Search for the reaction channel $e^+ e^- \to ηη\,J/ψ$ and the isospin partner of the $Z_c(3900)$ at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s} = 4.226-4.950$ GeV

We search for the reaction channel $e^+ e^- \to ηη\,J/ψ$ in a data sample with center-of-mass energies from 4.226 to 4.950 GeV that was collected by the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII). The data analysis is performed with two different reconstruction methods, exclusive and semi-inclusive, enabling a comparison and combination of the results. Only at a few energy points a non-zero cross section is observed with a statistical significance of more than 3$σ$ using one of the methods. Therefore, the corresponding upper limits of the cross section at the 90% confidence level are determined. The energy dependent results show clear deviations from the the line shape expected from three-body phase space alone. Since the statistical significance for almost all center-of-mass energies is low, the upper limits for the reaction channel $e^+ e^- \to ηη\,J/ψ$ also serve as limits for the existence of a possible isospin partner to the charmonium-like isospin triplet $Z_{\rm c}(3900)$ which decays to $J/ψη$.

Exploring baryon semi-leptonic decays through polarization and entanglement

The unitarity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix is a cornerstone of the Standard Model (SM). Precise tests of this unitarity require independent determinations of its elements, such as $|V_{us}|$, which governs the transition between strange and up quarks. Current measurements from kaon and tau decays show tensions that may hint at physics beyond the SM. Hyperon semi-leptonic decays provide alternative probes, but have remained largely untapped because previous experiments lacked sufficient kinematic information, rendering the measurements insensitive to the relevant form factors. Here we report measurements of the axial-vector and weak-magnetism couplings, as well as the first determinations of the absolute branching fraction and weak-electricity coupling in $Λ\to p e^{-}\barν_e$, achieved by exploiting the polarization and quantum entanglement of $Λ\barΛ$ pairs produced at the $J/ψ$ resonance. Combining our results with recent lattice Quantum Chromodynamics calculations gives $|V_{us}|_{\rm LQCD}=0.2339\pm0.0041$, a model-independent determination consistent with CKM unitarity. By pioneering the exploitation of polarization and quantum entanglement in baryon semi-leptonic decays, our method enhances single-event sensitivity and it is broadly applicable to other baryon semi-leptonic decays, establishing the foundation for a systematic research program that can achieve precision comparable to that of kaon decays and provide a stringent independent test of the SM.

Measurement of the $Λ$ Electric Dipole Moment with an Entangled Baryon-Antibaryon System

The dominance of matter over antimatter in the universe has consistently driven the pursuit of new physics beyond the Standard Model that violates charge-parity symmetry. Strange baryons (hyperons) remain a largely unexplored territory in which interactions between hyperons and particles from new physics could induce a nontrivial electric dipole moment (EDM). However, direct measurements of hyperon EDMs through spin precession are highly challenging owing to their short lifetimes. In this work, we introduce a method to extract the EDM of the lightest hyperon, $Λ$, using the entangled $Λ$$\overlineΛ$ system. Our result is consistent with zero, achieving a three-orders-of-magnitude improvement over the previous upper limit established in the 1980s with comparable statistics, providing stringent constraints on potential new physics.

Real-Time Wiener Deconvolution for feature reconstruction in JUNO

In particle physics, experiments generate substantial amounts of data that can be difficult to process without preliminary scaling. To avoid losing potentially crucial data, experimental collaborations are studying novel techniques for real-time data processing to extract features for further physics analysis. A common approach, especially in neutrino physics, is to use FPGAs for data acquisition and pre-processing. This paper presents an advanced Real-Time Wiener deconvolution algorithm designed to leverage the processing capabilities of the FPGA integrated into the readout boards of the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO). The goal is to enable real-time reconstruction of the signal generated by photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) when neutrino interactions are detected. By exploiting online reconstruction of the signal generated by PMTs, we expect to improve the detection of low-energy depositions, such as those produced by transient astrophysical phenomena. These depositions are usually not saved because of the significant background that affects the low end of the energy spectrum, which would result in a large trigger rate, hence a large amount of data required for storage. This paper presents the features of the algorithm, including its ability to manage high-throughput data streams with minimal latency, adaptability, and resilience in discerning the characteristics of input data. Performance is evaluated on a JUNO electronic board. This study further demonstrates the potential of FPGA-based solutions for neutrino physics.

