Full-permutation dynamical decoupling in triple-quantum-dot spin qubits

Dynamical decoupling of spin qubits in silicon can enhance fidelity and be used to extract the frequency spectra of noise processes. We demonstrate a full-permutation dynamical decoupling technique that cyclically exchanges the spins in a triple-dot qubit. This sequence not only suppresses both low frequency charge-noise- and magnetic-noise-induced errors; it also refocuses leakage errors to first order, which is particularly interesting for encoded exchange-only qubits. For a specific construction, which we call NZ1y, the qubit is isolated from error sources to such a degree that we measure a remarkable exchange pulse error of $5\times10^{-5}$. This sequence maintains a quantum state for roughly 18,000 exchange pulses, extending the qubit coherence from $T_2^*=2~μ$s to $T_2 = 720~μ$s. We experimentally validate an error model that includes $1/f$ charge noise and $1/f$ magnetic noise in two ways: by direct exchange-qubit simulation, and by integration of the assumed noise spectra with derived filter functions, both of which reproduce the measured error and leakage with respect to changing the repetition rate.

Solving the Families In the Wild Kinship Verification Challenge by Program Synthesis

Kinship verification is the task of determining whether a parent-child, sibling, or grandparent-grandchild relationship exists between two people and is important in social media applications, forensic investigations, finding missing children, and reuniting families. We demonstrate high quality kinship verification by participating in the 2021 Recognizing Families in the Wild challenge which provides the largest publicly available dataset in the field. Our approach is among the top 3 winning entries in the competition. We ensemble models written by both human experts and a foundation model, OpenAI Codex, trained on text and code. We use Codex to generate model variants, and also demonstrate its ability to generate entire running programs for kinship verification tasks of specific relationships.

Parameter dependence of high-frequency nonlinear oscillations and intrinsic chaos in short GaAs/(Al,Ga)As superlattices

We explore the design parameter space of short (5--25 period), n-doped, Ga/(Al,Ga)As semiconductor superlattices (SSLs) in the sequential resonant tunneling regime. We consider SSLs at cool (77K) and warm (295K) temperatures, simulating the electronic response to variations in (a) the number of SSL periods, (b) the contact conductivity, and (c) the strength of disorder (aperiodicities). Our analysis shows that the chaotic dynamical phases exist on a number of sub-manifolds of codimension zero within the design parameter space. This result provides an encouraging guide towards the experimental observation of high-frequency intrinsic dynamical chaos in shorter SSLs.
