When Pass@$k$ Crossovers Are Real - and Why: Paired Inference and the Markov Kernel of RLVR

Reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR) typically improves pass@1 but can fall behind its base model at large sampling budgets $k$, commonly interpreted as sharpening existing solutions. Because adjacent pass@$k$ estimates reuse generations, pointwise error bars cannot establish a crossover. We formulate paired inference on the RL-minus-base difference curve: a prompt-level multiplier bootstrap yields a one-sided dominance test and simultaneous confidence bands requiring both an early gain and a later loss. Among nine public RLVR checkpoints at 3k-16k token limits, only one narrowly meets this criterion before multiplicity adjustment; asymmetric truncation can create, mask, or reverse crossovers. On 1,060 deduplicated competition problems at 32k tokens, two 1.5B models exhibit certified crossovers around $k\approx10$-$60$, while two 7B models show no supported loss. A paired variance decomposition shows why adding prompts improves power more than deeper sampling. Prompts with identical base success probability diverge after RLVR, with dispersion replicating across independent generation halves and violating Lipschitz slope bounds for reasonable deterministic maps. Modeling RLVR as a Markov kernel, Jensen's inequality shows that conditional dispersion depresses pass@$k$ for $k\ge2$. Once dispersion is modeled, the conditional-mean log-odds slope is below one in every pair: RLVR improves hard prompts on average, while late-$k$ loss comes from a 2%-3% minority of base-solved prompts collapsing onto a repeated modal wrong answer and resisting prefix rescue up to 4,096 tokens. In controlled runs from one base model on 3,000 new problems, all four GRPO arms fall behind near $k\approx200$ and remain behind through $k=4096$, while SFT stays significantly ahead throughout.

Fast Stochastic Post-Fault Replanning for Launch Vehicles under Persistent Parametric Uncertainty

Post-fault ascent replanning for launch vehicles requires rapid joint trajectory-guidance replanning under uncertainty to maintain closed-loop constraint satisfaction. In particular, propulsion performance cannot be promptly and fully identified after a fault, leaving persistent parametric uncertainty throughout the remaining flight. A fast stochastic ascent replanning method is developed to address this problem. To efficiently account for the cross-time correlation induced by persistent parametric uncertainty, a fast system level synthesis formulation is developed with a Riccati-based solution structure. The resulting feedback synthesis is complemented by a task-oriented terminal weighting method that shapes terminal covariance according to post-injection correction demand. These components are integrated with nominal trajectory replanning, chance-constraint tightening, and online feedback realization to establish a real-time joint stochastic trajectory-guidance replanning framework for launch vehicles. Nonlinear Monte Carlo simulations show that the proposed method effectively suppresses the influence of persistent parametric uncertainty and maintains stable convergence and high injection accuracy across parameter sweeps, with subsecond solution times. Compared with conventional ascent guidance, the empirical constraint-violation rate is substantially reduced.

Physics of the QCD Trace Anomaly and Renormalization in a Reducible Basis

The QCD trace anomaly is a well-established textbook result in quantum field theory with several prominent features: (1) it arises from the quantum breaking of scale symmetry at ultraviolet (UV) scales, yet its full renormalized expression is independent of the particular UV regulator used, whether lattice or dimensional regularization; (2) although nominally of order $α_s$, it is free of renormalization-scheme ambiguity; and (3) it is free of UV divergences and therefore scale independent. We show that renormalization in a reducible operator basis introduces additional convention dependence in its separation into quark and gluon parts, which do not share the properties of the whole anomaly itself. An irreducible decomposition instead keeps the trace anomaly as a single, convention-free component, and gives transparent physical meanings to anomaly-related nucleon physics, including the nucleon mass structure and internal forces.

PersonaScienceBench: Evaluating Scientific Agents with Diverse Simulated Researchers

Scientific agents collaborate with researchers whose expertise and preferences differ, but benchmarks usually hold the collaborator fixed. We introduce PersonaScienceBench: 200 tasks from five benchmarks across four scientific domains. Simulated researchers provide context and feedback according to persona profiles, while task objectives and grading remain fixed. Agents encounter researcher preferences only through conversation. Across eighteen modelconfigurations, task performance, fact recovery, and self-repetition reveal different strengths. Detailed GPT 6 Astra analyses show distinct agent responses across researcher profiles; interaction traces illustrate targeted clar ification and workflow revision. These behaviors can differ even when final scores match. PersonaScienceBench therefore evaluates how agents collaborate with diverse researchers alongside whether they complete the task.

