New non-quadratic Euclidean complete affine maximal type hypersurfaces via Calabi affine geometry

The Bernstein problem for the affine maximal type equation \[ \sum_{i,j=1}^n f^{ij} w_{ij}=0,\qquad w\equiv \left[\det\left(\frac{\partial^2 f}{\partial x_i\partial x_j}\right)\right]^a,\quad x\in\Omega\subset\mathbb R^n, \] is a central problem in affine geometry. It originates from Chern's conjecture on entire locally convex graphs for the case $n=2$ and $a=-\frac{3}{4}$ in 1977. This conjecture was completely resolved by Trudinger and Wang in 2000, who moreover proposed a generalization to arbitrary dimension $n\ge2$ for $a=-\frac{n+1}{n+2}$ under the assumption of Euclidean completeness. Later, using real affine techniques, Li and Jia provided a new purely analytic proof of Chern's conjecture by establishing the Bernstein theorem for $n=2$ and $a\in(-\infty,-\frac{3}{4}]$. Despite considerable efforts over the past two decades, the higher-dimensional Chern's conjecture remains open. Recently, Du constructed explicit non-quadratic Euclidean complete solutions for $a\in[-\frac{n-1}{n},0)$. In this paper, from the perspective of submanifold theory and Calabi affine geometry, we investigate affine maximal type surfaces. It provides a geometric characterisation for Du's explicit Euclidean complete counterexamples---including Warren type, Trudinger-Wang type, and other solutions in dimension two. More importantly, we construct a new class of non-quadratic Euclidean complete affine maximal type hypersurfaces, which extends Du's parameter range, for all $n\ge 2$, to $a\in[-\frac{n}{n+1},\,0).$

Calabi affine maximal surfaces and centroaffine Bernstein problems

Motivated by Calabi's calculation of the second variation sign for locally strongly convex affine maximal surfaces in equiaffine geometry, we first prove that every Calabi extremal surface is also maximal in the Calabi affine geometry. By employing suitably chosen orthonormal frame fields and analyzing the corresponding Codazzi equations, we then obtain local classifications for certain special classes of Calabi affine maximal surfaces and hyperbolic centroaffine extremal surfaces. These examples inspire the construction of new, complete Calabi affine maximal surfaces and centroaffine extremal hypersurfaces. Notably, the complete centroaffine extremal hypersurfaces we establish answer all five centroaffine Bernstein problems posed by Li- Li-Simon in 2004.

New characterizations of the Whitney spheres and the contact Whitney spheres

In this paper, based on the classical K. Yano's formula, we first establish an optimal integral inequality for compact Lagrangian submanifolds in the complex space forms, which involves the Ricci curvature in the direction $J\vec{H}$ and the norm of the covariant differentiation of the second fundamental form $h$, where $J$ is the almost complex structure and $\vec{H}$ is the mean curvature vector field. Second and analogously, for compact Legendrian submanifolds in the Sasakian space forms with Sasakian structure $(\varphi,\xi,\eta,g)$, we also establish an optimal integral inequality involving the Ricci curvature in the direction $\varphi\vec{H}$ and the norm of the modified covariant differentiation of the second fundamental form. The integral inequality is optimal in the sense that all submanifolds attaining the equality are completely classified. As direct consequences, we obtain new and global characterizations for the Whitney spheres in complex space forms as well as the contact Whitney spheres in Sasakian space forms. Finally, we show that, just as the Whitney spheres in complex space forms, the contact Whitney spheres in Sasakian space forms are locally conformally flat manifolds with sectional curvatures non-constant.

Transport mechanism in amorphous molybdenum silicide thin films

Amorphous molybdenum silicide compounds have attracted significant interest for potential device applications, particularly in single-photon detector. In this work, the temperature-dependent resistance and magneto-resistance behaviors were measured to reveal the charge transport mechanism, which is of great importance for applications but is still insufficient. It is found that Mott variable hopping conductivity dominates the transport of sputtered amorphous molybdenum silicide thin films. Additionally, the observed magneto-resistance crossover from negative to positive is ascribed to the interference enhancement and the shrinkage of electron wave function, both of which vary the probability of hopping between localized sites.

A New Theoretical Interpretation of Measurement Error and Its Uncertainty

The traditional measurement theory interprets the variance as the dispersion of a measured value, which is actually contrary to a general mathematical concept that the variance of a constant is 0. This paper will fully demonstrate that the variance in measurement theory is actually the evaluation of probability interval of an error instead of the dispersion of a measured value, point out the key point of mistake in the traditional interpretation, and fully interpret a series of changes in conceptual logic and processing method brought about by this new concept.
