Hadronic Vacuum Polarization Contribution to $\boldsymbol{g_{\mu}-2}$ as a function of the external lepton mass

The hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of a lepton is considered as a function of the lepton mass. We show how the analyticity properties of this function allow for its full reconstruction when it is only known in a restricted mass region. Assuming that LQCD could evaluate it in an optimal mass region we show, within the framework of a phenomenological model, how to reconstruct the function elsewhere, in particular at the muon mass value.

On the Time Momentum Representation of Hadronic Vacuum Polarization and $\boldsymbol{g_{\mu}-2}$

We propose a new set of model independent approximants adapted to the time momentum representation (TMR) of hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP) and its contribution to $g_{\mu}-2$. They provide a way to extrapolate lattice QCD (LQCD) results obtained in an optimal time-region, to the full range required for an evaluation of the HVP contribution to $g_{\mu}-2$. They offer as well a new way to confront LQCD results in restricted TMR regions, with the full contribution obtained from data driven determinations.

Hadronic Vacuum Polarization and the MUonE proposal

The MUonE proposal at the CERN SPS consists in extracting the value of the hadronic vacuum polarization self-energy function (HVP) from its contribution to the differential cross-section of elastic muon-electron scattering. The HVP contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment can then be obtained from a weighted integral of the measured HVP self-energy function. This, however, requires a knowledge of the HVP function in its full integration domain. This paper discusses a procedure to reconstruct the HVP function in the regions not directly accessible to measurement. The method is based on the so-called transfer theorems, due to Flajolet and Odlyzko, which we explain and adapt to HVP.

On axials and pseudoscalars in the hadronic light-by-light contribution to the muon $(g-2)$

Despite recent developments, there are a number of conceptual issues on the hadronic light-by-light (HLbL) contribution to the muon $(g-2)$ which remain unresolved. One of the most controversial ones is the precise way in which short-distance constraints get saturated by resonance exchange, particularly in the so-called Melnikov-Vainshtein (MV) limit. In this paper we address this and related issues from a novel perspective, employing a warped five-dimensional model as a tool to generate a consistent realization of QCD in the large-$N_c$ limit. This approach differs from previous ones in that we can work at the level of an effective action, which guarantees that unitarity is preserved and the chiral anomaly is consistently implemented at the hadronic level. We use the model to evaluate the inclusive contribution of Goldstone modes and axial-vector mesons to the HLbL. We find that both anomaly matching and the MV constraint cannot be fulfilled with a finite number of resonances (including the pion) and instead require an infinite number of axial-vector states. Our numbers for the HLbL point at a non-negligible role of axial-vector mesons, which is closely linked to a correct implementation of QCD short-distance constraints.

Matching long and short distances at order ${\mathcal O}(\alpha_s)$ in the form factors for $K\to\pi \ell^+\ell^-$

At order ${\mathcal O}(\alpha G_{\mathrm F})$, the amplitudes for the decays $K\to\pi \ell^+\ell^-$ involve a form factor given by the matrix element of the time-ordered product of the electromagnetic current with the four-quark operators describing weak non-leptonic neutral-current transitions between a kaon and a pion. The short-distance behaviour of this time-ordered product, when considered at order ${\mathcal O}(\alpha_s)$ in the perturbative expansion of QCD, involves terms linear and quadratic in the logarithm of the Euclidean momentum transfer squared. It is shown how one can exactly match these short-distance features using a dispersive representation of the form factor, with an absorptive part given by an infinite sum of zero-width resonances following a Regge-type spectrum. Some phenomenology-related issues are briefly discussed.

On the amplitudes for the CP-conserving $K^\pm(K_S)\to\pi^\pm(\pi^0)\ell^+\ell^-$ rare decay modes

The amplitudes for the rare decay modes $K^\pm\to\pi^\pm\ell^+\ell^-$ and $K_S\to\pi^0\ell^+\ell^-$ are studied with the aim of obtaining predictions for them, such as to enable the possibility to search for violations of lepton-flavour universality in the kaon sector. The issue is first addressed from the perspective of the low-energy expansion, and a two-loop representation of the corresponding form factors is constructed, leaving as unknown quantities their values and slopes at vanishing momentum transfer. In a second step a phenomenological determination of the latter is proposed. It consists of the contribution of the resonant two-pion state in the $P$ wave, and of the leading short-distance contribution determined by the operator-product expansion. The interpolation between the two energy regimes is described by an infinite tower of zero-width resonances matching the QCD short-distance behaviour. Finally, perspectives for future improvements in the theoretical understanding of these amplitudes are discussed.

