Existence, Equivalence, and Convergence of Unbalanced Optimal Transport

We study an unbalanced optimal transport problem with a spatially independent signed source. The target density is continuous on a bounded domain or continuous and integrable on $\mathbb R^n$. We establish sequential weak lower semicontinuity at the critical Sobolev regularity $W^{1,n}$ and existence of minimizers under prescribed distortion and Jacobian mass bounds, provided a finite-energy admissible pair exists. For domain-preserving, uniformly bi-Lipschitz affine flows, we prove an energy-preserving static-dynamic correspondence and stability of the reconstruction. Within this class, sequential $Γ$-convergence identifies the strong source-penalty limit as transport minimization among pairs of minimum source cost. This yields optimal-cost asymptotics and subsequential convergence of minimizers and their reconstructed paths. When a constant source is admissible, optimal sources converge strongly in $L^2$ to the constant determined by the endpoint mass difference. We establish local constant-source feasibility for Hölder endpoint densities near a fixed reference pair and give a quantitative obstruction showing that constant-source feasibility may fail even when admissible pairs exist.

New Newton-type inequality and a unified perspective on Maclaurin's inequality via the inclusion relations of cones

The classical Newton-Maclaurin's inequalities for the elementary symmetric means are well known. In this paper, we derive a new class of Newton-type inequalities and generalize Maclaurin's inequality by connecting the elementary symmetric functions with their counterparts. Our idea is mainly motivated by the inclusion relations of G$\mathring{\text{a}}$rding's cones and $k$-convex cones.

A Critical Case for the Near Field Refraction Problem in Negative Refractive Index Material

This paper studies the near field refraction problem for the critical case in negative refractive index material. Snell law in vector form is first reviewed, and the physical constraint governing refraction is discussed. We then define the refractor for the critical case and analyze several of its key properties. Building on these properties, we introduce the notion of a weak solution to this problem and prove the existence of the weak solution when the target measure is either discrete or a finite Radon measure. The proof relies on the Minkowski method, an iterative approach to refraction and reflection problems in geometric optics.

Regularity for degenerate or singular fully nonlinear elliptic equations with Hamiltonian terms and applications

In this paper, we investigate regularity properties for viscosity solutions to a general class of degenerate or singular fully nonlinear elliptic equations with Hamiltonian terms, \[ \left\{ \begin{alignedat}{2} Φ(|Du|,x)F(D^{2}u,x)+H(|Du|,x) & =f(x) \quad && \text{in } \quad Ω,\\ u(x) & = g(x) \quad && \text{on } \quad \partialΩ. \end{alignedat} \right. \] Here, $F$ is uniformly elliptic, while $Φ$ and $H$ satisfy suitable structural and growth conditions allowing for both degenerate and singular regimes. Our first result establishes sharp global $C^{1,α}$ regularity for this general class of equations, thereby providing a unified regularity framework for both degenerate and singular regimes. We next develop an oscillation-based approach for fully nonlinear equations with unbalanced variable degeneracy and Hamiltonian terms. Under a Hölder-type decay assumption on $ f $, we derive sharp boundary $C^{1,β'}$ estimates with an explicit exponent, and establish a quantitative non-degeneracy estimate in the singular region. Finally, as applications of the general theory, under a suitable viscosity curvature condition on the level sets of the solution, we establish global $ C^{1,\frac{1}{3}} $ regularity for the infinity-Poisson and global $ C^{1,\frac{1}{p-1}} $ regularity for the $ p $-Poisson with $ p>2 $. These results may provide a new perspective on these two long-standing open problems.

Sharp conditions for fully nonlinear equations with $(n-1)$-Hessian matrix: Part I. Monge--Ampère case

We study positive $(n-1)$-convex entire subsolutions of the normalized real $(n-1)$ Monge--Ampère equation $\operatorname{det}^{\frac1n}\bigl(ΔuI-D^2u\bigr)=f(u)+g(u)|Du|^q$ in $\mathbb R^n$. Under two sets of structural assumptions on the continuous, non-decreasing coefficients $f$ and $g$, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of entire subsolutions when $q<2-\frac1n$. Our results cover the pure-gradient degenerate case $f\equiv0$ with $0<q<1$, the gradient-singular case $q<0$, and the case where $g$ changes sign. For $q=2-\frac1n$, we recover the Keller--Osserman condition for the gradient-independent equation, prove nonexistence when $g$ is eventually positive, and obtain an exponentially weighted condition when $g$ has a nonpositive limit at infinity. This is the first of two companion papers and treats the determinant case.

Sharp conditions for fully nonlinear equations with $(n-1)$-Hessian matrix: Part II. $k$-Hessian case

We study admissible entire subsolutions and radial boundary blow-up solutions of $S_k^{\frac1k}[ΔuI-D^2u]=f(u)+g(u)|Du|^q$ for $1\leq k<n$, continuing our study of the determinant case $k=n$ in Part I. Under structural assumptions on the continuous, non-decreasing coefficients $f$ and $g$, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of entire subsolutions when $q<2$. Our results cover the non-Lipschitz case $0<q<1$ with a possibly vanishing zero-order term, the gradient-singular case $q<0$, and sign-changing gradient coefficients. We also characterize finite-radius blow-up of radial solutions and derive two-sided estimates for the blow-up radius, as well as pointwise upper bounds for their profiles in terms of inverse Keller--Osserman functions.

