jina-reranker-v3: Last but Not Late Interaction for Listwise Document Reranking

jina-reranker-v3 is a 0.6B-parameter multilingual listwise reranker that introduces a novel "last but not late" interaction. Unlike late interaction models like ColBERT that encode documents separately before multi-vector matching, our approach applies causal attention between the query and all candidate documents in the same context window, enabling rich interactions before extracting contextual embeddings from each document's final token. The new model achieves state-of-the-art BEIR performance with 61.94 nDCG@10 while being significantly smaller than other models with comparable performance.

QGFace: Quality-Guided Joint Training For Mixed-Quality Face Recognition

The quality of a face crop in an image is decided by many factors such as camera resolution, distance, and illumination condition. This makes the discrimination of face images with different qualities a challenging problem in realistic applications. However, most existing approaches are designed specifically for high-quality (HQ) or low-quality (LQ) images, and the performances would degrade for the mixed-quality images. Besides, many methods ask for pre-trained feature extractors or other auxiliary structures to support the training and the evaluation. In this paper, we point out that the key to better understand both the HQ and the LQ images simultaneously is to apply different learning methods according to their qualities. We propose a novel quality-guided joint training approach for mixed-quality face recognition, which could simultaneously learn the images of different qualities with a single encoder. Based on quality partition, classification-based method is employed for HQ data learning. Meanwhile, for the LQ images which lack identity information, we learn them with self-supervised image-image contrastive learning. To effectively catch up the model update and improve the discriminability of contrastive learning in our joint training scenario, we further propose a proxy-updated real-time queue to compose the contrastive pairs with features from the genuine encoder. Experiments on the low-quality datasets SCface and Tinyface, the mixed-quality dataset IJB-B, and five high-quality datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach in recognizing face images of different qualities.

Quantum Path Control in High-Order Harmonic Generation via Squeezed Lights

High-order harmonic generation (HHG), a robust tabletop source for producing attosecond pulses, has been extensively utilized in attosecond metrology. Traditionally, HHG driven by classical laser fields involves two typical quantum paths (short and long quantum paths) contributing to harmonic emission. Here, we demonstrate that these quantum paths in HHG can be selectively controlled using squeezed lights, a form of non-classical light. Our results indicate that the long (short) quantum path of HHG will be dramatically suppressed in the phase (amplitude)-squeezed fields. The time-frequency analysis reveals that this quantum path control stems from the quantum fluctuations in the squeezed light, which modify the phase matching of harmonic emission from different quantum states of the squeezed light. Such a quantum path selection can be achieved for the whole harmonic plateau, which has great potential to generate ultrashort isolated attosecond pulse with duration less than one atomic unit of time.

Wan-Animate: Unified Character Animation and Replacement with Holistic Replication

We introduce Wan-Animate, a unified framework for character animation and replacement. Given a character image and a reference video, Wan-Animate can animate the character by precisely replicating the expressions and movements of the character in the video to generate high-fidelity character videos. Alternatively, it can integrate the animated character into the reference video to replace the original character, replicating the scene's lighting and color tone to achieve seamless environmental integration. Wan-Animate is built upon the Wan model. To adapt it for character animation tasks, we employ a modified input paradigm to differentiate between reference conditions and regions for generation. This design unifies multiple tasks into a common symbolic representation. We use spatially-aligned skeleton signals to replicate body motion and implicit facial features extracted from source images to reenact expressions, enabling the generation of character videos with high controllability and expressiveness. Furthermore, to enhance environmental integration during character replacement, we develop an auxiliary Relighting LoRA. This module preserves the character's appearance consistency while applying the appropriate environmental lighting and color tone. Experimental results demonstrate that Wan-Animate achieves state-of-the-art performance. We are committed to open-sourcing the model weights and its source code.