First Observation of $D^{0(+)}\to \bar Kωe^+ν_e$ and Determination of the Branching Fraction of $\bar K_1(1270)\to \bar K ω$

Using 20.3~fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the first observation of the semileptonic decays \mbox{$D^0\to K^-ωe^+ν_e$} and \mbox{$D^+\to K_S^0ωe^+ν_e$} with significances of $8.0σ$ and $5.8σ$, respectively. Their decay branching fractions are measured to be ${\cal B}(D^0\to K^-ωe^+ν_e)=(9.4^{+2.0}_{-1.8}\pm 0.6)\times10^{-5}$ and ${\cal B}(D^+\to K_S^0ωe^+ν_e)=(8.0^{+2.4}_{-2.1}\pm 0.7)\times10^{-5}$. Combining these with the latest measurements of $D^{0(+)}\to K^-π^+π^{-(0)} e^+ν_e$ and assuming $\bar{K}_1(1270)$ to be the sole mediating resonance in all processes, the branching ratios are determined to be $\frac{Γ(K_1(1270)^-\to K^-π^+π^-)}{Γ(K_1(1270)^-\to K^-ω)} = 3.4^{+0.8}_{-0.7} \pm 0.3$ and $\frac{Γ(\bar{K}_1(1270)^0\to K^-π^+π^0)}{Γ(\bar{K}_1(1270)^0\to \bar{K}^0ω)} = 7.9^{+2.4}_{-2.1} \pm 0.7$. The combined branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal B(\bar{K}_1(1270)\to \bar{K}ω) = (8.4\pm 1.4 \pm 0.5)\%$, which is the most precise measurement from a collider experiment. Furthermore, %based on the $\bar{K}π^+π^-π^0$ invariant mass spectra, for the first time based on a single vector-pseudoscalar decay channel, the $\bar{K}_1(1270)$ mass is measured to be $(1336 \pm 9 \pm 2)$~MeV/$c^2$, providing unique experimental support for the two-pole structure of the $\bar{K}_1(1270)$ resonance. The first uncertainties are statistical, and the second are systematic.

Production and Decay Dynamics of the Charmed Baryon $Λ_c^+$ in $e^+e^-$ Annihilations near Threshold

The study of the charmed baryons is crucial for investigating the strong and weak interactions in the standard model and for gaining insights into the internal structure of baryons. In an $e^+e^-$ experiment the lightest charmed baryon, $Λ_c^+$, can be produced in pairs through the single-photon annihilation process. This process can be described by two complex electromagnetic form factors. The presence of a nonzero relative phase between these form factors gives rise to a transverse polarization of the charmed baryon and provides additional constraints on the dynamic parameters in the decays. In this article, we present the first observation of the transverse polarization of $Λ_{c}^{+}$ in the reaction $e^+e^- \to Λ_c^{+}\barΛ_c^-$, based on $6.4~\text{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies between $4600$~MeV and $4951$~MeV with the BESIII detector. The decay asymmetry parameters in the decays $Λ_c^+ \to pK_S^0$, $Λπ^+$, $Σ^0π^+$, and $Σ^+π^0$ are simultaneously extracted from the joint angular distributions. By independently extracting the above parameters for the process and its $C\!P$-conjugate counterpart, we derive both the strong and weak phase differences between different partial waves, and test several $C\!P$ observables. The obtained results fully demonstrate the feasibility of exploiting transverse polarization at electron-positron colliders to search for $C\!P$-violating effects, opening up a new avenue for exploring $C\!P$ violation in the charmed baryon sector.

Measurement of branching fractions of $D^+_s\to K^0_SK^0_S π^+π^0$ and $D^+_s\to K^0_S K^+π^0π^0$

By analyzing $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33~fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.128 to 4.226~GeV, we report the observations of the hadronic decays $D^+_s\to K^0_SK^0_Sπ^+π^0$ and $D^+_s\to K^0_S K^+π^0π^0$. Their decay branching fractions are determined to be ${\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to K^0_SK^0_S π^+π^0)=(4.08\pm0.46_{\rm stat}\pm0.45_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-3}$ and ${\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to K^0_S K^+π^0π^0)=(3.32\pm0.64_{\rm stat}\pm0.31_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-3}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Amplitude Analysis of Singly Cabibbo-Suppressed Decay $Λ^{+}_{c}\to p K^{+} K^{-}$

Using a sample of $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.4 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider and produced at center-of-mass energies from $4600$ to $4698~\rm{MeV}$, an amplitude analysis is performed of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ^{+}_{c}\to pK^{+}K^{-}$. The branching fractions of $Λ^{+}_{c}\to pϕ(1020)$, $pf_{0}(980)$, $Λ(1405)K^{+}$, and $Λ(1670)K^{+}$ are measured, where the latter two modes are decays that are observed for the first time. At the same time, with the detection efficiency based on the results of the amplitude analysis, the branching fraction of $Λ^{+}_{c}\to pK^{+}K^{-}$ is updated to be $(9.94\pm0.65_{\text{stat.}}\pm0.50_{\text{syst.}})\times10^{-4}$, which is consistent with the current world average value within one standard deviation. The result supersedes the previous BESIII measurement with precision improved by approximately a factor of 1.5.

