Surface-phase superconductivity in Mg-deficient V-doped MgTi$_2$O$_4$ spinel

Around fifty years ago, LiTi$_2$O$_4$ was reported to be first spinel oxide to exhibit a superconducting transition with highest T$_c$ $\approx$ 13.7 K. Recently, MgTi$_2$O$_4$ has been found to be the only other spinel oxide to reveal a superconducting transition with a T$_c$ $\approx$ 3 K, however, its superconducting state is realized only in thin film superlattices involving SrTiO$_3$. We find that a V-doped Mg$_{1-x}$Ti$_2$O$_4$ phase, which gets stabilized as a thin surface layer on top of stoichiometric and insulating V-doped MgTi$_2$O$_4$ bulk sample, exhibits high-temperature superconductivity with T$_c$ $\approx$ 16 K. The superconducting transition is also confirmed through a concomitant sharp diamagnetic transition immediately below T$_c$. The spinel phase of the superconducting surface layer is elucidated through grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction and Micro-Raman spectroscopy. A small shift of the sharp superconducting transition temperature ($\sim$ 4 K) with application of a high magnetic field (upto 9 Tesla) suggests a very high critical field for the system, $\sim$ 25 Tesla. Thus, V-doped Mg$_{1-x}$Ti$_2$O$_4$ exhibits the highest T$_c$ among spinel superconductors and also possesses a very high critical field.

On Riemannian Poisson warped product space

A formal treatment of Killing 1-form and 2-Killing 1-form on Riemannian Poisson manifold, Riemannian Poisson warped product space are presented. In this way, we obtain Bochner type result on compact Riemannian Poisson manifold, compact Riemannian Poisson warped product space for Killing 1-form and 2-Killing 1-form. Finally, we give the characterization of a 2-Killing 1-form on $(\mathbb{R}^2,g,\Pi)$.

Curvatures in contravariant warped product space

In this article, we introduce the sectional curvature in contravariant warped product space $(M= M_{1}\times_{f_{1}}M_{2},\Pi,g^{f_{1}})$, where $\Pi=\Pi_1+\nu_{1}\Pi_2$). After that we find the sectional curvature of $M$ for which $M_{1}$ and $M_{2}$ are Poisson manifolds of positive sectional curvatures. In dual space of $M$, we introduce the notion of null, spacelike, timelike $1 -$ forms and then by using these forms, qualar curvature is defined. Finally, as an examples we obtain the sectional curvatures for $M_{1} = H_{1}^2$, $M_{2} = S_{0}^2 , E_{2}^2$ and qualar curvature for $M$.

Study on Einstein Warped Product space with Quarter Symmetric Connection

We study Einstein warped space with a quarter symmetric connection. As a result, first, we find basic results on curvature, Ricci and scalar tensors with respect to the quarter symmetric connection. Moreover, we prove some results corresponding to second order quarter symmetric connection. Finally, we prove that if $M$ is an Einstein warped space with nonpositive scalar curvature and compact base with respect to quarter symmetric connection and the warping function satisfy some condition then $M$ is simply a Riemannian product space.

Characterization of Einstein Poisson warped product space

In this article, we study the problem of the existence and nonexistence of warping function associated with constant scalar curvature on pseudo-Riemannian Poisson warped product space under the assumption that fiber space has constant scalar curvature. We characterize the warping function on Einstein Poisson warped space by taking the various dimensions of base space $B$ (i.e; (1). $dim B=1,$ (2). $dim B=2,$ (3). $dim B\geq3$).

Role of spectral resolution for infrared asteroid compositional analysis using meteorite spectra

In this work the potential mineral identification of meteorites is analysed for the mid-infrared range, to evaluate observational possibilities for future missions targeting small body surfaces. Three carbonaceous and three ordinary chondrite meteorites are examined by a diffuse reflection (DRIFT) instrument, and the presence of principal minerals is confirmed by a powder diffraction method as well. The possibilities and constraints of mineral identifications in the mid-infrared are simulated by artificially degrading the spectral resolution. Our research shows that for the definite identification of principal mineral bands, a spectral resolution $\leq 10$~cm$^{-1}$ ($\leq 0.15 μ$m) is needed. At 20-100~cm$^{-1}$ (0.3 - 1.5~$μ$m) resolution the identification of these minerals is uncertain, and with a resolution $>100$~cm$^{-1}$, it is almost impossible.