Efficient and Robust Video Defense Framework against 3D-field Personalized Talking Face

Talking Face Generation (TFG) has made remarkable progress in synthesizing realistic speaker videos, evolving into two paradigms based on identity incorporation: image-based 2D TFG and video-based 3D TFG. Despite enabling efficient content creation, TFG also raises risks of unauthorized portrait forgery and privacy abuse, motivating proactive defenses. Existing defenses mainly target image-based 2D TFG, while, to our knowledge, no proactive defense has been developed for video-based 3D TFG. A straightforward solution is to apply existing image-based defenses independently to each video frame. However, experiments show that this adaptation is ineffective and computationally expensive: video-based 3D TFG lacks the image-reference modules and reverse diffusion processes exploited by existing defenses, and per-frame optimization incurs substantial overhead. To address this gap, we analyze the vulnerabilities of video-based 3D TFG and propose ErodedFace, an efficient proactive defense framework targeting reference-video preprocessing. ErodedFace uses a curriculum-inspired two-stage strategy: Stage I establishes scale-robust disruption through similarity-guided parameter inheritance and adaptive multi-scale optimization; Stage II improves perceptual fidelity and transformation robustness without weakening protection. Extensive experiments show that ErodedFace effectively protects portrait videos against unauthorized video-based 3D TFG, achieves a 10.0x speedup in defense generation over existing image-based 2D TFG defenses, and remains robust to common transformations and recent purification methods.

PersonaChatBench: Evaluating Chat Assistants with Diverse Simulated Users

Conversational assistants are expected to help people with diverse backgrounds, preferences, and communication styles. Yet evaluations centered on a single cooperative user provide limited insight into how reliably an assistant serves users with different personas. We introduce PersonaChatBench, a framework for evaluating task competence and responsiveness to diverse user needs. PersonaChatBench pairs the same underlying task with multiple simulated users, each guided by a private persona card that specifies distinct needs, preferences, and interaction behaviors. By holding the task fixed while varying the user, the framework examines how assistant performance changes across user conditions. We evaluate 20 language models across six domains, separately assessing native task outcomes, fulfillment of expressed persona needs, and simulator fidelity. Our results show that task performance and need fulfillment vary across personas and domains. Strong task performance does not necessarily translate into satisfying individual needs, and models' relative strengths in meeting those needs are not consistent across domains. PersonaChatBench makes these differences measurable, revealing gaps obscured by aggregate scores and helping identify which users an assistant serves well and where adaptation is needed. It provides a basis for evaluating consistency across users and guiding the development of assistants that better accommodate diverse needs in everyday applications.

FlowFPR: Flow Matching Prior for Oversampled Fourier Phase Retrieval

Fourier phase retrieval reconstructs images from magnitude measurements without phase information, but noise and channel ambiguities make natural color-image recovery challenging. Although diffusion-prior methods provide strong image constraints, their recovery can deteriorate under stronger measurement noise, and repeated generative updates incur substantial computational cost. This paper proposes FlowFPR, which integrates a pretrained Flow Matching prior with relaxed averaged alternating reflections for oversampled Fourier phase retrieval. Each outer iteration obtains a clean image estimate through a single time-dependent Flow prediction, applies measurement-consistency correction, and reconstructs the next path state after fusing the two candidates. This process requires no backpropagation of measurement errors through the Flow network. To address ineffective or excessive correction caused by prescribed fusion weights and fixed inner depths, we introduce adaptive fusion based on residual improvement and a controlled inner search combining early stopping with best-so-far candidate selection. Their combination yields a joint variant alongside the basic method and the two independent improvements. Experiments on natural face images under a common ground-truth-assisted multiple-restart evaluation protocol show that the joint variant achieves the best mean quality among the evaluated methods at the two tested nonzero noise levels, while same-hardware timing demonstrates lower end-to-end runtime than the diffusion-based baselines.

PhysAg3D: Bridging 3D Generative and Agentic Models for High-Fidelity and Physically-Interactive Assets

Generating interactive 3D assets from a single image requires realistic appearance, fidelity to the depicted object, and plausible physical behavior. Yet detailed geometry alone does not determine how an object should move or deform. We introduce PhysAg3D, which couples 3D generative models with agentic reasoning and tool use. A vision-language agent first infers semantic parts, candidate interactions, and physical priors from the image; a 3D generator then produces a textured whole-object mesh from the same image. A hierarchical interaction representation links these revisable priors to mechanisms and the generated surfaces they control, organizing interaction construction and refinement. Guided by this representation and observations of the mesh, the agent uses geometric and physical tools to construct parts, joints, deformable regions, and surface bindings while retaining useful generated geometry and materials. Rendered interactions and execution measurements guide targeted revisions within a fixed budget. The framework accommodates both rigid articulation and compliant deformation. Quantitative and qualitative evaluations on real photographs and external benchmarks demonstrate detailed, image-aligned assets with plausible interactions. Ablations support bounded refinement and source-surface preservation. Project Page: supra-3d.github.io/PhysAg3D.

