How Identity and Opinion Shape Political Sycophancy in LLMs

As Large Language Models (LLMs) increasingly encourage users to disclose personal profiles for tailored assistance, measuring their political alignment becomes increasingly important. However, many existing benchmarks for assessing political behavior rely on closed-ended questions and do not fully capture how a model's stance may adapt to user-provided context during interaction. We introduce a framework that disentangles two distinct triggers of political sycophancy: opinion (aligning with explicit narratives) and identity (stereotyping based on demographic labels). Using 450 manually-checked political dilemmas as controlled probes, we evaluate 13 instruction-tuned LLMs. We uncover a dissociation: a model's susceptibility to explicit opinions does not necessarily predict its susceptibility to identity cues, and vice versa. When both signals are present, their effects are generally sub-additive rather than simply additive. Additionally, system-level personas primarily shift a model's baseline stance while having limited effect on the stance shift caused by user opinion or identity. Ultimately, our results suggest that LLM political stance is interactively and steerably vulnerable rather than being a fixed trait, highlighting how personalization may amplify identity- or opinion-conditioned shifts in the model's behaviors.

Maximal Arboreal Galois Images for Polynomials of Twisted Carlitz Type

In this paper, we study the arboreal Galois representations for polynomials of twisted Carlitz type, whose first iterated Galois group is linked to the torsion of a twisted Carlitz module. We prove two explicit families of polynomials having iterated Galois groups isomorphic to full iterated cyclic wreath product at every level. We then compare the arboreal Galois image of a polynomial of twisted Carlitz type with the adelic Galois image of its corresponding twisted Carlitz module, and show that arboreal maximality and adelic surjectivity are logically independent, except for a one-way local implication.

Frobenius Traces for Rank-2 Drinfeld Modules, Higher-Dimensional Galois Representations, and a Strong Multiplicity One Theorem in Positive Characteristic

In this paper, we prove that if the Frobenius traces agree at all but finitely many places, then two $l$-adic Galois representations, associated to rank-$2$ non-CM Drinfeld modules of generic characteristic, are isomorphic. As a generalization, we show that the "Frobenius trace equality at all but finitely many places forces isomorphism" between two Galois representations over a local field of positive characteristic holds under an absolute irreducibility assumption. Moreover, we formulate and prove a function field analogue of strong multiplicity one property for semisimple Galois representations over a local field of positive characteristic.

CM Drinfeld Modules, Self-isogenous Modular Polynomials, and Volcano Structure

In this paper, we develop a view of self-isogenous modular polynomials and the $\mathfrak{l}$-cyclic isogeny graph for CM Drinfeld modules of arbitrary rank $r$. On the computational side, we give an explicit procedure to construct the modular polynomial $\Phi_{J,\mathfrak{a}}(X,X)$ for Drinfeld modules of rank $r\geqslant 3$ with $\mathfrak{a}$ a prime ideal of $\mathbb{F}_q[T]$. When $\mathfrak{a}=(T)$, we provide an algorithm to compute $\Phi_{J,\mathfrak{a}}(X,X)$; when $\mathfrak{a}=(T^2+T+1)$, we give an explicit degree bound on $\Phi_{J,\mathfrak{a}}(X,X)$. On the structural side, we formulate a generalized $\mathfrak{l}$-cyclic volcano structure and prove that the generalized volcano appears in a component of the full $\mathfrak{l}$-cyclic isogeny graph for rank-$r$ Drinfeld modules with complex multiplication.

Sparsity-Aware Near-Field Beam Training via Multi-Beam Combination

This paper proposes an adaptive near-field beam training method to enhance performance in multi-user and multipath environments. The approach identifies multiple strongest beams through beam sweeping and linearly combines their received signals - capturing both amplitude and phase - for improved channel estimation. Two codebooks are considered: the conventional DFT codebook and a near-field codebook that samples both angular and distance domains. As the near-field basis functions are generally non-orthogonal and often over-complete, we exploit sparsity in the solution using LASSO-based linear regression, which can also suppress noise. Simulation results show that the near-field codebook reduces feedback overhead by up to 95% compared to the DFT codebook. The proposed LASSO regression method also maintains robustness under varying noise levels, particularly in low SNR regions. Furthermore, an off-grid refinement scheme is introduced to enhance accuracy especially when the codebook sampling is coarse, improving reconstruction accuracy by 69.4%.