Quantum spin liquids by geometric lattice design

On a lattice composed of triangular plaquettes where antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between localized spins cannot be simultaneously satisfied, the system becomes geometrically frustrated with magnetically disordered phases remarkably different from a simple paramagnet. Spin liquid belongs to one of these exotic states, in which a macroscopic degeneracy of the ground state gives rise to the rich spectrum of collective phenomena. Here, we report on the discovery of a new magnetic state in the heterostructures derived from a single unit cell (111)-oriented spinel CoCr2O4 sandwiched between nonmagnetic Al2O3 spacers. The artificial quasi-two-dimensional material composed of three triangle and one kagome atomic planes shows a degree of magnetic frustration which is almost two orders of magnitude enlarged compared to the bulk crystals. Combined resonant X-ray absorption and torque magnetometry measurements confirm that the designer system exhibits no sign of spin ordering down to 30 mK, implying a possible realization of a quantum spin liquid state in the two dimensional limit.

Azimuthal asymmetries of back-to-back $π^\pm-(π^0,η,π^\pm)$ pairs in $e^+e^-$ annihilation

This work reports the first observation of azimuthal asymmetries around the thrust axis in $e^+e^-$ annihilation of pairs of back-to-back charged pions in one hemisphere, and $π^0$ and $η$ mesons in the opposite hemisphere. These results are complemented by a new analysis of pairs of back-to-back charged pions. The $π^0$ and $η$ asymmetries rise with the relative momentum $z$ of the detected hadrons as well as with the transverse momentum with respect to the thrust axis. These asymmetries are sensitive to the Collins fragmentation function $H_1^{\perp}$ and provide complementary information to previous measurements with charged pions and kaons in the final state. In particular, the $η$ final states will provide additional information on the flavor structure of $H_1^{\perp}$. This is the first measurement of the explicit transverse-momentum dependence of the Collins fragmentation function from Belle data. It uses a dataset of 980.4~fb$^{-1}$ collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV.

Emergent magnetic state in (111)-oriented quasi-two-dimensional spinel oxides

We report on the emergent magnetic state of (111)-oriented CoCr2O4 ultrathin films sandwiched by Al2O3 in the quantum confined geometry. At the two-dimensional crossover, polarized neutron reflectometry reveals an anomalous enhancement of the total magnetization compared to the bulk value. Synchrotron x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) demonstrates the appearance of long-range ferromagnetic ordering of spins on both Co and Cr sublattices. Brillouin function analyses further corroborates that the observed phenomena are due to the strongly altered magnetic frustration, manifested by the onset of a Yafet-Kittel type ordering as the new ground state in the ultrathin limit, which is unattainable in the bulk.

Interface-engineered hole doping in Sr2IrO4/LaNiO3 heterostructure

The relativistic Mott insulator Sr2IrO4 driven by large spin-orbit interaction is known for the Jeff = 1/2 antiferromagnetic state which closely resembles the electronic structure of parent compounds of superconducting cuprates. Here, we report the realization of hole-doped Sr2IrO4 by means of interfacial charge transfer in Sr2IrO4/LaNiO3 heterostructures. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy on Ir 4f edge along with the X-ray absorption spectroscopy at Ni L2 edge confirmed that 5d electrons from Ir sites are transferred onto Ni sites, leading to markedly electronic reconstruction at the interface. Although the Sr2IrO4/LaNiO3 heterostructure remains non-metallic, we reveal that the transport behavior is no longer described by the Mott variable range hopping mode, but by the Efros-Shklovskii model. These findings highlight a powerful utility of interfaces to realize emerging electronic states of the Ruddlesden-Popper phases of Ir-based oxides.

Evidence for the decay $B^0\to p\bar{p}π^0$

We report a search for the charmless baryonic decay $B^0\to p\bar{p}π^0$ with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711~$\rm fb^{-1}$ containing $(772\pm 10)\times 10^6$ $B^0\bar{B}^0$ pairs. The data was collected by the Belle experiment running on the $Υ(4S)$ resonance at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure a branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(B^0\to p\bar{p}π^0)= (5.0\pm1.8\pm0.6 )\times 10^{-7}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The signal has a significance of 3.1 standard deviations and constitutes the first evidence for this decay mode. We also search for the intermediate two-body decays $B^{0}\toΔ^+\bar{p}$ and $B^0\to\barΔ^-p$, and set an upper limit on the branching fraction: $\mathcal{B}(B^0\to Δ^+\bar{p})+\mathcal{B}(B^0\to\barΔ^-p)<1.6\times10^{-6}$ at 90% confidence level.