The Mellin-Barnes Approach to Hadronic Vacuum Polarization and $g_{\mu}-2$

It is shown that with a precise determination of a few derivatives of the hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP) self-energy function $\Pi(Q^2)$ at $Q^2=0$, from lattice QCD (LQCD) or from a dedicated low-energy experiment, one can obtain an evaluation of the lowest order HVP contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon $a_{\mu}^{\rm HVP}$ with an accuracy comparable to the one reached using the $e^+ e^-$ annihilation cross-section into hadrons. The technique of Mellin-Barnes approximants (MBa) that we propose is illustrated in detail with the example of the two loop vacuum polarization function in QED. We then apply it to the first few moments of the hadronic spectral function obtained from experiment and show that the resulting MBa evaluations of $a_{\mu}^{\rm HVP}$ converge very quickly to the full experimental determination.

Assuming Regge trajectories in holographic QCD: from OPE to Chiral Perturbation Theory

The soft wall model in holographic QCD has Regge trajectories but wrong operator product expansion (OPE) for the two-point vectorial QCD Green function. We modify the dilaton potential to comply OPE. We study also the axial two-point function using the same modified dilaton field and an additional scalar field to address chiral symmetry breaking. OPE is recovered adding a boundary term and low energy chiral parameters, $F_\pi$ and $L_{10}$, are well described analytically by the model in terms of Regge spacing and QCD condensates. The model nicely supports and extends previous theoretical analyses advocating Digamma function to study QCD two-point functions in different momentum regions.

Epsilon expansion of Appell and Kampé de Fériet functions

The decomposition in partial fractions of the quotient of Pochhammer symbols improves considerably a method, suggested in a precedent paper, which allows one to obtain the $\varepsilon$-expansion of functions of the hypergeometric class. The procedure is applied to several Appell and Kampé de Fériet functions considered in the literature. Explicit expressions and interesting properties of the derivatives of the Pochhammer and reciprocal Pochhammer symbols, which are essential elements in the procedure, are given in an appendix.

Asymptotic Behaviour of Pion--Pion Total Cross-Sections

We derive a sum rule which shows that the Froissart-Martin bound for the asymptotic behaviour of the $ππ$ total cross sections at high energies, if modulated by the Lukaszuk-Martin coefficient of the leading $\log^2 s$ behaviour, cannot be an optimal bound in QCD. We next compute the total cross sections for $π^+ π^-$, $π^{\pm} π^0$ and $π^0 π^0$ scattering within the framework of the constituent chiral quark model (C$χ$QM) in the limit of a large number of colours $\Nc$ and discuss their asymptotic behaviours. The same $ππ$ cross sections are also discussed within the general framework of Large-\Nc~QCD and we show that it is possible to make an Ansatz for the isospin $I=1$ and $I=0$ spectrum which satisfy the Froissart-Martin bound with coefficients which, contrary to the Lukaszuk-Martin coefficient, are not singular in the chiral limit and have the correct Large-\Nc~counting. We finally propose a simple phenomenological model which matches the low energy behaviours of the $σ_{π^{\pm}π^0}^{\rm total}(s)$ cross section predicted by the C$χ$QM with the high energy behaviour predicted by the Large-$\Nc$ Ansatz. The magnitude of these cross sections at very high energies is of the order of those observed for the $pp$ and $p{\bar p}$ scattering total cross sections.

Standard Model and New Physics contributions to $K_L$ and $K_S$ into four leptons

We study the $K_L$ and $K_S$ decays into four leptons ($e\bar{e}e\bar{e}, \, μ\barμμ\barμ,\, e\bar{e}μ\barμ$) where we use a form factor motivated by vector meson dominance, and show the dependence of the branching ratios and spectra from the slopes. A precise determination of short distance contribution to $K_L\to μμ$ is affected by our ignorance on the sign of the amplitude $\mathcal{A}(K_L\to γγ)$ but we show a possibility to measure the sign of this amplitude by studying $K_L$ and $K_S$ decays in four leptons. We also investigate the effect of New Physics contributions for these decays.

