Topological magnon modes on honeycomb lattice with coupling textures

Topological magnon modes are expected to be useful for novel applications such as robust information propagation, since they are immune to backscattering and robust against disorder. Although there are several of theoretical proposals for topological magnon modes and growing experimental efforts for realizing them by now, it is still desirable to add complementary insights on this important phenomenon. Here, we propose a new scheme to achieve topological magnon where only nearest-neighbour exchange couplings on honeycomb lattice are necessary. In both ferromagnets and antiferromagnets, tuning exchange couplings between and inside hexagonal unit cells induces a topological state accompanied by a band inversion between p-orbital and d-orbital like magnon modes. Topological magnon modes appear at the interface between a topological domain and a trivial domain with magnon currents, which counterpropagate depending on pseudospins originated from orbital angular momenta of magnon modes. This mimics the spin-momentum locking phenomenon in the quantum spin Hall effect.

Maxwell: a hardware and software highly integrated compute-storage system

The compute-storage framework is responsible for data storage and processing, and acts as the digital chassis of all upper-level businesses. The performance of the framework affects the business's processing throughput, latency, jitter, and etc., and also determines the theoretical performance upper bound that the business can achieve. In financial applications, the compute-storage framework must have high reliability and high throughput, but with low latency as well as low jitter characteristics. For some scenarios such as hot-spot account update, the performance of the compute-storage framework even surfaces to become a server performance bottleneck of the whole business system. In this paper, we study the hot-spot account issue faced by Alipay and present our exciting solution to this problem by developing a new compute-storage system, called Maxwell. Maxwell is a distributed compute-storage system with integrated hardware and software optimizations. Maxwell does not rely on any specific hardware (e.g. GPUs or FPGAs). Instead, it takes deep advantage of computer components' characteristics, such as disk, network, operating system and CPU, and aims to emit the ultimate performance of both hardware and software. In comparison with the existing hot-spot account updating solutions deployed online, Maxwell achieves three orders of magnitude performance improvement for end-to-end evaluation. Meanwhile, Maxwell also demonstrates remarkable performance gains in other related businesses of Ant Group.

Sentence Punctuation for Collaborative Commentary Generation in Esports Live-Streaming

To solve the existing sentence punctuation problem for collaborative commentary generation in Esports live-streaming, this paper presents two strategies for sentence punctuation for text sequences of game commentary, that is, punctuating sentences by two or three text sequence(s) originally punctuated by Youtube to obtain a complete sentence of commentary. We conducted comparative experiments utilizing and fine-tuning a state-of-the-art pre-trained generative language model among two strategies and the baseline to generate collaborative commentary. Both objective evaluations by automatic metrics and subjective analyses showed that our strategy of punctuating sentences by two text sequences outperformed the baseline.

Multi-Stage Network Embedding for Exploring Heterogeneous Edges

The relationships between objects in a network are typically diverse and complex, leading to the heterogeneous edges with different semantic information. In this paper, we focus on exploring the heterogeneous edges for network representation learning. By considering each relationship as a view that depicts a specific type of proximity between nodes, we propose a multi-stage non-negative matrix factorization (MNMF) model, committed to utilizing abundant information in multiple views to learn robust network representations. In fact, most existing network embedding methods are closely related to implicitly factorizing the complex proximity matrix. However, the approximation error is usually quite large, since a single low-rank matrix is insufficient to capture the original information. Through a multi-stage matrix factorization process motivated by gradient boosting, our MNMF model achieves lower approximation error. Meanwhile, the multi-stage structure of MNMF gives the feasibility of designing two kinds of non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) manners to preserve network information better. The united NMF aims to preserve the consensus information between different views, and the independent NMF aims to preserve unique information of each view. Concrete experimental results on realistic datasets indicate that our model outperforms three types of baselines in practical applications.

Show Me the Whole World: Towards Entire Item Space Exploration for Interactive Personalized Recommendations

User interest exploration is an important and challenging topic in recommender systems, which alleviates the closed-loop effects between recommendation models and user-item interactions. Contextual bandit (CB) algorithms strive to make a good trade-off between exploration and exploitation so that users' potential interests have chances to expose. However, classical CB algorithms can only be applied to a small, sampled item set (usually hundreds), which forces the typical applications in recommender systems limited to candidate post-ranking, homepage top item ranking, ad creative selection, or online model selection (A/B test). In this paper, we introduce two simple but effective hierarchical CB algorithms to make a classical CB model (such as LinUCB and Thompson Sampling) capable to explore users' interest in the entire item space without limiting it to a small item set. We first construct a hierarchy item tree via a bottom-up clustering algorithm to organize items in a coarse-to-fine manner. Then we propose a hierarchical CB (HCB) algorithm to explore users' interest in the hierarchy tree. HCB takes the exploration problem as a series of decision-making processes, where the goal is to find a path from the root to a leaf node, and the feedback will be back-propagated to all the nodes in the path. We further propose a progressive hierarchical CB (pHCB) algorithm, which progressively extends visible nodes which reach a confidence level for exploration, to avoid misleading actions on upper-level nodes in the sequential decision-making process. Extensive experiments on two public recommendation datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and flexibility of our methods.