MiniCPM4: Ultra-Efficient LLMs on End Devices

This paper introduces MiniCPM4, a highly efficient large language model (LLM) designed explicitly for end-side devices. We achieve this efficiency through systematic innovation in four key dimensions: model architecture, training data, training algorithms, and inference systems. Specifically, in terms of model architecture, we propose InfLLM v2, a trainable sparse attention mechanism that accelerates both prefilling and decoding phases for long-context processing. Regarding training data, we propose UltraClean, an efficient and accurate pre-training data filtering and generation strategy, and UltraChat v2, a comprehensive supervised fine-tuning dataset. These datasets enable satisfactory model performance to be achieved using just 8 trillion training tokens. Regarding training algorithms, we propose ModelTunnel v2 for efficient pre-training strategy search, and improve existing post-training methods by introducing chunk-wise rollout for load-balanced reinforcement learning and data-efficient tenary LLM, BitCPM. Regarding inference systems, we propose CPM.cu that integrates sparse attention, model quantization, and speculative sampling to achieve efficient prefilling and decoding. To meet diverse on-device requirements, MiniCPM4 is available in two versions, with 0.5B and 8B parameters, respectively. Furthermore, we construct a hybrid reasoning model, MiniCPM4.1, which can be used in both deep reasoning mode and non-reasoning mode. Evaluation results demonstrate that MiniCPM4 and MiniCPM4.1 outperform similar-sized open-source models across benchmarks, with the 8B variants showing significant speed improvements on long sequence understanding and generation.

FinS-Pilot: A Benchmark for Online Financial RAG System

Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable capabilities across various professional domains, with their performance typically evaluated through standardized benchmarks. In the financial field, the stringent demands for professional accuracy and real-time data processing often necessitate the use of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques. However, the development of financial RAG benchmarks has been constrained by data confidentiality issues and the lack of dynamic data integration. To address this issue, we introduce FinS-Pilot, a novel benchmark for evaluating RAG systems in online financial applications. Constructed from real-world financial assistant interactions, our benchmark incorporates both real-time API data and text data, organized through an intent classification framework covering critical financial domains. The benchmark enables comprehensive evaluation of financial assistants' capabilities in handling both static knowledge and time-sensitive market information.Through systematic experiments with multiple Chinese leading LLMs, we demonstrate FinS-Pilot's effectiveness in identifying models suitable for financial applications while addressing the current gap in specialized evaluation tools for the financial domain. Our work contributes both a practical evaluation framework and a curated dataset to advance research in financial NLP systems. The code and dataset are accessible on GitHub.

RadGS-Reg: Registering Spine CT with Biplanar X-rays via Joint 3D Radiative Gaussians Reconstruction and 3D/3D Registration

Computed Tomography (CT)/X-ray registration in image-guided navigation remains challenging because of its stringent requirements for high accuracy and real-time performance. Traditional "render and compare" methods, relying on iterative projection and comparison, suffer from spatial information loss and domain gap. 3D reconstruction from biplanar X-rays supplements spatial and shape information for 2D/3D registration, but current methods are limited by dense-view requirements and struggles with noisy X-rays. To address these limitations, we introduce RadGS-Reg, a novel framework for vertebral-level CT/X-ray registration through joint 3D Radiative Gaussians (RadGS) reconstruction and 3D/3D registration. Specifically, our biplanar X-rays vertebral RadGS reconstruction module explores learning-based RadGS reconstruction method with a Counterfactual Attention Learning (CAL) mechanism, focusing on vertebral regions in noisy X-rays. Additionally, a patient-specific pre-training strategy progressively adapts the RadGS-Reg from simulated to real data while simultaneously learning vertebral shape prior knowledge. Experiments on in-house datasets demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance for both tasks, surpassing existing methods. The code is available at: https://github.com/shenao1995/RadGS_Reg.

Robust Live Streaming over LEO Satellite Constellations: Measurement, Analysis, and Handover-Aware Adaptation

Live streaming has experienced significant growth recently. Yet this rise in popularity contrasts with the reality that a substantial segment of the global population still lacks Internet access. The emergence of Low Earth orbit Satellite Networks (LSNs), such as SpaceX's Starlink and Amazon's Project Kuiper, presents a promising solution to fill this gap. Nevertheless, our measurement study reveals that existing live streaming platforms may not be able to deliver a smooth viewing experience on LSNs due to frequent satellite handovers, which lead to frequent video rebuffering events. Current state-of-the-art learning-based Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) algorithms, even when trained on LSNs' network traces, fail to manage the abrupt network variations associated with satellite handovers effectively. To address these challenges, for the first time, we introduce Satellite-Aware Rate Adaptation (SARA), a versatile and lightweight middleware that can seamlessly integrate with various ABR algorithms to enhance the performance of live streaming over LSNs. SARA intelligently modulates video playback speed and furnishes ABR algorithms with insights derived from the distinctive network characteristics of LSNs, thereby aiding ABR algorithms in making informed bitrate selections and effectively minimizing rebuffering events that occur during satellite handovers. Our extensive evaluation shows that SARA can effectively reduce the rebuffering time by an average of $39.41\%$ and slightly improve latency by $0.65\%$ while only introducing an overall loss in bitrate by $0.13\%$.

