Sharp Hausdorff Dimension Bounds for Sets with Bounded and Growing Digits in $N$-expansions

We establish sharp bounds for the Hausdorff dimension of sets of irrational numbers in $(0,1)$ whose digits in the $N$-expansion are either uniformly bounded or tend to infinity. For sets with digits bounded by an integer $M \ge N$, we obtain improved Jarník-type bounds that generalize and refine classical results for regular continued fractions, with explicit dependence on $N$ (Theorem~1.1). For sets with digits that grow without bound, we obtain precise asymptotics that extend Good's theorems to $N$-expansions, proving in particular that the set of numbers whose digits tend to infinity has Hausdorff dimension exactly $1/2$, and that the dimension of sets with uniformly large digits approaches $1/2$ as the lower bound increases, with explicit logarithmic decay (Theorem~1.2). The results reveal how the parameter $N$ influences the dimensional properties of these exceptional sets. Our methods combine careful estimates of fundamental interval lengths with optimized covering arguments for upper bounds and Cantor set constructions via mass distribution principles for lower bounds.

Limit Theorems for $θ$-expansions and the Failure of the Strong Law

The paper presents fundamental metrical theorems for a class of continued fraction-like expansions known as $θ$-expansions. We first prove Khinchine's Weak Law of Large Numbers for the sum of digits, followed by the Diamond-Vaaler Strong Law for the sum of digits minus the largest one. Our main result is a general theorem on the failure of the strong law, showing that no regular norming sequence can yield a finite, non-zero almost sure limit. This result extends a classical theorem of Philipp to the $θ$-expansion setting. The proofs leverage the system's explicit invariant measure and a detailed analysis of its mixing properties.

On the Extreme Value Behavior of $\vartheta$-Expansions

The main objective of this paper is to develop extreme value theory for $\vartheta$-expansions. We establish the limit distribution of the maximum value in a $\vartheta$-continued fraction mixing stationary stochastic process, along with some related results. These findings are analogous to the theorems of J. Galambos and W. Philipp for regular continued fractions. Additionally, we emphasize that a Borel-Bernstein type theorem plays a crucial role.

On the $ψ$-mixing coefficients of Rényi-type maps

Via dependence with complete connections we investigate the $ψ$-mixing coefficients of the sequence $(a_n)_{n \in \mathbb{N}}$ of incomplete quotients and also of the doubly infinite sequence $(\overline{a}_l)_{l \in \mathbb{Z}}$ of extended incomplete quotients of the Rényi-type continued fraction expansions. A Lévy-type approach allows us to obtain good upper bounds for these coefficients.

Hausdorff dimension of exceptional sets arising in $θ$-expansions

For a fixed $θ^2=1/m$, $m \in \mathbb{N}_+$, let $x \in [0, θ)$ and $[a_1(x) θ, a_2(x) θ, \ldots]$ be the $θ$-expansion of $x$. Our first goal is to extend for $θ$-expansions the results of Jarnik \cite{J-1928} concerning the set of badly aproximable numbers and the set of irrationals whose partial quotients do not exceed a positive integer. Define $ L_n (x)= \displaystyle \max_{1 \leq i \leq n} a_i(x), x \in Ω:=[0, θ)\setminus \mathbb{Q} $. The second goal is to complete our result inspired by Philipp \cite{Ph-1976} % \[ \liminf_{n \to \infty} \frac{L_n(x) \log\log n}{n} = \frac{1}{\log \left( 1+ θ^2\right)} \mbox{ for a.e. } x \in [0, θ]. \] % In this regard we prove that for any $η> 0$ the set \[ E(η) = \left\lbrace x \in Ω: \lim_{n \to \infty} \frac{L_n(x) \log\log n}{n} = η\right\rbrace \] is of full Hausdorff dimension.

Some asymptotic results for the continued fraction expansions with odd partial quotients

We present and develop different approaches to study the asymptotic behavior of the distribution functions in the odd continued fractions case. Firstly, by considering the transition operator of the Markov chain associated with these expansions on a certain Banach space of complex-valued functions of bounded variation we make a brief survey of the solution in the Gauss-Kuzmin-type problem. Secondly, we use the method of Szüsz to obtain a similar asymptotic result and to give a good estimate of the convergence rate involved.