Oblique boundary value problems for n-1type augmented Hessian equations

In this paper, we study the global regularity of oblique boundary value problems for n-1 type augmented Hessian equations on a bounded domain, without imposing any convexity condition either on the domain or on the matrix-valued function in the n-1 type augmented Hessian equations. We establish a global existence and uniqueness theory for classical elliptic solutions by deriving global a priori estimates up to second-order derivatives. Besides the known applications for n-1 type Monge-Ampere operators in optimal transportation and geometric optics, the general theory here embraces equations raised by Li-Sheng, Some Dirichlet problems arising from conformal geometry. Pac. J. Math. 251, 2011, 337-359 and Guan-Qiu-Yuan, Fully nonlinear elliptic equations for conformal deformations of Chern-Ricci forms. Adv. Math. 343, 2019, 538-566.

Overdetermined problem for optimal transportation

In this paper, we establish symmetry results for solutions of overdetermined problems arising in optimal transportation. These problems involve the Monge-Ampère equation with a Dirichlet boundary condition $u=0$ on $\partial Ω$ and the natural boundary condition $Du(Ω)=Ω^{*}$. We show that symmetry holds when the target is the unit ball $B$. For more general target domains, including the cases $Ω^*=Ω$ and arbitrary $Ω^{*}$, symmetry is retained under an additional volume constraint on $Ω$ and a boundary condition on $|Du|$. Finally, we introduce a curvature-type overdetermined problem for the Monge-Ampère equation and obtain ellipsoidal or spherical symmetry under an additional integral normalization condition. Our proofs rely on distinct techniques in different contexts: optimal transport and convex analysis for some cases, integral identities and isoperimetric inequalities for others, and P-function methods for the remaining cases. As a byproduct, in the $τ=2$ case, a new maximum principle for the $P$-function $ϕ(x)=\sum_{k,l=1}^{n}{\frac{\partial{S_τ(D^2{u})}}{\partial{u_{kl}}}u_{k}u_{l}}-2\binom{n-1}{τ-1}\int_{0}^{u}{f^{\fracτ{n}}(t)\,dt}$ is established for arbitrary positive and nondecreasing $f$, which is of independent interest.

Asymptotically Hölder gradient regularity for degenerate or singular parabolic normalized $ p$-Laplace equations

We study bounded viscosity solutions of the degenerate or singular parabolic equation \[ u_t-|Du|^γΔ_p^{\mathrm{N}}u=f \qquad \text{in } Q_1, \] where \[ Δ_p^{\mathrm{N}}u := Δu+(p-2) \left\langle D^2u\frac{Du}{|Du|}, \frac{Du}{|Du|} \right\rangle, \qquad -1<γ<\infty,\quad 1 0$ such that \[ |p-2|+|γ|\leq\varepsilon \quad\Longrightarrow\quad u\in C_{\mathrm{loc}}^{1+α,\frac{1+α}{2}}(Q_1). \] In particular, the spatial gradient Hölder exponent can be chosen arbitrarily close to $ 1 $ as $(p,γ)\to(2,0)$. This extends the result of Andrade and Santos (Calc. Var. Partial Differential Equations \textbf{61}, Paper No. 196, 2022) for $γ=0$ to the joint regime $(p,γ)\to(2,0)$ and answers affirmatively the question raised in Remark~1.1 therein.

Degeneracy Set Comparison Principle and Free Boundary Estimates for Hénon-type Infinity Laplace equations

In this work, we study nonnegative viscosity solutions to Hénon-type equations driven by the infinity-Laplacian with a degenerate weight, strong absorption and an additional source term. We focus on free boundary points lying in the degeneracy set of the weight. We prove the degeneracy set comparison principle, which yields uniqueness within each slice determined by the value on the degeneracy set of the weight, although global uniqueness is not available in general. We establish sharp improved regularity estimates near free boundary points, with the intrinsic growth rate $r^{\frac{4+α}{3-m}}$. Finally, we obtain a matching non-degeneracy estimate at free boundary points; the property holds in the inhomogeneous case with suitable condition. Consequently, solutions detach from their zero phase at this rate.

Global $ C^{1}$ regularity for degenerate fully nonlinear elliptic equations

In this paper, we prove global $ C^{1}$ regularity for Dirichlet problem of a class of degenerate fully nonlinear elliptic equations on $ C^{2}$ domain. This corresponds to the boundary counterpart of the interior $ C^{1}$ regularity results by \cite{APPT22} and \cite{AN25}. By an example, we show that $ C^{1, α}$ regularity of boundary datum is sharp within the scale of Hölder spaces. Furthermore, we also provide boundary $ C^{1, β}$ regularity for a class of singular fully nonlinear elliptic equations.

