Lipschitz regularity for fractional $p$-Laplacian with coercive gradients

In this article, we study nonlinear nonlocal equations with coercive gradient nonlinearity of the form \[ (-\Delta_p)^s u(x) + H(x, \nabla u) = f, \] where $f$ is Lipschitz continuous. We show that any viscosity solution $u$ is locally Lipschitz continuous, provided \[ p \in \left(1, \frac{2}{1-s}\right) \cup (1, m+1). \] We also establish H\"older continuity of subsolutions. Furthermore, in the case $f=0$ and $H$ is independent of $x$, we prove that the equation admits only the trivial solution in the class of bounded solutions, for all $m, p \in (1,\infty)$.

Ergodic pairs for fractional Hamilton-Jacobi equations on bounded domains: large solutions

In this article, we study the ergodic problem associated to viscous Hamilton-Jacobi equation where the diffusion is governed by the censored fractional Laplacian, a nonlocal elliptic operator restricted to a bounded domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^N$. We restrict ourselves to the case in which the nonlinear gradient term has a scaling less or equal than the fractional order of the diffusion. In similarity to its second-order counterpart, we provide existence of ergodic pairs involving solutions that blow-up on $\partial \Omega$. We use the celebrated vanishing discount method, where the analysis of the approximated solutions have its own interest, leading to qualitative properties for the ergodic problem such as precise blow-up rates for the solution and characterization of the ergodic constant. The main difficulties arise from the state-dependency of the operator, from which the arguments of the local case based on well-known invariance properties of the Laplacian are not longer at disposal.

Interior $C^{1,\alpha}$ regularity of mixed local-nonlocal $(p,q)$-energy minimizers for $p\leq sq$

We establish the local $C^{1, \alpha}$ regularity of minimizers for functionals of the form $$w\to \int_{\Omega}(|\nabla w|^p-fw) dx + \int_{\mathbb{R}^n}\int_{\mathbb{R}^n} \frac{|w(x)-w(y)|^q}{|x-y|^{n+sq}}dx\, dy,$$ where $s \in (0, 1)$, $1 < p \leq sq$, and $f \in L^\infty(\Omega)$. This result complements the work of De Filippis and Minigione in \cite{DFM}, thereby completing the proof of $C^{1,\alpha}$ regularity for all $p, q \in (1, \infty)$ and $s \in (0, 1)$ with locally bounded source term.

Degenerate Elliptic PDEs on a Network with Kirchhoff Conditions

In this article, we are interested in semilinear, possibly degenerate elliptic equations posed on a general network, with nonlinear Kirchhoff-type conditions for its interior vertices and Dirichlet boundary conditions for the boundary ones. The novelty here is the generality of the equations posed on each edge that is incident to a particular vertex, ranging from first-order equations to uniformly elliptic ones. Our main result is a strong comparison principle, i.e., a comparison result between discontinuous viscosity sub and supersolutions of such problems, from which we conclude the existence and uniqueness of a continuous viscosity by Perron's method. Further extensions are also discussed.

Lipschitz regularity of fractional $p$-Laplacian

In this article, we investigate the H\"{o}lder regularity of the fractional $p$-Laplace equation of the form $(-\Delta_p)^s u=f$ where $p>1, s\in (0, 1)$ and $f\in L^\infty_{\rm loc}(\Omega)$. Specifically, we prove that $u\in C^{0, \gamma_\circ}_{\rm loc}(\Omega)$ for $\gamma_\circ=\min\{1, \frac{sp}{p-1}\}$, provided that $\frac{sp}{p-1}\neq 1$. In particular, it shows that $u$ is locally Lipschitz for $\frac{sp}{p-1}>1$. Moreover, we show that for $\frac{sp}{p-1}=1$, the solution is locally Lipschitz, provided that $f$ is locally H\"{o}lder continuous. Additionally, we discuss further regularity results for the fractional double-phase problems.

