Idempotence and divisorialty in Pr\"ufer-like domains

Let $D$ be a Pr\"ufer $\star$-multiplication domain, where $\star$ is a semistar operation on $D$. We show that certain ideal-theoretic properties related to idempotence and divisoriality hold in Pr\"ufer domains, and we use the associated semistar Nagata ring of $D$ to show that the natural counterparts of these properties also hold in $D$.

Sharpness and semistar operations in Pruefer-like domains

Let $\star$ be a semistar operation on a domain $D$, $\star_f$ the finite-type semistar operation associated to $\star$, and $D$ a Pr\"ufer $\star$-multiplication domain (P$\star$MD). For the special case of a Pr\"ufer domain (where $\star$ is equal to the identity semistar operation), we show that a nonzero prime $P$ of $D$ is sharp, that is, that $D_P \nsupseteq \bigcap D_M$, where the intersection is taken over the maximal ideals $M$ of $D$ that do not contain $P$, if and only if two closely related spectral semistar operations on $D$ differ. We then give an appropriate definition of $\star_f$-sharpness for an arbitrary P$\star$MD $D$ and show that a nonzero prime $P$ of $D$ is $\star_f$-sharp if and only if its extension to the $\star$-Nagata ring of $D$ is sharp. Calling a P$\star$MD $\star_f$-sharp ($\star_f$-doublesharp) if each maximal (prime) $\star_f$-ideal of $D$ is sharp, we also prove that such a $D$ is $\star_f$-doublesharp if and only if each $(\star, t)$-linked overring of $D$ is $\star_f$-sharp.

$\star $-super potent domains

For a finite-type star operation $\star$ on a domain $R$, we say that $R$ is $\star$-super potent if each maximal $\star$-ideal of $R$ contains a finitely generated ideal $I$ such that (1) $I$ is contained in no other maximal $\star$-ideal of $R$ and (2) $J$ is $\star$-invertible for every finitely generated ideal $J \supseteq I$. Examples of $t$-super potent domains include domains each of whose maximal $t$-ideals is $t$-invertible (e.g., Krull domains). We show that if the domain $R$ is $\star$-super potent for some finite-type star operation $\star$, then $R$ is $t$-super potent, we study $t$-super potency in polynomial rings and pullbacks, and we prove that a domain $R$ is a generalized Krull domain if and only if it is $% t $-super potent and has $t$-dimension one.

On $\star $-Power Conductor domains

Let $D$ be an integral domain and $\star $ a star operation defined on $D$. We say that $D$ is a $\star $-power conductor domain ($\star $-PCD) if for each pair $a,b\in D\backslash (0)$ and for each positive integer $n$ we have $Da^{n}\cap Db^{n}=((Da\cap Db)^{n})^{\ast }.$ We study $\star $-PCDs and characterize them as root closed domains satisfying $ ((a,b)^{n})^{-1}=(((a,b)^{-1})^{n})^{\star }$ for all nonzero $a,b$ and all natural numbers $n\geq 1$. From this it follows easily that Pr\"{u}fer domains are $d$-PCDs (where $d$ denotes the trivial star operation), and $v$ -domains (e.g., Krull domains) are $v$-PCDs, thereby establishing that a $v$ -domain (e.g., a Prufer or Krull domain) is a $\star $ -PCD. We also consider when a $\star $-PCD is completely integrally closed, and this leads to new characterizations of Krulll domains. In particular, we show that a Noetherian domain is a Krull domain if and only if it is a $w$ -PCD.

Toward a classification of prime ideals in Prüfer domains

The primary purpose of this paper is give a classification scheme for the nonzero primes of a Prüfer domain based on five properties. A prime $P$ of a Prüfer domain $R$ could be sharp or not sharp, antesharp or not, divisorial or not, branched or unbranched, idempotent or not. Based on these five basic properties, there are six types of maximal ideals and twelve types of nonmaximal (nonzero) primes. Both characterizations and examples are given for each type that exists.

w-Divisoriality in Polynomial Rings

We extend the Bass-Matlis characterization of local Noetherian divisorial domains to the non-Noetherian case. This result is then used to study the following question: If a domain D is w-divisorial, that is, if each w-ideal of D is divisorial, then is D[X] automatically w-divisorial? We show that the answer is yes if D is either integrally closed or Mori.

Factoring Ideals in Prüfer Domains

We show that in certain Prüfer domains, each nonzero ideal $I$ can be factored as $I=I^v Π$, where $I^v$ is the divisorial closure of $I$ and $Π$ is a product of maximal ideals. This is always possible when the Prüfer domain is $h$-local, and in this case such factorizations have certain uniqueness properties. This leads to new characterizations of the $h$-local property in Prüfer domains. We also explore consequences of these factorizations and give illustrative examples.

Integral Domains whose Simple Overrings are Intersections of Localizations

Call a domain $R$ an sQQR-domain if each simple overring of $R$, i.e., each ring of the form $R[u]$ with $u$ in the quotient field of $R$, is an intersection of localizations of $R$. We characterize Prüfer domains as integrally closed sQQR-domains. In the presence of certain finiteness conditions, we show that the sQQR-property is very strong; for instance, a Mori sQQR-domain must be a Dedekind domain. We also show how to construct sQQR-domains which have (non-simple) overrings which are not intersections of localizations.

The t#-property for intergral domains

We study a condition on intersections of localizations of a domain at maximal t-ideals. This extends and generalizes earlier work of Gilmer (1967), Gilmer-Heinzer (1968), Olberding (1998), and others for Prufer domains.