Measurement of the branching fraction and time-dependent $CP$ asymmetry for $B^0\to J/ψπ^0$ decays

We measure the branching fraction and time-dependent $CP$-violating asymmetry for $B^0\to J/ψπ^0$ decays using a data sample of 711 ${\rm fb^{-1}}$ collected on the $Υ(4S)$ resonance by the Belle experiment running at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(B^0\to J/ψπ^0) = [1.62\,\pm 0.11~({\rm stat}) \pm0.07~({\rm syst})]\times 10^{-5}$, which is the most precise measurement to date. The measured $CP$ asymmetry parameters are $\mathcal{S} = -0.59\,\pm 0.19~({\rm stat}) \pm 0.03~({\rm syst})$ and $\mathcal{A} = -0.15\,\pm 0.14~({\rm stat})\,^{+0.04}_{-0.03}~({\rm syst})$. The mixing-induced $CP$ asymmetry ($\mathcal{S}$) differs from the case of no $CP$ violation by 3.0 standard deviations, and the direct $CP$ asymmetry ($\mathcal{A}$) is consistent with zero.

Doping induced site-selective Mott insulating phase in LaFeO$_3$

Tailoring transport properties of strongly correlated electron systems in a controlled fashion counts among the dreams of materials scientists. In copper oxides, varying the carrier concentration is a tool to obtain high-temperature superconducting phases. In manganites, doping results in exotic physics such as insulator-metal transitions (IMT), colossal magnetoresistance (CMR), orbital- or charge-ordered (CO) or charge-disproportionate (CD) states. In most oxides, antiferromagnetic order and charge-disproportionation are asssociated with insulating behavior. Here we report the realization of a unique physical state that can be induced by Mo doping in LaFeO$_3$: the resulting metallic state is a site-selective Mott insulator where itinerant electrons evolving in low-energy Mo states coexist with localized carriers on the Fe sites. In addition, a local breathing-type lattice distortion induces charge disproportionation on the latter, without destroying the antiferromagnetic order. A state, combining antiferromangetism, metallicity and CD phenomena is rather rare in oxides and may be of utmost significance for future antiferromagnetic memory devices.

Measurement of the branching fraction of $B \rightarrow D^{(*)}π\ellν$ at Belle using hadronic tagging in fully reconstructed events

We report a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $B \rightarrow D^{(*)}π\ellν$. The analysis uses 772$\times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs produced in $e^+e^-\rightarrow Υ(4S)$ data recorded by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The tagging $B$ meson in the decay is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. On the signal side, we reconstruct the decay $B \rightarrow D^{(*)}π\ellν$ $(\ell=e,μ)$. The measured branching fractions are $\mathcal{B}(B^+ \rightarrow D^-π^+ \ell^+ν)$ = [4.55 $\pm$ 0.27 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.39 (syst.)]$\times 10^{-3}$, $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \rightarrow \bar{D}^0π^- \ell^+ν)$ = [4.05 $\pm$ 0.36 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.41 (syst.)]$\times 10^{-3}$, $\mathcal{B}(B^+ \rightarrow D^{*-}π^+ \ell^+ν)$ = [6.03 $\pm$ 0.43 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.38 (syst.)]$\times 10^{-3}$, and $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \rightarrow \bar{D}^{*0}π^- \ell^+ν)$ = [6.46 $\pm$ 0.53 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.52 (syst.)]$\times 10^{-3}$. These are in good agreement with the current world average values.

Workshop on Pion-Kaon Interactions (PKI2018) Mini-Proceedings. Editors: M. Amaryan, Ulf-G. Meißner, C. Meyer, J. Ritman, and I. Strakovsky

