Building Privacy-and-Security-Focused Federated Learning Infrastructure for Global Multi-Centre Healthcare Research

Collaborative healthcare research across multiple institutions increasingly requires diverse clinical datasets, but cross-border data sharing is strictly constrained by privacy regulations. Federated learning (FL) enables model training while keeping data local; however, many existing frameworks remain proof-of-concept and do not adequately address governance risks such as unauthorised participation, misuse, and lack of accountability. In particular, enforceable mechanisms for authentication, authorisation, and accounting (AAA) are often missing, limiting real-world clinical deployment. This paper presents FLA$^3$ (Federated Learning with Authentication, Authorisation, and Accounting), a governance-aware federated learning platform that operationalises regulatory obligations through runtime policy enforcement. FLA$^3$ integrates eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML) compliant attribute-based access control (ABAC), cryptographic accounting, and study-scoped federation directly into the federated learning orchestration layer to enforce institutional sovereignty and protocol adherence. We evaluate FLA$^3$ through two complementary studies. First, we demonstrate operational feasibility by deploying the platform infrastructure across five BloodCounts! Consortium institutions in four countries: United Kingdom, Netherlands, India, and The Gambia. Second, we assess clinical utility using simulated federation of full blood count (FBC) data from 54,446 samples from 35,315 subjects across 25 centres in the INTERVAL study. Results show that FLA$^3$ achieves predictive performance comparable to centralised training while strictly enforcing governance constraints. These results show that enforceable governance can function as a first-class privacy-preserving control, improving trustworthiness for scalable artificial intelligence (AI) in cross-jurisdictional healthcare deployments.

Instance Data Condensation for Image Super-Resolution

Deep learning based Image Super-Resolution (ISR) relies on large training datasets to optimize model generalization; this requires substantial computational and storage resources during training. While dataset condensation (DC) has shown potential in improving data efficiency for high-level computer vision tasks, adopting these methods for ISR is not straightforward due to the different requirements of ISR training, including the use of unlabeled datasets and high resolution images with fine details. In this paper, we propose a novel Instance Data Condensation (IDC) framework specifically for ISR, which achieves data condensation in a per-image manner, aiming to address the limitations when directly applying existing DC methods to the ISR task. Furthermore, the IDC framework is based on a novel Random Local Fourier Feature Extraction and Multi-level Feature Distribution Matching methods, which are designed to generate high-quality synthesized content by aligning its feature distributions with those of the original high-resolution training samples at both global and local levels. This framework has been utilized to condense the most commonly used training dataset for ISR, DIV2K, with a 10% condensation rate. The resulting synthetic dataset offers comparable performance to the original full dataset and excellent training stability when used to train various popular ISR models. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that a condensed/synthetic dataset (with a 10% data volume) has demonstrated such performance.

Pessimistic Auxiliary Policy for Offline Reinforcement Learning

Offline reinforcement learning aims to learn an agent from pre-collected datasets, avoiding unsafe and inefficient real-time interaction. However, inevitable access to out-ofdistribution actions during the learning process introduces approximation errors, causing the error accumulation and considerable overestimation. In this paper, we construct a new pessimistic auxiliary policy for sampling reliable actions. Specifically, we develop a pessimistic auxiliary strategy by maximizing the lower confidence bound of the Q-function. The pessimistic auxiliary strategy exhibits a relatively high value and low uncertainty in the vicinity of the learned policy, avoiding the learned policy sampling high-value actions with potentially high errors during the learning process. Less approximation error introduced by sampled action from pessimistic auxiliary strategy leads to the alleviation of error accumulation. Extensive experiments on offline reinforcement learning benchmarks reveal that utilizing the pessimistic auxiliary strategy can effectively improve the efficacy of other offline RL approaches.