A Lochs-Type Approach via Entropy in Comparing the Efficiency of Different Continued Fraction Algorithms

We investigate the efficiency of several types of continued fraction expansions of a number in the unit interval using a generalization of Lochs theorem from 1964. Thus, we aimed to compare the efficiency by describing the rate at which the digits of one number-theoretic expansion determine those of another. We study Chan's continued fractions, $θ$-expansions, $N$-continued fractions and Rényi-type continued fractions. A central role in fulfilling our goal is played by the entropy of the absolutely continuous invariant probability measures of the associated dynamical systems.

Two asymptotic distributions related to Rényi-type continued fraction expansions

We attempt to investigate a two-dimensional Gauss-Kuzmin theorem for Rényi-type continued fraction expansions. More precisely speaking, our focus is to obtain specific lower and upper bounds for the error term considered which imply the convergence rate of the distribution function involved to its limit. To achieve our goal, we exploit the significant properties of the Perron-Frobenius operator of the Rényi-type map under its invariant measure on the Banach space of functions of bounded variation. Finally, we give some numerical calculations to conclude the paper.

Convergence rate for Rényi-type continued fraction expansions

This paper continues our investigation of Renyi-type continued fractions studied in \cite{Sebe&Lascu-2018}. A Wirsing-type approach to the Perron-Frobenius operator of the Rényi-type continued fraction transformation under its invariant measure allows us to study the optimality of the convergence rate. Actually, we obtain upper and lower bounds of the convergence rate which provide a near-optimal solution to the Gauss-Kuzmin-Lévy problem.

A dependence with complete connections approach to generalized Rényi continued fractions

We introduce and study in detail a special class of backward continued fractions that represents a generalization of Rényi continued fractions. We investigate the main metrical properties of the digits occurring in these expansions and we construct the natural extension for the transformation that generates the Rényi-type expansion. Also we define the associated random system with complete connections whose ergodic behavior allows us to prove a variant of Gauss-Kuzmin-type theorem.

A Gauss-Kuzmin-Lévy theorem for Rényi-type continued fractions

We consider an interval map which is a generalization of the Rényi transformation. For the continued fraction expansion arising from this transformation, we prove a result concerning the asymptotic behavior of the distribution functions of this map. More exactly, we use Szüsz's method to prove a Gauss-Kuzmin-Lévy-type theorem.

On convergence rate in the Gauss-Kuzmin problem for $θ$-expansions

After providing an overview of $θ$-expansions introduced by Chakraborty and Rao, we focus on the Gauss-Kuzmin problem for this new transformation. Actually, we complete our study on these expansions by proving a two-dimensional Gauss-Kuzmin theorem. More exactly, we obtain such a theorem related to the natural extension of the associated measure-dynamical system. Finally, we derive explicit lower and upper bounds of the error term which provide interesting numerical calculations for the convergence rate involved.

A two-dimensional Gauss-Kuzmin theorem for $N$-continued fraction expansions

A two-dimensional Gauss-Kuzmin theorem for $N$-continued fraction expansions is shown. More exactly, we obtain a Gauss-Kuzmin theorem related to the natural extension of the measure-dynamical system corresponding to these expansions. Then, using characteristic properties of the transition operator associated with the random system with complete connections underlying $N$-continued fractions on the Banach space of complex-valued functions of bounded variation we derive explicit lower and upper bounds for the convergence rate of the distribution function to its limit.

Metric properties of N-continued fractions

A generalization of the regular continued fractions was given by Burger et al. in 2008 [3]. In this paper we give metric properties of this expansion. For the transformation which generates this expansion, its invariant measure and Perron-Frobenius operator are investigated.

Ergodic Properties Of $θ$-Expansions And A Gauss-Kuzmin-Type Problem

A generalization of the regular continued fractions was given by Chakraborty and Rao \cite{CR-2003}. For the transformation which generates this expansion and its invariant measure, the Perron-Frobenius operator is given and studied. For this expansion, we apply the method of Rockett and Szüsz \cite{RS-1992} and obtained the solution of its Gauss-Kuzmin-type problem.

On a Gauss-Kuzmin Type Problem for a Family of Continued Fractions

We study a family of continued fraction expansion of reals from the unit interval. The Perron-Frobenius operator of the transformation which generates this expansion under the invariant measure of this transformation is given. Using the ergodic behavior of homogeneous random system with complete connections associated with this expansion we solve a variant of Gauss-Kuzmin problem for this continued fraction expansion.