Measurement of Branching Fraction and Transition Magnetic Moment of the Hyperon Dalitz Decay $Σ^0 \rightarrow Λe^+e^-$

Based on a data sample of 10 billion $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, the Dalitz decay $Σ^0 \rightarrow Λe^+e^-$ is studied experimentally for the first time. The $Σ^0$ hyperons are produced through the process $J/ψ\rightarrow Σ^0\barΣ^0$ and analyzed using a double-tag method. The absolute branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(Σ^0 \rightarrow Λe^+e^-) = (6.34 \pm 0.25_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.23_{\rm syst.}) \times 10^{-3}$. This result shows a $2σ$ discrepancy from the theoretical calculation quoted in the PDG, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In addition to the branching fraction, the transition magnetic moment $μ$ is determined to be $(1.74 \pm 0.03_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.09_{\rm syst.})\,μ_N$, where $μ_N=e/(2m_p)$ represents the nucleon magnetic moment, providing valuable insight into the intrinsic structure of the $Σ^0$ hyperon.

Observation of $Λ^+_c\to nπ^+η$ and search for $Λ^+_c\to na_0(980)^+$

By analysing 6.1 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of data collected at center-of-mass energies between $\sqrt{s}=4.600$ and 4.843 $\rm GeV$ with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we observe the decay $Λ_c^+\to nπ^+η$ for the first time with a statistical significance of $9.5σ$. The ratio of branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to nπ^+η)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to Λπ^+η)$ is measured to be $0.155\pm0.031_{\rm stat.}\pm0.012_{\rm syst.}$ Taking the world average of $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to Λπ^+η)$ as reference, the absolute branching fraction is calculated to be $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to nπ^+η)=(2.94\pm0.59_{\rm stat.}\pm0.23_{\rm syst.}\pm0.13_{\rm ref.})\times10^{-3}$. The intermediate process $Λ_c^+\to na_0(980)^+$ is also searched for in the $π^+η$ invariant mass spectrum. Since no significant signal is found, the upper limit on $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to na_0(980)^+)\times\mathcal{B}(a_0(980)^+\toπ^+η)$ is set to $8.4\times10^{-4}$ at 90\% confidence level. A sophisticated deep learning approach using a Transformer-based architecture is employed to distinguish signals from prevalent hadronic backgrounds, complemented by thorough validation and systematic uncertainty quantification.

First energy scan measurement of $e^{+}e^{-}\to K^{+}K^{-}$ around the $ψ(2S)$ resonance

We report the precise energy scan measurement of the cross section lineshape of $ψ(2S)\to K^{+}K^{-}$. The analysis is based on $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 495~pb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII. By analyzing the cross section line-shape, we extract the relative phase $Φ$ between the strong and electromagnetic amplitudes of the $ψ(2S)$ resonance, a fundamental parameter in charmonium physics, based on the assumption that the relative phase between the electromagnetic amplitude of the $ψ(2S)$ resonance and the continuum is zero. Two distinct solutions for the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}$ of $ψ(2S)\to K^{+}K^{-}$ are observed: a constructive interference solution with $\mathcal{B}=(7.49\pm0.41)\times10^{-5}$ and $Φ=(110.1 \pm6.7)^\circ$, and a destructive interference solution with $\mathcal{B}=(10.94\pm0.48)\times10^{-5}$ and $Φ=(-106.8\pm5.7)^\circ$. A significant correlation between $Φ$ and $\mathcal{B}$ is established, demonstrating that interference effects must be taken into account in the $ψ(2S)$ branching fraction measurements. Additionally, the first results for both the $ψ(2S)$ strong form factor, which characterizes the strong coupling between $ψ(2S)$ and $K^{+}K^{-}$, and the energy-dependent electromagnetic form factor of the charged kaon in this energy region are reported.

