A functional inequalities approach for the field-road diffusion model with (symmetric) nonlinear exchanges

In this note, we consider the so-called field-road diffusion model in a bounded domain, consisting of two parabolic PDEs posed on sets of different dimensions and coupled through (symmetric) nonlinear exchange terms. We propose a new and rather direct functional inequalities approach to prove the exponential decay of a relative entropy, and thus the convergence of the solution towards the stationary state selected by the total mass of the initial datum.

Finite Volume Approximations for Non-Linear Parabolic Problems with Stochastic Forcing

We propose a two-point flux approximation finite-volume scheme for a stochastic non-linear parabolic equation with a multiplicative noise. The time discretization is implicit except for the stochastic noise term in order to be compatible with stochastic integration in the sense of It\^{o}. We show existence and uniqueness of solutions to the scheme and the appropriate measurability for stochastic integration follows from the uniqueness of approximate solutions.

Convergence of a finite-volume scheme for a heat equation with a multiplicative Lipschitz noise

We study here the approximation by a finite-volume scheme of a heat equation forced by a Lipschitz continuous multiplicative noise in the sense of It\^o. More precisely, we consider a discretization which is semi-implicit in time and a two-point flux approximation scheme (TPFA) in space. We adapt the method based on the theorem of Prokhorov to obtain a convergence in distribution result, then Skorokhod's representation theorem yields the convergence of the scheme towards a martingale solution and the Gy\"{o}ngy-Krylov argument is used to prove convergence in probability of the scheme towards the unique variational solution of our parabolic problem.

Finite Volume approximation of a two-phase two fluxes degenerate Cahn-Hilliard model

We study a time implicit Finite Volume scheme for degenerate Cahn-Hilliard model proposed in [W. E and P. Palffy-Muhoray. Phys. Rev. E, 55:R3844-R3846, 1997] and studied mathematically by the authors in [C. Canc\`es, D. Matthes, and F. Nabet. Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal., 233(2):837-866, 2019]. The scheme is shown to preserve the key properties of the continuous model, namely mass conservation, positivity of the concentrations, the decay of the energy and the control of the entropy dissipation rate. This allows to establish the existence of a solution to the nonlinear algebraic system corresponding to the scheme. Further, we show thanks to compactness arguments that the approximate solution converges towards a weak solution of the continuous problems as the discretization parameters tend to $0$. Numerical results illustrate the behavior of the numerical model.

A two-phase two-fluxes degenerate Cahn-Hilliard model as constrained Wasserstein gradient flow

We study a non-local version of the Cahn-Hilliard dynamics for phase separation in a two-component incompressible and immiscible mixture with linear mobilities. In difference to the celebrated local model with nonlinear mobility, it is only assumed that the divergences of the two fluxes --- but not necessarily the fluxes themselves --- annihilate each other. Our main result is a rigorous proof of existence of weak solutions. The starting point is the formal representation of the dynamics as a constrained gradient flow in the Wasserstein metric. We then show that time-discrete approximations by means of the incremental minimizing movement scheme converge to a weak solution in the limit. Further, we compare the non-local model to the classical Cahn-Hilliard model in numerical experiments. Our results illustrate the significant speed-up in the decay of the free energy due to the higher degree of freedom for the velocity fields.