Mozi: Governed Autonomy for Drug Discovery LLM Agents

Tool-augmented large language model (LLM) agents promise to unify scientific reasoning with computation, yet their deployment in high-stakes domains like drug discovery is bottlenecked by two critical barriers: unconstrained tool-use governance and poor long-horizon reliability. In dependency-heavy pharmaceutical pipelines, autonomous agents often drift into irreproducible trajectories, where early-stage hallucinations multiplicatively compound into downstream failures. To overcome this, we present Mozi, a dual-layer architecture that bridges the flexibility of generative AI with the deterministic rigor of computational biology. Layer A (Control Plane) establishes a governed supervisor--worker hierarchy that enforces role-based tool isolation, limits execution to constrained action spaces, and drives reflection-based replanning. Layer B (Workflow Plane) operationalizes canonical drug discovery stages -- from Target Identification to Lead Optimization -- as stateful, composable skill graphs. This layer integrates strict data contracts and strategic human-in-the-loop (HITL) checkpoints to safeguard scientific validity at high-uncertainty decision boundaries. Operating on the design principle of ``free-form reasoning for safe tasks, structured execution for long-horizon pipelines,'' Mozi provides built-in robustness mechanisms and trace-level audibility to completely mitigate error accumulation. We evaluate Mozi on PharmaBench, a curated benchmark for biomedical agents, demonstrating superior orchestration accuracy over existing baselines. Furthermore, through end-to-end therapeutic case studies, we demonstrate Mozi's ability to navigate massive chemical spaces, enforce stringent toxicity filters, and generate highly competitive in silico candidates, effectively transforming the LLM from a fragile conversationalist into a reliable, governed co-scientist.

MedLA: A Logic-Driven Multi-Agent Framework for Complex Medical Reasoning with Large Language Models

Answering complex medical questions requires not only domain expertise and patient-specific information, but also structured and multi-perspective reasoning. Existing multi-agent approaches often rely on fixed roles or shallow interaction prompts, limiting their ability to detect and resolve fine-grained logical inconsistencies. To address this, we propose \textsc{MedLA}, a logic-driven multi-agent framework built on large language models. Each agent organizes its reasoning process into an explicit logical tree based on syllogistic triads (major premise, minor premise, and conclusion), enabling transparent inference and premise-level alignment. Agents engage in a multi-round, graph-guided discussion to compare and iteratively refine their logic trees, achieving consensus through error correction and contradiction resolution. We demonstrate that \textsc{MedLA} consistently outperforms both static role-based systems and single-agent baselines on challenging benchmarks such as MedDDx and standard medical QA tasks. Furthermore, \textsc{MedLA} scales effectively across both open-source and commercial LLM backbones, achieving state-of-the-art performance and offering a generalizable paradigm for trustworthy medical reasoning.

A Decision Analysis Framework for High-fidelity and Low-fidelity Systems with Applications in Manufacturing Processes

Optimizing complex manufacturing processes often involves a trade-off between data accuracy and acquisition cost. High-fidelity data are accurate but limited, while low-fidelity data are abundant but often biased. Balancing these two sources is critical for efficient manufacturing optimization. To address this challenge, we develop a decision analysis framework based on multi-fidelity Gaussian process (GP) modeling based on the Kennedy-O'Hagan (KOH) framework. We propose a systematic Bayesian calibration approach using multi-fidelity GPs that explicitly quantifies the model discrepancy, and an algorithm that combines posterior sampling of calibration parameters with predictive sampling to characterize the distribution of optimal input settings and their associated uncertainty. These components are integrated into a five-stage practical workflow for the optimization of manufacturing processes. Through an illustrative example and two real-world applications in composite cure cycle optimization and injection molding process control, we demonstrate how the framework integrates information from both high-fidelity and low-fidelity data sources to support decision-making under parameter uncertainty.

SpotAgent: Grounding Visual Geo-localization in Large Vision-Language Models through Agentic Reasoning

Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) have demonstrated strong reasoning capabilities in geo-localization, yet they often struggle in real-world scenarios where visual cues are sparse, long-tailed, and highly ambiguous. Previous approaches, bound by internal knowledge, often fail to provide verifiable results, yielding confident but ungrounded predictions when faced with confounded evidence. To address these challenges, we propose SpotAgent, a framework that formalizes geo-localization into an agentic reasoning process that leverages expert-level reasoning to synergize visual interpretation with tool-assisted verification. SpotAgent actively explores and verifies visual cues by leveraging external tools (e.g., web search, maps) through a ReAct diagram. We introduce a 3-stage post-training pipeline starting with a Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) stage for basic alignment, followed by an Agentic Cold Start phase utilizing high-quality trajectories synthesized via a Multi-Agent framework, aiming to instill tool-calling expertise. Subsequently, the model's reasoning capabilities are refined through Reinforcement Learning. We propose a Spatially-Aware Dynamic Filtering strategy to enhance the efficiency of the RL stage by prioritizing learnable samples based on spatial difficulty. Extensive experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate that SpotAgent achieves state-of-the-art performance, effectively mitigating hallucinations while delivering precise and verifiable geo-localization.

