Power Allocation for Wireless Federated Learning using Graph Neural Networks

We propose a data-driven approach for power allocation in the context of federated learning (FL) over interference-limited wireless networks. The power policy is designed to maximize the transmitted information during the FL process under communication constraints, with the ultimate objective of improving the accuracy and efficiency of the global FL model being trained. The proposed power allocation policy is parameterized using a graph convolutional network and the associated constrained optimization problem is solved through a primal-dual algorithm. Numerical experiments show that the proposed method outperforms three baseline methods in both transmission success rate and FL global performance.

Evidence for anisotropic spin-triplet Andreev reflection at the 2D van der Waals ferromagnet/superconductor interface

Fundamental symmetry breaking and relativistic spin-orbit coupling give rise to fascinating phenomena in quantum materials. Of particular interest are the interfaces between ferromagnets and common s-wave superconductors, where the emergent spin-orbit fields support elusive spin-triplet superconductivity, crucial for superconducting spintronics and topologically-protected Majorana bound states. Here, we report the observation of large magnetoresistances at the interface between a quasi-two-dimensional van der Waals ferromagnet Fe0.29TaS2 and a conventional s-wave superconductor NbN, which provides the possible experimental evidence for the spin triplet Andreev reflection and induced spin-triplet superconductivity at ferromagnet/superconductor interface arising from Rashba spin-orbit coupling. The temperature, voltage, and interfacial barrier dependences of the magnetoresistance further support the induced spin-triplet superconductivity and spin-triplet Andreev reflection. This discovery, together with the impressive advances in two-dimensional van der Waals ferromagnets, opens an important opportunity to design and probe superconducting interfaces with exotic properties.

Gate-tunability of the superconducting state at the $EuO/KTaO_3 (111)$ interface

The recent discovery of superconducting interfaces in the $KTaO_3 (111)$-based heterostructures is intriguing, since a much higher superconducting critical temperature (TC ~ 2 K) is achieved compared to that in the $SrTiO_3$ heterostructures (~ 300 mK). In this paper, we report the superconducting properties of $EuO/KTaO_3 (111)$ interface as a function of the interface carrier density ($n_s$). The maximum T_C is observed to be ~ 2 K at $n_s$ ~ $1\times10^{14}$ cm-2. In addition, we show that the critical current density and the upper critical magnetic field can be effectively tuned by the back gate voltage. Interestingly, the gate dependence of the upper critical magnetic field exhibits a trend opposite to that of TC in the underdoped region, suggesting a relatively larger Cooper pairing potential.

Co-clustering Vertices and Hyperedges via Spectral Hypergraph Partitioning

We propose a novel method to co-cluster the vertices and hyperedges of hypergraphs with edge-dependent vertex weights (EDVWs). In this hypergraph model, the contribution of every vertex to each of its incident hyperedges is represented through an edge-dependent weight, conferring the model higher expressivity than the classical hypergraph. In our method, we leverage random walks with EDVWs to construct a hypergraph Laplacian and use its spectral properties to embed vertices and hyperedges in a common space. We then cluster these embeddings to obtain our proposed co-clustering method, of particular relevance in applications requiring the simultaneous clustering of data entities and features. Numerical experiments using real-world data demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach in comparison with state-of-the-art alternatives.

Deep Demixing: Reconstructing the Evolution of Epidemics Using Graph Neural Networks

We study the temporal reconstruction of epidemics evolving over networks. Given partial or aggregated temporal information of the epidemic, our goal is to estimate the complete evolution of the spread leveraging the topology of the network but being agnostic to the precise epidemic model. We overcome this lack of model awareness through a data-driven solution to the inverse problem at hand. In particular, we propose DDmix, a graph conditional variational autoencoder that can be trained from past epidemic spreads and whose latent space seeks to capture key aspects of the underlying (unknown) spreading dynamics. We illustrate the accuracy and generalizability of DDmix and compare it with non-graph-aware learning algorithms through numerical experiments on epidemic spreads simulated on synthetic and real-world networks.

Anomalous Hall effect mechanisms in quasi-2D van der Waals ferromagnet Fe0.29TaS2

The recent emergence of two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals ferromagnets has provided a new platform for exploring magnetism in the flatland and for designing 2D ferromagnet-based spintronics devices. Despite intensive studies, the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) mechanisms in 2D van der Waals ferromagnets have not been investigated yet. In this paper, we report the AHE mechanisms in quasi-2D van der Waals ferromagnet Fe0.29TaS2 via systematically measuring Fe0.29TaS2 devices with thickness from 14 nm to bulk single crystal. The AHE mechanisms are investigated via the scaling relationship between the anomalous Hall and channel conductivities. As the Fe0.29TaS2 thickness decreases, the major AHE mechanism changes from extrinsic scattering to intrinsic contribution. The crossover of the AHE mechanisms is found to be highly associated with the channel conductivities as the Fe0.29TaS2 thickness varies.

POI Semantic Model with a Deep Convolutional Structure

When using the electronic map, POI retrieval is the initial and important step, whose quality directly affects the user experience. Similarity between user query and POI information is the most critical feature in POI retrieval. An accurate similarity calculation is challenging since the mismatch between a query and a retrieval text may exist in the case of a mistyped query or an alias inquiry. In this paper, we propose a POI latent semantic model based on deep networks, which can effectively extract query features and POI information features for the similarity calculation. Our model describes the semantic information of complex texts at multiple layers, and achieves multi-field matches by modeling POI's name and detailed address respectively. Our model is evaluated by the POI retrieval ranking datasets, including the labeled data of relevance and real-world user click data in POI retrieval. Results show that our model significantly outperforms our competitors in POI retrieval ranking tasks. The proposed algorithm has become a critical component of an online system serving millions of people everyday.
