Association between a Failed Prominence Eruption and the Drainage of Mass from Another Prominence

Sympathetic eruptions of solar prominences have been studied for decades, however, it is usually difficult to identify their causal links. Here we present two failed prominence eruptions on 26 October 2022 and explore their connections. Using stereoscopic observations, the south prominence (PRO-S) erupts with untwisting motions, flare ribbons occur underneath, and new connections are formed during the eruption. The north prominence (PRO-N) rises up along with PRO-S, and its upper part disappears due to catastrophic mass draining along an elongated structure after PRO-S failed eruption. We suggest that the eruption of PRO-S initiates due to a kink instability, further rises up, and fails to erupt due to reconnection with surrounding fields. The elongated structure connecting PRO-N overlies PRO-S, which causes the rising up of PRO-N along with PRO-S and mass drainage after PRO-S eruption. This study suggests that a prominence may end its life through mass drainage forced by an eruption underneath.

DeepSeek-V2: A Strong, Economical, and Efficient Mixture-of-Experts Language Model

We present DeepSeek-V2, a strong Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) language model characterized by economical training and efficient inference. It comprises 236B total parameters, of which 21B are activated for each token, and supports a context length of 128K tokens. DeepSeek-V2 adopts innovative architectures including Multi-head Latent Attention (MLA) and DeepSeekMoE. MLA guarantees efficient inference through significantly compressing the Key-Value (KV) cache into a latent vector, while DeepSeekMoE enables training strong models at an economical cost through sparse computation. Compared with DeepSeek 67B, DeepSeek-V2 achieves significantly stronger performance, and meanwhile saves 42.5% of training costs, reduces the KV cache by 93.3%, and boosts the maximum generation throughput to 5.76 times. We pretrain DeepSeek-V2 on a high-quality and multi-source corpus consisting of 8.1T tokens, and further perform Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) to fully unlock its potential. Evaluation results show that, even with only 21B activated parameters, DeepSeek-V2 and its chat versions still achieve top-tier performance among open-source models.

Parameter effects on the total intensity of H I Lyα line for a modelled coronal mass ejection and its driven shock

The combination of the H I Lyα (121.6 nm) line formation mechanism with ultraviolet (UV) Lyα and white-light (WL) observations provides an effective method for determining the electron temperature of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). A key to ensuring the accuracy of this diagnostic technique is the precise calculation of theoretical Lyα intensities. This study performs a modelled CME and its driven shock via the 3D MHD simulation. We generate synthetic UV and WL images of the CME and shock to quantify the impact of different assumptions on theoretical Lyα intensities, such as the incident intensity of the Lyα line (Idisk), the geometric scattering function (p(θ)), and the kinetic temperature (Tn) assumed to be equal to the proton (Tp) or electron (Te) temperatures. By comparing differences of the Lyα intensities under these assumptions, we find that: (1) Using the uniform or Carrington maps of the disk Lyα emission underestimates the corona Lyα intensity (< 10%) compared to the synchronic map, except for a slight overestimate (< 4%) in the partial CME core. The Carrington map yields lower uncertainties than the uniform disk. (2) The geometric scattering process has a minor impact on the Lyα intensity, with a maximum relative uncertainty of < 5%. The Lyα intensity is underestimated for the most part but overestimated in the CME core. (3) Compared to the assumption Tn = Tp, using Tn = Te leads to more complex relative uncertainties in CME Lyα intensity. The CME core and void are both overestimated, with the maximum uncertainty in the core exceeding 50% and the void remaining below 35%. In the CME front, both over- and under-estimates exist with relative uncertainties of < 35%. The electron temperature assumption has a smaller impact on the shock, with an underestimated relative uncertainty of less than 20%.

Hallo: Hierarchical Audio-Driven Visual Synthesis for Portrait Image Animation

The field of portrait image animation, driven by speech audio input, has experienced significant advancements in the generation of realistic and dynamic portraits. This research delves into the complexities of synchronizing facial movements and creating visually appealing, temporally consistent animations within the framework of diffusion-based methodologies. Moving away from traditional paradigms that rely on parametric models for intermediate facial representations, our innovative approach embraces the end-to-end diffusion paradigm and introduces a hierarchical audio-driven visual synthesis module to enhance the precision of alignment between audio inputs and visual outputs, encompassing lip, expression, and pose motion. Our proposed network architecture seamlessly integrates diffusion-based generative models, a UNet-based denoiser, temporal alignment techniques, and a reference network. The proposed hierarchical audio-driven visual synthesis offers adaptive control over expression and pose diversity, enabling more effective personalization tailored to different identities. Through a comprehensive evaluation that incorporates both qualitative and quantitative analyses, our approach demonstrates obvious enhancements in image and video quality, lip synchronization precision, and motion diversity. CrossFuse: A Novel Cross Attention Mechanism based Infrared and Visible Image Fusion Approach