HGTS-Former: Hierarchical HyperGraph Transformer for Multivariate Time Series Analysis

Multivariate time series analysis has long been one of the key research topics in the field of artificial intelligence. However, analyzing complex time series data remains a challenging and unresolved problem due to its high dimensionality, dynamic nature, and complex interactions among variables. Inspired by the strong structural modeling capability of hypergraphs, this paper proposes a novel hypergraph-based time series Transformer backbone network, termed HGTS-Former, to address the multivariate coupling in time series data. Specifically, given the multivariate time series signal, we first normalize and embed each patch into tokens. Then, we adopt the multi-head self-attention to enhance the temporal representation of each patch. The hierarchical hypergraphs are constructed to aggregate the temporal patterns within each channel and fine-grained relations between different variables. After that, we convert the hyperedge into node features through the EdgeToNode module and adopt the feed-forward network to further enhance the output features. Extensive experiments on multiple representative time series analysis tasks and public datasets fully validated the effectiveness of our proposed HGTS-Former. Moreover, we present EAST-ELM640, a large-scale time series dataset for Edge-Localized Mode (ELM) recognition in nuclear fusion, on which we achieve state-of-the-art performance. SyncTrack: Rhythmic Stability and Synchronization in Multi-Track Music Generation

Multi-track music generation has garnered significant research interest due to its precise mixing and remixing capabilities. However, existing models often overlook essential attributes such as rhythmic stability and synchronization, leading to a focus on differences between tracks rather than their inherent properties. In this paper, we introduce SyncTrack, a synchronous multi-track waveform music generation model designed to capture the unique characteristics of multi-track music. SyncTrack features a novel architecture that includes track-shared modules to establish a common rhythm across all tracks and track-specific modules to accommodate diverse timbres and pitch ranges. Each track-shared module employs two cross-track attention mechanisms to synchronize rhythmic information, while each track-specific module utilizes learnable instrument priors to better represent timbre and other unique features. Additionally, we enhance the evaluation of multi-track music quality by introducing rhythmic consistency through three novel metrics: Inner-track Rhythmic Stability (IRS), Cross-track Beat Synchronization (CBS), and Cross-track Beat Dispersion (CBD). Experiments demonstrate that SyncTrack significantly improves the multi-track music quality by enhancing rhythmic consistency.

Prune Wisely, Reconstruct Sharply: Compact 3D Gaussian Splatting via Adaptive Pruning and Difference-of-Gaussian Primitives

Recent significant advances in 3D scene representation have been driven by 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), which has enabled real-time rendering with photorealistic quality. 3DGS often requires a large number of primitives to achieve high fidelity, leading to redundant representations and high resource consumption, thereby limiting its scalability for complex or large-scale scenes. Consequently, effective pruning strategies and more expressive primitives that can reduce redundancy while preserving visual quality are crucial for practical deployment. We propose an efficient, integrated reconstruction-aware pruning strategy that adaptively determines pruning timing and refining intervals based on reconstruction quality, thus reducing model size while enhancing rendering quality. Moreover, we introduce a 3D Difference-of-Gaussians primitive that jointly models both positive and negative densities in a single primitive, improving the expressiveness of Gaussians under compact configurations. Our method significantly improves model compactness, achieving up to 90\% reduction in Gaussian-count while delivering visual quality that is similar to, or in some cases better than, that produced by state-of-the-art methods. Code will be made publicly available.

