Expansion operators in spherically symmetric loop quantum gravity

The ingoing and outgoing null expansions associated to a spatial 2-sphere are quantized in the spherically symmetric model of loop quantum gravity. It is shown that the resulting expansion operators are self-adjoint in the kinematical Hilbert space with generalized eigenstates. It turns out that the outgoing and ingoing expansion operators share the common continuous part of their spectra but have different additional isolated eigenvalues. These results provide new insights on the avoidance of the singularities in classical general relativity and the establishment of certain notion of quantum horizons.

Quantum Geometry Effects in Quantum Field Theory: Hamiltonian constraint Generates Gravity-Matter Entanglement

In this paper, we address a foundational challenge in quantum field theory on curved spacetime by developing a consistent framework within loop quantum gravity. We introduce a methodology for defining meaningful superpositions of quantum geometry and matter states. This is achieved by identifying a restricted subspace of the gravitational phase space, which ensures unitary equivalence among Fock representations of a scalar field across different quantum geometries. Within the resulting well-defined state space, we derive weak solutions to the quantum Hamiltonian constraint of general relativity. Furthermore, we generalize the Hartle-Hawking vacuum state to this quantum geometric framework. The resulting state exhibits the inherent entanglement between geometry and matter, which arises from the quantum Hamiltonian constraint of general relativity. This work establishes a principled framework for studying geometry-matter entanglement and offers new insights into the quantum foundations of the black hole information paradox.

Quantum representation of reduced twisted geometry in loop quantum gravity

In this article, the quantum representation of the algebra among reduced twisted geometries (with respect to the Gauss constraint) is constructed in the gauge invariant Hilbert space of loop quantum gravity. It is shown that the reduced twisted geometric variables not only describe the spatial discrete geometry more clearly, but also form a simple Poisson algebra which is analogous to that in quantum mechanics. By regularizing the reduced twisted geometric variables properly, the fundamental algebra of reduced twisted geometry is established, with the gauge invariant Hilbert space in loop quantum gravity as the corresponding quantum representation space. This quantum representation also leads to fundamental operators associated with reduced twisted geometry. Based on these fundamental operators, a new type of extrinsic curvature operator is constructed in loop quantum gravity.

The semiclassical propagator for coherent state on twisted geometry

A new set of twisted geometric variables is introduced to parametrize the holonomy-flux phase space in loop quantum gravity. It is verified that these new geometric variables, after symplectic reduction with respect to the Gauss constraint, form a Poisson algebra which is analogue to that in quantum mechanics. This property ensures that these new geometric variables provide a simple path measure, upon which a new formulation of coherent state path integral based on twisted geometry coherent state is established in loop quantum gravity. Especially, this path integral is analytically computable by expanding the corresponding effective action around the complex evolution trajectories at second order, and the result gives the semi-classical approximation of the quantum propagator between twisted geometry coherent state in LQG.

Entanglement entropy of coherent intertwiner in loop quantum gravity

In this paper, we carry out the entanglement calculations on the coherent intertwiners. We first consider the entanglement introduced by the group-averaging of the tensor-product type intertwiner on a four-valents vertex. The result shows that the entanglement is determined by the probability distribution of recoupling spin, and this probability distribution is a well-behaved peak for the highest (and lowest) weight states. Further, we calculated explicitly the entanglement on gauge-invariant coherent intertwiner with four legs. Our numerical results show that the shape of the semiclassical polyhedron described by the coherent intertwiner can be related to the entanglement; In other words, the entanglement is controlled by the face-angle of the semiclassical polyhedron. Finally, we extend our analytical calculation to the coherent intertwiners with arbitrary number of legs.

Holonomy operator for spin connection and spatial scalar curvature operator in loop quantum gravity

In this article we propose a new construction of the spatial scalar curvature operator in (1+3)-dimensional LQG based on the twisted geometry. The starting point of the construction is to express the holonomy of the spin connection on a graph in terms of the twisted geometry variables, and we check that this expression reproduces the spin connection in terms of triads in a certain continuum limit. The spatial scalar curvature in terms of twisted geometry is obtained by considering the composition of the holonomy of the spin connection on the loops. With the twisted geometry parametrization of the holonomy-flux phase space, we further express the holonomy of the spin connection and the spatial scalar curvature on a graph in terms of fluxes. Finally, they are promoted as well-defined operators by replacing the fluxes with ordered flux operators.