Multimodal visual information fusion aims to integrate the multi-sensor data into a single image which contains more complementary information and less redundant features. However the complementary information is hard to extract, especially for infrared and visible images which contain big similarity gap between these two modalities. The common cross attention modules only consider the correlation, on the contrary, image fusion tasks need focus on complementarity (uncorrelation). Hence, in this paper, a novel cross attention mechanism (CAM) is proposed to enhance the complementary information. Furthermore, a two-stage training strategy based fusion scheme is presented to generate the fused images. For the first stage, two auto-encoder networks with same architecture are trained for each modality. Then, with the fixed encoders, the CAM and a decoder are trained in the second stage. With the trained CAM, features extracted from two modalities are integrated into one fused feature in which the complementary information is enhanced and the redundant features are reduced. Finally, the fused image can be generated by the trained decoder. The experimental results illustrate that our proposed fusion method obtains the SOTA fusion performance compared with the existing fusion networks. CoMoFusion: Fast and High-quality Fusion of Infrared and Visible Image with Consistency Model

Generative models are widely utilized to model the distribution of fused images in the field of infrared and visible image fusion. However, current generative models based fusion methods often suffer from unstable training and slow inference speed. To tackle this problem, a novel fusion method based on consistency model is proposed, termed as CoMoFusion, which can generate the high-quality images and achieve fast image inference speed. In specific, the consistency model is used to construct multi-modal joint features in the latent space with the forward and reverse process. Then, the infrared and visible features extracted by the trained consistency model are fed into fusion module to generate the final fused image. In order to enhance the texture and salient information of fused images, a novel loss based on pixel value selection is also designed. Extensive experiments on public datasets illustrate that our method obtains the SOTA fusion performance compared with the existing fusion methods.

Seed-TTS: A Family of High-Quality Versatile Speech Generation Models

We introduce Seed-TTS, a family of large-scale autoregressive text-to-speech (TTS) models capable of generating speech that is virtually indistinguishable from human speech. Seed-TTS serves as a foundation model for speech generation and excels in speech in-context learning, achieving performance in speaker similarity and naturalness that matches ground truth human speech in both objective and subjective evaluations. With fine-tuning, we achieve even higher subjective scores across these metrics. Seed-TTS offers superior controllability over various speech attributes such as emotion and is capable of generating highly expressive and diverse speech for speakers in the wild. Furthermore, we propose a self-distillation method for speech factorization, as well as a reinforcement learning approach to enhance model robustness, speaker similarity, and controllability. We additionally present a non-autoregressive (NAR) variant of the Seed-TTS model, named $\text{Seed-TTS}_\text{DiT}$, which utilizes a fully diffusion-based architecture. Unlike previous NAR-based TTS systems, $\text{Seed-TTS}_\text{DiT}$ does not depend on pre-estimated phoneme durations and performs speech generation through end-to-end processing. We demonstrate that this variant achieves comparable performance to the language model-based variant and showcase its effectiveness in speech editing. We encourage readers to listen to demos at \url{https://bytedancespeech.github.io/seedtts_tech_report}.

Large Scale Linear Magnetic Holes with Magnetic Mirror Properties in Hybrid Simulations of Solar Wind Turbulence

Magnetic holes (MHs) are coherent magnetic field dips whose size ranges from fluid to kinetic scale, ubiquitously observed in the heliosphere and in planetary environments. Despite the longstanding effort in interpreting the abundance of observations, the origin and properties of MHs are still debated. In this letter, we investigate the interplay between plasma turbulence and MHs, using a 2D hybrid simulation initialized with solar wind parameters. We show that fully developed turbulence exhibits localized elongated magnetic depressions, whose properties are consistent with linear MHs frequently encountered in space. The observed MHs develop self-consistently from the initial magnetic field perturbations, by trapping hot ions with large pitch angles. Ion trapping produces an enhanced perpendicular temperature anysotropy that makes MHs stable for hundreds of ion gyroperiods, despite the surrounding turbulence. We introduce a new quantity, based on local magnetic field and ion temperature values, to measure the efficiency of ion trapping, with potential applications to the detection of MHs in satellite measurements. We complement this method by analyzing the ion velocity distribution functions inside MHs. Our diagnostics reveal the presence of trapped gyrotropic ion populations, whose velocity distribution is consistent with a loss cone, as expected for the motion of particles inside a magnetic mirror. Our results have potential implications for the theoretical and numerical modelling of MHs.

