An integral formula for the inhomogeneous Jordan--von Neumann equation

We study the inhomogeneous form of the Jordan--von Neumann quadratic functional equation, in which the right-hand side is a prescribed function $g$ of two real variables. We prove that the existence of a $C^{2}$ solution is equivalent to $g$ being itself of class $C^{2}$ and satisfying a single three-variable cocycle identity, and we exhibit the solution as a closed-form integral expression involving the second partial derivative of $g $ along the first coordinate axis. The construction preserves regularity along the standard scale of $C^{k}$, smooth, and polynomial classes.

On the best Ulam constant of the linear differential operator with constant coefficients

The linear differential operator with constant coefficients $$D(y)=y^{(n)}+a_1 y^{(n-1)}+\ldots+a_n y,\quad y\in \mathcal{C}^{n}(\mathbb{R}, X)$$ acting in a Banach space $X$ is Ulam stable if and only if its characteristic equation has no roots on the imaginary axis. We prove that if the characteristic equation of $D$ has distinct roots $r_k$ satisfying $\Real r_k>0,$ $1\leq k\le n,$ then the best Ulam constant of $D$ is $K_D=\frac{1}{|V|}\int_{0}^{\infty}\left|\sum\limits_{k=1}^n(-1)^kV_ke^{-r_k x}\right|dx,$ where $V=V(r_1,r_2,\ldots,r_n)$ and $V_k=V(r_1,\ldots,r_{k-1},r_{k+1}, \ldots, r_n),$ $1\leq k\leq n,$ are Vandermonde determinants.

On the best Ulam constant of a higher order linear difference equation

In a Banach space $X$ the linear difference equation with constant coefficients $x_{n+p} = a_1x_{n+p-1} +\ldots + a_px_n,$ is Ulam stable if and only if the roots $r_k,$ $1\leq k\leq p,$ of its characteristic equation do not belong to the unit circle. If $|r_k| > 1,$ $1\leq k\leq p,$ we prove that the best Ulam constant of this equation is $ \frac{1}{|V|}\sum\limits_{s=1}^{\infty}|\frac{V_1}{r_1^s}-\frac{V_2}{r_2^s}+\ldots +\frac{(-1)^{p+1}V_p}{r_p^s}|,$ where $ V = V (r_1, r_2, \ldots, r_p)$ and $V_k =V (r_1,\ldots, r_{k-1}, r_{k+1},\ldots, r_p),$ $1\leq k\leq p,$ are Vadermonde determinants.

On the stability of the first order linear recurrence in topological vector spaces

Suppose that $\mathcal{X}$ is a sequentially complete Hausdorff locally convex space over a scalar field $\mathbb{K}$, $V$ is a bounded subset of $\mathcal{X}$, $(a_n)_{n\ge 0}$ is a sequence in $\mathbb{K}\setminus\{0\}$ with the property\ $\ds\liminf_{n\to\infty} |a_n|>1$ and $(b_n)_{n\ge 0}$ is a sequence in $\mathcal{X}$. We show that for every sequence $(x_n)_{n\ge 0}$ in $\mathcal{X}$ satisfying \begin{eqnarray*} x_{n+1}-a_nx_n-b_n\in V\q(n\geq 0) \end{eqnarray*} there exists a unique sequence $(y_n)_{n\ge 0}$ satisfying the recurrence $y_{n+1}=a_ny_n+b_n\,\,(n\geq 0)$ and for every $q$ with $1<q<\ds\liminf_{n\to\infty} |a_n|$, there exists $n_0\in \mathbb{N}$ such that \begin{eqnarray*} x_n-y_n\in \ds\f{1}{q-1}\ov{conv(V^b)}\q (n\geq n_0). \end{eqnarray*}