Trace-WAM: Learning to Act via 3D Motion Prediction for World Action Models

World Action Models (WAMs) learn representations for robot control by coupling future visual prediction with action generation. Successful manipulation depends primarily on how the robot and task-relevant objects evolve, whereas future-video prediction must also reconstruct the appearance and background of the entire scene. We therefore propose Trace-WAM, which augments video-action learning with future 3D motion prediction as an auxiliary objective. This objective supervises temporal point correspondence together with image-plane displacement and depth change, directly describing the interaction dynamics and spatial changes involved in manipulation. To this end, we adopt a three-branch Mixture-of-Transformer (Tri-MoT) architecture to jointly learn video prediction, motion prediction, and action generation. The motion expert predicts future trajectories from current visual features, allowing motion supervision to shape the representations used for action generation. Because the action expert does not consume predicted trajectories, inference retains the current-observation policy path: a single visual forward pass followed by action denoising. Experiments on RoboCasa-GR1, LIBERO, and LIBERO-Plus demonstrate strong in-distribution performance and out-of-distribution generalization, with particularly clear gains over Fast-WAM under limited demonstrations and distribution shifts.

Atmospheric Turbulence Profiling in the Lenghu Site Area Using MERRA-2 Data

The Lenghu site, in the Saishiteng Mountains of the northern Tibetan Plateau, has been identified as an excellent astronomical site from preliminary statistics of clear nights, sky background brightness, precipitable water vapour, total seeing and weather. Since 2022, several projects with apertures larger than 4 m have started construction or are being planned. Given the use of adaptive optics (AO) on these projects, in-depth measurements and analysis of the atmospheric turbulence above the site are required: the distribution and variation of the turbulence profiles provide a large-scale, climatological basis for site planning and for comparing candidate locations, complementing rather than replacing the on-site measurements needed for instrument design and operations. Predicting the atmospheric profiles of the site and its surroundings from satellite data, combined with on-site measurements, can help to optimise the site planning. This paper uses MERRA-2 reanalysis data to study the atmospheric profiles of the site and its environment, revealing the seasonal and long-term variations of the observing conditions. The reanalysis results are cross-checked against on-site ground-level instruments serving the same purpose. MERRA-2 overestimates the median free-atmosphere seeing by +0.22 arcsec (+50 %) while keeping the night-to-night correlation weak (r ~ 0.2), and underestimates the median total seeing by -0.24 arcsec (-27 %). It captures only ~22 % of the ground-layer turbulence and little of the observed seasonal amplitude of the free atmosphere. MERRA-2 is therefore suited to relative comparisons of spatial variability between locations and to climatological characterisation, not to quantitative AO applications or night-by-night assessment of profiles.

Asking the World: Generalist Physical Reasoning through Agentic World Modeling and Probing

Physical reasoning from video requires inferring latent physical properties and dynamics beyond direct observation. Direct VLM inference remains unreliable on complex physical tasks without explicit modeling and validation, while predefined tool pipelines rely on task- and domain-specific priors that limit generalization across materials, dynamics, and reasoning tasks. We introduce Asking the World (ATW), a generalist agent that constructs and interrogates task-relevant executable worlds through two adaptive stages: World Modeling calibrates a world from video, while World Probing queries, simulates, and intervenes on it to obtain question-relevant evidence. Rather than prescribing the operations in either stage, ATW determines how to model and probe according to the scene and question. We develop PolyWorld Engine, a lightweight and highly programmable Warp-based multiphysics simulator for constructing and probing worlds with rigid bodies, soft bodies, cloth, ropes, fluids, and their coupled interactions. CEM-based system identification recovers task-relevant dynamics during World Modeling. The resulting world becomes an active workspace for question-directed physical experiments rather than a predetermined downstream tool. We evaluate ATW on CLEVRER, ContPhy, and three real-world scenarios. Using Gemini-3-Flash as its base VLM, ATW achieves 80.82% overall per-question accuracy on CLEVRER, improving direct Gemini-3-Flash by 46.50 points, GPT-5.5 by 13.58 points, and PhysMind by 8.27 points. On ContPhy, it reaches 70.56% overall accuracy, surpassing Gemini-3-Flash by 28.10 points and GPT-5.5 by 3.53 points. Across the three real-world scenarios, ATW achieves 71.67% accuracy, 28.33 points above GPT-5.5. These results establish agentic world modeling and probing as an effective, execution-grounded approach to generalist physical reasoning. Project page: https://asking-the-world.github.io/

