An overview on curve semistable and numerically flat Higgs bundles

After recalling the basic notions concerning Higgs-Grassmannian schemes, I review how these later can be used to define generalisations of the notion of positivity conditions, such as numerically flatness, which "feel" the Higgs field. Then I prove several properties of Higgs bundles, over smooth projective varieties defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$, satisfying these conditions. Finally, I discuss how one can relate them to semistability of the so-called "curve semistable" Higgs bundles.

Curve semistable Higgs bundles and smooth projective varieties whose canonical bundle is ample

Considering the so-called Simpson system on smooth projective varieties, defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0, whose canonical bundle is ample, I give another proof the stability of this Higgs bundle, from which follows another proof of the Guggenheimer-Yau inequality. Where the equality holds, I prove that the discriminant class of the Simpson system vanishes and this Higgs bundle is curve semistable. This result follows from the study of the relations between ampleness and numerically nefness for Higgs bundles which "feel" the Higgs field and (semi)stability. Moreover, I obtain another proof of algebraic hyperbolicity of these varieties which furnishes a lower bound on a real positive constant related to this property; to best of my knowledge, this is the first and unique result of this type.

CW-complexes and minimal Hilbert vector of graded Artinian Gorenstein algebras

I introduce a geometric interpretation of the set of standard graded Artinian Gorenstein algebras of codimension n and degree d: the standard locus, which is a subset of the projective space of degree d polynomials in n variables, and I characterize it. Under opportune hypothesis, I prove that the locus of full Perazzo polynomials is the union of the minimal dimensional irreducible components of the standard locus and it is a pure dimensional subset. On the other hand, I associate to any homogeneous polynomial a topological space, which is a CW-complex. Using all these sets, I prove that the Hilbert function restricted to the standard locus has minimal values on any irreducible component of the domain. I apply all this to the Full Perazzo Conjecture and I prove it.

Lefschetz principle-type theorems for curve semistable Higgs sheaves and applications to elliptic surfaces

I prove ``Lefschetz principle''-type theorems for slope semistable and curve semistable Higgs sheaves on smooth projective varieties, defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$. These theorems are applied to reduce a conjecture, about curve semistable Higgs bundles, from the previous general setting to the complex case. This conjecture is equivalent to triviality of Chern classes of H-nflat Higgs bundles, which are particular curve semistable Higgs bundles. Where the base variety is a (complex) Jacobian elliptic surfaces, we prove that H-nflat Higgs bundles determine a well-defined subset of moduli spaces of Higgs sheaves: the ``H-nflat locus''. We prove that this is set-wise fixed by a natural action, and at ``limits'' one finds nilpotent, H-nflat Higgs bundles. As consequence, the conjecture for Jacobian elliptic surfaces is reduced to consider nilpotent, H-nflat Higgs bundles; moreover, their Higgs fields vanish, hence the conjecture holds (also) for Jacobian elliptic surfaces.

Positivity for Higgs vector bundles: criteria and applications

Working in the category of smooth projective varieties over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0, we review notions of ampleness and numerical nefness for Higgs bundles which "feel" the Higgs field and formulate criteria of the Barton-Kleiman type for these notions. We give an application to minimal surfaces of general type that saturate the Miyaoka-Yau inequality, showing that their cotangent bundle is ample. This will use results by Langer that imply that also for varieties over algebraically closed field of characteristic zero the so-called Simpson system is stable.

CW-complex Nagata Idealizations

We introduce a novel construction which allows us to identify the elements of the skeletons of a CW-complex $P(m)$ and the monomials in $m$ variables. From this, we infer that there is a bijection between finite CW-subcomplexes of $P(m)$, which are quotients of finite simplicial complexes, and some bigraded standard Artinian Gorenstein algebras, generalizing previous constructions in \cite{F:S}, \cite{CGIM} and \cite{G:Z}. We apply this to a generalization of Nagata idealization for level algebras. These algebras are standard graded Artinian algebras whose Macaulay dual generator is given explicitly as a bigraded polynomial of bidegree $(1,d)$. We consider the algebra associated to polynomials of the same type of bidegree $(d_1,d_2)$.

Vanishing Chern classes for numerically flat Higgs bundles

I consider Higgs bundles satisfying a notion of ampleness that was introduce Bruzzo, Gra\~na Otero and Hern\'andez Ruip\'erez, and prove that the Chern classes of rank $r$ H-ample Higgs bundles over dimension $n$, polarized, smooth, complex, projective varieties are positive under opportune hypothesis. I extend this to non-negativeness of Chern classes of all numerically effective Higgs bundles; and use this condition to prove the vanishing of Chern classes of numerically flat Higgs bundles.

Higgs reductions and numerically flat principal Higgs bundles

I consider principal Higgs bundles satisfying a notion of numerical flatness (H-nflatness) that was introduced by Bruzzo and Gra\~na Otero. I prove that a principal Higgs bundle $\mathfrak{E}=(E,\varphi)$ is H-nflat is either stable or there exists a Higgs reduction of $\mathfrak{E}$ to a parabolic subgroup $P$ of $G$ such that the principal $L$-bundle $\mathfrak{E}_L$ obtained by extending the reduced Higgs bundle $\mathfrak{E}_P$ to the Levi factor $L$ is H-nflat and stable; and as consequence, $H^{*}(\mathfrak{E},\mathbb{R})$ is isomorphic to the cohomology ring of the associated graded object $\mathrm{Gr}(\mathfrak{E})$ with coefficients in $\mathbb{R}$. Moreover, if $c_2(\mathrm{Ad}(E))$ vanishes then $\mathfrak{E}_L$ is also Hermitian flat and $H^{*}(\mathrm{Gr}(\mathfrak{E}),\mathbb{R})$ is trivial.