Nonlocal Hamilton-Jacobi Equations on a network with Kirchhoff type conditions

In this article, we consider nonlocal Hamilton-Jacobi Equations on networks with Kirchhoff type conditions for the interior vertices and Dirichlet boundary conditions for the boundary ones: our aim is to provide general existence and comparison results in the case when the integro-differential operators are of order strictly less than 1. The main originality of these results is to allow these nonlocal terms to have contributions on several different edges of the network. The existence of Lipschitz continuous solutions is proved in two ways: either by using the vanishing viscosity method or by the usual Perron's method. The comparison proof relies on arguments introduced by Lions and Souganidis. We also introduce a notion of flux-limited solution, nonlocal analog to the one introduced by Imbert and Monneau, and prove that the solutions of the Kirchhoff problem are flux-limited solutions for a suitable flux-limiter. After treating in details the case when we only have one interior vertex, we extend our approach to treat general networks.

Comparison principle for general nonlocal Hamilton-Jacobi equations with superlinear gradient

We obtain the comparison principle for discontinuous viscosity sub- and supersolutions of nonlocal Hamilton-Jacobi equations, with superlinear and coercive gradient terms. The nonlocal terms are integro-differential operators in L\'evy form, with general measures: $x$-dependent, possibly degenerate and without any restriction on the order. The measures must satisfy a combined Wasserstein/Total Variation-continuity assumption, which is one of the weakest conditions used in the context of viscosity approach for this type of integro-differential PDEs. The proof relies on a regularizing effect due to the gradient growth. We present several examples of applications to PDEs with different types of nonlocal operators (measures with density, operators of variable order, L\'evy-It\^o operators).

Nonlocal Liouville theorems with gradient nonlinearity

In this article we consider a large family of nonlinear nonlocal equations involving gradient nonlinearity and provide a unified approach, based on the Ishii-Lions type technique, to establish Liouville properties of the solutions. We also answer an open problem raised by [24]. Some applications to regularity issues are also studied.

On fractional quasilinear equations with elliptic degeneracy

In this work, we present a systematic approach to investigate the existence, multiplicity, and local gradient regularity of solutions for nonlocal quasilinear equations with local gradient degeneracy. Our method involves an interactive geometric argument that interplays with uniqueness property for the corresponding homogeneous problem, leading with gradient H\"older regularity estimates. This approach is intrinsically developed for nonlocal scenarios, where uniqueness holds for the local homogeneous problem. We illustrate our results by showing classes of exterior data that exhibit multiple solutions, while also highlighting relevant cases where uniqueness is confirmed.

Nonlocal ergodic control problem in $\mathbb{R}^d$

We study the existence-uniqueness of solution $(u, \lambda)$ to the ergodic Hamilton-Jacobi equation $$(-\Delta)^s u + H(x, \nabla u) = f-\lambda\quad \text{in}\; \mathbb{R}^d,$$ and $u\geq 0$, where $s\in (\frac{1}{2}, 1)$. We show that the critical $\lambda=\lambda^*$, defined as the infimum of all $\lambda$ attaining a non-negative supersolution, attains a nonnegative solution $u$. Under suitable conditions, it is also shown that $\lambda^*$ is the supremum of all $\lambda$ for which a non-positive subsolution is possible. Moreover, uniqueness of the solution $u$, corresponding to $\lambda^*$, is also established. Furthermore, we provide a probabilistic characterization that determines the uniqueness of the pair $(u, \lambda^*)$ in the class of all solution pair $(u, \lambda)$ with $u\geq 0$. Our proof technique involves both analytic and probabilistic methods in combination with a new local Lipschitz estimate obtained in this article.

Large harmonic functions for fully nonlinear fractional operators

We study existence, uniqueness and boundary blow-up profile for fractional harmonic functions on a bounded smooth domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb R^N$. We deal with harmonic functions associated to uniformly elliptic, fully nonlinear nonlocal operators, including the linear case $$ (-\Delta)^s u = 0 \quad \mbox{in} \ \Omega, $$ where $(-\Delta)^s$ denotes the fractional Laplacian of order $2s \in (0,2)$. We use the viscosity solution's theory and Perron's method to construct harmonic functions with zero exterior condition in $\bar \Omega^c$, and boundary blow-up profile $$ \lim_{x\to x_0, x \in \Omega}\mathrm{dist}(x, \partial \Omega)^{1-s}u(x)=h(x_0), \quad \mbox{for all} \quad x_0\in \partial \Omega, $$ for any given boundary data $h \in C(\partial \Omega)$. Our method allows us to provide blow-up rate for the solution and its gradient estimates. Results are new even in the linear case.

