Counterfactual Fairness Audits of Multi-Step Clinical LLM Agents Require a Measured Per-Action Instability Floor

Counterfactual audits are the standard tool for checking whether a clinical agent treats demographically distinct but clinically identical patients differently. They report a flip rate: how often an action changes when only the patient descriptor changes. We show that this quantity is uninterpretable on its own. Re-running an identical condition ten times over sixteen vignettes (same narrative, same descriptor string, nothing varied) moved a clinical agent's action in 8.7% of outcome-vignette cells, and instability was heterogeneous across actions by a factor of eight, from 0.022 for ICU escalation to 0.179 for controlled-substance caution. No demographic contrast in our data was distinguishable from that floor. A second model gives a pooled floor of 6.7% and ranks the six actions almost identically (Spearman 0.94, exact p=0.017), so the floor is not one system's artefact. Majority-vote aggregation over five draws removes 39% of it and then flattens, and a null simulation attributes the residue to heterogeneous per-cell rates, so replication mitigates without eliminating. Any counterfactual fairness estimate reported without a per-action floor beside it therefore cannot be read as evidence of disparity. The measurements were taken with FairMedAgent, an evaluation harness for disparity in the actions of clinical LLM agents whose estimand, the within-range counterfactual flip rate, counts only flips between actions a published decision rule admits and a clinician has adjudicated. That estimand requires band adjudication, which is under way; no disparity result is claimed here. Each synthetic vignette runs a six-stage trajectory (five model-facing decisions around a deterministic environment step) under fixed-form conditions spanning race, sex, age, insurance, English proficiency, and their intersections. The harness, the floor protocol, and every analysis script are released.

Generating crossmodal gene expression from cancer histopathology improves multimodal AI predictions

Emerging research has highlighted that artificial intelligence-based multimodal fusion of digital pathology and transcriptomic features can improve cancer diagnosis (grading/subtyping) and prognosis (survival risk) prediction. However, such direct fusion is impractical in clinical settings, where histopathology remains the gold standard and transcriptomic tests are rarely requested in public healthcare. We experiment on two publicly available multimodal datasets, The Cancer Genomic Atlas and the Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium, spanning four independent cohorts: glioma-glioblastoma, renal, uterine, and breast, and observe significant performance gains in gradation and risk estimation (p-value<0.05) when incorporating synthesized transcriptomic data with WSIs. Also, predictions using synthesized features were statistically close to those obtained with real transcriptomic data (p-value>0.05), consistently across cohorts. Here we show that with our diffusion based crossmodal generative AI model, PathGen, gene expressions synthesized from digital histopathology jointly predict cancer grading and patient survival risk with high accuracy (state-of-the-art performance), certainty (through conformal coverage guarantee) and interpretability (through distributed co-attention maps). PathGen code is available for open use on GitHub at https://github.com/Samiran-Dey/PathGen.

Semi-entwining structures and their applications

Semi-entwining structures are proposed as concepts simpler than entwining structures, yet they are shown to have interesting applications in constructing intertwining operators and braided algebras, lifting functors, finding solutions for Yang-Baxter systems, etc. While for entwining structures one can associate corings, for semi-entwining structures one can associate comodule algebra structures where the algebra involved is a bialgebra satisfying certain properties.

New constructions of Yang-Baxter systems

The quantum Yang-Baxter equation admits generalisations to systems of Yang-Baxter type equations called Yang-Baxter systems. Starting from algebra structures, we propose new constructions of some constant as well as the spectral-parameter dependent Yang-Baxter systems. Besides, we also present explicitly the commutation algebra structure associated to the constant type in dimension two.

Spectral-parameter dependent Yang-Baxter operators and Yang-Baxter systems from algebra structures

For any algebra two families of coloured Yang-Baxter operators are constructed, thus producing solutions to the two-parameter quantum Yang-Baxter equation. An open problem about a system of functional equations is stated. The matrix forms of these operators for two and three dimensional algebras are computed. A FRT bialgebra for one of these families is presented. Solutions for the one-parameter quantum Yang-Baxter equation are derived and a Yang-Baxter system constructed.

Construction of the generalised q-derivative operators

This investigation pertains to the construction of a class of generalised deformed derivative operators which furnish the familiar finite difference and the q-derivatives as special cases. The procedure involves the introduction of a linear operator which is multiplicative over functions of a real variable. The validity of the general prescriptions is ascertained by considering suitable examples of such derivatives and constructing their eigenfunctions explicitly. The relationship of a particular version of the operator with the one-dimensional Mobius transformation is also established.

