Critical Three-Dimensional Ising Model on Spheriods from the Conformal Bootstrap

We construct a conformal map from $\mathbb{R}^3$ to a three-dimensional spheriod, which includes $\mathbb{S}^3$, a double-cover of the 3-ball, and $\mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{S}^2$ as limiting cases. Using the data of the critical three-dimensional Ising model on $\mathbb{R}^3$ that was computed using the conformal bootstrap method, we numerically estimate the fourth-order Binder cumulant of the critical three-dimensional $\phi^4$ theory on $\mathbb{S}^3$. We expect this estimate will enable an interesting comparison between the conformal bootstrap and future calculations of critical $\phi^4$ theory on $\mathbb{S}^3$ using the Quantum Finite Element (QFE) method.

Bianchi IX and VIII Quantum Cosmology with a Cosmological Constant, Aligned Electromagnetic Field, and Scalar Field

We investigate the quantum cosmologies of the Bianchi IX and VIII models when a cosmological constant, aligned electromagnetic field and free scalar field are present. The conserved quantity $p_{\phi}$ associated with our free scalar field results in $\phi$ classically being a quantity which monotonically increases with respect to time, thus allowing it to fulfill the role of an 'emergent' internal clock for our constrained quantum systems. We embark on this investigation to better understand how matter sources can affect general anisotropic quantum cosmologies. To aid us we use the Euclidean-signature semi classical method to obtain our wave functions and analyze them. In addition we study briefly the quantum Taub models when an $e^{ \phi}$ potential and aligned electromagnetic field are present. One of the interesting things we found was that our aligned electromagnetic field, depending on how strong it is, can create or destroy geometric states in our 'excited' state wave functions that quantum Bianchi IX universes can tunnel in and out of. This creation of a state is somewhat similar to how non-commutativity in the minisuperspace variables can cause new quantum states to emerge in the quantum Kantowski-Sachs and Bianchi I models. Our results further show the utility of the Euclidean-signature semi classical method towards tackling Lorentzian signature problems without having to invoke a Wick rotation. This feature of not needing to apply a Wick rotation makes this method potentially very useful for tackling a variety of problems in bosonic relativistic field theory and quantum gravity.

Infrared Generalized Uncertainty Principles Applied To LRS Bianchi I Quantum Cosmology

We propose two higher order generalized uncertainty principles(GUPs) which predict a minimum uncertainty in momentum and apply the deformations that they entail of the Heisenberg algebra to one half of the phase space of the LRS Bianchi I models. After numerically solving the resultant Wheeler Dewitt equations we analyze our solutions and provide evidence that potential IR effects of quantum gravity could have played a role in selecting an overwhelmingly likely geometrical configuration that a quantum universe can possess. In addition we propose a GUP which predicts both a minimum uncertainty in momentum and a maximal measurable length scale which can be interpreted as a fixed maximum cosmological horizon. The results contained in this work provide further incentives to study what effects higher order GUP(s) have on quantum cosmology so we can obtain a better understanding of how quantum gravity could have impacted cosmological evolution.

Towards Uncovering Generic Effects Of Matter Sources In Anisotropic Quantum Cosmologies Via Taub Models

We solve the Wheeler DeWitt equation for the Taub models in closed form when both a cosmological constant and an electromagnetic field are present. In doing so, we examine the 'excited states' of the quantum Taub models with the aforementioned matter sources, and prove the existence of a countably infinite number of 'excited' states. Additionally, we prove the existence of multiple asymptotic solutions to the Lorentzian signature Wheeler DeWitt equation using the Taub analogues of the 'wormhole', and 'no boundary' solutions of its Euclidean-signature Hamilton Jacobi equation; we also study their 'excited states. In the end we investigate qualitatively how our matter sources affect the behavior of our wave functions and argue how these effects within the context of quantum cosmology point to how a primordial electromagnetic field could have played a profound role in the early universe.

Bianchi II and VII$_{h=0}$ Models Revisited Via The Euclidean-Signature Semi Classical Method

We apply in a novel fashion a modified semi-classical method to the Bianchi II and VII$_{h=0}$ models when a cosmological constant, aligned electromagnetic field and stiff matter are present. Additionally we study the non-commutative quantum Bianchi II models when an aligned electromagnetic field is included. Through the use of the Euclidean-signature semi classical method we find a plethora of new solutions to these model's corresponding Lorentzian signature Wheeler DeWitt equations which we can interpret qualitatively. These new solutions for the aforementioned models involving matter sources reveal some potentially interesting effects that should be chronicled as possible phenomena that a toy model of quantum gravity can induce on the evolution of a quantum universe. Furthermore we find 'excited' states which behave differently from the 'excited' states of the Bianchi IX and Taub models that were previously uncovered using this method. By comparing and contrasting the 'excited' states given by these models we help facilitate a better understating of what constitutes an 'excited' state solution of the Wheeler Dewitt equation. Our results further show the utility of the Euclidean-signature semi classical method for tackling Lorentzian signature problems without having to invoke a Wick rotation. This feature of not needing to apply a Wick rotation makes this method potentially very useful for tackling a variety of problems in bosonic relativistic field theory and quantum gravity.