Sign-changing solutions for the sinh-Poisson equation with Robin Boundary condition

Given $\epsilon \in (0,1)$ and $\lambda > 1$, we address the existence of solutions for the Sinh-Poisson equation with Robin boundary value condition $$ \begin{cases} \Delta u+\epsilon^2 (e^{u} - e^{-u})=0 &\mbox{in }\Omega\\ \frac{\partial u}{\partial\nu}+\lambda u=0 &\mbox{on }\partial\Omega, \end{cases} $$ where $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^2$ is a bounded smooth domain. We prove two existence results under a suitable relation between $\epsilon$ small and $\lambda$ large. When $\Omega$ is symmetric with respect to an axis, we prove the existence of a family of solutions $u_{\epsilon,\lambda}$ concentrating at two points with different spin, both located on the symmetry line and close to the boundary. In the second result, we assume $\Omega$ is not simply connected and we construct sign-changing solutions concentrating at points located close to the boundary, each of them on a different connected component of the boundary.

Periodic homogenization of the principal eigenvalue of second-order elliptic operators

In this paper we investigate homogenization results for the principal eigenvalue problem associated to $1$-homogeneous, uniformly elliptic, second-order operators. Under rather general assumptions, we prove that the principal eigenpair associated to an oscillatory operator converges to the eigenpair associated to the effective one. This includes the case of fully nonlinear operators. Rates of convergence for the eigenvalues are provided for linear and nonlinear problems, under extra regularity/convexity assumptions. Finally, a linear rate of convergence (in terms of the oscillation parameter) of suitably normalized eigenfunctions is obtained for linear problems.

On large solutions for fractional Hamilton-Jacobi equations

We study the existence of large solutions for nonlocal Dirichlet problems posed on a bounded, smooth domain, associated to fully nonlinear elliptic equations of order $2s$, with $s\in (1/2,1)$, and a coercive gradient term with subcritical power $0<p<2s$. Due to the nonlocal nature of the diffusion, new blow-up phenomena arise within the range $0<p<2s$, involving a continuum family of solutions and/or solutions blowing-up to $-\infty$ on the boundary. This is in striking difference with the local case studied by Lasry-Lions for the case subquadratic case $1<p<2$.

Rates of Convergence in Periodic Homogenization of Nonlocal Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman Equations

In this paper we provide a rate of convergence for periodic homogenization of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations with nonlocal diffusion. The result is based on the regularity of the associated effective problem, where the convexity plays a crucial role. Such regularity estimates are possible from the available literature once we provide a representation formula for the effective Hamiltonian, a result that has an independent interest.

The Nonlocal Inverse Problem of Donsker and Varadhan

In this paper we prove a nonlocal version of the celebrated Inverse Problem of Donsker and Varadhan~\cite{DV} for nonlocal elliptic operators of the form $$ \cL u = L_K u + \cB_K (h,u), $$ where $L_K$ is a uniformly elliptic nonlocal operator with smooth coefficients, and, for $h:\R^N \to \R$ smooth and bounded, $\cB_K(h,u)$ is the associated bilinear form, which can be regarded as a nonlocal transport term.

Fractional truncated Laplacians: representation formula, fundamental solutions and applications

In this note we introduce some nonlinear extremal nonlocal operators that approximate the, so called, truncated Laplacians. For these operators we construct representation formulas that lead to the construction of what, with an abuse of notation, could be called "fundamental solutions". This, in turn, leads to Liouville type results. The interest is double: on one hand we wish to "understand" what is the right way to define the nonlocal version of the truncated Laplacians, on the other, we introduce nonlocal operators whose nonlocality is on one dimensional lines, and this dramatically changes the prospective, as is quite clear from the results obtained that often differs significantly with the local case or with the case where the nonlocality is diffused. Surprisingly this is true also for operators that approximate the Laplacian.

Interior regularity results for fractional elliptic equations that degenerate with the gradient

In this paper we obtain interior regularity estimates for viscosity solutions of nonlocal Dirichlet problems that degenerate when the gradient of the solution vanishes. Interior H\"older estimates are obtained when the order of the fractional diffusion is less or equal than one, and Lipschitz estimates when it is bigger than one. In the latter case, the estimates are robust enough to conclude interior $C^{1, \alpha}$ regularity by an improvement of the flatness procedure, which is possible when the nonlocal term is close enough to a second-order diffusion.
