Inelastic Dark Matter and High-Energy Recoil Signatures in LZ

We study the inelastic dark matter (iDM) that consists of two-component dark matter particles $(χ_1,χ_2)$ and serves as a minimal extension beyond the commonly used one-component DM models. A distinctive feature of such iDM scattering with the target nuclei is to favorably produce signals at high nuclear recoil (NR) energy region in both exothermic and endothermic processes. In particular, for the exothermic dark matter scenario, the signal does not rely on the tail of the Boltzmann velocity distribution. As a result, the required DM-nucleus scattering cross section is significantly reduced, which in turn helps to substantially relax the stringent constraints imposed by IceCube neutrino searches. Using the inelastic DM-nucleus scattering, we naturally explain the newly reported event excess at high recoil energy with the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment.

Cosmological Collider Signatures from Right-Handed Neutrino Loop

We study cosmological collider (CC) signatures generated by right-handed neutrino loops in the setup of inflation combined with the neutrino seesaw mechanism. We formulate the inflaton interaction with the right-handed neutrinos through a unique dimension-5 operator respecting shift symmetry, which induces an effective chemical potential in the slow-roll background, leading to helicity-dependent production of right-handed neutrinos and enhancing the CC signatures. The right-handed neutrino is described by a two-component Weyl spinor with a Majorana mass term. Using the Schwinger-Keldysh formalism, we derive a set of seed integrals for fermion propagators of the right-handed Majorana neutrino. With these, we compute the factorized nonlocal contributions to the three-point inflaton correlator generated by the triangle loop of right-handed neutrinos. We show that the chemical potential can substantially soften the heavy-mass Boltzmann suppression and amplify the oscillatory non-Gaussianity signatures associated with the dominant helicity mode. We systematically analyze the spinor structure, the factorization of fermion triangle loop, the loop-momentum integrals and the time seed integrals, which give a controlled computation of the nonlocal contributions to the CC signals of the right-handed neutrinos.

Structure of Chern-Simons Graviton Scattering Amplitudes from Topological Graviton Equivalence Theorem and Double Copy

Gravitons naturally acquire topological masses in the 3d topologically massive gravity (TMG) theory that includes the gravitational Chern-Simons term. We present a Weyl-transformed TMG (WTMG) formulation by introducing an unphysical dilaton field through the Weyl transformation. We perform the BRST quantization of the WTMG, which reduces to the conventional TMG in the unitary gauge. We demonstrate that this WTMG theory conserves the physical degrees of freedom (DoF) in the massless limit, under which the physical massive graviton becomes an unphysical massless graviton and its physical DoF is converted to the massless dilaton. With these, we newly establish a Topological Graviton Equivalence Theorem (TGRET), which connects each scattering amplitude of physical gravitons to the corresponding dilaton scattering amplitude in the high energy limit. The TGRET provides a general mechanism to guarantee all the large energy cancellations in any massive graviton scattering amplitudes. Applying the TGRET and using the generalized gravitational power counting rule, we prove that the $N$-point massive graviton amplitudes ($N\!\!\geqq\!4$) have striking energy cancellations by powers proportional to $\frac{5}{2}N$ ($\frac{7}{2}N$) in the Landau (unitary) gauge. For four graviton scattering amplitudes, this explains their large energy cancellations of $E^{11}\to E^1$ (Landau gauge) and $E^{12}\to E^1$ (unitary gauge). We compute the four-point graviton (dilaton) amplitudes and explicitly demonstrate the TGRET and these large energy cancellations. With the extended massive double-copy approach, we systematically construct the three- and four-point graviton (dilaton) scattering amplitudes in the WTMG theory from the corresponding gauge boson (adjoint scalar) amplitudes in the topologically massive Yang-Mills theory.

