Sharp logarithmic corrections for a strong-weak Lotka-Volterra competition system

We study the one-dimensional strong-weak Lotka-Volterra competition-diffusion system \[ u_t=u_{xx}+u(1-u-av),\qquad v_t=dv_{xx}+rv(1-v-bu), \] with compactly supported initial data under the parameter condition $0<a<1<b$. Existing literature only gives leading-order spreading speed asymptotics without refined logarithmic corrections for wave fronts over the full parameter space. We convert the competitive system into an equivalent cooperative parabolic system and establish moving-domain comparison principles. Based on heat-kernel estimates, we derive sharp logarithmic asymptotic expansions for the rightmost level set of the stronger species $u$. According to the magnitudes of three characteristic speeds, five long-time dynamical regimes are classified, including pulled, nonlocally pulled, pushed and critical transition fronts, with explicit logarithmic and double-logarithmic phase corrections. Our results capture delicate long-time phase offsets of wave profiles neglected in previous leading-order theories.

Propagation Dynamics for Multidimensional Nonlocal Diffusion Equations: A General Freidlin-G\"artner Formula

In this paper, we establish a unified geometric description for the propagation behavior of multidimensional nonlocal diffusion equations. By extending the classical Freidlin-G\"artner framework to general asymmetric, nonlocal operators, our theory naturally captures biased propagation--a regime where the intrinsic spreading set may exclude the origin. A key consequence is the representation of the spreading set as a Minkowski sum, which holds for both bounded and unbounded initial supports. Within this framework, we derive uniform spreading estimates and prove the local Hausdorff convergence of level sets in arbitrary dimensions. Our work therefore not only recovers known isotropic results but also provides a complete characterization of the biased case. Moreover, the methods developed here are readily adaptable to a broader class of diffusion problems featuring general operators and nonlinearities.

Spreading dynamics for the Lotka-Volterra system with general initial supports: the strong competition

This paper studies the spreading dynamics of a high-dimensional strong competition Lotka-Volterra system where two species initially occupy disjoint measurable (possibly unbounded) subsets in $\mathbb{R}^N$, which are called initial support. Recently, Hamel and Rossi [14] introduced some new geometric notions, such as bounded or unbounded directions and positive-distance interior, for single-species equations with general initial supports. Under these notions and appropriate assumptions, we characterize directional spreading behavior for the two-species system: precise spreading speeds and sets for both species are derived.

Reaction-diffusion equations in periodic media: convergence to pulsating fronts

This paper is concerned with reaction-diffusion-advection equations in spatially periodic media. Under an assumption of weak stability of the constant states 0 and 1, and of existence of pulsating traveling fronts connecting them, we show that fronts' profiles appear, along sequences of times and points, in the large-time dynamics of the solutions of the Cauchy problem, whether their initial supports are bounded or unbounded. The types of equations that fit into our assumptions are the combustion and the bistable ones. We also show a generalized Freidlin-G{\"a}rtner formula and other geometrical properties of the asymptotic invasion shapes, or spreading sets, of invading solutions, and we relate these sets to the upper level sets of the solutions.

Curved fronts of bistable reaction-diffusion equations in spatially periodic media: $N\ge 2$

This paper is concerned with curved fronts of bistable reaction-diffusion equations in spatially periodic media for dimensions $N\geq 2$. The curved fronts concerned are transition fronts connecting $0$ and $1$. Under a priori assumption that there exist moving pulsating fronts in every direction, we show the existence of polytope-like curved fronts with $0$-zone being a polytope and $1$-zone being the complementary set. By reversing some conditions, we also show the existence of curved fronts with reversed $0$-zone and $1$-zone. Furthermore, the curved fronts constructed by us are proved to be unique and asymptotic stable.

Asymptotic speeds of spreading for the Lotka-Volterra system with strong competition in $\mathbb{R}^N$

This paper is concerned with the asymptotic spreading behavior of solutions of the Lotka-Volterra system with strong competition in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$. Two types of initial conditions are proposed: (C1) two species initially occupy bounded domains; (C2) two species initially occupy the whole space separately. The spreading dynamics for (C1) (C2) is strongly depending on the speeds of traveling fronts of the scalar equations with no competition and the system. We give the asymptotic speeds of spreading for both (C1) (C2).

Some new bistable transition fronts with changing shape

We construct entire solutions of bistable reaction-diffusion equations by mixing finite planar fronts, which form a finite-dimensional manifold. These entire solutions are generalized traveling fronts, that is, transition fronts. We also show their uniqueness and stability. Furthermore, we prove that transition fronts with level sets having finite facets are determined by finite planar fronts and they are in the class of entire solutions constructed by us.

Pushed fronts of monostable reaction-diffusion-advection equations

In this paper, we prove some qualitative properties of pushed fronts for the periodic reaction-diffusion-equation with general monostable nonlinearities. Especially, we prove the exponential behavior of pushed fronts when they are approaching their unstable state. The proof also allows us to get the exponential behavior of pulsating fronts with speed $c$ larger than the minimal speed. Through the exponential behavior, we finally prove the stability of pushed fronts.

Curved fronts of bistable reaction-diffusion equations in spatially periodic media

In this paper, curved fronts are constructed for spatially periodic bistable reaction-diffusion equations under the a priori assumption that there exist pulsating fronts in every direction. Some sufficient and some necessary conditions of the existence of curved fronts are given. Furthermore, the curved front is proved to be unique and stable. Finally, a curved front with varying interfaces is also constructed. Despite the effect of the spatial heterogeneity, the result shows the existence of curved fronts for spatially periodic bistable reaction-diffusion equations which is known for the homogeneous case.

Transition fronts in unbounded domains with multiple branches

This paper is concerned with the existence and uniqueness of transition fronts of a general reaction-diffusion-advection equation in domains with multiple branches. In this paper, every branch in the domain is not necessary to be straight and we use the notions of almost-planar fronts to generalize the standard planar fronts. Under some assumptions of existence and uniqueness of almost-planar fronts with positive propagating speeds in extended branches, we prove the existence of entire solutions emanating from some almost-planar fronts in some branches. Then, we get that these entire solutions converge to almost-planar fronts in some of the rest branches as time increases if no blocking occurs in these branches. Finally, provided by the complete propagation of every front-like solution emanating from one almost-planar front in every branch, we prove that there is only one type of transition fronts, that is, the entire solutions emanating from some almost-planar fronts in some branches and converging to almost-planar fronts in the rest branches.

On the mean speed of bistable transition fronts in unbounded domains

This paper is concerned with the existence and further properties of propagation speeds of transition fronts for bistable reaction-diffusion equations in exterior domains and in some domains with multiple cylindrical branches. In exterior domains we show that all transition fronts with complete propagation propagate with the same global mean speed, which turns out to be equal to the uniquely defined planar speed. In domains with multiple cylindrical branches, we show that the solutions emanating from some branches and propagating completely are transition fronts propagating with the unique planar speed. We also give some geometrical and scaling conditions on the domain, either exterior or with multiple cylindrical branches, which guarantee that any transition front has a global mean speed.

Propagating speeds of bistable transition fronts in spatially periodic media

This paper is concerned with the propagating speeds of transition fronts in $R^N$ for spatially periodic bistable reaction-diffusion equations. The notion of transition fronts generalizes the standard notions of traveling fronts. Under the a priori assumption that there exist pulsating fronts for every direction $e$ with nonzero speeds, we show some continuity and differentiability properties of the front speeds and profiles with respect to the direction $e$. Finally, we prove that the propagating speed of any transition front is larger than the infimum of speeds of pulsating fronts and less than the supremum of speeds of pulsating fronts.