Semantic and Syntactic Enhanced Aspect Sentiment Triplet Extraction

Aspect Sentiment Triplet Extraction (ASTE) aims to extract triplets from sentences, where each triplet includes an entity, its associated sentiment, and the opinion span explaining the reason for the sentiment. Most existing research addresses this problem in a multi-stage pipeline manner, which neglects the mutual information between such three elements and has the problem of error propagation. In this paper, we propose a Semantic and Syntactic Enhanced aspect Sentiment triplet Extraction model (S3E2) to fully exploit the syntactic and semantic relationships between the triplet elements and jointly extract them. Specifically, we design a Graph-Sequence duel representation and modeling paradigm for the task of ASTE: we represent the semantic and syntactic relationships between word pairs in a sentence by graph and encode it by Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), as well as modeling the original sentence by LSTM to preserve the sequential information. Under this setting, we further apply a more efficient inference strategy for the extraction of triplets. Extensive evaluations on four benchmark datasets show that S3E2 significantly outperforms existing approaches, which proves our S3E2's superiority and flexibility in an end-to-end fashion.

Modeling Heterogeneous Edges to Represent Networks with Graph Auto-Encoder

In the real world, networks often contain multiple relationships among nodes, manifested as the heterogeneity of the edges in the networks. We convert the heterogeneous networks into multiple views by using each view to describe a specific type of relationship between nodes, so that we can leverage the collaboration of multiple views to learn the representation of networks with heterogeneous edges. Given this, we propose a \emph{regularized graph auto-encoders} (RGAE) model, committed to utilizing abundant information in multiple views to learn robust network representations. More specifically, RGAE designs shared and private graph auto-encoders as main components to capture high-order nonlinear structure information of the networks. Besides, two loss functions serve as regularization to extract consistent and unique information, respectively. Concrete experimental results on realistic datasets indicate that our model outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in practical applications.

Multi-Task Representation Learning with Multi-View Graph Convolutional Networks

Link prediction and node classification are two important downstream tasks of network representation learning. Existing methods have achieved acceptable results but they perform these two tasks separately, which requires a lot of duplication of work and ignores the correlations between tasks. Besides, conventional models suffer from the identical treatment of information of multiple views, thus they fail to learn robust representation for downstream tasks. To this end, we tackle link prediction and node classification problems simultaneously via multi-task multi-view learning in this paper. We first explain the feasibility and advantages of multi-task multi-view learning for these two tasks. Then we propose a novel model named as MT-MVGCN to perform link prediction and node classification tasks simultaneously. More specifically, we design a multi-view graph convolutional network to extract abundant information of multiple views in a network, which is shared by different tasks. We further apply two attention mechanisms: view attention mechanism and task attention mechanism to make views and tasks adjust the view fusion process. Moreover, view reconstruction can be introduced as an auxiliary task to boost the performance of the proposed model. Experiments on real-world network datasets demonstrate that our model is efficient yet effective, and outperforms advanced baselines in these two tasks.

In this note we obtain local derivative estimates of Shi-type for the heat equation coupled to the Ricci flow. As applications, in part combining with Kuang's work, we extend some results of Zhang and Bamler-Zhang including distance distortion estimates and a backward pseudolocality theorem for Ricci flow on compact manifolds to the noncompact case.

Outlier-Resilient Web Service QoS Prediction

The proliferation of Web services makes it difficult for users to select the most appropriate one among numerous functionally identical or similar service candidates. Quality-of-Service (QoS) describes the non-functional characteristics of Web services, and it has become the key differentiator for service selection. However, users cannot invoke all Web services to obtain the corresponding QoS values due to high time cost and huge resource overhead. Thus, it is essential to predict unknown QoS values. Although various QoS prediction methods have been proposed, few of them have taken outliers into consideration, which may dramatically degrade the prediction performance. To overcome this limitation, we propose an outlier-resilient QoS prediction method in this paper. Our method utilizes Cauchy loss to measure the discrepancy between the observed QoS values and the predicted ones. Owing to the robustness of Cauchy loss, our method is resilient to outliers. We further extend our method to provide time-aware QoS prediction results by taking the temporal information into consideration. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments on both static and dynamic datasets. The results demonstrate that our method is able to achieve better performance than state-of-the-art baseline methods.

Kähler-Ricci flow on homogeneous toric bundles

Assume that $X$ is a homogeneous toric bundle of the form $G^{\mathbb{C}}\times_{P,τ} F$ and is Fano, where $G$ is a compact semisimple Lie group with complexification $G^\mathbb{C}$, $P$ a parabolic subgroup of $G^\mathbb{C}$, $τ:P\rightarrow (T^m)^\mathbb{C}$ is a surjective homomorphism from $P$ to the algebraic torus $(T^m)^\mathbb{C}$, and $F$ is a compact toric manifold of complex dimension $m$. In this note we show that the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow on $X$ with a $G\times T^m$-invariant initial Kähler form in $c_1(X)$ converges, modulo the algebraic torus action, to a Kähler-Ricci soliton. This extends a previous work of X. H. Zhu. As a consequence we recover a result of Podestà-Spiro.