Entanglement hierarchies in multipartite scenarios

In this paper, we investigate the hierarchical structure of the $n$-partite quantum states. We present a whole set of hierarchical quantifications as a method of characterizing quantum states, which go beyond genuine multipartite entanglement measures and allow for fine identification among distinct entanglement contributions. This kind of quantifications, termed $k$-GM concurrence, can unambiguously classify entangled states into $(n-1)$ distinct classes from the perspective of $k$-nonseparability with $k$ running from $n$ down to 2, and comply with the axiomatic conditions of an entanglement measure. Compared to $k$-ME concurrence [\href{https://journals.aps.org/pra/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevA.86.062323} {Phys. Rev. A \textbf{86}, 062323 (2012)}], the hierarchical measures proposed by us embody advantages in distinguishing same class entangled state and measuring continuity. In addition, we establish the relation between $k$-ME concurrence and $k$-GM concurrence, and further derive a strong lower bound on the $k$-GM concurrence by exploiting the permutationally invariant part of a quantum state. Furthermore, we parametrize $k$-GM concurrence to obtain two more general and complete categories of quantifications, $q$-$k$-GM concurrence $(q>1)$ and $α$-$k$-GM concurrence $(0\leqα<1)$, which obey the properties enjoyed by $k$-GM concurrence as well. In particular, $α$-$2$-GM concurrence $(0<α<1)$ determines that the GHZ state and the $W$ state belong to the same hierarchy, and it is proven in detail satisfying the requirement that the GHZ state is more entangled than the $W$ state in multiqubit systems.

Spectral and Imaging Observations of a C2.3 White-Light Flare from the Advanced Space-Based Solar Observatory (ASO-S) and the Chinese H$α$ Solar Explorer (CHASE)

Solar white-light flares are characterized by an enhancement in the optical continuum, which are usually large flares (say X- and M-class flares). Here we report a small C2.3 white-light flare (SOL2022-12-20T04:10) observed by the \emph{Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory} and the \emph{Chinese H$α$ Solar Explorer}. This flare exhibits an increase of $\approx$6.4\% in the photospheric Fe \textsc{i} line at 6569.2\,Å and {$\approx$3.2\%} in the nearby continuum. The continuum at 3600\,Å also shows an enhancement of $\approx$4.7\%. The white-light brightening kernels are mainly located at the flare ribbons and co-spatial with nonthermal hard X-ray sources, which implies that the enhanced white-light emissions are related to nonthermal electron-beam heating. At the brightening kernels, the Fe \textsc{i} line displays an absorption profile that has a good Gaussian shape, with a redshift up to $\approx$1.7 km s$^{-1}$, while the H$α$ line shows an emission profile though having a central reversal. The H$α$ line profile also shows a red or blue asymmetry caused by plasma flows with a velocity of several to tens of km s$^{-1}$. It is interesting to find that the H$α$ asymmetry is opposite at the conjugate footpoints. It is also found that the CHASE continuum increase seems to be related to the change of photospheric magnetic field. Our study provides comprehensive characteristics of a small white-light flare that help understand the energy release process of white-light flares.

Rational Designing of Anthocyanidins-Directed Near-Infrared Two-Photon Fluorescence Probes

Recently, two-photon fluorescent probes based on anthocyanidins molecules have attracted extensive attention due to their outstanding photophysical properties. However, there are only a few two-photon excited fluorescent probes that really meet the requirements of relatively long emission wavelengths (>600 nm), large two-photon absorption (TPA) cross sections (300 GM), significant Stokes shift (>80 nm), and high fluorescence intensity. Herein, the photophysical properties of a series of anthocyanidins with the same substituents but different fluorophore skeletons were investigated in detail. Compared with b-series molecules, a-series molecules with a six-membered ring in the backbone have a slightly higher reorganization energy. This results in more energy loss upon light excitation, enabling the reaction products to detect NTR through a larger Stokes shift. More importantly, there is very little decrease in fluorescence intensity as the Stokes shift increases. These features are extremely valuable for high-resolution NTR detection. In light of this, novel 2a-n (n=1-5) compounds are designed, which are accomplished by inhibiting the twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) effect through alkyl cyclization, azetidine ring and extending π conjugation. Among them, 2a-3 gains long emission spectrum (λem=691.42 nm), noticeable TPA cross section (957.36 GM), and large Stokes shift (110.88 nm), indicating that it serves as a promising candidate for two-photon fluorescent dyes. It is hoped that this work will offer some insightful theoretical direction for the development of novel high performance anthocyanin fluorescent materials.