Fragility-aware Classification for Risk Characterization and Robust Learning

Classification models play a central role in data-driven decision-making applications such as medical diagnosis, recommendation systems, and risk assessment. Traditional performance metrics, such as accuracy and AUC, quantify classification errors and pairwise ranking performance but do not account for the magnitude of errors, i.e., the risk of confident misjudgments. This limitation is particularly consequential in safety-critical and cost-sensitive settings, where overconfident errors can lead to severe outcomes. To address this issue, we propose the Fragility Index (FI), a novel performance metric that evaluates classifiers from a risk-averse perspective by capturing the tail risk of confident misjudgments. We formulate FI within a robust satisficing (RS) framework to quantify classifier sensitivity under distributional uncertainty. Building on this, we develop a tractable surrogate-based training framework and establish provable bounds connecting training fragility to ranking-error FI. We further derive tractable reformulations for a broad class of loss functions, including cross-entropy, hinge-type, and Lipschitz losses, and identify specific conditions under which these reformulations are exact. We also introduce an FI-induced regularizer for deep neural networks. Empirical results on real-world medical diagnosis tasks demonstrate that FI complements existing metrics by revealing error tail risk not reflected in accuracy or AUC. FI-based models achieve competitive predictive performance while generally attaining lower FI. In the simulated human--AI diagnostic workflow, they also achieve lower average operational costs than empirical risk minimization.

Gate3DGen: A Pre-processing Model that Selectively Purifies Real-World Images for 3D Generation

Single-image 3D generation has achieved high fidelity on curated benchmarks, yet degrades sharply on real-world images with uneven illumination, blur, and occlusions. Purifying such inputs requires deciding when to intervene and preserving the visual cues needed for 3D generation, while leaving clean inputs unchanged. We introduce Gate3DGen, a selective pre-processing model that gates image inputs to existing 3D generators without retraining them. A degradation-aware router bypasses inputs classified as clean and extracts features to guide purification of the remaining inputs. Conditioned on these features, a 3D-oriented one-step purifier purifies degraded inputs with spatial losses that encourage preservation of object identity, contours, and textural cues. To provide paired supervision, we construct a synthetic data engine that renders clean views of 3D assets and synthesises composite degradations. On the synthetic benchmark, the purifier improves image fidelity and downstream 3D geometry in only 2.3s on average, reducing TRELLIS.2 mesh distance by 61.5% relative to degraded inputs. VLM evaluation and human preferences on real photographs further support identity preservation and degradation correction. More demos and code are available at https://supra-3d.github.io/gate3dgen.

GPT-6 Astra Is a Native Visuo-Tactile Policy for Contact-Rich Manipulation

Recent advances in multimodal models have enabled GPT-6 Astra to perform robotic manipulation through in-context learning. Yet contact-rich control and tactile perception are often regarded as strengths of specialist policies, leaving open whether Astra can directly understand and use tactile observations. We provide, to our knowledge, the first demonstration that Astra directly interprets vision-based tactile images and uses their contact cues for manipulation. Tactile RGB images enter through its existing visual interface, enabling few-shot closed-loop control on nineteen simulated UniVTAC and OpenViTac tasks with 210 sampled scene seeds per setting. With visuo-tactile input, Astra achieves mean success rates of 93.8% and 81.8%, exceeding the strongest reported specialist baselines in our comparison by 22.9 and 13.1 percentage points, respectively. Vision-only performance also leads these baselines, reaching 76.3% and 80.6%. Trajectory analysis reveals active probing, cautious grasping, contact-guided alignment, and recovery, alongside difficulties with tangential loading and corrective execution. Our findings challenge the exclusivity of specialist policies in contact-rich manipulation and show that fine-grained vision can partially compensate for missing touch. They also identify vision-based tactile sensing as an interface for scaling contact understanding with foundation models and reveal signs of benchmark saturation. These results motivate joint visual-tactile pretraining, harder contact-rich evaluations, and physical-robot validation.