Few-Shot Continual Learning for 3D Brain MRI with Frozen Foundation Models

Foundation models pretrained on large-scale 3D medical imaging data face challenges when adapted to multiple downstream tasks under continual learning with limited labeled data. We address few-shot continual learning for 3D brain MRI by combining a frozen pretrained backbone with task-specific Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) modules. Tasks arrive sequentially -- tumor segmentation (BraTS) and brain age estimation (IXI) -- with no replay of previous task data. Each task receives a dedicated LoRA adapter; only the adapter and task-specific head are trained while the backbone remains frozen, thereby eliminating catastrophic forgetting by design (BWT=0). In continual learning, sequential full fine-tuning suffers severe forgetting (T1 Dice drops from 0.80 to 0.16 after T2), while sequential linear probing achieves strong T1 (Dice 0.79) but fails on T2 (MAE 1.45). Our LoRA approach achieves the best balanced performance across both tasks: T1 Dice 0.62$\pm$0.07, T2 MAE 0.16$\pm$0.05, with zero forgetting and $<$0.1\% trainable parameters per task, though with noted systematic age underestimation in T2 (Wilcoxon $p<0.001$). Frozen foundation models with task-specific LoRA adapters thus offer a practical solution when both tasks must be maintained under few-shot continual learning.

Trajectory-aware Shifted State Space Models for Online Video Super-Resolution

Online video super-resolution (VSR) is an important technique for many real-world video processing applications, which aims to restore the current high-resolution video frame based on temporally previous frames. Most of the existing online VSR methods solely employ one neighboring previous frame to achieve temporal alignment, which limits long-range temporal modeling of videos. Recently, state space models (SSMs) have been proposed with linear computational complexity and a global receptive field, which significantly improve computational efficiency and performance. In this context, this paper presents a novel online VSR method based on Trajectory-aware Shifted SSMs (TS-Mamba), leveraging both long-term trajectory modeling and low-complexity Mamba to achieve efficient spatio-temporal information aggregation. Specifically, TS-Mamba first constructs the trajectories within a video to select the most similar tokens from the previous frames. Then, a Trajectory-aware Shifted Mamba Aggregation (TSMA) module consisting of proposed shifted SSMs blocks is employed to aggregate the selected tokens. The shifted SSMs blocks are designed based on Hilbert scannings and corresponding shift operations to compensate for scanning losses and strengthen the spatial continuity of Mamba. Additionally, we propose a trajectory-aware loss function to supervise the trajectory generation, ensuring the accuracy of token selection when training our model. Extensive experiments on three widely used VSR test datasets demonstrate that compared with six online VSR benchmark models, our TS-Mamba achieves state-of-the-art performance in most cases and over 22.7% complexity reduction (in MACs).

Making Slow Thinking Faster: Compressing LLM Chain-of-Thought via Step Entropy

Large Language Models (LLMs) using Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting excel at complex reasoning but generate verbose thought processes with considerable redundancy, leading to increased inference costs and reduced efficiency. We introduce a novel CoT compression framework based on step entropy, a metric that quantifies \emph{the informational contribution of individual reasoning steps} to identify redundancy. Through theoretical analysis and extensive empirical validation on mathematical reasoning benchmarks, we demonstrate that steps with low entropy are indeed highly redundant. Our experiments reveal that an astonishing 80\% of low-entropy intermediate steps can be pruned with minor degradation in the final answer accuracy across DeepSeek-R1-7B, 14B and Qwen3-8B. This finding sharply contrasts with random or high-entropy pruning, which severely impairs reasoning performance. Building on this, we propose a novel two-stage training strategy combining Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) and Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) reinforcement learning. This approach enables LLMs to autonomously learn to generate compressed COTs during inference by strategically incorporating [SKIP] tokens. Our method significantly improves LLM inference efficiency while preserving accuracy, paving the way for more scalable LLM deployments and a better understanding of their internal reasoning. The code and data are released in https://github.com/staymylove/COT_Compresstion_via_Step_entropy.

