Data-driven design of steady-state feedforward inputs for nonlinear systems under partial measurement

Designing trajectory tracking controllers for nonlinear systems remains a significant challenge, traditionally requiring precise mathematical models and complex analytical derivations. While the Internal Model Principle (IMP) provides a robust theoretical foundation for such problems, its application is often hindered by model uncertainty and the inherent complexity of nonlinear controller synthesis. This work proposes a practical data-driven control framework that bypasses the need for an explicit first-principles model by utilizing raw input-output data. By integrating fundamental results from IMP theory with nonlinear system analysis, the proposed approach improves design tractability. The framework's efficacy is validated through numerical simulations on two distinct nonlinear platforms: a mechanical load with a nonlinear friction term and an electrohydraulic actuator system.

Certified Feedforward Tracking for Unknown Nonlinear Systems via Invertible Neural Networks

In this paper, we address the certification of datadriven feedforward control for periodic tracking of unknown nonlinear systems under partial state measurements. To this end, we adopt an invertible neural network (INN) as a surrogate for the unknown system. This choice allows us to bypass solving a nonconvex inversion problem, eliminating the associated inversion errors and reducing tracking error certification to a surrogate modeling problem. We then apply conformal prediction to provide finite-sample probabilistic guarantees on the surrogate modeling error which, through the derived tracking error bound, yield marginal certificates on feedforward tracking error. Finally, we demonstrate the approach on a DC-motor-driven mechanical load with nonlinear friction.

Scenario Convex Programs for Dexterous Manipulation under Modeling Uncertainties

This paper proposes a new framework to design a controller for the dexterous manipulation of an object by a multi-fingered hand. To achieve a robust manipulation and wide range of operations, the uncertainties on the location of the contact point and multiple operating points are taken into account in the control design by sampling the state space. The proposed control strategy is based on a robust pole placement using LMIs. Moreover, to handle uncertainties and different operating points, we recast our problem as a robust convex program (RCP). We then consider the original RCP as a scenario convex program (SCP) and solve the SCP by sampling the uncertain grasp map parameter and operating points in the state space. For a required probabilistic level of confidence, we quantify the feasibility of the SCP solution based on the number of sampling points. The control strategy is tested in simulation in a case study with contact location error and different initial grasps.
