Pulse-Controlled Topologically Protected Quantum Batteries

Quantum batteries have emerged as a promising new generation of energy-storage devices for powering quantum technologies. Long-distance charging is particularly attractive because it minimizes interference between the charger and the battery, thereby attracting considerable interest. Here, we propose a topologically protected long-distance charging protocol for quantum batteries based on a pulse-controlled superconducting qubit chain. By dynamically modulating the pulse-mediated couplings, we realize topologically protected energy transfer from the charger to the battery. We show that the charging process is free of energy backflow and remains robust against imperfections in pulse control. Moreover, the energy stored in the battery at the target time is fully extractable, and the protocol remains effective for relatively large system sizes. To further accelerate charging, we optimize the pulse shape and elucidate the underlying physical mechanism. Our pulse-controlled topological quantum battery protocol provides a versatile framework for implementing long-distance topological charging and establishes a theoretical foundation for designing optimal-control strategies to enhance quantum battery performance.

Measurement-Feedback Quantum Information Engine: Coherence-Transition Interference and Correlated Work Statistics

Measurement and feedback jointly prepare coherence and select finite-time dynamics in quantum information engines. Complementing a companion experimental realization, we develop a mechanism-resolved theory of the resulting work statistics and temporal correlations. The con?ditional work separates into population transfer and a phase-sensitive coherence-transition inter?ference term. Symmetric full counting statistics maps this interference to an equal-and-opposite half-quantum pair in the work quasiprobability, entering odd moments while leaving even moments fixed by endpoint mixing. An outcome-resolved tilted kernel then propagates these statistics through the correlated measurement record, yielding finite-cycle and fixed-time fluctuation corrections. The same memory reduces the reversible record-reset cost from the one-symbol entropy to the entropy rate. Our results link coherent work statistics, feedback memory, and information thermodynamics

Experimental Demonstration of a Measurement-Feedback Quantum Information Engine

Harnessing finite-time nonadiabatic transitions that are conventionally associated with quantum inner friction for useful work extraction remains an open experimental challenge. Here we address this issue by introducing and experimentally realizing an innovative measurement-feedback quantum information engine model in the trapped 40Ca+ ion system, in which the projective measurement replaces the hot reservoir as a nonthermal energy source and the feedback control conditionally steers the system through either unitary compression-expansion strokes or thermalization. We experimentally show that the repeated feedback cycle converges to a stable operating regime with a resolved energetic balance, and, by controlling the measurement angle and stroke duration, measurement-induced coherence and the finite-time nonadiabatic contribution can enhance work extraction and raise the efficiency above the corresponding Otto benchmark. The experimental results further show that, over finite ranges of stroke durations, the efficiency and intrinsic cycle power can increase simultaneously. Our experiment establishes a route toward information-to-work quantum engines that convert finite-time irreversibility into performance-enhancing resources.

NTIRE 2026 The 3rd Restore Any Image Model (RAIM) Challenge: Professional Image Quality Assessment (Track 1)

In this paper, we present an overview of the NTIRE 2026 challenge on the 3rd Restore Any Image Model in the Wild, specifically focusing on Track 1: Professional Image Quality Assessment. Conventional Image Quality Assessment (IQA) typically relies on scalar scores. By compressing complex visual characteristics into a single number, these methods fundamentally struggle to distinguish subtle differences among uniformly high-quality images. Furthermore, they fail to articulate why one image is superior, lacking the reasoning capabilities required to provide guidance for vision tasks. To bridge this gap, recent advancements in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) offer a promising paradigm. Inspired by this potential, our challenge establishes a novel benchmark exploring the ability of MLLMs to mimic human expert cognition in evaluating high-quality image pairs. Participants were tasked with overcoming critical bottlenecks in professional scenarios, centering on two primary objectives: (1) Comparative Quality Selection: reliably identifying the visually superior image within a high-quality pair; and (2) Interpretative Reasoning: generating grounded, expert-level explanations that detail the rationale behind the selection. In total, the challenge attracted nearly 200 registrations and over 2,500 submissions. The top-performing methods significantly advanced the state of the art in professional IQA. The challenge dataset is available at https://github.com/narthchin/RAIM-PIQA, and the official homepage is accessible at https://www.codabench.org/competitions/12789/.

MobileIQA: Exploiting Mobile-level Diverse Opinion Network For No-Reference Image Quality Assessment Using Knowledge Distillation

With the rising demand for high-resolution (HR) images, No-Reference Image Quality Assessment (NR-IQA) gains more attention, as it can ecaluate image quality in real-time on mobile devices and enhance user experience. However, existing NR-IQA methods often resize or crop the HR images into small resolution, which leads to a loss of important details. And most of them are of high computational complexity, which hinders their application on mobile devices due to limited computational resources. To address these challenges, we propose MobileIQA, a novel approach that utilizes lightweight backbones to efficiently assess image quality while preserving image details through high-resolution input. MobileIQA employs the proposed multi-view attention learning (MAL) module to capture diverse opinions, simulating subjective opinions provided by different annotators during the dataset annotation process. The model uses a teacher model to guide the learning of a student model through knowledge distillation. This method significantly reduces computational complexity while maintaining high performance. Experiments demonstrate that MobileIQA outperforms novel IQA methods on evaluation metrics and computational efficiency. The code is available at https://github.com/chencn2020/MobileIQA.