Anisotropy of Density Fluctuations in the Solar Wind at 1 au

A well-known property of solar wind plasma turbulence is the observed anisotropy of the autocorrelations, or equivalently the spectra, of velocity and magnetic field fluctuations. Here we explore the related but apparently not well-studied issue of the anisotropy of plasma density fluctuations in the energy-containing and inertial ranges of solar wind turbulence. Using 10 years (1998-2008) of in situ data from the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) mission, we find that for all but the fastest wind category, the density correlation scale is slightly larger in directions quasi-parallel to the large-scale mean magnetic field as compared to quasi-perpendicular directions. The correlation scale in fast wind is consistent with isotropic. The anisotropy as a function of the level of correlation is also explored. We find at small correlation levels, i.e., at energy-containing scales and larger, the density fluctuations are close to isotropy for fast wind, and slightly favor more rapid decorrelation in perpendicular directions for slow and medium winds. At relatively smaller (inertial range) scales where the correlation values are larger, the sense of anisotropy is reversed in all speed ranges, implying a more "slab-like" structure, especially prominent in the fast wind samples. We contrast this finding with published results on velocity and magnetic field correlations.

Quantifying multipartite quantum states by ($k+1$)-partite entanglement measures

In this paper, we investigate how to quantify the quantum states of $n$-particles from the point of $(k+1)$-partite entanglement $(1\leq k\leq n-1)$, which plays an instrumental role in quantum nonlocality and quantum metrology. We put forward two families of entanglement measures termed $q$-$(k+1)$-PE concurrence $(q>1)$ and $α$-$(k+1)$-PE concurrence $(0\leqα<1)$, respectively. As far as the pure state is concerned, they are defined based on the minimum in entanglement. Meanwhile, rigorous proofs showing that both types of quantifications fulfill all the requirements of an entanglement measure are provided. In addition, we also propose two alternative kinds of entanglement measures, named $q$-$(k+1)$-GPE concurrence $(q>1)$ and $α$-$(k+1)$-GPE concurrence $(0\leqα<1)$, respectively, where the quantifications of any pure state are given by taking the geometric mean of entanglement under all partitions satisfying preconditions. Besides, the lower bounds of these measures are presented by means of the entanglement of permutationally invariant (PI) part of quantum states and the connections of these measures are offered. Moreover, we compare these measures and explain the similarities and differences among them. Furthermore, for computational convenience, we consider enhanced versions of the above quantifications that can be utilized to distinguish whether a multipartite state is genuinely strong $k$-producible.

Angle-Resolved Magneto-Chiral Anisotropy in a Non-Centrosymmetric Atomic Layer Superlattice

Chirality in solid-state materials has sparked significant interest due to potential applications of topologically-protected chiral states in next-generation information technology. The electrical magneto-chiral effect (eMChE), arising from relativistic spin-orbit interactions, shows great promise for developing chiral materials and devices for electronic integration. Here we demonstrate an angle-resolved eMChE in an A-B-C-C type atomic-layer superlattice lacking time and space inversion symmetry. We observe non-superimposable enantiomers of left-handed and right-handed tilted uniaxial magnetic anisotropy as the sample rotates under static fields, with the tilting angle reaching a striking 45 degree. Magnetic force microscopy and atomistic simulations correlate the tilt to the emergence and evolution of chiral spin textures. The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction lock effect in competition with Zeeman effect is demonstrated to be responsible for the angle-resolved eMChE. Our findings open up a new horizon for engineering angle-resolved magneto-chiral anisotropy, shedding light on the development of novel angle-resolved sensing or writing techniques in chiral spintronics.