Probing CP-Violating Neutral Triple Gauge Couplings at Electron-Positron Colliders

We study the CP-violating (CPV) neutral triple gauge couplings (nTGCs) that can be realized via dimension-8 operators in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). We present a new formulation of the CPV nTGC form factors that is compatible with spontaneous breaking of the electroweak gauge symmetry, and show how these CPV form factors can be matched consistently with the corresponding dimension-8 CPV nTGC operators in the broken phase. We then study probes of the CPV nTGCs at future high-energy $e^+e^-$ colliders with centre-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}=(0.25, 0.5, 1, 3, 5)$TeV respectively, demonstrating that the $e^{\mp}$ beam polarizations can help to improve the sensitivities of probes of the nTGCs. We estimate that the sensitivity reaches for probing the new physics scales of nTGCs can range from ${O}(\rm{TeV})$ at a 250GeV $e^+e^-$ collider to ${O}(10\,\rm{TeV})$ at an $e^+e^-$ collider of energy $(3-5)$TeV, and that the sensitivities to the nTGC form factors vary from ${O}(10^{-4})$ to ${O}(10^{-6}-10^{-8})$ for the $e^+e^-$ collision energy from 250GeV to $(3-5)$TeV.

Probing Neutral Triple Gauge Couplings via $ZZ$ Production at $e^+e^-$ Colliders with Machine Learning

Neutral triple gauge couplings (nTGCs) first arise from the dimension-8 operators of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), rather than the dimension-4 SM Lagrangian and dimension-6 SMEFT operators, opening up a unique window for probing new physics at the dimension-8 level. In this work, we formulate the nTGC form factors of $ZZV^*$ ($V\!\!=\!Z,γ$) that are compatible with the spontaneous breaking of the SU(2)$\otimes$U(1) electroweak gauge symmetry and consistently match the dimension-8 nTGC operators in the broken phase. We study the sensitivities for probing both the $ZZV^*$ form factors and the corresponding new physics scales through $ZZ$ production (with visible/invisible fermionic $Z$ decays) at high energy $e^+e^-$ colliders including CEPC, FCC-ee, ILC and CLIC. In particular, we identify the dimension-8 operator that contributes to the pure triple $Z$ boson coupling $ZZZ^*$ alone, but not the mixed $ZZγ^*$ coupling. We further study the correlations between probes of the $ZZZ^*$ and $ZZγ^*$ couplings. Using machine learning, we show that angular distributions of the final-state fermions can play key roles in suppressing the SM backgrounds. The sensitivities can be further improved by using polarized $e^\mp$ beams. We demonstrate that machine learning is advantageous for handling the 4-body final states from $ZZ$ decays and improves significantly the sensitivity reaches of probes of nTGCs in $e^+e^-$ collisions. We find that nTGC new physics scales can be probed up to the multi-TeV scale at the proposed $e^+e^-$ colliders.

Cosmological Signatures of Neutrino Seesaw Mechanism

The tiny neutrino masses are most naturally explained by seesaw mechanism through singlet right-handed neutrinos, which can further explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Universe. In this Letter, we propose a new approach to study cosmological signatures of neutrino seesaw through the interaction between inflaton and right-handed neutrinos that respects the shift symmetry. In our framework, after inflation the inflaton predominantly decays into right-handed neutrinos and its decay rate is modulated by the fluctuations of Higgs field that act as the source of curvature perturbations. This gives a new realization of Higgs modulated reheating, and it produces primordial non-Gaussian signatures that can be measured by the forthcoming large-scale structure surveys. We find that these surveys have the potential to probe a large portion of the neutrino seesaw parameter space, opening up a new window for testing the high scale seesaw mechanism.

Cosmological Non-Gaussianity from Neutrino Seesaw Mechanism

The neutrino mass generation via conventional seesaw mechanism is realized at high scales around $O(10^{14})$GeV with natural Yukawa couplings of $O(1)$, making the test of neutrino seesaw a great challenge. It is intriguing to note that the neutrino seesaw scale is typically around the upper range of the cosmological inflation scale. In this work, we propose a new framework incorporating inflation and neutrino seesaw in which the inflaton primarily decays into right-handed neutrinos after inflation. This decay process is governed by the inflaton interaction with the right-handed neutrinos that respects the shift symmetry. With the neutrino seesaw mechanism, we construct a new realization of the Higgs modulated reheating, in which the fluctuations of Higgs field can modulate the inflaton decays and contribute to the primordial curvature perturbation. We investigate the induced non-Gaussian signatures and demonstrate, for the first time, that such signatures provide an important means to directly probe the high scale of natural neutrino seesaw. We further analyze the interplay of the non-Gaussianity signatures with the low-energy neutrino experiments, and their interplay with the Higgs self-coupling measurements at the LHC and future colliders.

