Clean up your Mesh! Part 1: Plane and simplex

We revisit the geometric foundations of mesh representation through the lens of Plane-based Geometric Algebra (PGA), questioning its efficiency and expressiveness for discrete geometry. We find how $k$-simplices (vertices, edges, faces, ...) and $k$-complexes (point clouds, line complexes, meshes, ...) can be written compactly as joins of vertices and their sums, respectively. We show how a single formula for their $k$-magnitudes (amount, length, area, ...) follows naturally from PGA's Euclidean and Ideal norms. This idea is then extended to produce unified coordinate-free formulas for classical results such as volume, centre of mass, and moments of inertia for simplices and complexes of arbitrary dimensionality. Finally we demonstrate the practical use of these ideas on some real-world examples.

Lepton Triptych I: Geometric Foundations of Electroweak Symmetry in the Real Clifford Algebra $\text{Cl}_4(\mathbb{R})$

This paper investigates how the spinor space of the electroweak gauge group $\text{SU}_{I}(2) \times \text{U}_{Y}(1)$ can be derived using recent geometric techniques within the real Clifford Algebra $\mathbb{R}_4 = \text{Cl}_4(\mathbb{R})$. Central to this approach is a novel procedure for constructing the spinor space of $\mathbb{R}_4$ directly, without complexification or matrix representation. In fact, the defining projector of the spinor space corresponds to the zero matrix in the defining representation of $\text{SU}(2)$, and hence this construction has no $2 \times 2$ complex matrix counterpart. We subsequently show that the spinor space of $\mathbb{R}_4$ naturally accommodates irreducible representations (irreps) for a single generation of chiral Standard Model leptons, including a sterile right-chiral neutrino. Left- and right-chiral particles arise due to the grade-parity of the irreps, explaining geometrically why weak isospin acts exclusively on left-chiral states. This manuscript shows how the real Clifford algebra $\mathbb{R}_4$ is the smallest algebra to house irreps for both the $\text{SU}_{I}(2) \times \text{U}_{Y}(1)$ gauge bosons and the Standard Model leptons. Simultaneously the geometric approach presents a way to compute interactions that does not depend on irreps, but which instead allows computations on the higher level of bosons and leptons. The emergence of the correct interactions directly from first principles highlights the promise of this framework not only for the geometric foundations of Electroweak Theory, but also for the Standard Model and Grand Unified Theories more broadly. This paper is the first panel of the Lepton Triptych, which will ultimately present the full Yang-Mills theory of the electroweak model based on these principles.

Outer and Eigen: Tangent Concepts

In this paper we use the power of the outer exponential $\Lambda^B$ of a bivector $B$ to see the so-called invariant decomposition from a different perspective. This is deeply connected with the eigenvalues for the adjoint action of $B$, a fact that allows a version of the Cayley-Hamilton theorem which factorises the classical theorem (both the matrix version and the geometric algebra version).

From Invariant Decomposition to Spinors

Plane-based Geometric Algebra (PGA) has revealed points in a $d$-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}_{p,q,1}$ to be represented by $d$-blades rather than vectors. This discovery allows points to be factored into $d$ orthogonal hyperplanes, establishing points as pseudoscalars of a local geometric algebra $\mathbb{R}_{pq}$. Astonishingly, the non-uniqueness of this factorization reveals the existence of a local $\text{Spin}(p,q)$ geometric gauge group at each point. Moreover, a point can alternatively be factored into a product of the elements of the Cartan subalgebra of $\mathfrak{spin}(p,q)$, which are traditionally used to label spinor representations. Therefore, points reveal previously hidden geometric foundations for some of quantum field theory's mysteries. This work outlines the impact of PGA on the study of spinor representations in any number of dimensions, and is the first in a research programme exploring the consequences of this insight.

A Hermitian refinement of symplectic Clifford analysis

In this paper we develop the Hermitian refinement of symplectic Clifford analysis, by introducing a complex structure $\mathbb{J}$ on the canonical symplectic manifold $(\mathbb {R}^{2n},\omega_0)$. This gives rise to two symplectic Dirac operators $D_s$ and $D_t$ (in the sense of Habermann), leading to a $\mathfrak{u}(n)$-invariant system of equations on $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$. We discuss the solution space for this system, culminating in a Fischer decomposition for the space of polynomials on $\mathbb {R}^{2n}$ with values in the symplectic spinors. To make this decomposition explicit, we will construct the associated embedding factors using a transvector algebra.

Branching symplectic monogenics using a Mickelsson--Zhelobenko algebra

In this paper we consider (polynomial) solution spaces for the symplectic Dirac operator (with a focus on $1$-homogeneous solutions). This space forms an infinite-dimensional representation space for the symplectic Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sp}(2m)$. Because $\mathfrak{so}(m)\subset \mathfrak{sp}(2m)$, this leads to a branching problem which generalises the classical Fischer decomposition in harmonic analysis. Due to the infinite nature of the solution spaces for the symplectic Dirac operators, this is a non-trivial question: both the summands appearing in the decomposition and their explicit embedding factors will be determined in terms of a suitable Mickelsson-Zhelobenko algebra.