The Froissart--Martin Bound for $ππ$ Scattering in QCD

The Froissart--Martin bound for total $ππ$ scattering cross sections is reconsidered in the light of QCD properties such as spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and the counting rules for a large number of colours $\Nc$.

A new approach to the epsilon expansion of generalized hypergeometric functions

Assumed that the parameters of a generalized hypergeometric function depend linearly on a small variable $\varepsilon$, the successive derivatives of the function with respect to that small variable are evaluated at $\varepsilon=0$ to obtain the coefficients of the $\varepsilon$-expansion of the function. The procedure, quite naive, benefits from simple explicit expressions of the derivatives, to any order, of the Pochhammer and reciprocal Pochhammer symbols with respect to their argument. The algorithm may be used algebraically, irrespective of the values of the parameters. It reproduces the exact results obtained by other authors in cases of especially simple parameters. Implemented numerically, the procedure improves considerably the numerical expansions given by other methods.

Hadronic Contributions to the Muon Anomaly in the Constituent Chiral Quark Model

The hadronic contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon which are relevant for the confrontation between theory and experiment at the present level of accuracy, are evaluated within the same framework: the constituent chiral quark model. This includes the contributions from the dominant hadronic vacuum polarization as well as from the next--to--leading order hadronic vacuum polarization, the contributions from the hadronic light-by-light scattering, and the contributions from the electroweak hadronic $Z\gamma\gamma$ vertex. They are all evaluated as a function of only one free parameter: the constituent quark mass. We also comment on the comparison between our results and other phenomenological evaluations.

On convergent series representations of Mellin-Barnes integrals

Multiple Mellin-Barnes integrals are often used for perturbative calculations in particle physics. In this context, the evaluation of such objects may be performed through residues calculations which lead to their expression as multiple series in powers and logarithms of the parameters involved in the problem under consideration. However, in most of the cases, several series representations exist for a given integral. They converge in different regions of values of the parameters, and it is not obvious to obtain them. For twofold integrals we present a method which allows to derive straightforwardly and systematically: (a) different sets of poles which correspond to different convergent double series representations of a given integral, (b) the regions of convergence of all these series (without an a priori full knowledge of their general term), and (c) the general term of each series (this may be performed, if necessary, once the relevant domain of convergence has been found). This systematic procedure is illustrated with some integrals which appear, among others, in the calculation of the two-loop hexagon Wilson loop in N = 4 SYM theory. Mellin-Barnes integrals of higher dimension are also considered.

Analytic Reconstruction of heavy-quark two-point functions at O(α_s^3)

Using a method previously developed, based on the Mellin-Barnes transform, we reconstruct the two-point correlators in the vector, axial, scalar and pseudoscalar channels from the Taylor expansion at q^2=0, the threshold expansion at q^2=4m^2 and the OPE at q^2\rightarrow -\infty, where m is the heavy quark mass. The reconstruction is analytic and systematic and is controlled by an error function which becomes smaller as more terms in those expansions are known.

Non-Perturbative Asymptotic Improvement of Perturbation Theory and Mellin-Barnes Representation

Using a method mixing Mellin-Barnes representation and Borel resummation we show how to obtain hyperasymptotic expansions from the (divergent) formal power series which follow from the perturbative evaluation of arbitrary "$N$-point" functions for the simple case of zero-dimensional $\phi^4$ field theory. This hyperasymptotic improvement appears from an iterative procedure, based on inverse factorial expansions, and gives birth to interwoven non-perturbative partial sums whose coefficients are related to the perturbative ones by an interesting resurgence phenomenon. It is a non-perturbative improvement in the sense that, for some optimal truncations of the partial sums, the remainder at a given hyperasymptotic level is exponentially suppressed compared to the remainder at the preceding hyperasymptotic level. The Mellin-Barnes representation allows our results to be automatically valid for a wide range of the phase of the complex coupling constant, including Stokes lines. A numerical analysis is performed to emphasize the improved accuracy that this method allows to reach compared to the usual perturbative approach, and the importance of hyperasymptotic optimal truncation schemes.