PersonaCUABench: Benchmarking Computer-Use Agents Serving Diverse Personas

Computer-use agents (CUAs) are commonly evaluated against fixed task specifications, but users may omit requirements, add constraints, or require approval before consequential actions. Completing the benchmark instruction does not guarantee serving the person who asked. We introduce PersonaCUABench, which holds 74 tasks across 11 domains fixed and varies only who asks. A persona agent, playing one of 44 personas in four groups, rewrites each instruction in that user's own words and answers the CUA's questions, while the CUA sees only the dialogue, never the profile or the original instruction. Across nine backbones (3,330 runs), mean task completion falls by 36% relative to the original requests. The losses have two sources: in 59.9% of cells that lose points, the agent engages with what the user asked for and still gets it wrong, and 11.2% are stops the user requested that the checker scores as failures. Even when a persona request is fully completed, the user gives the top satisfaction rating in only 62.7% of cells, against 84.1% for the original requests. CUAs should therefore be evaluated not only on task completion but also on whether they meet the requirements and constraints users express. Code: https://github.com/MatrAIx-ai/PersonaCUABench. SUPRA-TEX: 3D Generation with Super-Aligned Texture

Single image 3D generation aims to dress a given 3D mesh with relightable materials while faithfully preserving the visual details of a reference image. Existing methods either introduce artifacts when fusing inconsistent multi-view predictions or struggle to preserve fine details through implicit image-feature conditioning. To resolve these challenges, we introduce SUPRA-Tex, built on the principle of decoupling visible-material estimation, surface alignment, and observation-guided 3D completion. This division of labor allows the 3D generator, trained on limited 3D data, to focus its capacity on preserving visible evidence and completing unobserved surfaces. Specifically, we first train an MLLM-based image editing model to predict lighting-separated PBR maps in the reference view. We then project these maps onto the visible surface and encode them with the pretrained material VAE encoder into native observation latents that share the generation target's latent space. An interleaved flow transformer holds these latents as fixed, read-only anchors while alternating unobserved-region and full-surface updates to generate complete material latents. This design achieves super-alignment with the reference, delivering What You See Is What You Get fidelity on visible regions and coherent completion on unobserved surfaces. Trained solely on public datasets, SUPRA-Tex achieves SOTA performance in both geometry-conditioned texturing and end-to-end asset generation, matching or even exceeding leading commercial systems on in-the-wild images. Soloist: A Generative Model for Blind Voice Separation in the Wild

Real-world voice separation must recover individual voices from overlapping speech, environmental noise, and music, yet isolated source recordings are rarely available for supervision. We introduce Soloist, a generative model for blind voice separation that autoregressively generates individual voice streams as audio-codec sequences conditioned on the mixture, without requiring a target-speaker query or a predefined voice count. We propose a two-stage training paradigm to learn from synthetic mixtures and adapt to real recordings. The first stage combines supervised separation on synthetic mixtures with isolated source targets and an auxiliary task that predicts speaker timelines from real recordings, learning who speaks when from natural acoustics. The second stage applies reinforcement learning to real recordings, with rewards supplied by a model judge that compares candidate separations based on voice purity and content preservation without isolated source targets. Across diverse scenarios, Soloist recovers clean speech from multi-speaker overlap and noisy recordings, and extracts singing vocals from music accompaniment while maintaining relatively high pitch accuracy and intelligibility. On real-world recordings with unknown voice counts, Soloist also separates voices well. Finally, we integrate Soloist into a full-duplex conversation processing pipeline that assembles separated outputs into continuous speaker tracks, demonstrating its practical utility in real conversations.

Kinematic Flow for Banana Loops and Unparticles

We extend kinematic flow to a class of momentum-integrated loop-level cosmological correlators: banana loops of conformally coupled scalars in power-law cosmologies and, in de Sitter, banana loops containing arbitrary mixtures of massless and conformally coupled scalars. Exploiting their dual description as tree-level exchanges of unparticles, we show that the associated correlators are described by a finite set of master integrals obeying a first-order system of differential equations. The corresponding basis is constructed from tubings of marked graphs and is distinguished by the appearance of nested tubes and an arborescence ordering of the vertices. We derive the connection matrices from four combinatorial rules---activation, merger, swap, and copy. The last two are unique to unparticle exchanges: they induce richer mixing among basis functions and introduce new kinematic letters. Our framework extends systematically to arbitrarily complicated configurations, including necklace diagrams, and establishes unparticle exchange as a distinct class of kinematic flow.