This volume is a short summary of talks given at the PKI2018 Workshop organized to discuss current status and future prospects of pi-K interactions. The precise data on pi-K interaction will have a strong impact on strange meson spectroscopy and form factors that are important ingredients in the Dalitz plot analysis of a decays of heavy mesons as well as precision measurement of Vus matrix element and therefore on a test of unitarity in the first raw of the CKM matrix. The workshop has combined the efforts of experimentalists, Lattice QCD, and phenomenology communities. Experimental data relevant to the topic of the workshop were presented from the broad range of different collaborations like CLAS, GlueX, COMPASS, BaBar, BELLE, BESIII, VEPP-2000, and LHCb. One of the main goals of this workshop was to outline a need for a new high intensity and high precision secondary KL beam facility at JLab produced with the 12 GeV electron beam of CEBAF accelerator. This workshop is a successor of the workshops Physics with Neutral Kaon Beam at JLab [1] held at JLab, February, 2016; Excited Hyperons in QCD Thermodynamics at Freeze-Out [2] held at JLab, November, 2016; New Opportunities with High-Intensity Photon Sources [3] held at CUA, February, 2017. Synthesis and electronic properties of Ruddlesden-Popper strontium iridate epitaxial thin films stabilized by control of growth kinetics

We report on the selective fabrication of high-quality Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ and SrIrO$_3$ epitaxial thin films from a single polycrystalline Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ target by pulsed laser deposition. Using a combination of X-ray diffraction and photoemission spectroscopy characterizations, we discover that within a relatively narrow range of substrate temperature, the oxygen partial pressure plays a critical role in the cation stoichiometric ratio of the films, and triggers the stabilization of different Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) phases. Resonant X-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements taken at the Ir $L$-edge and the O $K$-edge demonstrate the presence of strong spin-orbit coupling, and reveal the electronic and orbital structures of both compounds. These results suggest that in addition to the conventional thermodynamics consideration, higher members of the Sr$_{n+1}$Ir$_n$O$_{3n+1}$ series can possibly be achieved by kinetic control away from the thermodynamic limit. These findings offer a new approach to the synthesis of ultra-thin films of the RP series of iridates and can be extended to other complex oxides with layered structure.

Measurement of the Decays $\boldsymbol{B\toη\ellν_\ell}$ and $\boldsymbol{B\toη^\prime\ellν_\ell}$ in Fully Reconstructed Events at Belle

We report branching fraction measurements of the decays $B^+\toη\ell^+ν_\ell$ and $B^+\toη^\prime\ell^+ν_\ell$ based on 711~fb$^{-1}$ of data collected near the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. This data sample contains 772 million $B\bar B$~events. One of the two $B$~mesons is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. Among the remaining ("signal-$B$") daughters, we search for the $η$~meson in two decay channels, $η\toγγ$ and $η\toπ^+π^-π^0$, and reconstruct the $η^{\prime}$~meson in $η^\prime\toηπ^+π^-$ with subsequent decay of the $η$ into $γγ$. Combining the two $η$ modes and using an extended maximum likelihood, the $B^+\toη\ell^+ν_\ell$ branching fraction is measured to be $(4.2\pm 1.1 (\rm stat.)\pm 0.3 (\rm syst.))\times 10^{-5}$. For $B^+\toη^\prime\ell^+ν_\ell$, we observe no significant signal and set an upper limit of $0.72\times 10^{-4}$ at 90\% confidence level.

Search for $Λ_c^+\toϕp π^0$ and branching fraction measurement of $Λ_c^+\to K^-π^+ p π^0$

We have searched for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_c^+\toϕpπ^0$ in $e^+e^-$ collisions using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 915 $\rm fb^{-1}$. The data were collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ asymmetric-energy collider running at or near the $Υ(4S)$ and $Υ(5S)$ resonances. No significant signal is observed, and we set an upper limit on the branching fraction of $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to ϕpπ^0) <15.3\times10^{-5}$ at 90% confidence level. The contribution for nonresonant $Λ_c^+\to K^+K^- pπ^0$ decays is found to be consistent with zero and the corresponding upper limit on its branching fraction is set to be $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to K^+K^-pπ^0)_{\rm NR} <6.3\times10^{-5} $ at 90% confidence level. We also measure the branching fraction for the Cabibbo-favored decay $Λ_c^+\to K^-π^+pπ^0$; the result is $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to K^-π^+pπ^0)= (4.42\pm0.05\, (\rm stat.) \pm 0.12\, (\rm syst.) \pm 0.16\, (\mathcal{B}_{\rm Norm}))\%$, which is the most precise measurement to date. Finally, we have searched for an intermediate hidden-strangeness pentaquark decay $P^+_s\toϕp$. We see no evidence for this intermediate decay and set an upper limit on the product branching fraction of ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+\to P^+_s π^0)\times {\cal B}(P^+_s\toϕp) <8.3\times 10^{-5}$ at 90% confidence level.
