Discovering Flow Separation Control Strategies in 3D Wings via Deep Reinforcement Learning

In this work, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) is applied to active flow control (AFC) over a threedimensional SD7003 wing at a Reynolds number of Re = 60,000 and angle of attack of AoA = 14 degrees. In the uncontrolled baseline case, the flow exhibits massive separation and a fully turbulent wake. Using a GPU-accelerated CFD solver and multi-agent training, DRL discovers control strategies that enhance lift (79%), reduce drag (65%), and improve aerodynamic efficiency (408%). Flow visualizations confirm reattachment of the separated shear layer, demonstrating the potential of DRL for complex and turbulent flows.

Deep Reinforcement Learning for Active Flow Control around a Three-Dimensional Flow-Separated Wing at Re = 1,000

This study explores the use of deep reinforcement learning (DRL) for active flow control (AFC) to reduce flow separation on wings at high angles of attack. Concretely, here the DRL agent controls the flow over the three-dimensional NACA0012 wing section at the Reynolds number Re = 1,000 and angle of attack AoA = 20 degrees, autonomously identifying optimal control actions through real-time flow data and a reward function focused on improving aerodynamic performance. The framework integrates the GPU-accelerated computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver SOD2D with the TF-Agents DRL library via a Redis in-memory database, enabling rapid training. This work builds on previous DRL flow-control studies, demonstrating DRL potential to address complex aerodynamic challenges and push the boundaries of traditional AFC methods.

Leveraging Metaphors in a VR Serious Game for Computational Thinking

This paper presents Cooking Code, a VR-based serious game designed to introduce programming concepts to students (ages 12-16) through an immersive, scenario-driven experience. Set in a futuristic world where humans and machines coexist, players take on the role of a fast-food chef who must assemble food orders based on pseudocode instructions. By interpreting and executing these instructions correctly, players develop problem-solving skills, computational thinking, and a foundational understanding of programming logic. The game leverages the kitchen metaphor to teach computational thinking, using affordances for an immersive VR experience.

Hard Photodisintegration of a Proton Pair

We present a study of high energy photodisintegration of proton-pairs through the gamma + 3He -> p+p+n channel. Photon energies from 0.8 to 4.7 GeV were used in kinematics corresponding to a proton pair with high relative momentum and a neutron nearly at rest. The s-11 scaling of the cross section, as predicted by the constituent counting rule for two nucleon photodisintegration, was observed for the first time. The onset of the scaling is at a higher energy and the cross section is significantly lower than for deuteron (pn pair) photodisintegration. For photon energies below the scaling region, the scaled cross section was found to present a strong energy-dependent structure not observed in deuteron photodisintegration.

Formation of Embedded Microstructures by Thermal Activated Solvent Bonding

We present a thermal activated solvent bonding technique for the formation of embedded microstrucutres in polymer. It is based on the temperature dependent solubility of polymer in a liquid that is not a solvent at room temperature. With thermal activation, the liquid is transformed into a solvent of the polymer, creating a bonding capability through segmental or chain interdiffusion at the bonding interface. The technique has advantages over the more commonly used thermal bonding due to its much lower operation temperature (30 degrees C lower than the material's Tg), lower load, as well as shorter time. Lap shear test indicated bonding shear strength of up to 2.9 MPa. Leak test based on the bubble emission technique showed that the bonded microfluidic device can withstand at least 6 bars (87 psi) of internal pressure (gauge) in the microchannel. This technique can be applied to other systems of polymer and solvent.

$τ$ Anomalous Couplings and Radiation Zeros in the $e^+e^- \to τ\barτγ$ process

The process $e^+e^- \to τ\barτγ$ contains configurations of the four-momenta for which the scattering amplitude vanishes (Radiation Zeros or Null Zone). These Radiation Zeros only occur for couplings given by a gauge theory, in particular the standard model. Therefore they are sensitive to physics beyond the standard model as the anomalous magnetic and weak moment of the $τ$ lepton. In this article we compute the effect of these anomalous interactions on the Radiation Zeros in the above mentioned process.
