Information-Based Martingale Optimal Transport

Randomised arcade processes are a class of continuous stochastic processes that interpolate in a strong sense, i.e., omega by omega, between any given ordered set of random variables, at fixed pre-specified times. Utilising these processes as generators of partial information, a class of continuous-time martingale -- the filtered arcade martingales (FAMs) -- are constructed. FAMs interpolate through a sequence of target random variables, which form a discrete-time martingale. The research presented in this paper relaxes the FAM setting to the interpolation between probability measures instead and treats the problem of selecting the worst martingale coupling for given, convexly ordered, probability measures contingent on the paths of FAMs that are constructed using the martingale coupling. This optimisation problem, that we term the information-based martingale optimal transport problem (IB-MOT), can be viewed from different perspectives. It can be understood as a model-free construction of FAMs, in the case where the coupling is not determined a priori. It can also be considered from the vantage point of optimal transport (OT), where the problem is concerned with introducing a noise factor in martingale optimal transport, similarly to how the entropic regularisation of optimal transport introduces noise in OT. The IB-MOT problem is static in its nature, since its aim is to find a coupling. However, a corresponding dynamical solution can be found by considering the FAM constructed with the identified optimal coupling. The existence and uniqueness of its solution are shown and an algorithm for empirical measures is proposed.

The Quadratic Variation of Gauss-Markov Semimartingales

The covariance function of a Gauss-Markov process evaluated at points $(s,t)$ admits a representation as a product of a function of $\min(s,t)$ and a function of $\max(s,t)$. We call these functions the covariance factors of a Gauss-Markov process, and give the expression of the quadratic variation of a Gauss-Markov semimartingale in terms of its covariance factors.

Arcade Processes for Informed Martingale Interpolation

Arcade processes are a class of continuous stochastic processes that interpolate in a strong sense, i.e., omega by omega, between zeros at fixed pre-specified times. Their additive randomisation allows one to match any finite sequence of target random variables, indexed by the given fixed dates, on the whole probability space. The randomised arcade processes (RAPs) can thus be interpreted as a generalisation of anticipative stochastic bridges. The filtrations generated by these processes are utilised to construct a class of martingales that interpolate between the given target random variables. These so-called filtered arcade martingales (FAMs) are almost-sure solutions to the martingale interpolation problem and reveal an underlying stochastic filtering structure. In the special case of conditionally Markov randomised arcade processes, the dynamics of FAMs are informed by Bayesian updating. The same ideas are applied to filtered arcade reverse-martingales, which are constructed in a similar fashion, using reverse-filtrations of RAPs, instead. Several explicit examples for RAPs and FAMs are provided and simulated. This paper concludes with an outlook on potential connections between FAMs and martingale optimal transport, and related applications.