Identifying and Clustering Counter Relationships of Team Compositions in PvP Games for Efficient Balance Analysis

How can balance be quantified in game settings? This question is crucial for game designers, especially in player-versus-player (PvP) games, where analyzing the strength relations among predefined team compositions-such as hero combinations in multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games or decks in card games-is essential for enhancing gameplay and achieving balance. We have developed two advanced measures that extend beyond the simplistic win rate to quantify balance in zero-sum competitive scenarios. These measures are derived from win value estimations, which employ strength rating approximations via the Bradley-Terry model and counter relationship approximations via vector quantization, significantly reducing the computational complexity associated with traditional win value estimations. Throughout the learning process of these models, we identify useful categories of compositions and pinpoint their counter relationships, aligning with the experiences of human players without requiring specific game knowledge. Our methodology hinges on a simple technique to enhance codebook utilization in discrete representation with a deterministic vector quantization process for an extremely small state space. Our framework has been validated in popular online games, including Age of Empires II, Hearthstone, Brawl Stars, and League of Legends. The accuracy of the observed strength relations in these games is comparable to traditional pairwise win value predictions, while also offering a more manageable complexity for analysis. Ultimately, our findings contribute to a deeper understanding of PvP game dynamics and present a methodology that significantly improves game balance evaluation and design.

Natural density of rank-$2$ Drinfeld modules with big Galois image

In this paper, we compute the natural density of rank-$1$ Drinfeld module over $\mathbb{F}_q[T]$ with surjective adelic Galois representation; and the natural density of rank-$2$ Drinfeld modules over $\mathbb{F}_q[T]$ whose $\mathfrak{l}$-adic Galois image containing the special linear subgroup for finitely many prime ideal $\mathfrak{l}$.

On singular moduli for higher rank Drinfeld modules

In this paper, we generalize Dorman's work to estimate singular moduli for higher rank Drinfeld modules. In particular, we give a lower bound on the valuation of singular moduli for Drinfeld modules with complex multiplication by an imaginary field extension over the rational function field. Furthermore, we compute several examples for rank-$3$ case.

Surjectivity of the adelic Galois Representation associated to a Drinfeld Module of prime rank

In this paper, let $\phi$ be the Drinfeld module over $\mathbb{F}_{q}(T)$ of prime rank $r$ defined by $$\phi_T=T+\tau^{r-1}+T^{q-1}\tau^r.$$ We prove that under certain condition on $\mathbb{F}_q$, the adelic Galois representation $${\rho}_{\phi}:{\rm{Gal}}(\mathbb{F}_q(T)^{{\rm{sep}}}/\mathbb{F}_q(T))\longrightarrow \varprojlim_{\mathfrak{a}}{\rm{Aut}}(\phi[\mathfrak{a}])\cong {\rm{GL_r}}(\widehat{A})$$ is surjective.

An explicit bound on reducibility of mod $\mathfrak{l}$ Galois image for Drinfeld modules of arbitrary rank and its application on the uniformity problem

Suppose we are given a Drinfeld Module $\phi$ over $\mathbb{F}_q(t)$ of rank $r$ and a prime ideal $\mathfrak{l}$ of $\mathbb{F}_q[T]$. In this paper, we prove that the reducibility of mod $\mathfrak{l}$ Galois representation $${\rm{Gal}}(\mathbb{F}_q(T)^{\rm{sep}}/\mathbb{F}_q(T))\rightarrow {\rm{Aut}}(\phi[\mathfrak{l}])\cong {\rm{GL}}_r(\mathbb{F}_\mathfrak{l})$$ gives a bound on the degree of $\mathfrak{l}$ which depends only on the rank $r$ of Drinfeld module $\phi$ and the minimal degree of place $\mathcal{P}$ where $\phi$ has good reduction at $\mathcal{P}$. Then, we apply this reducibility bound to study the Drinfeld module analogue of Serre's uniformity problem.

Galois criterion for torsion points of Drinfeld modules

In this paper, we formulate the Drinfeld module analogue of a question raised by Lang and studied by Katz on the existence of rational points on abelian varieties over number fields. Given a maximal ideal $\fl$ of $\F_q[T]$, the question essentially asks whether, up to isogeny, a Drinfeld module $\phi$ over $\F_q(T)$ contains a rational $\fl$-torsion point if the reduction of $\phi$ at almost all primes of $\F_q[T]$ contains a rational $\fl$-torsion point. Similar to the case of abelian varieties, we show that the answer is positive if the rank of the Drinfeld module is $2$, but negative if the rank is $3$. Moreover, for rank $3$ Drinfeld modules we classify those cases where the answer is positive.