New Physics Search at the CEPC: a General Perspective

The Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC), a proposed next-generation Higgs factory, provides new opportunities to explore physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). With its clean electron-positron collision environment and the ability to collect large samples of Higgs, W, and Z bosons, the CEPC enables precision measurements and searches for new physics. This white paper outlines the CEPC's discovery potential, including studies of exotic decays of the Higgs, Z, and top quarks, dark matter and dark sector phenomena, long-lived particles, supersymmetry, and neutrino-related signatures. Advanced detector technologies and reconstruction techniques, such as one-to-one correspondence reconstruction and jet origin identification, significantly improve sensitivity to rare and weakly interacting processes. The CEPC is particularly well suited to probe the electroweak phase transition and test models of electroweak baryogenesis and dark sector interactions. In addition, global fit analyses highlight the CEPC's complementary role in constraining a wide range of new physics scenarios. These features position the CEPC as a powerful tool for exploring the next frontier in fundamental particle physics in the post-Higgs discovery era.

Search for Light Inelastic Dark Matter with Low-Energy Ionization Signatures in PandaX-4T

Direct detection of light dark matter (DM) is generally difficult due to its small recoil energy. The inelastic scattering of DM can produce unique signatures in the DM direct detection experiments. Using the low-energy unpaired ionization data from PandaX-4T, we newly analyze the probe of the exothermic inelastic dark matter (ineDM). We demonstrate that PandaX-4T can probe the ineDM mass-splitting down to 0.05 keV and probe the ineDM mass to the sub-GeV range. For the ineDM with a dark photon mediator, we use the PandaX-4T data to impose stringent bounds on the mixing parameter between the dark photon and photon.

Flavor Physics at the CEPC: a General Perspective

We discuss the landscape of flavor physics at the Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC), based on the nominal luminosity outlined in its Technical Design Report. The CEPC is designed to operate in multiple modes to address a variety of tasks. At the $Z$ pole, the expected production of 4 Tera $Z$ bosons will provide unique and highly precise measurements of $Z$ boson couplings, while the substantial number of boosted heavy-flavored quarks and leptons produced in clean $Z$ decays will facilitate investigations into their flavor physics with unprecedented precision. We investigate the prospects of measuring various physics benchmarks and discuss their implications for particle theories and phenomenological models. Our studies indicate that, with its highlighted advantages and anticipated excellent detector performance, the CEPC can explore beauty and $τ$ physics in ways that are superior to or complementary with the Belle II and Large-Hadron-Collider-beauty experiments, potentially enabling the detection of new physics at energy scales of 10 TeV and above. This potential also extends to the observation of yet-to-be-discovered rare and exotic processes, as well as testing fundamental principles such as lepton flavor universality, lepton and baryon number conservation, etc., making the CEPC a vibrant platform for flavor physics research. The $WW$ threshold scan, Higgs-factory operation and top-pair productions of the CEPC further enhance its merits in this regard, especially for measuring the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements, and Flavor-Changing-Neutral-Current physics of Higgs boson and top quarks. We outline the requirements for detector performance and considerations for future development to achieve the anticipated scientific goals.

Structure of Massive Gauge/Gravity Scattering Amplitudes, Equivalence Theorems, and Extended Double-Copy with Compactified Warped Space

We study the structure of scattering amplitudes of massive Kaluza-Klein (KK) states in the compactified 5-dimensional warped gauge and gravity theories. We present systematic formulations of the gauge theory equivalence theorem (GAET) and the gravitational equivalence theorem (GRET) for warped KK theories in $R_ξ^{}$ gauge, where the GAET connects the scattering amplitudes of longitudinal KK gauge bosons to that of the corresponding KK Goldstone bosons and the GRET connects the scattering amplitudes of KK gravitons of helicity-zero (helicity-one) to that of the corresponding gravitational scalar (vector) KK Goldstone bosons. We analyze the structure of 3-point and 4-point scattering amplitudes of massive KK gauge bosons and of massive KK gravitons as well as their corresponding Goldstone bosons. We first prove the GAET and GRET explicitly for the fundamental 3-point KK gauge/gravity scattering amplitudes. We then demonstrate that the validity of the GAET and GRET for 4-point gauge/gravity scattering amplitudes can be reduced to the validity of GAET and GRET for 3-point gauge/gravity scattering amplitudes at tree level. With these, we study the double-copy construction of KK scattering amplitudes in the warped gauge/gravity theories. We newly realize the double-copy for massive 3-point full gauge/gravity amplitudes at tree level under proper correspondences of color-kinematics and of gauge/gravity couplings, whereas we can construct the double-copy for 4-point KK gauge/gravity amplitudes to the leading order (LO) of high energy expansion. We also conjecture that this LO double-copy construction can be extended to $N$-point scattering amplitudes with $N\!\geqslant 5$.

