Cost-effectiveness Analysis of Antiepidemic Policies and Global Situation Assessment of COVID-19

With a two-layer contact-dispersion model and data in China, we analyze the cost-effectiveness of three types of antiepidemic measures for COVID-19: regular epidemiological control, local social interaction control, and inter-city travel restriction. We find that: 1) intercity travel restriction has minimal or even negative effect compared to the other two at the national level; 2) the time of reaching turning point is independent of the current number of cases, and only related to the enforcement stringency of epidemiological control and social interaction control measures; 3) strong enforcement at the early stage is the only opportunity to maximize both antiepidemic effectiveness and cost-effectiveness; 4) mediocre stringency of social interaction measures is the worst choice. Subsequently, we cluster countries/regions into four groups based on their control measures and provide situation assessment and policy suggestions for each group.

Latent Space Roadmap for Visual Action Planning of Deformable and Rigid Object Manipulation

We present a framework for visual action planning of complex manipulation tasks with high-dimensional state spaces such as manipulation of deformable objects. Planning is performed in a low-dimensional latent state space that embeds images. We define and implement a Latent Space Roadmap (LSR) which is a graph-based structure that globally captures the latent system dynamics. Our framework consists of two main components: a Visual Foresight Module (VFM) that generates a visual plan as a sequence of images, and an Action Proposal Network (APN) that predicts the actions between them. We show the effectiveness of the method on a simulated box stacking task as well as a T-shirt folding task performed with a real robot.

StableNet: Semi-Online, Multi-Scale Deep Video Stabilization

Video stabilization algorithms are of greater importance nowadays with the prevalence of hand-held devices which unavoidably produce videos with undesirable shaky motions. In this paper we propose a data-driven online video stabilization method along with a paired dataset for deep learning. The network processes each unsteady frame progressively in a multi-scale manner, from low resolution to high resolution, and then outputs an affine transformation to stabilize the frame. Different from conventional methods which require explicit feature tracking or optical flow estimation, the underlying stabilization process is learned implicitly from the training data, and the stabilization process can be done online. Since there are limited public video stabilization datasets available, we synthesized unstable videos with different extent of shake that simulate real-life camera movement. Experiments show that our method is able to outperform other stabilization methods in several unstable samples while remaining comparable in general. Also, our method is tested on complex contents and found robust enough to dampen these samples to some extent even it was not explicitly trained in the contents.

ATCA-based ATLAS FTK input interface system

The first stage of the ATLAS Fast TracKer (FTK) is an ATCA-based input interface system, where hits from the entire silicon tracker are clustered and organized into overlapping eta-phi trigger towers before being sent to the tracking engines. First, FTK Input Mezzanine cards receive hit data and perform clustering to reduce data volume. Then, the ATCA-based Data Formatter system will organize the trigger tower data, sharing data among boards over full mesh backplanes and optic fibers. The board and system level design concepts and implementation details, as well as the operation experiences from the FTK full-chain testing, will be presented.

Prototype performance studies of a Full Mesh ATCA-based General Purpose Data Processing Board

High luminosity conditions at the LHC pose many unique challenges for potential silicon based track trigger systems. One of the major challenges is data formatting, where hits from thousands of silicon modules must first be shared and organized into overlapping eta-phi trigger towers. Communication between nodes requires high bandwidth, low latency, and flexible real time data sharing, for which a full mesh backplane is a natural solution. A custom Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture data processing board is designed with the goal of creating a scalable architecture abundant in flexible, non-blocking, high bandwidth board to board communication channels while keeping the design as simple as possible. We have performed the first prototype board testing and our first attempt at designing the prototype system has proven to be successful. Leveraging the experience we gained through designing, building and testing the prototype board system we are in the final stages of laying out the next generation board, which will be used in the ATLAS Level-2 Fast TracKer as Data Formatter, as well as in the CMS Level-1 tracking trigger R&D for early technical demonstrations.

Electroweak measurements from $W$, $Z$ and photon final states

We present the most recent precision electroweak measurements of single $W$ and $Z$ boson cross section and properties from the LHC and Tevatron colliders, analyzing data collected by ATLAS, CDF, CMS, D0, and LHCb detectors. The results include the measurement of the single $W$ and $Z$ boson cross section at LHC, the differential cross section measurements, the measurement of $W$ boson mass, the measurement of $W$ and $Z$ charge asymmetry. These measurements provide precision tests on the electroweak theory, high order predictions and the information can be used to constraint parton distribution functions.

Single W and Z production, asymmetry, and V+jetse at the Tevatron

We present the most recent W and Z production, asymmetries, and V+jets results from the Tevatron collider at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV, analyzing data collected by CDF and DZero detectors between 2002-2011. The results include the measurements of the W and Z bosons properties, include boson p_T and asymmetries measurements, and also the W and Z boson plus jets productions. Those measurements provide the precision tests on the electroweak in Standard Model (SM), and high order theoretical predictions.
