Step-Video-TI2V Technical Report: A State-of-the-Art Text-Driven Image-to-Video Generation Model

We present Step-Video-TI2V, a state-of-the-art text-driven image-to-video generation model with 30B parameters, capable of generating videos up to 102 frames based on both text and image inputs. We build Step-Video-TI2V-Eval as a new benchmark for the text-driven image-to-video task and compare Step-Video-TI2V with open-source and commercial TI2V engines using this dataset. Experimental results demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of Step-Video-TI2V in the image-to-video generation task. Both Step-Video-TI2V and Step-Video-TI2V-Eval are available at https://github.com/stepfun-ai/Step-Video-TI2V.

Step-Video-T2V Technical Report: The Practice, Challenges, and Future of Video Foundation Model

We present Step-Video-T2V, a state-of-the-art text-to-video pre-trained model with 30B parameters and the ability to generate videos up to 204 frames in length. A deep compression Variational Autoencoder, Video-VAE, is designed for video generation tasks, achieving 16x16 spatial and 8x temporal compression ratios, while maintaining exceptional video reconstruction quality. User prompts are encoded using two bilingual text encoders to handle both English and Chinese. A DiT with 3D full attention is trained using Flow Matching and is employed to denoise input noise into latent frames. A video-based DPO approach, Video-DPO, is applied to reduce artifacts and improve the visual quality of the generated videos. We also detail our training strategies and share key observations and insights. Step-Video-T2V's performance is evaluated on a novel video generation benchmark, Step-Video-T2V-Eval, demonstrating its state-of-the-art text-to-video quality when compared with both open-source and commercial engines. Additionally, we discuss the limitations of current diffusion-based model paradigm and outline future directions for video foundation models. We make both Step-Video-T2V and Step-Video-T2V-Eval available at https://github.com/stepfun-ai/Step-Video-T2V. The online version can be accessed from https://yuewen.cn/videos as well. Our goal is to accelerate the innovation of video foundation models and empower video content creators.

XNN: Paradigm Shift in Mitigating Identity Leakage within Cloud-Enabled Deep Learning

In the domain of cloud-based deep learning, the imperative for external computational resources coexists with acute privacy concerns, particularly identity leakage. To address this challenge, we introduce XNN and XNN-d, pioneering methodologies that infuse neural network features with randomized perturbations, striking a harmonious balance between utility and privacy. XNN, designed for the training phase, ingeniously blends random permutation with matrix multiplication techniques to obfuscate feature maps, effectively shielding private data from potential breaches without compromising training integrity. Concurrently, XNN-d, devised for the inference phase, employs adversarial training to integrate generative adversarial noise. This technique effectively counters black-box access attacks aimed at identity extraction, while a distilled face recognition network adeptly processes the perturbed features, ensuring accurate identification. Our evaluation demonstrates XNN's effectiveness, significantly outperforming existing methods in reducing identity leakage while maintaining a high model accuracy.

Mask-ControlNet: Higher-Quality Image Generation with An Additional Mask Prompt

Text-to-image generation has witnessed great progress, especially with the recent advancements in diffusion models. Since texts cannot provide detailed conditions like object appearance, reference images are usually leveraged for the control of objects in the generated images. However, existing methods still suffer limited accuracy when the relationship between the foreground and background is complicated. To address this issue, we develop a framework termed Mask-ControlNet by introducing an additional mask prompt. Specifically, we first employ large vision models to obtain masks to segment the objects of interest in the reference image. Then, the object images are employed as additional prompts to facilitate the diffusion model to better understand the relationship between foreground and background regions during image generation. Experiments show that the mask prompts enhance the controllability of the diffusion model to maintain higher fidelity to the reference image while achieving better image quality. Comparison with previous text-to-image generation methods demonstrates our method's superior quantitative and qualitative performance on the benchmark datasets.

DetailCLIP: Injecting Image Details into CLIP's Feature Space

Although CLIP-like Visual Language Models provide a functional joint feature space for image and text, due to the limitation of the CILP-like model's image input size (e.g., 224), subtle details are lost in the feature representation if we input high-resolution images (e.g., 2240). Our proposed framework addresses this issue by generating a single feature representation for a high-resolution image that retains image details from different scales while sharing the same semantic space as the original CLIP. An application scenario is remote sensing text-image retrieval, where targets (e.g., vehicles and ships) often appear at tiny scales. To achieve this, we develop a feature fusion model that relies on CLIP features extracted from a carefully designed image patch method, dubbed Complete Cover. This method ensures comprehensive coverage of objects across various scales and is weakly supervised by image-agnostic class prompted queries. We evaluate our framework's performance using real-world and synthetic datasets, demonstrating significant improvements in image retrieval tasks based on class prompted queries. To further showcase our framework's capability in detail retrieval, we introduce a CLEVR-like synthetic dataset, named CLVER-DS. This fully annotated dataset offers a controllable object scale, allowing for a more thorough examination of our approach's effectiveness. Our code is publicly available at https://github.com/zilunzhang/DetailCLIP

Quantum carpets from Gaussian sum theory

In many closed quantum systems, an interesting phenomenon, called quantum carpet, can be observed, where the evolution of wave function exhibits a carpet-like pattern. The mechanism of quantum carpet is similar to the classical interference pattern of light. Although the origin of quantum carpets has been studied previously, there are still many interesting details worth exploring. Here, we presented a unified framework for a simultaneous analyzing on three features of quantum carpets, namely full revival, fractional revival and diagonal canal. For fractional revival, a complete formula is presented to explain its generation through "Gaussian sum theory", in which all the essential features, including the phases and amplitudes, of this phenomenon could be captured analytically. Moreover, we also revealed the relations between the interference terms of the diagonal canals and their geometric interpretations, providing a better understanding in the formation of diagonal canals.

Applications of deep learning to relativistic hydrodynamics

In this proceeding, we will briefly review our recent progress on implementing deep learning to relativistic hydrodynamics. We will demonstrate that a successfully designed and trained deep neural network, called {\tt stacked U-net}, can capture the main features of the non-linear evolution of hydrodynamics, which could also rapidly predict the final profiles for various testing initial conditions.