Regularity for fully nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations with strong absorption

In this paper, we investigate dead-core problems for fully nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations with strong absorption, \begin{equation*} |Du|^{p} F(D^{2}u) - u_{t} = λ_{0}(x,t)\, u^μ\, χ_{\{u>0\}}(x,t) \qquad \text{in } \quad Q_{T} := Q \times (0,T), \end{equation*} where $0 \leq p < \infty$ and $0 < μ< 1$. We establish a sharp and improved parabolic $C^α$-regularity estimate along the free boundary $\partial \{ u > 0 \}$, where \[ α:= \frac{2+p}{1+p-μ} > 1 + \frac{1}{1+p}. \] Moreover, we establish weak geometric properties of solutions, such as non-degeneracy and uniform positive density. As an application, we obtain a Liouville-type theorem for entire solutions and gradient bounds. Finally, as a byproduct of our approach, we derive a novel $L^δ$-average estimate for fully nonlinear singular elliptic equations and present a new formulation of the gradient decay property. It is worth noting that the results presented here extend those in da Silva {\it et al.} ({\it Pacific J. Math}., \textbf{300} (2019), 179--213) and ({\it J. Differential Equations}., \textbf{264} (2018), 7270--7293) to the degenerate setting, and can be viewed as a parabolic analogue of da Silva {\it et al.} ({\it Math. Nachr}., \textbf{294} (2021), 38--55) and Teixeira ({\it Math. Ann}., \textbf{364} (2016), 1121--1134). Additionally, of independent mathematical interest, we emphasize that our manuscript establishes a comparison principle result and the compactness of viscosity solutions to fully nonlinear degenerate parabolic models with continuous and bounded forcing terms. These compactness and comparison properties serve as key ingredients in deriving enhanced regularity estimates along free boundary points for our model problem with strong absorption.

Improved regularity estimates for degenerate or singular fully nonlinear dead-core systems and Hénon-type equations

In this paper, we study the degenerate or singular fully nonlinear dead-core systems coupled with strong absorption terms. We establish several properties, including improved regularity of viscosity solutions along the free boundary, non-degeneracy, a measure estimate of the free boundary, Liouville-type results, and the behavior of blow-up solution. We also derive sharp regularity estimates for viscosity solutions to Hénon-type equations with a degenerate weight and strong absorption, governed by a degenerate fully nonlinear operator. Our results are new even for the model equations involving degenerate Laplacian operators.

Near Field Refraction Problem With Loss of Energy in Negative Refractive Index Material

This paper studies the near field refraction problem with loss of energy in negative refractive index material. Based on the relative refractive index $κ$, the analysis is categorized into two cases, namely $κ< -1$ and $-1 < κ< 0$. For each case, we give the definition of the refractor and discuss some crucial properties of it. The properties of Fresnel coefficients are also discussed. Based on these properties, the existence of the weak solution when the target measure is either discrete or a finite Radon measure are proved. Besides, the critical case $κ= -1$ is also discussed briefly at the end of this paper.

Far field refraction problem with loss of energy in negative refractive index material

This paper studies the far field refraction problem in negative refractive index material with loss of energy, which is a remaining problem in E. Stachura, Nonlinear Anal. 2017;157:76-103. The analysis is divided into two cases according to the relative refractive index $κ$, that is, $κ<-1$ and $-1<κ<0$. For each case, we use the Minkowski method to establish the existence of the weak solution when the target measure is either discrete or a finite Radon measure. Eventually, the inequality involving a Monge-Ampère type operator satisfied by the solution of the problem is derived, which is useful to understand this complex optical phenomenon.

On a class of Cauchy problems with applications in nonlinear partial differential equations

In this paper, we investigate the existence and nonexistence of entire solutions to a general class of Cauchy problems in the positive half line. Our results provide a unified approach to proving sharp local and entire solvability of nonlinear partial differential equations in n-dimensional Euclidean space. As applications of the general framework, we present such results for two series of nonlinear equations: a series of k-Hessian type equations and a new series of P-k-Hessian type equations. These results are also proved for the more general p-Hessian matrices, with p > 1, and degenerate non homogeneous terms.

Regularity of solutions for degenerate or singular fully nonlinear integro-differential equations

We study a series of regularity results for solutions to a degenerate or singular fully nonlinear integro-differential equation of the form $$- \big( σ_{1}(|Du|) + a(x) σ_{2}(|Du|) \big) \mathcal{I}_τ(u,x) = f(x).$$ In the degenerate case, we establish borderline regularity, provided the inverse of the degeneracy law $ σ_{2}$ is Dini-continuous. In addition, we show Schauder-type higher regularity at local extremum points for a specific non-local degenerate equation. In the singular case, we establish Hölder continuity of the gradient for solutions to a general non-local equation. It is noteworthy that these results are new even in the case $ a(x) \equiv 0 $. Finally, as a byproduct of the borderline regularity analysis, we demonstrate how our methods can be applied to study of the corresponding regularity for a class of degenerate non-local normalized $ p$-Laplacian equations.