Structure-Adaptive Topology Optimization Framework for Photonic Band Gaps with TE-Polarized Sources

Leveraging our structure-adaptive topology optimization framework based on the integration of the photonic density of states over a frequency window for the TM polarization of light [see A. Bahulikar et al., arXiv:2411.09165 (2025)], we show that the $Γ$-point and full Brillouin zone integration schemes can also recover two-dimensional photonic crystals for TE polarization. For the $Γ$-point formalism, we employ the scalar magnetic field formulation of the electromagnetic wave equation with independent sources polarized in the x and y directions. For the full Brillouin zone formalism, we employ the vector electric field formulation of the electromagnetic wave equation, again with independent sources polarized in the x and y directions. This work can simultaneously treat frequency-dependent optical response, allow for targeted optimization for a given frequency and reciprocal lattice vector pair, and inherently encourage binarized designs.

Orbital dependent Coulomb drag in electron-hole bilayer graphene heterostructures

We report Coulomb drag studies in an electron-hole bilayer graphene heterostructure in a magnetic field, where the orbital, spin, and valley degrees of freedom are lifted by the combined effects of exchange interaction, Zeeman energy, and vertical displacement field. Our device enables the application of a large vertical displacement field in both layers. In addition to the well-established strong Coulomb drag between Landau levels with an orbital quantum number N = 0, we observe a Coulomb drag signal between the N = 1 Landau levels under a suitable vertical displacement field. As the displacement field increases further, the Coulomb drag signal between N = 1 Landau levels weakens, and a Coulomb drag signal emerges between the N = 0 and N = 1 Landau levels. These findings suggest the important roles of the orbital index and vertical displacement field in interlayer Coulomb interactions within the quantum Hall regime of coupled bilayer systems.

AnimeColor: Reference-based Animation Colorization with Diffusion Transformers

Animation colorization plays a vital role in animation production, yet existing methods struggle to achieve color accuracy and temporal consistency. To address these challenges, we propose \textbf{AnimeColor}, a novel reference-based animation colorization framework leveraging Diffusion Transformers (DiT). Our approach integrates sketch sequences into a DiT-based video diffusion model, enabling sketch-controlled animation generation. We introduce two key components: a High-level Color Extractor (HCE) to capture semantic color information and a Low-level Color Guider (LCG) to extract fine-grained color details from reference images. These components work synergistically to guide the video diffusion process. Additionally, we employ a multi-stage training strategy to maximize the utilization of reference image color information. Extensive experiments demonstrate that AnimeColor outperforms existing methods in color accuracy, sketch alignment, temporal consistency, and visual quality. Our framework not only advances the state of the art in animation colorization but also provides a practical solution for industrial applications. The code will be made publicly available at \href{https://github.com/IamCreateAI/AnimeColor}{https://github.com/IamCreateAI/AnimeColor}.

On zero-order consistency residue and background pressure for the conservative SPH fluid dynamics

As one of the major challenges for the conservative smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method, the zero-order consistency issue, although thought to be mitigated by the particle regularization scheme, such as the transport velocity formulation, significantly damps the flow in a long channel for both laminar and turbulent simulations. Building on this finding, this paper not only thoroughly analyzes the damping reason in this pressure-driven channel flow, but also relates this problem with the excessive numerical dissipation in the gravity-driven free-surface flow. The common root cause of the non-physical numerical damping in the two typical flow scenarios, the zero-order gradient consistency residue, is exposed. The adverse influence of the background pressure on the residue for the two scenarios is revealed and discussed. To comprehensively understand the behavior of the residue and mitigate its potential adverse effects, we conduct both theoretical analysis and numerical experiments focusing on the key sensitive factors. For studying the residue-induced non-physical energy dissipation in the gravity-driven free-surface flow, the water depth and input dynamic pressure in the inviscid standing wave case are tested. To investigate the velocity loss in the pressure-driven channel flow, we examine the effects of the channel length, resolution, and outlet pressure. The state-of-the-art reverse kernel gradient correction technique is introduced for the two typical flows, and proved to be effective in reducing the residue effect, but we find its correction capability is fundamentally limited. Finally, the FDA nozzle, an engineering benchmark, is tested to demonstrate the residue influence in a complex geometry, highlighting the necessity of correction schemes in scenarios with unavoidable high background pressure.