The orthogonal branching problem for symplectic monogenics

In this paper we study the sp(2m)-invariant Dirac operator Ds which acts on symplectic spinors, from an orthogonal point of view. By this we mean that we will focus on the subalgebra so(m), as this will allow us to derive branching rules for the space of 1-homogeneous polynomial solutions for the operator Ds (hence generalising the classical Fischer decomposition in harmonic analysis for a vector variable in Rm). To arrive at this result we use techniques from representation theory, including the transvector algebra Z(sp(4),so(4)) and tensor products of Verma modules.

The Symplectic Fueter-Sce Theorem

In this paper we present a symplectic analogue of the Fueter theorem. This allows the construction of special (polynomial) solutions for the symplectic Dirac operator $D_s$, which is defined as the first-order $\mathfrak{sp}(2n)$-invariant differential operator acting on functions on ${\mathbb R}^{2n}$ taking values in the metaplectic spinor representation.

The higher spin Laplace operator in several vector variables

In this paper, an explicit expression is obtained for the conformally invariant higher spin Laplace operator $\mathcal{D}_{\lambda}$, which acts on functions taking values in an arbitrary (finite-dimensional) irreducible representation for the orthogonal group with integer valued highest weight. Once an explicit expression is obtained, a special kind of (polynomial) solutions of this operator is determined.

The harmonic transvector algebra in two vector variables

The decomposition of polynomials of one vector variable into irreducible modules for the orthogonal group is a crucial result in harmonic analysis which makes use of the Howe duality theorem and leads to the study of spherical harmonics. The aim of the present paper is to describe a decomposition of polynomials in two vector variables and to obtain projection operators on each of the irreducible components. To do so, a particular transvector algebra will be used as a new dual partner for the orthogonal group leading to a generalisation of the classical Howe duality. The results are subsequently used to obtain explicit projection operators and formulas for integration of polynomials over the associated Stiefel manifold.

Fischer Decomposition for osp(4|2)-monogenics in Quaternion Clifford Analysis

Spaces of spinor-valued homogeneous polynomials, and in particular spaces of spinor-valued spherical harmonics, are decomposed in terms of irreducible representations of the symplectic group Sp$( p)$. These Fischer decompositions involve spaces of homogeneous, so-called $\mathfrak{osp}(4|2)$-monogenic polynomials, the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{osp}(4|2)$ being the Howe dual partner to the symplectic group Sp$( p)$. In order to obtain Sp$( p)$-irreducibility this new concept of $\mathfrak{osp}(4|2)$-monogenicity has to be introduced as a refinement of quaternionic monogenicity; it is defined by means of the four quaternionic Dirac operators, a scalar Euler operator $\mathbb{E}$ underlying the notion of symplectic harmonicity and a multiplicative Clifford algebra operator $P$ underlying the decomposition of spinor space into symplectic cells. These operators $\mathbb{E}$ and $P$, and their hermitian conjugates, arise naturally when constructing the Howe dual pair $\mathfrak{osp}(4|2) \times$ Sp$( p)$, the action of which will make the Fischer decomposition multiplicityfree.

The higher spin Laplace operator

This paper deals with a certain class of second-order conformally invariant operators acting on functions taking values in particular (finite-dimensional) irreducible representations of the orthogonal group. These operators can be seen as a generalisation of the Laplace operator to higher spin as well as a second order analogue of the Rarita-Schwinger operator. To construct these operators, we will use the framework of Clifford analysis, a multivariate function theory in which arbitrary irreducible representations for the orthogonal group can be realised in terms of polynomials satisfying a system of differential equations. As a consequence, the functions on which this particular class of operators act are functions taking values in the space of harmonics homogeneous of degree k. We prove the ellipticity of these operators and use this to investigate their kernel, focusing on both polynomial solutions and the fundamental solution.

Fundaments of Quaternionic Clifford Analysis II: Splitting of Equations

Quaternionic Clifford analysis is a recent new branch of Clifford analysis, a higher dimensional function theory which refines harmonic analysis and generalizes to higher dimension the theory of holomorphic functions in the complex plane. So-called quaternionic monogenic functions satisfy a system of first order linear differential equations expressed in terms of four interrelated Dirac operators. The conceptual significance of quaternionic Clifford analysis is unraveled by showing that quaternionic monogenicity can be characterized by means of generalized gradients in the sense of Stein and Weiss. At the same time, connections between quaternionic monogenic functions and other branches of Clifford analysis, viz Hermitian monogenic and standard or Euclidean monogenic functions are established as well.

Fundaments of Quaternionic Clifford Analysis III: Fischer Decomposition in Symplectic Harmonic Analysis

In the framework of quaternionic Clifford analysis in Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{4p}$, which constitutes a refinement of Euclidean and Hermitian Clifford analysis, the Fischer decomposition of the space of complex valued polynomials is obtained in terms of spaces of so--called (adjoint) symplectic spherical harmonics, which are irreducible modules for the symplectic group Sp$(p)$. Its Howe dual partner is determined to be $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{C}) \oplus \mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{C}) = \mathfrak{so}(4,\mathbb{C})$.

Factorization of Laplace operators on higher spin representations

This paper deals with the problem of factorizing integer powers of the Laplace operator acting on functions taking values in higher spin representations. This is a far-reaching generalization of the well-known fact that the square of the Dirac operator is equal to the Laplace operator. Using algebraic properties of projections of Stein-Weiss gradients, i.e. generalized Rarita-Schwinger and twistor operators, we give a sharp upper bound on the order of polyharmonicity for functions with values in a given representation with half-integral highest weight.
