An analysis of the halo and relic radio emission from Abell 3376 from Murchison Widefield Array observations

We have carried out multiwavelength observations of the near-by ($z=0.046$) rich, merging galaxy cluster Abell 3376 with the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA). As a part of the GaLactic and Extragalactic All-sky MWA survey (GLEAM), this cluster was observed at 88, 118, 154, 188 and 215 MHz. The known radio relics, towards the eastern and western peripheries of the cluster, were detected at all the frequencies. The relics, with a linear extent of $\sim$ 1 Mpc each, are separated by $\sim$ 2 Mpc. Combining the current observations with those in the literature, we have obtained the spectra of these relics over the frequency range 80 -- 1400 MHz. The spectra follow power laws, with $α$ = $-1.17\pm0.06$ and $-1.37\pm0.08$ for the west and east relics, respectively ($S \propto ν^α$). Assuming the break frequency to be near the lower end of the spectrum we estimate the age of the relics to be $\sim$ 0.4 Gyr. No diffuse radio emission from the central regions of the cluster (halo) was detected. The upper limit on the radio power of any possible halo that might be present in the cluster is a factor of 35 lower than that expected from the radio power and X-ray luminosity correlation for cluster halos. From this we conclude that the cluster halo is very extended ($>$ 500 kpc) and/or most of the radio emission from the halo has decayed. The current limit on the halo radio power is a factor of ten lower than the existing upper limits with possible implications for models of halo formation.

Discrete unified gas kinetic scheme with force term for incompressible fluid flows

The discrete unified gas kinetic scheme (DUGKS) is a finite-volume scheme with discretization of particle velocity space, which combines the advantages of both lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE) method and unified gas kinetic scheme (UGKS) method, such as the simplified flux evaluation scheme, flexible mesh adaption and the asymptotic preserving properties. However, DUGKS is proposed for near incompressible fluid flows, the existing compressible effect may cause some serious errors in simulating incompressible problems. To diminish the compressible effect, in this paper a novel DUGKS model with external force is developed for incompressible fluid flows by modifying the approximation of Maxwellian distribution. Meanwhile, due to the pressure boundary scheme, which is wildly used in many applications, has not been constructed for DUGKS, the non-equilibrium extrapolation (NEQ) scheme for both velocity and pressure boundary conditions is introduced. To illustrate the potential of the proposed model, numerical simulations of steady and unsteady flows are performed. The results indicate that the proposed model can reduce the compressible effect efficiently against the original DUGKS model, and the NEQ scheme fits well with our model as they are both of second-order accuracy. We also implement the proposed model in simulating the three dimensional problem: cubical lid-driven flow. The comparisons of numerical solutions and benchmarks are presented in terms of data and topology. And the motion pattern of the fluid particles in a specific area is characterized for the steady-state cubical lid-driven flows.

Optimising NGAS for the MWA Archive

The Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) is a next-generation radio telescope, generating visibility data products continuously at about 400 MB/s. Efficiently managing and archiving this data is a challenge. The MWA Archive consists of dataflows and storage sub-systems distributed across three tiers. At its core is the open source software - the Next-Generation Archive System (NGAS) - that was initially developed in ESO. However, to meet the MWA data challenge, we have tailored and optimised NGAS to achieve high-throughput data ingestion, efficient dataflow management, multi-tiered data storage and processing-aware data staging.

Extremely Large Images: Considerations for Contemporary Approach

The new widefield radio telescopes, such as: ASKAP,MWA, LOFAR, eVLA and SKA; will produce spectral-imaging data-cubes (SIDC) of unprecedented volumes in the order of hundreds of Petabytes. Servicing such data as images to the end-user may encounter challenges unforeseen during the development of IVOA SIAP. We discuss the requirements for extremely large SIDC, and in this light we analyse the applicability of approach taken in the ISO/IEC 15444 (JPEG2000) standards.

SkuareView: Client-Server Framework for Accessing Extremely Large Radio Astronomy Image Data

The new wide-field radio telescopes, such as: ASKAP, MWA, and SKA; will produce spectral-imaging data-cubes (SIDC) of unprecedented volume. This requires new approaches to managing and servicing the data to the end-user. We present a new integrated framework based on the JPEG2000/ISO/IEC 15444 standard to address the challenges of working with extremely large SIDC. We also present the developed j2k software, that converts and encodes FITS image cubes into JPEG2000 images, paving the way to implementing the pre- sented framework.