UV Completion of Neutral Triple Gauge Couplings

Neutral triple gauge couplings (nTGCs) are manifestation of new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM), as they are absent in the SM and are first generated by dimension-8 operators in the SM Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). We study the UV completion of nTGCs in a renormalizable model with vector-like heavy fermions. We compute the one-loop heavy fermion contributions to nTGC vertices by matching them to dimension-8 operators in the low energy limit. Such fermion loops contain either heavy fermions only or mixture of heavy fermions with light SM fermions. We find that their contributions can induce dimension-8 nTGC effective operators containing two SM Higgs-doublet fields, which are formulated with a complete set of 7 dimension-8 operators generating off-shell CP-even nTGCs. We present the results in terms of SMEFT coefficients and in terms of nTGC vertices (form factors) with two on-shell gauge bosons. In the heavy-light mixing case there appear terms that cannot be accommodated by conventional parametrizations of form factors due to extra logarithmic corrections. We further discuss the implications for probing such UV dynamics via nTGCs at the high energy colliders.

Probing Light Inelastic Dark Matter from Direct Detection

For dark matter (DM) direct detections, the kinematic effects such as those of the inelastic scattering can play important role in light DM searches. The light DM detection is generally difficult because of its small recoil energy. But the recoil energy of the exothermic inelastic DM scattering could exceed the detection threshold due to the contribution from the DM mass-splitting, making the direct detection of sub-GeV DM feasible. In this work, we systematically study signatures of the light exothermic inelastic DM from the recoil spectra including both the DM-electron scattering and Migdal effect. Such inelastic DM has mass around (sub-)GeV scale with DM mass-splitting of $O(1-10^2)$keV. We analyze the direct detection sensitivities to such light inelastic DM. For different inelastic DM masses and mass-splittings, we find that the DM-electron recoil and Migdal effect can contribute significantly and differently to the direct detection signatures. The DM-lepton and/or DM-quark interactions may vary for different DM models, and their interplay leads to a diversity in the recoil spectra. Hence, it is important to perform a combined analysis to include both the DM-electron recoil and Migdal effect. We further demonstrate that this analysis has strong impacts on the cosmological and laboratory bounds for the inelastic DM.

Constraining Holographic Dark Energy and Analyzing Cosmological Tensions

We investigate cosmological constraints on the holographic dark energy (HDE) using the state-of-the-art cosmological datasets: Planck CMB angular power spectra and weak lensing power spectra, Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) temperature power spectra, baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and redshift-space distortion (RSD) measurements from six-degree-field galaxy survey and Sloan Digital Sky Survey (DR12 & DR16) and the Cepheids-Supernovae measurement from SH0ES team (R22). We also examine the HDE model and $Λ$CDM with and without $N_{\rm eff}$ (effective number of relativistic species) being treated as a free parameter. We find that the HDE model can relieve the tensions of $H_0$ and $S_8$ to certain degrees. With ``Planck+ACT+BAO+RSD'' datasets, the constraints are $H_0 = 69.70 \pm 1.39\ \mathrm{km\ s^{-1} Mpc^{-1}}$ and $S_8 = 0.823 \pm 0.011$ in HDE model, which brings down the Hubble tension down to $1.92σ$ confidence level (C.L.) and the $S_8$ tension to $1$-$2σ$ C.L. By adding the R22 data, their values are improved as $H_0 = 71.86 \pm 0.93 \,\mathrm{km\ s^{-1} Mpc^{-1}}$ and $S_8 = 0.813 \pm 0.010$, which further brings the Hubble tension down to $0.85σ$ C.L. and relieves the $S_{8}$ tension. We also quantify the goodness-of-fit of different models with Akaike information criterion (AIC) and Bayesian information criterion (BIC), and find that the HDE agrees with the observational data better than the $Λ$CDM and other extended models (treating $N_{\rm eff}$ as free for fitting).