Parametrization of holonomy-flux phase space in the Hamiltonian formulation of $SO(N)$ gauge field theory with $SO(D+1)$ loop quantum gravity as an exemplification

The $SO(N)$ Yang-Mills gauge theory is concerned since it can be used to explore the new theory beyond the standard model of particle physics and the higher dimensional loop quantum gravity. The canonical formulation and loop quantization of $SO(N)$ Yang-Mills theory suggest a discrete $SO(N)$ holonomy-flux phase space, and the properties of the critical quantum algebras in the loop quantized $SO(N)$ Yang-Mills theory are encoded in the symplectic structure of this $SO(N)$ holonomy-flux phase space. With the $SO(D+1)$ loop quantum gravity as an exemplification of loop quantized $SO(N)$ Yang-Mills gauge theory, we introduce a new parametrization of the $SO(D+1)$ holonomy-flux phase space in this paper. Moreover, the symplectic structure of the $SO(D+1)$ holonomy-flux phase space are analyzed in terms of the parametrization variables. Comparing to the Poisson algebras among the $SO(D+1)$ holonomy-flux variables, it is shown that the Poisson algebras among the parametrization variables take a clearer formulation, i.e., the Lie algebras of $so(D+1)$ and the Poisson algebras between angle-length pairs.

The weak coupling theory of all dimensional loop quantum gravity

The weak coupling loop quantum theory with Abelian gauge group provides us a new perspective to study the weak coupling properties of LQG. In this paper, the weak coupling theory of all dimensional loop quantum gravity is established based on a symplectic-morphism between the $SO(D+1)$ holonomy-flux phase space and the $U(1)^{\frac{D(D+1)}{2}}$ holonomy-flux phase space. More explicitly, the Gaussian, simplicity, diffeomorphism and scalar constraint operators in $SO(D+1)$ loop quantum gravity will be generalized to the $U(1)^{\frac{D(D+1)}{2}}$ loop quantum theory based on the symplectic-morphism, and the $U(1)^{\frac{D(D+1)}{2}}$ loop quantum theory equipped with these constraint operators gives the weak coupling $U(1)^{\frac{D(D+1)}{2}}$ loop quantum gravity, with the corresponding Hilbert space is composed by the $U(1)^{\frac{D(D+1)}{2}}$ heat-kernel coherent states which are peaked at the weak coupling region of the $U(1)^{\frac{D(D+1)}{2}}$ holonomy-flux phase space.

On the gauge reduction with respect to simplicity constraint in all dimensional loop quantum gravity

In this paper, we are going to discuss the gauge reduction with respect to the simplicity constraint in both classical and quantum theory of all dimensional loop quantum gravity. With the gauge reduction with respect to edge-simplicity constraint being proceeded and the anomalous vertex simplicity constraint being imposed weakly in holonomy-flux phase space, the simplicity reduced holonomy can be established. However, we find that the simplicity reduced holonomy can not capture the degrees of freedom of intrinsic curvature, which leads that it fails to construct a correct scalar constraint operator in all dimensional LQG following the standard strategy. To tackle this problem, we establish a new type of holonomy corresponding to the simplicity reduced connection, which captures the degrees of freedom of both intrinsic and extrinsic curvature properly. Based on this new type of holonomy, we propose three new strategies to construct the scalar constraint operators, which serve as valuable candidates to study the dynamics of all dimensional LQG in the future.

The thermodynamics of isolated horizons in loop quantum gravity

The statistical mechanical calculation of the thermodynamical properties of non-rotating isolated horizons are studied in the loop quantum gravity framework. By employing the Hawking temperature and horizon mass of isolated horizons as physical inputs, the microcanonical ensemble associated with the system are well established. As a result, the black hole entropy and other thermodynamical quantities can be computed and consistent with well-known Hawking's semiclassical analysis. Moreover, the value of the Immirzi parameter of loop quantum gravity for {higher dimensional case and 4-dimensional U(1) case are} also obtained.

Twisted geometry coherent states in all dimensional loop quantum gravity: II. Ehrenfest Property

In the preceding paper of this series of articles we constructed the twisted geometry coherent states in all dimensional loop quantum gravity and established their peakedness properties. In this paper we establish the "Ehrenfest property" of these coherent states which are labelled by the twisted geometry parameters. By this we mean that the expectation values of the polynomials of the elementary operators as well as the operators which are not polynomial functions of the elementary operators, reproduce, to zeroth order in $\hbar$, the values of the corresponding classical functions at the twisted geometry space point where the coherent state is peaked.

The effective dynamics of weak coupling loop quantum gravity

By taking the limit that Newton's Gravitational constant tends to zero, the weak coupling loop quantum gravity can be formulated as a $U(1)^3$ gauge theory instead of the original $SU(2)$ gauge theory. In this paper, a parametrization of the $SU(2)$ holonomy-flux variables by the $U(1)^3$ holonomy-flux variables is introduced, and the Hamiltonian operator based on this parametrization is obtained for the weak coupling loop quantum gravity. It is shown that the effective dynamics obtained from the coherent state path integrals in $U(1)^3$ and $SU(2)$ loop quantum gravity respectively are consistent to each other in the weak coupling limit, provided that the expectation values of the Hamiltonian operators on the coherent states in these two theories coincide with their classical expressions respectively.