New Solutions To The Bianchi VIII Wheeler DeWitt Equation And Leading Order Solutions For $\Lambda$ $\ne$ 0 And A Primordial Magnetic Field

New non trivial solutions to the Lorentzian-signature symmetry reduced Bianchi VIII Wheeler DeWitt equation for Hartle Hawking ordering parameters $ \pm 2\sqrt{33} $ are obtained using an Euclidean-signature semi classical method. Using the aforementioned method we define 'excited' states for the Bianchi VIII wave function and construct leading order 'excited' states which appear to be a hybrid of scattering and bound states. Also six new solutions for the $\Lambda \ne 0$ Bianchi VIII Euclidean-signature Hamilton Jacobi equation are presented which can be used to construct semi-classical states corresponding to the Lorentzian signature symmetry reduced Wheeler DeWitt equation. In addition, new solutions to the Euclidean-signature Hamilton Jacobi equation for the Bianchi VIII models are found when $\Lambda \ne 0$ and an aligned primordial magnetic field is present. Furthermore, we find eight new complex solutions to the Euclidean-signature Hamilton Jacobi equation for the case when matter is not present, which can be used to construct additional semi-classical states. We also study the leading order wave functions which result from our aforementioned solutions when they are restricted to the $\beta+$ axis. Prior to presenting these results we explain the Euclidean-signature semi classical method and discuss how to solve the resultant equations this method generates when it is applied to the Lorentzian-signature symmetry reduced Bianchi VIII Wheeler DeWitt equation. The Euclidean-signature semi-classical method used here is applicable to other field theories as well. The work presented throughout this paper further shows the power Eulclidean-signature semi classical methods possess for solving problems in quantum cosmology and solving Lorentzian signature problems in general.

Closed Form Solutions For The Quantum LRS Bianchi IX and VIII Wheeler DeWitt Equations For An Arbitrary Hartle-Hawking Ordering Parameter

In this paper we present the quantum LRS Bianchi IX models or, as they may be better known, the Taub-NUT models in addition to the quantum LRS Bianchi VIII models, both coupled to a stiff matter source. We solve their Wheeler DeWitt equations for an arbitrary Hartle-Hawking ordering parameter using separation of variables. Afterwards we construct a superposition of their respective wave functions and discuss some of the interesting qualitative properties they possess.

New Solutions To The Bianchi IX Wheeler DeWitt Equation And Leading Order Solutions For $\Lambda$ $\ne$ 0 And A Primordial Magnetic Field

New closed form solutions to the Lorentzian signature symmetry reduced Bianchi IX Wheeler DeWitt equation are obtained using a Euclidean-signature semi classical method for Hartle Hawking ordering parameters $ \pm 2\sqrt{33} $ for the wormhole Hamilton-Jacobi solution. Moving past the wormhole case we also compute first order quantum corrections to Bianchi IX wave functions restricted to the $\beta_+$ axis for the 'no boundary' solution and one of the 'arm' solutions. Furthermore, six solutions to the Bianchi IX Euclidean-signature Hamiltonian Jacobi equation for the case when a cosmological constant is present have been found and are used to construct a semi-classical which respects the symmetry of the Bianchi IX potential. Also two additional solutions were found when both a cosmological constant and an aligned primordial magnetic field are present, which are also used to construct a leading order wave function. Furthermore we construct leading order 'excited' states which are restricted to the $\beta_+$ axis for the cases when a cosmological constant and a primordial magnetic field are present. To conclude, we discuss the interesting features of our solutions, and point out how the cosmological constant appears to act as a driver of anisotropy in our Bianchi IX models. The Euclidean-signature semi-classical method used here is applicable to certain field theories as well. Because this semi classical method was able to find new solutions to a heavily studied problem the results in this paper represent significant progress in the Wheeler-DeWitt approach to quantum cosmology and in the application of Euclidean-signature semi classical methods to Lorentzian signature problems in general.

Conformal invariance and the Ising model on a 3 sphere in connection with the Quantum Elemental Method

We formulate the conformal mapping between $R^3$ and $S^3$, the 3 sphere. This mapping is applied to the critical Ising model. From this mapping, we calculate the second and fourth moments of the magnetization density, and using those quantities calculate the 4th Binder cumulant. Our calculations for the critical 3D Ising Model on a 3 sphere are done using Mathematica's Monte Carlo Integration feature. The main motivation for performing this calculation is so we can later compare it to what the Quantum Elemental Method predicts.