Probing Neutral Triple Gauge Couplings via $\boldsymbol{Zγ\,(\ell^+\ell^-γ)}$ Production at $\boldsymbol{e^+e^-}$ Colliders

Neutral triple gauge couplings (nTGCs) are absent in the Standard Model (SM) and at the dimension-6 level in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), arising first from dimension-8 operators. As such, they provide a unique window for probing new physics beyond the SM. These dimension-8 operators can be mapped to nTGC form factors whose structure is consistent with the spontaneously-broken electroweak gauge symmetry of the SM. In this work, we study the probes of nTGCs in the reaction $e^+e^-\to Zγ$ with $Z\to\ell^+\ell^-\,(\ell =e,μ)$ at an $e^+e^-$ collider. We perform a detector-level simulation and analysis of this reaction at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) with collision energy $\sqrt{s} = 240$ GeV and an integrated luminosity of 20 ab$^{-1}$. We present the sensitivity limits on probing the new physics scales of dimension-8 nTGC operators via measurements of the corresponding nTGC form factors.

Topological Equivalence Theorem and Double-Copy for Chern-Simons Scattering Amplitudes

We study the mechanism of topological mass-generation for 3d Chern-Simons gauge theories and propose a brand-new Topological Equivalence Theorem to connect scattering amplitudes of the physical gauge boson states to that of the transverse states under high energy expansion. We prove a general energy cancellation mechanism for $N$-point physical gauge boson amplitudes, which predicts large cancellations of $E^{4-L}\to E^{(4-L)- N}$ at any $L$-loop level ($L\geqslant 0$). We extend the double-copy approach to construct massive graviton amplitudes and study their structures. We newly uncover a series of strikingly large energy cancellations $E^{12}\to E^1$ of the tree-level four-graviton scattering amplitude under high energy expansion and establish a new correspondence between the two energy cancellations in the topologically massive Yang-Mills gauge theory and the topologically massive gravity theory. We further study the scattering amplitudes of Chern-Simons gauge bosons and gravitons in the nonrelativistic limit.

Probing Neutral Triple Gauge Couplings with $Z^* γ\, (ν\bar νγ)$ Production at Hadron Colliders

We study probes of neutral triple gauge couplings (nTGCs) via $Z^*γ$ production followed by off-shell decays $Z^*\toν\barν$ at the LHC and future $pp$ colliders, including both CP-conserving (CPC) and CP-violating (CPV) couplings. We present the dimension-8 SMEFT operators contributing to nTGCs and derive the correct form factor formulation for the off-shell vertices $Z^*γV^*$ ($V=Z,γ$) by matching them with the dimension-8 SMEFT operators. Our analysis includes new contributions enhanced by the large off-shell momentum of $Z^*$, beyond those of the conventional $ZγV^*$ vertices with on-shell $Zγ$. We analyze the sensitivity reaches for probing the CPC/CPV nTGC form factors and the new physics scales of the dimension-8 nTGC operators at the LHC and future 100TeV $pp$ colliders. We compare our new predictions with the existing LHC measurements of CPC nTGCs in the $ν\barνγ$ channel and demonstrate the importance of our new method.

The hMSSM with a Light Gaugino/Higgsino Sector: Implications for Collider and Astroparticle Physics

The hMSSM is a special parameterization of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) in which the mass of the lightest Higgs boson is automatically set to the LHC measured value, $M_h\!\!=\!\! 125$\,GeV, by adjusting the supersymmetric particle spectrum such that it provides the required amount of radiative corrections to the Higgs boson masses.\ The latter spectrum was in general assumed to be very heavy, as indicated by the present exclusion limits of the LHC, not to affect the phenomenology of the Higgs sector.\ In this work, we investigate the impact on the hMSSM by a light gaugino and higgsino sector, that is allowed by the present LHC data.\ In particular, we discuss the radiative corrections due to charginos and neutralinos to the Higgs boson masses and couplings and show that an hMSSM can still be realized in this context.\ We first describe how this scenario is implemented in the package SuSpect that generates the MSSM Higgs and supersymmetric spectra.\ We then analyze the possible impact of Higgs boson decays into these new states, as well as the reverse cascade channels with Higgs bosons in the final states, for the constraints on the MSSM Higgs sector at the LHC.\ We further explore the cosmological constraints on the hMSSM with a light gaugino--higgsino spectrum.\ We analyze the relic abundance of the lightest neutralino as a candidate of the dark matter in the Universe and the constraints on its mass and couplings by the present and future astroparticle physics experiments.