Estimating Socioeconomic Status via Temporal-Spatial Mobility Analysis -- A Case Study of Smart Card Data

The notion of socioeconomic status (SES) of a person or family reflects the corresponding entity's social and economic rank in society. Such information may help applications like bank loaning decisions and provide measurable inputs for related studies like social stratification, social welfare and business planning. Traditionally, estimating SES for a large population is performed by national statistical institutes through a large number of household interviews, which is highly expensive and time-consuming. Recently researchers try to estimate SES from data sources like mobile phone call records and online social network platforms, which is much cheaper and faster. Instead of relying on these data about users' cyberspace behaviors, various alternative data sources on real-world users' behavior such as mobility may offer new insights for SES estimation. In this paper, we leverage Smart Card Data (SCD) for public transport systems which records the temporal and spatial mobility behavior of a large population of users. More specifically, we develop S2S, a deep learning based approach for estimating people's SES based on their SCD. Essentially, S2S models two types of SES-related features, namely the temporal-sequential feature and general statistical feature, and leverages deep learning for SES estimation. We evaluate our approach in an actual dataset, Shanghai SCD, which involves millions of users. The proposed model clearly outperforms several state-of-art methods in terms of various evaluation metrics.

Backwards uniqueness of the mean curvature flow

In this note we prove the backwards uniqueness of the mean curvature flow for (codimension one) hypersurfaces in a Euclidean space. More precisely, let $F_t, \widetilde{F}_t:M^n \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ be two complete solutions of the mean curvature flow on $M^n \times [0,T]$ with bounded second fundamental forms. Suppose $F_T=\widetilde{F}_T$, then $F_t=\widetilde{F}_t$ on $M^n \times [0,T]$. This is an analog of a result of Kotschwar on the Ricci flow.

Dimensionality Reduction of Hyperspectral Imagery Based on Spatial-spectral Manifold Learning

The graph embedding (GE) methods have been widely applied for dimensionality reduction of hyperspectral imagery (HSI). However, a major challenge of GE is how to choose proper neighbors for graph construction and explore the spatial information of HSI data. In this paper, we proposed an unsupervised dimensionality reduction algorithm termed spatial-spectral manifold reconstruction preserving embedding (SSMRPE) for HSI classification. At first, a weighted mean filter (WMF) is employed to preprocess the image, which aims to reduce the influence of background noise. According to the spatial consistency property of HSI, the SSMRPE method utilizes a new spatial-spectral combined distance (SSCD) to fuse the spatial structure and spectral information for selecting effective spatial-spectral neighbors of HSI pixels. Then, it explores the spatial relationship between each point and its neighbors to adjusts the reconstruction weights for improving the efficiency of manifold reconstruction. As a result, the proposed method can extract the discriminant features and subsequently improve the classification performance of HSI. The experimental results on PaviaU and Salinas hyperspectral datasets indicate that SSMRPE can achieve better classification accuracies in comparison with some state-of-the-art methods.

Majorana phi0 Junction in a Disordered Spin-orbit Coupling Nanowire with Tilted Magnetic Field

Majorana Josephson junctions in nanowire systems exhibit a pseudo-$4π$ period current-phase relation in the clean limit. In this work, we study how this current-phase relation responds to a tilted magnetic field in a disordered Majorana Josephson junction within the Bogoliubov-de Gennes approach. We show that the tilted magnetic field induces a $ϕ_0$ phase shift to the current-phase relation. Most importantly, we find that this $ϕ_0$-junction behavior is robust even in the presence of disorders.

Critical Current Anomaly at the Topological Quantum Phase Transition in a Majorana Josephson Junction

Majorana bound states in topological Josephson junctions induce a 4? period current-phase relation. Direct detection of the 4? periodicity is complicated by the quasiparticle poisoning. We reveal that Majorana bound states are also signaled by the anomalous enhancement on the critical current of the junction. We show the landscape of the critical current for a nanowire Josephson junction under a varying Zeeman field, and reveal a sharp step feature at the topological quantum phase transition point, which comes from the anomalous enhancement of the critical current at the topological regime. In multi-band wires, the anomalous enhancement disappears for an even number of bands, where the Majorana bound states fuse into Andreev bound states. This anomalous critical current enhancement directly signals the existence of the Majorana bound states, and also provides a valid signature for the topological quantum phase transition.

Notes on branched coverings of Seifert manifolds

In a paper published in 2002, the author gave a criterion to determine whether there is a fiber-preserving branched covering between two given orientable Seifert manifolds with orientable bases. Here we supply some details of the proof of two claims in that paper. We give an explicit construction of fiber-preserving branched covering between two Seifert fibered solid tori when their Seifert invariants satisfy certain relation, and we show the factorability of fiber-preserving branched coverings between two closed Seifert manifolds.