Anisotropic Rabi model with two-photon relaxation

The interplay of three light-matter interaction processes - rotating and counter-rotating interactions and two-photon relaxation of the light field - is a topic of interest in quantum optics and quantum information processing. In this work, we theoretically investigate the three light-matter interaction processes using the anisotropic Rabi model, which accounts for different strengths of rotating and counter-rotating interactions and the unique occurrence of photon escape exclusively in pairs. By numerically solving the Lindblad master equation, we analyze the excitation-relaxation dynamics and derive a non-Hermitian effective Hamiltonian to gain further physical insights. To explore the individual effects of these interactions, we examine three analytically tractable limits of the effective Hamiltonian. Our analysis reveals that the three competitive light-matter interaction processes exhibit sensitivity to parity, leading to intriguing phenomena in both transient and steady states. Particularly interesting dynamical patterns resembling quantum phase transitions emerge when these three interaction terms compete. This work deepens the understanding of ultrastrong light-matter interaction in open quantum systems and offers valuable insights into cavity-based quantum computations.

decoupleQ: Towards 2-bit Post-Training Uniform Quantization via decoupling Parameters into Integer and Floating Points

Quantization emerges as one of the most promising compression technologies for deploying efficient large models for various real time application in recent years. Considering that the storage and IO of weights take up the vast majority of the overhead inside a large model, weight only quantization can lead to large gains. However, existing quantization schemes suffer from significant accuracy degradation at very low bits, or require some additional computational overhead when deployed, making it difficult to be applied to large-scale applications in industry. In this paper, we propose decoupleQ, achieving a substantial increase in model accuracy, especially at very low bits. decoupleQ abandons the traditional heuristic quantization paradigm and decouples the model parameters into integer and floating-point parts, thus transforming the quantization problem into a traditional mathematical optimization problem with constraints, which is then solved alternatively by off-the-shelf optimization methods. Quantization via decoupleQ is linear and uniform, making it hardware-friendlier than non-uniform counterpart, and enabling the idea to be migrated to high-bit quantization to enhance its robustness. Our method has achieved well on-line accuracy near fp16/bf16 on the 2-bit quantization of large speech models in ByteDance. The code is available at https://github.com/bytedance/decoupleQ

Observation of Cooper-pair density modulation state

Superconducting states that break space-group symmetries of the underlying crystal can exhibit nontrivial spatial modulation of the order parameter. Previously, such remarkable states were intimately associated with the breaking of translational symmetry, giving rise to the density-wave orders, with wavelengths spanning several unit cells. However, a related basic concept has been long overlooked: when only intra-unit-cell symmetries of the space group are broken, the superconducting states can display a distinct type of nontrivial modulation preserving long-range lattice translation. Here, we refer to this new concept as the pair density modulation (PDM), and report the first observation of a PDM state in exfoliated thin flakes of iron-based superconductor FeTe$_{\text{0.55}}$Se$_{\text{0.45}}$. Using scanning tunneling microscopy, we discover robust superconducting gap modulation with the wavelength corresponding to the lattice periodicity and the amplitude exceeding 30% of the gap average. Importantly, we find that the observed modulation originates from the large difference in superconducting gaps on the two nominally equivalent iron sublattices. The experimental findings, backed up by model calculations, suggest that in contrast to the density-wave orders, the PDM state is driven by the interplay of sublattice symmetry breaking and a peculiar nematic distortion specific to the thin flakes. Our results establish new frontiers for exploring the intertwined orders in strong-correlated electronic systems and open a new chapter for iron-based superconductors.

Prompt-Enhanced Software Vulnerability Detection Using ChatGPT

With the increase in software vulnerabilities that cause significant economic and social losses, automatic vulnerability detection has become essential in software development and maintenance. Recently, large language models (LLMs) like GPT have received considerable attention due to their stunning intelligence, and some studies consider using ChatGPT for vulnerability detection. However, they do not fully consider the characteristics of LLMs, since their designed questions to ChatGPT are simple without a specific prompt design tailored for vulnerability detection. This paper launches a study on the performance of software vulnerability detection using ChatGPT with different prompt designs. Firstly, we complement previous work by applying various improvements to the basic prompt. Moreover, we incorporate structural and sequential auxiliary information to improve the prompt design. Besides, we leverage ChatGPT's ability of memorizing multi-round dialogue to design suitable prompts for vulnerability detection. We conduct extensive experiments on two vulnerability datasets to demonstrate the effectiveness of prompt-enhanced vulnerability detection using ChatGPT. We also analyze the merit and demerit of using ChatGPT for vulnerability detection. Repository: https://github.com/KDEGroup/LLMVulnerabilityDetection.
