Deterministic control of the probabilistic phase dynamics in injection-locked spin-torque nano-oscillators

Spin-torque nano-oscillators (STNOs) inherently exhibit thermally driven phase fluctuations that render their dynamics truly stochastic. Here, we demonstrate that, despite this intrinsic randomness, the probability of occupying each phase state can be deterministically and continuously programmed. We experimentally investigate a vortex-based STNO operating under second-harmonic injection-locking, where the oscillator phase settles into two degenerate attractors separated by $\pi$ and undergoes thermally activated phase jumps. By applying a weak radio-frequency perturbation at the free-running frequency, we tune the phase-jump rates between the two attractors without suppressing the fluctuations, achieving continuous probability control from the unbiased limit to values approaching 0 or 1. The bias phase selects which attractor is favored while the bias amplitude sets the strength of the imbalance, providing two complementary control knobs within a single nanoscale device. A phase-reduced description based on an effective quasipotential quantitatively accounts for the observations. These results establish injection-locked STNOs as programmable stochastic elements and provide a hardware primitive for probabilistic computing, Ising machines, and brain-inspired computing architectures.

Multiplexed cryo-CMOS control of an isolated double quantum dot

Scalable spin-based quantum computing demands precise and stable control of a large number of gate-defined quantum dots while minimizing wiring complexity and thermal load. Control architectures based on sample-and-hold (SH) multiplexing techniques offer a promising solution by enabling sequential programming of several gate voltages using a limited number of input lines. However, the compatibility of such dynamic voltage refreshing with the stringent stability, noise, and speed requirements of quantum dot operation is an active subject of study. Here we experimentally demonstrate that a multiplexing cryo-CMOS circuit can reliably bias a silicon double quantum dot (DQD) at 0.5K. Exploiting the isolated regime, we show deterministic loading and isolation of four electrons and stable access to all five charge configurations from (4,0) to (0,4), despite the sequential voltage refreshing. We further demonstrate rapid voltage pulsing across an inter-dot transition, resolving single-electron tunneling events and stochastic switching at the (1,3)-(0,4) transition. These results confirm that SH-based multiplexed control is compatible with both static biasing and pulsing of isolated quantum dots, representing an important milestone toward scalable cryogenic control architectures for large-scale spin-qubit processors.

Compact frequency multiplexed readout of silicon quantum dots in monolithic FDSOI 28nm technology

This paper demonstrates the first on-chip frequency multiplexed readout of two co-integrated single-electron transistors without the need for bulky resonators. We characterize single electron dynamics in both single electron transistors at 4.2K before validating their simultaneous readout within 2.2{\mu}s, achieving a 99.9% fidelity with a 1MHz frequency spacing. This experimental demonstration paves the way towards resonator-free large-scale quantum-classical architectures that would be required for future universal and reprogrammable quantum computers.

An Ultra-low Power RNN Classifier for Always-On Voice Wake-Up Detection Robust to Real-World Scenarios

We present in this paper an ultra-low power (ULP) Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) based classifier for an always-on voice Wake-Up Sensor (WUS) with performances suitable for real-world applications. The purpose of our sensor is to bring down by at least a factor 100 the power consumption in background noise of always-on speech processing algorithms such as Automatic Speech Recognition, Keyword Spotting, Speaker Verification, etc. Unlike the other published approaches, we designed our wake-up sensor to be robust to unseen real-world noises for realistic levels of speech and noise by carefully designing the dataset and the loss function. We also specifically trained it to mark only the speech start rather than adopting a traditional Voice Activity Detection (VAD) approach. We achieve less than 3% No Trigger Rate (NTR) for a duty cycle less than 1% in challenging background noises pooled using a model of an analogue front-end. We demonstrate the superiority of RNNs on this task compared to the other tested approaches, with an estimated power consumption of 45 nW for the RNN itself in 65nm CMOS and a minimal memory footprint of 0.52 kB.