Twisted geometry coherent states in all dimensional loop quantum gravity: I. Construction and Peakedness properties

A new family of coherent states for all dimensional loop quantum gravity are proposed, which is based on the generalized twisted geometry parametrization of the phase space of $SO(D+1)$ connection theory. We prove that this family of coherent states provide an over-complete basis of the Hilbert space in which edge simplicity constraint is solved. Moreover, according to our explicit calculation, the expectation values of holonomy and flux operators with respect to this family of coherent states coincide with the corresponding classical values given by the labels of the coherent states, up to some gauge degrees of freedom. Besides, we study the peakedness properties of this family of coherent states, including the peakedness of the wave functions of this family of coherent states in holonomy, momentum and phase space representations. It turns out that the peakedness in these various representations and the (relative) uncertainty of the expectation values of the operators are well controlled by the semi-classical parameter $t$. Therefore, this family of coherent states provide a candidate for the semi-classical analysis of all dimensional loop quantum gravity.

Superposition type coherent states in all dimensional loop quantum gravity

We propose a new kind of coherent state for the general $SO(D+1)$ formulation of loop quantum gravity in the $(1+D)$-dimensional space-time. Instead of Thiemann's coherent state for $SO(D+1)$ gauge theory, our coherent spin-network state is given by constructing proper superposition over quantum numbers of the spin-networks with vertices labelled by the coherent intertwiners. Such superposition type coherent states are labelled by the so-called generalized twisted geometric variables which capture the geometric meaning of discretized general relativity. We study the basic properties of this kind of coherent states, i.e., the completeness and peakedness property. Moreover, we show that the superposition type coherent states are consistent with Thiemann's coherent state for $SO(D+1)$ gauge theory in large $\eta$ limit.

Loop quantum gravity and cosmological constant

An one-parameter regularization freedom of the Hamiltonian constraint for loop quantum gravity is analyzed. The corresponding spatially flat, homogenous and isotropic model includes the two well-known models of loop quantum cosmology as special cases. The quantum bounce nature is tenable in the generalized cases. For positive value of the regularization parameter, the effective Hamiltonian leads to an asymptotic de-Sitter branch of the Universe connecting to the standard Friedmann branch by the quantum bounce. Remarkably, by suitably choosing the value of the regularization parameter, the observational cosmological constant can emerge at large volume limit from the effect of quantum gravity, and the effective Newtonian constant satisfies the experimental restrictions in the meantime.

Geometric parametrization of $SO(D+1)$ phase space of all dimensional loop quantum gravity

To clarify the geometric information encoded in the $SO(D+1)$ spin-network states for the higher dimensional loop quantum gravity, we generalize the twisted-geometry parametrization of the $SU(2)$ phase space for $(1+3)$ dimensional loop quantum gravity to that of the $SO(D+1)$ phase space for the all-dimensional case. The Poisson structure in terms of the twisted geometric variables suggests a new gauge reduction procedure, with respect to the discretized Gaussian and simplicity constraints governing the kinematics of the theory. Endowed with the geometric meaning via the parametrization, our reduction procedure serves to identify proper gauge freedom associated with the anomalous discretized simplicity constraints and subsequently leads to the desired classical state space of the (twisted) discrete ADM data.

Energy conditions in new model of loop quantum cosmology

Recently, a de-Sitter epoch has been found in the new model of loop quantum cosmology which is governed by the scalar constraint with both of Euclidean and Lorentz terms. The singularity free bounce in the new LQC model and the emergent cosmology constant strongly suggest that the effective stress energy tensor induced by quantum corrections must violate the standard energy conditions. In this paper, we do an explicit calculation to analyze the behaviours of specific representative energy conditions, i.e., average null, strong and dominant energy conditions. It turns out that the averaging null energy condition is violated while the dominant energy condition is violated only at a period around the bounce point. More specifically, the strong energy condition is violated not only at a period around the bounce point, but also the whole period from the bounce point to the classical phase corresponding to the de Sitter period. Our results is expected to shed some lights on construction of the wormhole and time machine which usually need exotic matters violate energy conditions.

Polytopes in all dimensional loop quantum gravity

The Lasserre's reconstruction algorithm is extended to the D-polytopes with the construction of their shape space. Thus, the areas of d-skeletons $(1\leq d\leq D)$ can be expressed as functions of the areas and normal bi-vectors of the (D-1)-faces of D-polytopes. As weak solutions of the simplicity constraints in all dimensional loop quantum gravity, the simple coherent intertwiners are employed to describe semiclassical D-polytopes. New general geometric operators based on D-polytopes are proposed by using the Lasserre's reconstruction algorithm and the coherent intertwiners. Such kind of geometric operators have expected semiclassical property by the definition. The consistent semiclassical limit with respect to the semiclassical D-polytopes can be obtained for the usual D-volume operator in all dimensional loop quantum gravity by fixing its undetermined regularization factor case by case.