An Efficient Approach for Discovering Graph Entity Dependencies (GEDs)

Graph entity dependencies (GEDs) are novel graph constraints, unifying keys and functional dependencies, for property graphs. They have been found useful in many real-world data quality and data management tasks, including fact checking on social media networks and entity resolution. In this paper, we study the discovery problem of GEDs -- finding a minimal cover of valid GEDs in a given graph data. We formalise the problem, and propose an effective and efficient approach to overcome major bottlenecks in GED discovery. In particular, we leverage existing graph partitioning algorithms to enable fast GED-scope discovery, and employ effective pruning strategies over the prohibitively large space of candidate dependencies. Furthermore, we define an interestingness measure for GEDs based on the minimum description length principle, to score and rank the mined cover set of GEDs. Finally, we demonstrate the scalability and effectiveness of our GED discovery approach through extensive experiments on real-world benchmark graph data sets; and present the usefulness of the discovered rules in different downstream data quality management applications.

Quantum Otto engine with quantum correlations

We theoretically prose and investigate a photo-Otto engine that is working with a single-mode radiation field inside an optical cavity and alternatively driven by a hot and a cold reservoir, where the hot reservoir is realized by sending one of a pair of correlated two-level atoms to pass through the optical cavity, and the cold one is made of a collection of noninteracting boson modes. In terms of the quantum discord of the pair of atoms, we derive the analytical expressions for the performance parameters (power and efficiency) and stability measure (coefficient of variation for power). We show that quantum discord boosts the performance and efficiency of the quantum engine, and even may change the operation mode. We also demonstrate that quantum discord improves the stability of machine by decreasing the coefficient of variation for power which satisfies the generalized thermodynamic uncertainty relation. Finally, we find that these results can be transferred to another photo-Otto engine model, where the optical cavity is alternatively coupled to a hot thermal bosonic bath and to a beam of pairs of the two correlated atoms that play the role of a cold reservoir.

Thermodynamics and Fluctuations in Quantum Heat Engines under Reservoir Squeezing

We investigate the thermodynamics and fluctuations of a finite-time quantum Otto engine alternatively driven by a hot squeezed and a cold thermal reservoir. We show that reservoir squeezing significantly enhances the performance by increasing the thermodynamic efficiency and the power, and enables higher stability by decreasing the relative power fluctuations and speeding up the convergence of quantum efficiency to its most probable value. These results are explained by our theoretical analysis that incorporates the effect of reservoir squeezing on the irreversibility associated with quantum friction and coherence due to finite time. An experimental scheme for realizing this quantum heat engine is proposed using a single-electron spin pertaining to a trapped 40Ca$^+$ ion. We provide a general framework for reliably studying the finite-time quantum heat engine and derive important insights into the novel thermodynamic behaviors beyond the classical thermal machines.

Finite-time quantum Otto engine with a squeezed thermal bath: Role of quantum coherence and squeezing in the performance and fluctuations

We consider a finite-time quantum Otto heat engine that consists of two isochoric (thermal-contact) process, where the system is alternatively coupled to a hot squeezed and a cold thermal reservoir, and two unitary driven strokes, where the system is isolated from these two baths and its von Neumann entropy keeps constant. Both quantum inner friction and coherence are generated along the driven stroke and coherence cannot be fully erased after the finite-time hot isochore. Using full counting statistics, we present the probability distribution functions of heat injection and total work per cycle, which are dependent on the time duration along each process. With these, we derive the analytical expressions for the thermodynamic quantities of the two-level heat engine, such as total work, thermodynamic efficiency, entropy production, and work fluctuations, in which effects of coherence, squeezing, inner friction and finite-time heat exchange are included. We then numerically determine the thermodynamic quantities and the fluctuations using the parameters employed in the experimental implementation. Our results clarify the role of coherence and squeezing in the performance and fluctuations in the quantum Otto engines.

Theoretical study on the interfacial instability of a spherical droplet subject to vertical vibration

Interfacial instability would be aroused on a spherical liquid droplet when it is subject to external vertical vibration. In this paper, a linear analysis was conducted on this instability problem. The polar-angle dependent acceleration in the spherical coordinate is strongly coupled with the temporal and spatial component of the surface deformation displacement, which gives a recursion equation that implicitly expresses the dispersion relation between the growth rate and spherical mode numbers. The unstable regions (or unstable tongues) for the inviscid fluids considering latitudinal mode (longitudinal mode number m = 0) were derived and presented in the parameter plane. Compared with the solution of the spherical Faraday instability under radial vibration acceleration, the regions of harmonic unstable tongues for the mono-directional vibration case is much narrowed and the subharmonic unstable tongues almost become straight lines. The analysis shows that the latitudinal waves emerging on the spherical droplet surface ought to oscillate harmonically instead of subharmonically, which is opposite to the results for the case under radial vibration acceleration. A corresponding experiment of a liquid droplet lying on a vertically vibrating plate was conducted and the observations substantiate our theoretical predictions.

EP-GIG Priors and Applications in Bayesian Sparse Learning

In this paper we propose a novel framework for the construction of sparsity-inducing priors. In particular, we define such priors as a mixture of exponential power distributions with a generalized inverse Gaussian density (EP-GIG). EP-GIG is a variant of generalized hyperbolic distributions, and the special cases include Gaussian scale mixtures and Laplace scale mixtures. Furthermore, Laplace scale mixtures can subserve a Bayesian framework for sparse learning with nonconvex penalization. The densities of EP-GIG can be explicitly expressed. Moreover, the corresponding posterior distribution also follows a generalized inverse Gaussian distribution. These properties lead us to EM algorithms for Bayesian sparse learning. We show that these algorithms bear an interesting resemblance to iteratively re-weighted $\ell_2$ or $\ell_1$ methods. In addition, we present two extensions for grouped variable selection and logistic regression.