Differential calculus on a novel cross-product quantum algebra

We investigate the algebro-geometric structure of a novel two-parameter quantum deformation which exhibits the nature of a semidirect or cross-product algebra built upon GL(2) x GL(1), and is related to several other known examples of quantum groups. Following the R-matrix framework, we construct the L+/- functionals and address the problem of duality for this quantum group. This naturally leads to the construction of a bicovariant differential calculus that depends only on one deformation parameter, respects the cross-product structure and has interesting applications. The corresponding Jordanian and hybrid deformation is also explored.

The coloured quantum plane

We study the quantum plane associated to the coloured quantum group GL_{q}^{λ,μ}(2) and solve the problem of constructing the corresponding differential geometric structure. This is achieved within the R-matrix framework generalising the Wess-Zumino formalism and leads to the concept of coloured quantum space. Both, the coloured Manin plane as well as the bicovariant differential calculus exhibit the colour exchange symmetry. The coloured h-plane corresponding to the coloured Jordanian quantum group GL_{h}^{λ,μ}(2) is also obtained by contraction of the coloured q-plane.

On the biparametric quantum deformation of GL(2) x GL(1)

We study the biparametric quantum deformation of GL(2) x GL(1) and exhibit its cross-product structure. We derive explictly the associated dual algebra, i.e., the quantised universal enveloping algebra employing the R-matrix procedure. This facilitates construction of a bicovariant differential calculus which is also shown to have a cross-product structure. Finally, a Jordanian analogue of the deformation is presented as a cross-product algebra.

Coloured extension of GL_q(2) and its dual algebra

We address the problem of duality between the coloured extension of the quantised algebra of functions on a group and that of its quantised universal enveloping algebra i.e. its dual. In particular, we derive explicitly the algebra dual to the coloured extension of GL_q(2) using the coloured RLL relations and exhibit its Hopf structure. This leads to a coloured generalisation of the R-matrix procedure to construct a bicovariant differential calculus on the coloured version of GL_q(2). In addition, we also propose a coloured generalisation of the geometric approach to quantum group duality given by Sudbery and Dobrev.

Duality for Coloured Quantum Groups

Duality between the coloured quantum group and the coloured quantum algebra corresponding to GL(2) is established. The coloured L^{\pm} functionals are constructed and the dual algebra is derived explicitly. These functionals are then employed to give a coloured generalisation of the differential calculus on quantum GL(2) within the framework of the R-matrix approach.

On some two parameter Quantum and Jordanian deformations, and their Coloured extensions

This paper suveys some recent algebraic developments in two parameter Quantum deformations and their Nonstandard (or Jordanian) counterparts. In particular, we discuss the contraction procedure and the quantum group homomorphisms associated to these deformations. The scheme is then set in the wider context of the coloured extensions of these deformations, namely, the so-called Coloured Quantum Groups.

Duality for the G_r,s Quantum Group

The two parameter quantum group G_r,s is generated by five elements, four of which form a Hopf subalgebra isomorphic to GL_q(2), while the fifth generator relates G_r,s to GL_p,q(2). We construct explicitly the dual algebra of G_r,s and show that it is isomorphic to the single parameter deformation of gl(2) + gl(1), with the second parameter appearing in the costructure. We also formulate a differential calculus on G_r,s which provides a realisation of the calculus on GL_p,q(2).

Contraction of the G_r,s Quantum Group to its Nonstandard analogue and corresponding Coloured Quantum Groups

The quantum group G_r,s provides a realisation of the two parameter quantum GL_p,q(2) which is known to be related to the two parameter nonstandard GL_hh'(2) group via a contraction method. We apply the contraction procedure to G_r,s and obtain a new Jordanian quantum group G_m,k. Furthermore, we provide a realisation of GL_h,h'(2) in terms of G_m,k. The contraction procedure is then extended to the coloured quantum group GL_r{\lambda,\mu}(2) to yield a new Jordanian quantum group GL_m{\lambda,\mu}(2). Both G_r,s and G_m,k are then generalised to their coloured versions which inturn provide similar realisations of GL_r{\lambda,\mu}(2) and GL_m{\lambda,\mu}(2).

Realisations of Quantum GL_p,q(2) and Jordanian GL_h,h'(2)

The quantum group GL_p,q(2) is known to be related to the Jordanian GL_h,h'(2) via a contraction procedure. It can also be realised using the generators of the Hopf algebra G_r,s. We contract the G_r,s quantum group to obtain its Jordanian analogue G_m,k, which provides a realisation of GL_h,h'(2) in a manner similar to the q-deformed case.