Segment-Based Two-Loop Adaptive Iterative Learning Control for Spacecraft Position and Attitude Tracking

Proximity operations of rigid bodies, such as spacecraft rendezvous and docking, require precise tracking of both position and attitude over finite time intervals. These operations are often repeated under uncertain conditions, with unknown but repeatable parameters and disturbances. Adaptive iterative learning control (ILC) is well suited to such tasks, as it can track desired trajectories while learning unknown, iteration-invariant signals or parameters. However, conventional adaptive ILC faces two challenges: (i) the coupling between rotational and translational dynamics complicates the design of the two coordinated learning loops for position and attitude, and (ii) standard adaptive ILC designs cannot guarantee bounded control inputs. To address these issues, we propose a dual-number-based, segment-based two-loop adaptive ILC framework for simultaneous high-precision position and attitude tracking. The framework employs two learning loops that interact through a dual-number representation of tracking errors, combining position and attitude errors into a single mathematical object for unified control design. A segment-based dynamic projection mechanism ensures that both parameter estimates and control inputs remain bounded without prior knowledge of uncertainties. Mathematical analysis and numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed framework significantly enhances tracking performance under unknown but repeatable uncertainties and strong rotational-translational coupling.

S2R-HDR: A Large-Scale Rendered Dataset for HDR Fusion

The generalization of learning-based high dynamic range (HDR) fusion is often limited by the availability of training data, as collecting large-scale HDR images from dynamic scenes is both costly and technically challenging. To address these challenges, we propose S2R-HDR, the first large-scale high-quality synthetic dataset for HDR fusion, with 24,000 HDR samples. Using Unreal Engine 5, we design a diverse set of realistic HDR scenes that encompass various dynamic elements, motion types, high dynamic range scenes, and lighting. Additionally, we develop an efficient rendering pipeline to generate realistic HDR images. To further mitigate the domain gap between synthetic and real-world data, we introduce S2R-Adapter, a domain adaptation designed to bridge this gap and enhance the generalization ability of models. Experimental results on real-world datasets demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art HDR fusion performance. Quantum Temporal Convolutional Neural Networks for Cross-Sectional Equity Return Prediction: A Comparative Benchmark Study

Quantum machine learning offers a promising pathway for enhancing stock market prediction, particularly under complex, noisy, and highly dynamic financial environments. However, many classical forecasting models struggle with noisy input, regime shifts, and limited generalization capacity. To address these challenges, we propose a Quantum Temporal Convolutional Neural Network (QTCNN) that combines a classical temporal encoder with parameter-efficient quantum convolution circuits for cross-sectional equity return prediction. The temporal encoder extracts multi-scale patterns from sequential technical indicators, while the quantum processing leverages superposition and entanglement to enhance feature representation and suppress overfitting. We conduct a comprehensive benchmarking study on the JPX Tokyo Stock Exchange dataset and evaluate predictions through long-short portfolio construction using out-of-sample Sharpe ratio as the primary performance metric. QTCNN achieves a Sharpe ratio of 0.538, outperforming the best classical baseline by approximately 72\%. These results highlight the practical potential of quantum-enhanced forecasting model, QTCNN, for robust decision-making in quantitative finance.

SAM3-LiteText: An Anatomical Study of the SAM3 Text Encoder for Efficient Vision-Language Segmentation

Vision-language segmentation models such as SAM3 enable flexible, prompt-driven visual grounding, but inherit large, general-purpose text encoders originally designed for open-ended language understanding. In practice, segmentation prompts are short, structured, and semantically constrained, leading to substantial over-provisioning in text encoder capacity and persistent computational and memory overhead. In this paper, we perform a large-scale anatomical analysis of text prompting in vision-language segmentation, covering 404,796 real prompts across multiple benchmarks. Our analysis reveals severe redundancy: most context windows are underutilized, vocabulary usage is highly sparse, and text embeddings lie on low-dimensional manifold despite high-dimensional representations. Motivated by these findings, we propose SAM3-LiteText, a lightweight text encoding framework that replaces the original SAM3 text encoder with a compact MobileCLIP student that is optimized by knowledge distillation. Extensive experiments on image and video segmentation benchmarks show that SAM3-LiteText reduces text encoder parameters by up to 88%, substantially reducing static memory footprint, while maintaining segmentation performance comparable to the original model. Code: https://github.com/SimonZeng7108/efficientsam3/tree/sam3_litetext.
