Analytically Calibrated Upper L-Statistics for High-Dimensional Mean Change-Point Testing

This paper develops upper L-statistic methods for testing and localizing a high-dimensional mean change. At each candidate split, the proposed statistics rank the squared studentized CUSUM values across coordinates and aggregate either a fixed number or a fixed proportion of the largest entries. This construction connects max-type and sum-type procedures and provides sensitivity to a wide range of sparsity regimes. We establish asymptotic null distributions under an independent-component representation allowing weak cross-sectional dependence. The limiting laws are Poisson tangent processes for fixed ranks and Gaussian-process or Gumbel laws for proportional ranks. To improve finite-sample performance, we develop analytic calibrations for marginal variance estimation, cross-sectional dependence, extreme clustering, and skewness, and establish their first-order validity. We combine calibrated p-values from a matched pair of fixed- and proportional-order statistics using the Cauchy combination rule to adapt to unknown sparsity. For localization, the estimated change point is selected from the component scan with the smallest p-value. Simulation studies demonstrate generally satisfactory size calibration, competitive detection power, and effective localization across different sparsity levels. An application to semiconductor manufacturing data further illustrates the practical utility of the proposed methods.

Distorted quarkonia and spin alignment

It is well-known that atoms can change their shape when subject to external electromagnetic fields. Analogous phenomenon is expected for particles, which are much smaller in size with the corresponding shape change much harder to observe. We point out that shape change of particles can be accessed by measurements of their spin alignment. Motivated by recent measurements of spin alignment in relativistic heavy ion collisions, we consider quarkonia in electromagnetic fields as an example. We show that the quarkonia spin alignment receives both spin contribution from spin states mixing and orbital contribution from shape change. By a proper choice of quantization axis, it is possible to switch off the spin contribution, leaving only the orbital contribution. This makes spin alignment measurement a valuable probe of quarkonium structure.

High-Dimensional Hettmansperger-Randles Estimator and its Applications

The classic Hettmansperger-Randles Estimator has found extensive use in robust statistical inference. However, it cannot be directly applied to high-dimensional data. In this paper, we propose a high-dimensional Hettmansperger-Randles Estimator for the location parameter and scatter matrix of elliptical distributions in high-dimensional scenarios. Subsequently, we apply these estimators to two prominent problems: the one-sample location test problem and quadratic discriminant analysis. We discover that the corresponding new methods exhibit high effectiveness across a broad range of distributions. Both simulation studies and real-data applications further illustrate the superiority of the newly proposed methods.

Inverse Norm Weighted Maxsum Test for High Dimensional Location Parameters

In the context of high-dimensional data, we investigate the one-sample location testing problem. We introduce a max-type test based on the weighted spatial sign, which exhibits exceptional performance, particularly in the presence of sparse alternatives. Notably, we find that the inverse norm test significantly enhances the power of the test compared to several existing max-type tests. Next, we prove the asymptotic independence between the newly proposed max-type test statistic and the sum-type test statistic based on the weighted spatial sign. Then, we propose an innovative max-sum type testing procedure that integrates both test statistics. This novel procedure demonstrates remarkable robustness and effectiveness across a wide range of signal sparsity levels and heavy-tailed distributions. Through extensive simulation studies, we highlight the superior performance of the proposed method, showcasing its robustness and efficiency compared to traditional alternatives in various high-dimensional settings.

Limit Law for the Maximum Interpoint Distance of High Dimensional Dependent Variables

In this paper, we considier the limiting distribution of the maximum interpoint Euclidean distance $M_n=\max _{1 \leq i<j \leq n}\left\|\boldsymbol{X}_i-\boldsymbol{X}_j\right\|$, where $\boldsymbol{X}_1, \boldsymbol{X}_2, \ldots, \boldsymbol{X}_n$ be a random sample coming from a $p$-dimensional population with dependent sub-gaussian components. When the dimension tends to infinity with the sample size, we proves that $M_n^2$ under a suitable normalization asymptotically obeys a Gumbel type distribution. The proofs mainly depend on the Stein-Chen Poisson approximation method and high dimensional Gaussian approximation.