Measurement of the double Dalitz decay $η\to e^+e^-e^+e^-$

Using a data sample of $(1.0087 \pm 0.0044) \times {10^{10}}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we study the rare double Dalitz decay of $η\rightarrow e^+e^-e^+e^-$ through the processes $J/ψ\rightarrow γη$ and $J/ψ\rightarrow γη' ,η' \to π^+π^-η$. Clear $η$ signals are observed in the $e^+e^-e^+e^-$ invariant mass spectrum, with statistical significances of 5.9$σ$ and 7.8$σ$ for the two channels, respectively. By combining both modes, we determine the branching fraction of $η\rightarrow e^+ e^- e^+ e^-$ to be $(2.63~\pm~0.34_{\rm stat}~\pm~0.16_{\rm syst}) \times10^{-5}$. The result is consistent with the previous measurements within uncertainties and further constrains physics beyond the standard model.

Ultra-trace analysis of 40K in organic liquid scintillators

Rare-event searches require exceptionally low background levels, motivating the development of increasingly sophisticated screening methods to push sensitivity limits. Liquid scintillators are particularly attractive detector media due to their intrinsic radiopurity and the ability to scale to large target masses. In this work, we present a screening strategy capable of measuring ultra-trace concentrations of $^{40}\text{K}$ with sensitivities below $10^{-15}$g/g. The method combines neutron activation analysis with a dedicated radiochemical treatment, followed by low-background HPGe gamma spectroscopy. Using this approach, we achieved a minimum detectable concentration of $2.9\cdot10^{-16}$g/g for $^{40}\text{K}$, placing this technique among the most sensitive currently available.

Search for an isoscalar partner of the $Z_c(3900)$ in $e^+e^-\toπ^+π^-ηJ/ψ$

Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ collected at center-of-mass energies from 4.18 to 4.95 GeV with the BESIII detector, we observe the process $e^+e^-\toπ^+π^-ηJ/ψ$ with a statistical significance of $6.0 σ$, including systematic uncertainties. The isoscalar partner of the $Z_c(3900)$, denoted $X(3900)$, is searched for in the $ηJ/ψ$ final state, and no significant signal is observed. The upper limits on the product of the Born cross section $σ^{\rm Born}[e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-} X(3900)$] and the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}[X(3900)\toηJ/ψ]$ are given with various assumptions for the mass and width of the $X(3900)$.

Observation of $Ξ(1530)^0$ Polarization and Determination of Its Electric and Magnetic Moments in $ψ(3686)\toΞ(1530)^0\barΞ(1530)^0$

Using the data sample of $2.7\times10^9$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we present an observation of the $Ξ(1530)^0$ polarization in the decay $ψ(3686)\toΞ(1530)^0\barΞ(1530)^0$ with a significance larger than $20σ$ compared with all other tested hypotheses. Search for the charged lepton flavor violating decay $η\to e^{\pm}μ^{\mp}$

No signal is observed, and an upper limit on the branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(η\to e^{\pm}μ^{\mp}) < 6.8 \times 10^{-7}$ at the 90\% confidence level. This result improves the previous best limit by one order of magnitude.

Observation of an Altered $a_{0}(980)$ Line shape in $D^{+} \rightarrow π^{+}ηη$

Using $20.3~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at $\sqrt{s}=3.773~{\rm GeV}$, we perform the first amplitude analysis of the decay $D^+\toπ^+ηη$. The intermediate process $D^+\to a_0(980)^+η$, $a_0(980)^+\toπ^+η$, is observed as the only significant component in the amplitude analysis, and its branching fraction is measured to be $(3.67\pm0.12_{\rm stat}\pm0.06_{\rm syst})\times10^{-3}$. The $π^+η$ mass spectrum associated with $a_0(980)^+η$ production exhibits a line shape that differs substantially from those observed in $D_{(s)}\to a_0(980)π$ and $D^0\to a_0(980)^-e^+ν_e$ decays. We examine several conventional descriptions of the $a_0(980)$ amplitude, including Flatté, dispersively modified Flatté, $T$-matrix, and $K$-matrix parameterizations. With reference $a_0(980)$ parameters, neither these models nor their extensions including additional small resonant or non-resonant amplitudes reproduce the observed line shape satisfactorily. When the $a_0(980)$ parameters are allowed to float, satisfactory fits can be obtained, but the pole mass is driven well above the $K\bar K$ threshold, inconsistent with the near-threshold character of the $a_0(980)$. The results reveal a tension between fit quality and the physical pole position in conventional direct-production amplitude models.