An immersed $CR$-$P_0$ element for Stokes interface problems and the optimal convergence analysis

This paper presents and analyzes an immersed finite element (IFE) method for solving Stokes interface problems with a piecewise constant viscosity coefficient that has a jump across the interface. In the method, the triangulation does not need to fit the interface and the IFE spaces are constructed from the traditional $CR$-$P_0$ element with modifications near the interface according to the interface jump conditions. We prove that the IFE basis functions are unisolvent on arbitrary interface elements and the IFE spaces have the optimal approximation capabilities, although the proof is challenging due to the coupling of the velocity and the pressure. The stability and the optimal error estimates of the proposed IFE method are also derived rigorously. The constants in the error estimates are shown to be independent of the interface location relative to the triangulation. Numerical examples are provided to verify the theoretical results.

An Iteratively Decoupled Algorithm for Multiple-Network Poroelastic Model with Applications in Brain Edema Simulations

In this work, we present an iteratively decoupled algorithm for solving the quasi-static multiple-network poroelastic model. Our approach employs a total-pressure-based formulation with solid displacement, total pressure, and network pressures as primary unknowns. This reformulation decomposes the original problem into a generalized Stokes problem and a parabolic problem, offering key advantages such as reduced elastic locking effects and simplified discretization. The algorithm guarantees unconditional convergence to the solution of the fully coupled system. Numerical experiments demonstrate the accuracy, efficiency, and robustness of the method with respect to physical parameters and discretization. We further apply the algorithm to simulate the brain edema process, showcasing its practical utility in biomechanical modeling.

Robust Beamforming Design for Secure Near-Field ISAC Systems

This letter investigates the robust beamforming design for a near-field secure integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system with multiple communication users (CUs) and targets, as well as multiple eavesdroppers. Taking into account the channel uncertainty constraints, we maximize the minimum sensing beampattern gain for targets, subject to the minimum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) constraint for each CU and the maximum SINR constraint for each eavesdropper, as well as the ISAC transmit power constraint. The formulated design problem is non-convex. As a low-complexity suboptimal solution, we first apply the S-Procedure to convert semi-infinite channel uncertainty constraints into linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and then use the state-of-the-art sequential rank-one constraint relaxation (SROCR) method to address the rank-one constraints. The numerical results show that the proposed ISAC beamforming design scheme outperforms the existing semidefinite relaxation (SDR) and other baseline schemes, and it significantly enhances security and robustness for near-field ISAC systems.

EFKAN: A KAN-Integrated Neural Operator For Efficient Magnetotelluric Forward Modeling

Magnetotelluric (MT) forward modeling is fundamental for improving the accuracy and efficiency of MT inversion. Neural operators (NOs) have been effectively used for rapid MT forward modeling, demonstrating their promising performance in solving the MT forward modeling-related partial differential equations (PDEs). Particularly, they can obtain the electromagnetic field at arbitrary locations and frequencies. In these NOs, the projection layers have been dominated by multi-layer perceptrons (MLPs), which may potentially reduce the accuracy of solution due to they usually suffer from the disadvantages of MLPs, such as lack of interpretability, overfitting, and so on. Therefore, to improve the accuracy of MT forward modeling with NOs and explore the potential alternatives to MLPs, we propose a novel neural operator by extending the Fourier neural operator (FNO) with Kolmogorov-Arnold network (EFKAN). Within the EFKAN framework, the FNO serves as the branch network to calculate the apparent resistivity and phase from the resistivity model in the frequency domain. Meanwhile, the KAN acts as the trunk network to project the resistivity and phase, determined by the FNO, to the desired locations and frequencies. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method not only achieves higher accuracy in obtaining apparent resistivity and phase compared to the NO equipped with MLPs at the desired frequencies and locations but also outperforms traditional numerical methods in terms of computational speed.

High-quality metalens enables minimally invasive CFB endoscopy

Metalenses, owing to their ultra-thin planar structures, present a promising solution for reducing endoscopic invasiveness. However, achieving high-quality imaging with minimal invasiveness (short focal length of metalens) remains a critical challenge. This paper presents a deep learning assisted metalens with a 1mm focal length tailored for coherent fiber bundle, constituting the least invasive metalens-CFB system reported to date. To overcome the increased chromatic dispersion and aberrations associated with high NA metalens, we compensate for lateral etching at the base of the nanopillars by adjusting the thickness of a sacrificial hard mask. This approach enables the fabrication of nanopillars with small cross sections and high aspect ratios, featuring nearly vertical sidewalls (~90°), thereby enhancing the phase accuracy of the metalens. Experimental validation using the metalens-CFB system demonstrates that the metalens achieves an expanded field of view of 48.3° and a depth of field exceeding 125 mm. This work establishes a new paradigm for ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic imaging.