Single-Λ Hypernuclei in the Relativistic Mean-Field Theory with parameter set FSU

In this work, we conduct a study on the properties of single-Λ hypernuclei in the relativistic mean-field theory with the parameter set FSU, where the isoscalar-isovector coupling has been included to soften the symmetry energy. In our model, a tensor coupling between ω and Λ is employed, which is found to be essential in obtaining the small spin-orbit interaction in single-Λ hypernuclei. Our calculated values of Λ single-particle energies are in good agreement with the known experimental data. As a comparison to other existing parameter sets, calculations are also carried out by using parameterizaions such as NL3 and NL3*. The results show that the parameter set FSU is as successful as those of NL3 and NL3* in terms of reproducing the properties of single-Λ hypernuclei.

Hypernclear in the improved quark mass density- dependent model

The improved quark mass density- dependent model, which has been successfully used to describe the properties of both finite nuclei and bulk nuclear matter, is extended to include the strange quark. The parameters of the model are determined by the saturation properties of bulk matter. Then the given parameter set is employed to investigate both the properties of strange hadronic matter and those of $Λ$ hypernuclei. Bulk strange hadronic matter consisting of nucleons, $Λ$- hyperons and $Ξ$- hyperons is studied under mean-field approximation. Among others, density dependence of the effective baryon mass, saturation properties and stability of the physical system are discussed. For single-$Λ$ hypernuclei, single particle energies of $Λ$ hyperon is evaluated. In particular, it is found that the present model produces a small spin-orbit interaction, which is in agreement with the experimental observations. The above results show that the present model can consistently describe the properties of strange hadronic matter, as well as those of single $Λ$ hypernuclei within an uniform parameterization.

Quark deconfinement phase transition in nuclear matter for improved quark mass density-dependent model

The improved quark mass density-dependent (IQMDD) model, which has been successfully used to describe the properties of both infinite nuclear matter and finite nuclei, is applied to investigate the properties of quark deconfinement phase transition. By using the finite-temperature quantum field theory, we calculate the finite temperature effective potential and extend the IQMDD model to finite temperature and finite nuclear matter density. The critical temperature and the critical density of nuclear matter are given and the QCD phase diagram is addressed. It is shown that this model can not only describe the saturation properties of nuclear matter, but also explain the quark deconfinement phase transition successfully.

Nuclear matter and neutron matter for improved quark mass density- dependent model with $ρ$ mesons

A new improved quark mass density-dependent model including u, d quarks, $σ$ mesons, $ω$ mesons and $ρ$ mesons is presented. Employing this model, the properties of nuclear matter, neutron matter and neutron star are studied. We find that it can describe above properties successfully. The results given by the new improved quark mass density- dependent model and by the quark meson coupling model are compared.

An improved quark mass density- dependent model with the non-linear scalar sigma field and the $ω$-meson field is presented. We show that the present model can describe saturation properties, the equation of state, the compressibility and the effective nuclear mass of nuclear matter under mean field approximation successfully. The comparison of the present model and the quark-meson coupling model is addressed.

Improved quark mass density- dependent model with quark and non-linear scalar field coupling

The improved quark mass density- dependent model which includes the coupling between the quarks and a non-linear scalar field is presented. Numerical analysis of solutions of the model is performed over a wide range of parameters. The wave functions of ground state and the lowest one-particle excited states with even and odd parity are given. The root-mean squared radius, the magnetic moment and the ratio between the axial-vector and the vector beta-decay coupling constants of the nucleon are calculated. We found that the present model is successful to describe the properties of nucleon.

Numerical evaluation of a two loop diagram in the cutoff regularization

The sunset diagram of $λϕ^4$ theory is evaluated numerically in cutoff scheme and a nonzero finite term (in accordance with dimensional regularization (DR) result) is found in contrast to published calculations. This finding dramatically reduces the critical couplings for symmetry breaking in the two loop effective potential discussed in our previous work.
