These results rule out the presentation of P11(1440) as a 3qG hybrid state, and provide strong evidence in favor of this resonance as a first radial excitation of the 3q ground state.
