Rubio de Francia's Extrapolation Theorem and Sparse Bounds

Sparse bounds have proved to be a powerful tool which simplify the understanding of many important operators in harmonic analysis. The existence of a sparse bound for an operator implies the weighted boundedness of the operator for weights within the Muckenhoupt classes. As in the example of Calder\'on-Zygmund operators, this implication can prove weighted boundedness with the best possible dependency on the characteristic constant of the Muckenhoupt weight. In this paper, we prove a partial converse for sub-additive operators by showing that weighted boundedness, with an arbitrary a priori control of the operator norm in terms of the characteristic constants of the weight, implies the existence of sparse form bounds. This result implies that a near-optimal dependency of the operator norm on characteristic constants of the weights follows from the weighted boundedness itself, rather than relying on the particular structure of the sub-additive operator. Moreover, it allows Rubio de Francia's extrapolation theorem to be extended to the weak-type end-point for sub-linear operators and leads to an interpolation result for sparse form bounds for analytic families of operators. As an application, we obtain new sparse form bounds for rough singular integral operators.

Sparse Bounds for Rough Fourier Integral Operators

We prove pointwise bounds for rough Fourier integral operators by the $L^p$ Hardy-Littlewood maximal function. We assume the Fourier integral operators have amplitudes in $L^\infty S^m_\rho$ and phases $\varphi$ such that $\varphi(x,\xi) - x\cdot\xi \in L^\infty \Phi^1$, and assume a non-degeneracy condition on the matrix $\partial^2_\xi\varphi(x,\xi)$. The pointwise bound holds when \begin{equation*} m < -\frac{\rho}{2}(n-1) - \frac{\rho}{p} - \frac{n}{p}(1-\rho), \end{equation*} which is known to a be sharp condition on $m$ when $\rho=1$, modulo the end-point. Making use of this pointwise bound and known $L^p$ boundedness results when the phase satisfies an additional non-degeneracy condition, we go on to prove sparse form bounds for these operators.

Some More Sparse Bounds for Rough and Smooth Pseudodifferential Operators

Beltran \& Cladek~\cite{BC} use $L^r$ to $L^s$ bounds to prove sparse form bounds for pseudodifferential operators with H\"ormander symbols in $S^m_{\rho,\delta}$ up to, but not including, the sharp end-point in decay $m$. We further develop their technique, obtaining pointwise sparse bounds for rough pseudodifferential operators that are merely measurable in their spatial variables and an alternative proof of their results which avoids proving geometrically decaying sparse bounds. We also provide sufficient conditions for sparse form bounds to hold and use these to reprove know sparse bounds for pseudodifferential operators with symbols in $S^0_{1,\delta}$ for $\delta < 1$.

Multilinear oscillatory integrals and estimates for coupled systems of dispersive PDEs

We establish sharp global regularity of a class of multilinear oscillatory integral operators that are associated to nonlinear dispersive equations with both Banach and quasi-Banach target spaces. As a consequence we also prove the (local in time) continuous dependence on the initial data for solutions of a large class of coupled systems of dispersive partial differential equations.

Global boundedness of multilinear Fourier integral operators

We establish global regularity of multilinear Fourier integral operators that are associated to nonlinear wave equations on product of $L^p$ spaces by proving endpoint boundedness on suitable products spaces containing combinations of the local Hardy space, the local BMO and the $L^2$ spaces.

A two dimensional model of curvilinear blood vessels with layered elastic walls

We present a two dimensional model describing the elastic behaviour of the wall of a curved blood vessel. The wall has a laminate structure consisting of several anisotropic layers of varying thickness and is assumed to be much smaller in thickness than the radius of the vessel which itself is allowed to vary. Our two-dimensional model takes the interaction of the wall with the surrounding tissue and the blood flow into account and is obtained via a dimension reduction procedure. The curvature and twist of the vessel axis as well as the anisotropy of the laminate wall present the main challenges in applying the dimension reduction procedure so plenty of examples of canonical shapes of vessels and their walls are supplied with explicit systems of differential equations at the end.

A Seeger-Sogge-Stein theorem for bilinear Fourier integral operators

We establish the regularity of bilinear Fourier integral operators with bilinear amplitudes in $S^m_{1,0} (n,2)$ and non-degenerate phase functions, from $L^p \times L^q \to L^r$ under the assumptions that $m\leq -(n-1)(|\frac{1}{p}-\frac{1}{2}|+|\frac{1}{q}-\frac{1}{2}|)$ and $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{q}=\frac{1}{r}$. This is a bilinear version of the classical theorem of Seeger-Sogge-Stein concerning the $L^p$ boundedness of linear Fourier integral operators. Moreover, our result goes beyond the aforementioned theorem in that it also includes the case of non-Banach target spaces.

Boundary value problems for degenerate elliptic equations and systems

We study boundary value problems for degenerate elliptic equations and systems with square integrable boundary data. We can allow for degeneracies in the form of an $A_{2}$ weight. We obtain representations and boundary traces for solutions in appropriate classes, perturbation results for solvability and solvability in some situations. The technology of earlier works of the first two authors can be adapted to the weighted setting once the needed quadratic estimate is established and we even improve some results in the unweighted setting. The proof of this quadratic estimate does not follow from earlier results on the topic and is the core of the article.

The Boundary value problems for second order elliptic operators satisfying a Carleson condition

Let $\Omega$ be a Lipschitz domain in $\mathbb R^n$ $n\geq 2,$ and $L=\mbox{div} (A\nabla\cdot)$ be a second order elliptic operator in divergence form. We establish solvability of the Dirichlet regularity problem with boundary data in $H^{1,p}(\partial\Omega)$ and of the Neumann problem with $L^p(\partial\Omega)$ data for the operator $L$ on Lipschitz domains with small Lipschitz constant. We allow the coefficients of the operator $L$ to be rough obeying a certain Carleson condition with small norm. These results complete the results of [5] where $L^p(\partial\Omega)$ Dirichlet problem was considered under the same assumptions and [6] where the regularity and Neumann problems were considered on two dimensional domains.

On the stability of a forward-backward heat equation

In this paper we examine spectral properties of a family of periodic singular Sturm-Liouville problems which are highly non-self-adjoint but have purely real spectrum. The problem originated from the study of the lubrication approximation of a viscous fluid film in the inner surface of a rotating cylinder and has received a substantial amount of attention in recent years. Our main focus will be the determination of Schatten class inclusions for the resolvent operator and regularity properties of the associated evolution equation.
